Try doing a System Restore.Choose a date before the update that messed up your machine. Not sure what OS you are running so will post links to both Win 7 and Win 8.

My contacts on my old Iphone I gave a family member were deleted then synced to icloud.  My current iphone lost all its contacts when it next synced.  I retreived a 6mth old backup to get my contacts, but I want my recent messages back, any help?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • I cleared a conversation in messages. I did not delete.  How can I get it all the messages back from this sender.

I cleared a conversation in my messages. I do not delete. How do I get all the messages back from this sender?

Clearing a conversation is the same as deleting the messages, so unfortunately they're gone. You could always restore from a previous backup, but you would lose anything that you've added/changed etc on your phone between the last time you synced your phone and now.

  • Hi, I'm running my macbook from an external hard drive (Os yosemite) due to bad reinstall of mavericks. It was fine for a while then admin Password stopped working and i tried all ways to retrieve it. I want to install os back onto internal drive.

Due to a bad install of Mavericks, my macbook was just on a loop.  I correctly formatted a new external drive and installed Yosemite there and was able to retrieve my files onto the external drive. So for a while I was able to run my mac from the os on the external drive and it was fine. I built up enough courage to clear the internal hard drive. or so i thought.  It will no longer recognize my admin password and I can't gain access through my Apple store and iCloud password so I have effectively been locked out. i have tried all suggested ways to deal with that.  I can't seem to install the os from my external drive on to the macbook internal drive.  My dvd/cd player hasn't worked for a long time so I can't install a snow leopard disc and upgrade from there.  I really need help here.  thanks

Tried this just now, but it didn't work. I copied it to my internal drive, but if I then selected that file and told it to open in iTunes, it played the one on my external drive.
However, it was possible to play the copied movie in QuickTime Player. I wonder, though, would that approach work with a rented movie? The movie I was using was one I bought from iTunes.

  • Want to Receive Response Back From SOAP

    Hi ,
    My Scenario is IDOC-XI--SOAP
Iam sending the IDOC from R/3 and want to hold the Response message from SOAP like "Success or Fail".
I want to the response message in XI itself, no need to reach the response even to R/3.
    How can we achive this
    Regards

IDOC: Import it as Imported Object -->When you define the namespace of swc in IR select you can import Idocs and RFC option and complete the  textbox with correct information
    SID (system ID)
    Client
Later you import the Idoc, doble click on it a export it to your driver, next import it as External Definition for reason in my previous post.
Create a SWC type B_ in SLD and define it as dependence of A_. later import it into IR. there define the Data Type  and Message Type for genericResponse.
How you will use (maybe) this structure en many interface is the reasson you define it into B_XXXX
*•Basis Products (B_): Ideal for templates, generic structures, shareable java programs, etc.
•Canonical Definitions(C_): For generic business objects, meant to be reused.
•Exchange Infrastructure Application Products(A_): These products represent XI objects other than interface objects (e.g. Mappings, Integration Processes, etc).
•Interface Products( I_ ): Represent extensions to current application. These are the extensions we will later import in Exchange Infrastructure (XI) and associate the corresponding interface objects and integration scenario actions.*

define a variable named GenericRespnse_abs with category abstract interface and type (select MI of genericResponse alone)
2)create a Recieve Step --> in property message select the container you define before of idoc.
    3) define a Send Step--> mode synchronous
select MI type abstract and sync (idoc and genericResponse)
for property request message selects container Idoc_ABS
for property response message selects container GenericRespnse_abs.
Save your Changes and thats all for BPM
    h1IDh1
it is too much complicated to explain, lets try
    Create scenario
Assign BS and create comunication channels with QoS (quality of service) type BE
    Import your BPM
    Create a Receiver Determination
-->in the target service select the BPM. Save
-->In overview windown at foot windowns select  MI IDoc_abs only. nothing else
    Create a Receiver Determination
-->here the system who send data is BPM
-->in the target service select the BS of receiver system.Save
-->In overview windown at foot windowns select  interface mapping and assing communication channel
what we do here. the flow is next
1)receive data from sender system and send it to BPM
2)BPM call bs of target system (WS). how? because in interface determination you selected before the interface mapping
hope you can understand and be useful

  • Want to move TM backup from USB drive to network drive

[I tried searching and didn't see anything specific to my question.]
I have a Mac Mini backup up to an external USB hard drive and it has a history going back 7 months. It backs up to a folder Backups.backupdb. This folder resides w/ the rest of my folders on this USB HDD, it is not on it's own partition.
Now I want to 'move' this backup and history to a network drive (not a Time Capsule). I've seen methods to use Disk Utility to restore it to new drive or use Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. (I'm familiar w/ all 3 programs btw.) However, all those methods require mounting a HDD (or partition). I can't seem to figure how to use that method to mount the backups.backupdb.
    Any ideas?

Anything you found would have said you can't do that.
When TM does network backups, it puts them in a sparse bundle, not the "normal" folder named Backups.backupdb. You cannot continue network backups in the same "sequence." Even if TM works to your network drive (which is not officially supported), it will start a whole new set of backups in a sparse bundle.
And you can't copy the Backups.backupdb folder with the Leopard Finder anyway. See #18 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.

  • I want to remove some images from hard drive, how to tell they are linked to InDesign files?

Is there any way I can find out if the image is linked to an any InDesign file? I have a thousand .indd files on my hard drive, if I open one by one and see the links panel it would take me ages...

    Willi Adelberger wrote:
That's said, if you package all files from InDesign you don't get links to linked ai files. Although they are complete for the use in InDesign you might loose the editability of linked AI files if their links are lost. So it would be a good idea to package linked ai files too but this functionality is only available in the Cloud Versions from CS6 and CC, not in the permanent license.
    Wait...what?
Maybe I misunderstand the post, or I've missed something along the way, but I've been using InDesign since it was introduced, and I've never heard this before. I output packages using pre-CC versions all the time, and I've never experienced any link or editability breakage with .ai files, or any others for that matter. Can you clarify Willi? What am I missing?

  • Lost my music on computer, I want to bring it back from Ipod classic

    Hi,
Since I reinitialised my computer (PC, windows7), and downloaded again Itune,  my music turned into a mess: some tracks are unable to be found, others are in two or three exemplars, and it is to much a mess that you can forget to clean it...
Fortunately  everything is saved on my Ipod...
    So:
    - How can I "reset" Itune, in order to make things clean (would it be a good solution to desinstall then to install the latest version?),
    - then how can I transfer music and lists (precious, days of work...) from Ipod to computer?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Fabrice (Belgium)

  • Bringing Messages Back From The Great Beyond

While doing some troubleshooting today, a tech support person had me delete an important mail account. Afterwards, when I recreated the account, I realized I no longer had years of important e-mails. Luckily, it was an easy process using Time Machine to bring back my Library>Mail>POP folder that had all my old messages. But even though I plopped the old folder in to my Library>Mail folder, the messages don't show up when I launch Mail. How can I make all those old messages show up in my account again?

    Raymond,
Try removing the Envelope Index to force reindexing of all mailboxes -- see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
If you only have POP accounts, then you only need deal with the Envelope Index removal, but if any IMAP or Exchange accounts, note their special treatment.
Did you replace a newly created POP account folder with the older copy, or something else?

  • How can I Recover From Damaged Drive?

    Hi,
I've had an internal HD corrupt in my new Mac Pro, and I'm wondering what I can do to recover the data.  I've looked at this several posts including this one listing 3 data recovery software apps:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15249262#15249262
I also considered using Ubuntu Remix as described here, but it's looking like the dd tool exists in OSX as a command from terminal?  That led me to this article, describing how to use the dd tool.  So IS this something that's just included in OSX?  Also, I'm not really clear on what to enter for the Unix drive path.  The drive shows up in Disk Utility as a 4.14TB drive (even though it's only 2TB), but is not mounted, and so I don't know what the drive path would be. . . would it still be /volumes/Archive?  Or would it be the name I see in Disk Utility?
I've already tried Disk Warrior (booting to the CD even though the drive in question is not my OSX drive), and it said the drive couldn't be rebuilt.  When I startup the computer, it gives me a message saying the drive couldn't be initialized, and the option to initialize, eject, or (I think) ignore.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the best methods from what I've listed here?  I can supply more information if needed.  Just tell me what to look for.
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

    Lawrence,
The same has happened to my gf's iMac. She has 27" iMac mid 2011 and today the drive went down. Instead of 1TB HD with two partitions Disk Utility lists it as "4.14 GB ST_M13FQBL Media" with no partitions. On top of that there is a strange noise generated - I believe this is fan related.
It took me a while to workout what the heck was going on with it as Apple Hardware Testing (AHT) does not list any problems. Initially I thought that MBR was wiped due to Windows 7 service pack installation, but when run Disk Utility I realized that there is something wrong with HD.
Apple started replacement program for faulty Seagate HDs for iMac sold between late 2009 and mid 2011. Unfortuantely her iMac is not eligible, but luckilly it is still on warranty. More details about the recall can be found here http://www.apple.com/uk/support/imac-harddrive/
I have read a bit about the issue and I found this link was very usefull:
When a drive powers up, its MCU (microcontroller) puts it through a self test during which it confirms the integrity of the SDRAM and serial flash memory, among other things. It then consults the PUIS flag and, if disabled, it commands the motor controller IC to spin up the motor. The drive then accesses the hidden System Area (also called the Service Area or Negative Cylinders) on the platters and retrieves information such as the runtime ATA firmware, P-list and G-list (factory defects and grown defects), translator (to convert LBAs to physical Cylinder/Head/Sector), etc. If any of these modules are corrupted or inaccessible, then the drive powers up in a kind of "safe" mode. In this mode there is no access to user data. Sometimes the drive reports 0 LBAs, as is the case with some Seagate models that have corrupted G-lists or SMART data. At other times the drive identifies itself with its "factory alias" (eg ST_M13FQBL or ROM MODEL HAWK) rather than its actual model number. This alias is stored within the serial flash memory on the PCB.
Milos on his blog (http://www.milos.ivanovic.co.nz/blog/218) explains similar problem and shows the solution how to perform a DIY repair of the HD. Unfortunately I am not sure if the fix applies to this case, and also, I do not have required hardware to perform the repair (and additional machine I could temporaily plug the HD to power it up)
Lawrence, it would be great if you shared your experience on recovering the data from that drive. My gf does not want to turn her iMac to Apple service yet as she wants to get her data back from the drive. I am planning to run some data recovery apps against that HD, and if nothing, I will send the HD to Seagate Recovery Services and hope to get it done for free as it is their faulty drives.
    Thanks,

  • If I delete a song on my iTunes, why does my iPod ask me if I want to transfer it back?

I get a message during synch of my iPod (Classic) that says "there are purchases on your iPod that are not found in your iTunes library - do you want to transfer these?" This always makes me paranoid that maybe I have songs I want on my iPod that somehow aren't in my library, so I used to say "yes"....but then after a while, it seemed apparent that what was "missing" from my library are songs I have purposely deleted.  So then I was going through this endless loop of deleting, then transfering back, then deleting, then transfering back, then deleting......
So, my question is: if I delete a song or game or whatever in my iTunes library, shouldn't it then just remove it from the iPod?  As I mentioned above, I find it confusing/alarming when it starts asking me if I want to transfer stuff back from my iPod.  Not sure how to tell what it is that it wants to transfer back?  Is there any setting that would tell iTunes that when something is deleted in the library, go ahead and delete it from the iPod?
    Thanks!

If there a way where I won't have to delete it?
I have these on my phone, ipad, home computer, and work computer.  If I listen to something, then I may have to delete 2 or 3 times on all these devices.
    Thanks

  • Copy File From One Drive to Another & Missing Keyword Tags

    Hi,
I use LR 2.7.  I want to copy one file from one drive to another drive with the same file name.  I thought you could drag the file, but it doesn't copy over the file in the other drive, can you explain what I have to do?
Also, I tried to import the folder into another drive, but it doesn't copy the keyword tags.  Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks
    Barb

    Hey Barb,
Well, if you use the Year/Month/Day/pictures_here  format, none of the folders contains a massive amount of folders.  It's not the number of folders that generates problems, it's having them all in _one_ folder that creates slow-down issues.  Imagine if you had a deck of cards; look for one card... you have to go through all 52 cards to find it.  But, if you broke it down into the 4 groups, you only have to go through 13, which is lots faster.  Now imagine going through 15000 instead of 52...
Look at the way lightroom can automatically import by date;  it has several preset formats.  If you pick one of those, then when you import new photos, it will automatically create any missing ones, and you have lots less to do.
Depending on how much work you have already done, you might consider making a new catalog and just importing all of your photos again, and let it create everything quickly for you.
You could save all of your "edit" changes by writing out all of the xmp files first.  But with 15000 files in one directory, this will double it to 30000 (one per image!), but will preserve all of your edits if you choose to make a new catalog approach.
As for combing catalogs, once you have one catalog the way you want it, you can select "import from catalog" and it will suck it into a new one, thus combining the catalogs.  The only problem I can see is that it will import it in the format you already have it, so you have to organize it manually before you import it.  Otherwise, you'll get your old format and your new format in the one catalog (but can then move pictures around if you need to).
Personally,  I'd go the 'write xmp files, create new catalog' approach.  Then just recreate my collections, etc.
But either way you do it, it will take some time processing, as that's a lot of files to start with!
    Ciao!
    Jason
