Want POP account to send only

Is there anyway to setup a POP account on the iPhone to send only? I do not want to pull my POP mail to the phone but I do want to be able to send mail using the account.

In a word, no.
After creating an email account, you can disable the account on the iPhone without deleting the account, which prevents the mailboxes for the account from being available, but also prevents receiving or sending message with the account.

  • Problems setting a Yosemite domain name account for Send only

What do I do in Yosemite Mail so that my DOT MAC account is IMAP, but  so that I can also send email from a domain account that is a POP account at GoDaddy?
My Dot Mac / iCloud account is my primary Mail account. I also have a domain name account that I use only for sending mail. The domain name account is a POP account, not an IMAP account. The domain server (not an Apple server) forwards the email to my Dot Mac account as it comes in, but I do NOT sync mail or even pick up mail from the domain name server.
With Yosemite, Apple apparently changed the way it deals with that situation. I say "apparently" because I'm having a hard time getting help on this. Before Yosemite, I had the domain account enabled, but while there was a password for sending there was no password for picking up the domain name mail. Every once in the while over the years that setup would get flaky (as Apple made changes on its end?) but usually it worked.
I continued that setup with Yosemite, but a few months ago I started having problems. My mail worked as normally, but during the night or the morning, many messages would arrive as unread duplicates, and many emails I didn't want deleted were permanently deleted. Oddly, in addition, I had an easy time keeping the setup on my MacAir but I had a hard time keeping it on my Mac Mini, even though both have Yosemite.
I took my MacAir to an Apple genius who said the settings had changed in Yosemite. He somehow reset the account for Send Only by clicking a box. Everything worked fine for a week or so,* But then I could no longer send domain name mail, I couldn't find the setting, and I went to another Genius, who didn't know what I was talking about and who couldn't solve the problem.
I need to be able to send my domain name account without making it an IMAP account, but can't figure out how.
    thanks
    * In other words, the Dot Mac IMAP worked correctly, the POP messages forwarded correctly to DOT MAC (without any duplication problems), and I was able to send mail from the domain account.

I've not tested it but if you simply leave the incoming mail server field in the Mail account preferences blank for that account blank but set up the outgoing server and do not check "include when automatically checking new mail" you should be able to send but not receive
OR undo the forward that you have set up from #2 to #1 and use both normally

  • Is there any way to setup a email account for sending only

is there any way to setup a email account for sending only?  i have a pop account that i fwd to my google acct, so all my mail is mapi thru google/exchange. i do need this account as a send email address so currently i have entered a wrong password so i do not duplicate my inbox.  its annoying as i get the bad reteival popup continuessly.  Many email products, like outlook allow you to decide which accounts to download.  it should be a simple fix from Apple, but dont think there is any one to talk too about this.  other option is to use the gmail app or chrome, but like apple's email better for iphone  Any ideas??

  • Gmail pop account wont send mail

I set up a gmail account sucessfully, recieving mail was fine but when it came to sending i kept getting a message saying 'port 465 has been timed out'. I changed the port number a few different times to recommended ports but with no avail. I decided to delete this account and try setting up again as i may have done something wrong. I now can't recieve or send mail.
What is the correct port for a Gmail pop account?
Why has resetting it made things worse, as they ended up being the same setting as before?

I use port 25 with no problems for POP usage.
The only problem i have encountered is sending files over 5mb using POP, gmail rejects them. If I spilt it into two smaller files it is happy.
    No problem receiving big files.

  • POP account default - sends all outgoing from GMail.

    Hello all,
I have been using my iPhone with 5 POP accounts for months without issue. Just the other day, I added my GMail account to the list. Even though my primary POP account is selected as my Default Account in the settings panel, and regardless of which inbox I am in, it sends all new mail and replies from my GMail account!
From the searches i have done on these forums, the only similar problem I found had the opposite issue.
    Any advice?

have you tried checking the pop forwarding setting on your gmail account? i used to have this problem but i changed POP download option to "enable POP for mail that arrives from now on" then i am only getting the new messages.

  • POP account stopped sending and receiving-can't figure it out!

I've wasted a few hours already trying to figure out what went wrong. As far as I can tell, my server (optimum) is working fine. I'm getting the message "mail could not log into the account b/c the server is down". I don't believe that to be the case. What else can I check?

A easy way to test and see if a server is up is by using the ping function of Network Utility(found at /Applications/Utilities/Network Utility). Just send one or two to the address listed in your account info, and see if it responds.
Keep in mind though, you want to keep the number of pings pretty low, as servers admins don't normally appreciate getting ping flooded And also, some servers(generally private ones) wont respond to ping requests, but in my experience pretty much all public servers will, as long as they are online.

  • POP Account Out-going server only?

Is it possible to have a POP account set up ONLY for use with an out-going server?
I am currently forwarding the POP emails to my .Mac account (doing this instead of checking the server because it won't sync with my iMac and iPhone being a POP account). I don't need the incoming server. I just want to be able to send out-going emails using this POP account alias - not my .Mac alias.
I am trying to prevent the duplicate incoming emails.
    Can I do this?
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

    Cheryl,
I never said anything about not selecting Enable this account -- that must be done. After the account is set up, click on Mailbox in the menubar, and put the cursor on Online status, then click for this one account to Take Offline.

  • Cannot send attachments in Mail using .mac account, pop account is fine!

Within my Mail.app, I have 2 accounts: one is a .mac account, the other a pop account.
When I send attachments (jpg always and sometimes pdf) with the .mac account, they do not get encoded properly and my recipients cannot view them -- or they can view, say, 10% of the photo.
When I send the same attachments with the pop account, and within the same Mail.app, I do NOT have this problem.
Furthermore, if I send the attachment from my .mac webmail, I do NOT have the problem.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
I have tried Repairing Permissions, deleting the outbox.mbx (and emptying the trash).
Does anyone have any other suggestions? This is driving me crazy.
I am running Mail 2.0.5 on Tiger 10.4.3
Thanks a lot in advance, Neil
Long live the sunflower iMac, iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Hello Neil.
Does Mail.app have a problem with attachments sent via IMAP accounts?
    None that I'm aware of.
The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for message/attachment encoding (which is the internet standard) for all email accounts.
Is your POP account and the SMTP server used for the account provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet?
If so, try selecting/using your ISP's SMTP server (the same SMTP server used to send mail via your ISP's POP account) to send mail via your .Mac account as a test.

  • Why don't my sent items sync to my iphone from mail "pop" account?

I have the same POP account on mail and my iphone and have itunes set to sync the account. it seems like the only folder that synched was the inbox. I want to be able to sync my account and have sent emails on both mail and my iphone. I send a lot of file attachments for work and it would be great to have the sent emails on my iphone in case I need to resend that attachment if I am not in the office provided I synched my iphone with my computer before I leave the office... any thoughts... I went down the IMAP road and the problem is the email server we are using online doesn't have enough storage to keep all the emails on the server.

Not possible with a POP account.
The email account sync process with iTunes syncs (or transfers) email account setup information for select accounts only from your computer to the iPhone. This does not not involve messages.
The reason the account's Inbox mailbox seemed to sync is because received messages with a POP account are the only server stored messages and if not removed from the server when downloaded by one email client can be downloaded from the server by another - in this case the iPhone.
If you want Sent messages kept synchronized between your computer's email client and the iPhone's email client, you MUST use an IMAP account for this purpose.

  • After iTunes update, email won't send, only receive. Email setup form won't open all the way.

What can I do to get the add email form to open all the way. It won't scroll down enough to let me enter outgoing mail server information. When I forced it by hitting the enter button and blindly fill in each box, it seemed to work; but when I checked my email, I found that I could receive mail but mail wouldn't send. It kept telling me I have the wrong user name or password, and of course I don't. This only started after the latest iTunes upgrade.
The other problem is that I need to set it up as a pop account and the only way I can get that option instead of iMap is to fool it by typing in one wrong letter on my email which I correct when the page comes up giving me both iMap and Pop options.
Anyone else having this scroll problem. It's only on my iPad 2 and no on my iPhone of iPod touch

Hi, please troubleshoot this from running Outlook in Safe Mode, to determine if it is 3rd-party add-ins related.
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
We also suggest you perform a clean boot to troubleshoot this issue:

If your case is a message stuck in outbox issue, please try the following steps and let me konw the results:
    1. Work offline, move the stuck mail into another folder. Restart Outlook and Work online to send it again.
    2. Temporarily uninstall or disable firewall and antivirus software.
    3. Test in Outlook safe mode.
    4. Create a new profile and re-setup your account.

  • Restoring Data from Deleted Pop Account?

    Hey guys,
I got so used to IMAP, I deleted an old POP account that I only use for sending emails from to set it up again as there was a problem with the outgoing server. Anyways, so with deleting this account I of course deleted all (sent) mails it contained.
Is there any way that there is some cache or something with my *.mbox file or well, anything really that could help me get these emails back?
    Thanks a lot,
    V

The user Library is hidden in Lion. In the Finder, hold the option key down and select GO in the menu. Scroll to Library and it will open your user Library in a finder window. Enter TM. Select the Mail folder>V2 folder and go back to a time frame before you deleted the account. Select the account and hit restore.
From there, you can go to Mail and select Import in the menu. Navigate to that Account>Sent mailbox and import.
Once you get the messages saved, go back to the user Library and delete that account.
You might even be able to do a straight import from the TM drive from Mail by navigating the TM drive to the specific file date and eliminating the above steps.

  • Applemail email sending only portion of written message (from a POP account)

Starting about 2 days ago my email (a POP mailbox from a Dreamhost account) began to send only portions of the emails I have been writing. I have no clue why... Already checked with Dreamhost and their end is good.

    Why not using ASP?
If on your webpage you have some buttons that runs at server, the server can create a web Client and using your IP address retrieved from the cession, communicate with your application (that will act as web Server).
then the web client on the web server can send request to your VB application and read a stream as response.
This web client being control by the buttons on the web page, gives you complete control over what and when the data is sent
This way you will have a complete control over the VB application from the web page.
I am not saying that the way you want to do it cannot work, ... but it seems more complicated

  • Use mail app for POP account only?

This may be a stupid question, but my .mac trial has recently expired, and I do not wish to pay for an entire .mac account because I only enjoy using the e-mail portion of it. I have set up my gmail account so that the e-mail gets forwarded to my mail, but is there any way to send e-mails from my mail application using my POP account now that my .mac is expired?

I'm not sure I understand you rquestions - It sounds like you want to discontinue your .Mac account but continue to use your .Mac email - I do not believe that that is an option
If you are switching to gmail (or for that matter adding gmail) you can set up Apple Mail to handle your gmail account either as a POP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13275&topic=12810 ) or an IMAP account ( http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=81379&topic=1281 ) - gmail help has instructions for this set up and many others as well - a great place to look

  • Has anyone had problems sending emails using via (Road Runner) POP account?

I cannot send any emails w/ the iPhone via Road Runner POP account.... I have tried everything. From Calling Time Warner to have my Password reset just incase I'm using the incorrect password, which in fact the settings menu for mail says the password for outgoing emails are optional.. I keep getting a message saying "my email was rejected by the server" Is anyone having this problem and if so please suggest any solutions.......
Does anyone know how to set my mail app on my home computer to only forward the messages I want to my iPhone while moving all other junk emails to my Junk folder on my computer????

Last I checked you could not access RoadRunner outgoing mail servers from outside of the RoadRunner network (i.e., the AT&T EDGE network). You can use cwmx.com as your outgoing mail server, with no ID or password, and that will work while you are on EDGE (but now when you are on WiFi).
As for junk mail, that is the scourge of the internet. Many people have many solutions - I can share with you mine. I had all my email forwarded to a free GMail account. GMail has amazingly efficient SPAM filters, and it has cut down my spam 99%. You can configure your account on the iPhone using the "Other" shortuct in such a way that emails seem to come from your Roadrunner account. The added bonus is that the GMail outgoing server works on both EDGE and WiFi, so you dont have to worry about where you are at.

  • Gmail iPhone app & mailto links, "Mail Link to This Page", etc. / Send-only Mail app account

Is it possible to handle mailto links & the like (e.g., "Mail Link to This Page" option in Safari) with the Gmail iPhone app?
If not, I would like to setup a Mail account for the inbuilt Apple iPhone Mail app, but only use it for outgoing messages.  I do not want it to download messages, as the Gmail app will already be doing this.  How can I setup the iPhone Mail app as send-only?  (specifically for a Gmail account)
    Thanks.

Is this issue solved for you yet?
I still have the same problem.
Mail.app changes the configurations on my POP settings from "password" to "apop". Since I don't use "apop" I cannot receive mail. Further, after going through each mail account (about 20 of them) and changing them back to "password" and saving each account setting I attempted to receive mail again to no avail. So, I checked the account configurations again only to discover that mail.app will not save the account settings to "password" and is forcing the "apop" settings.
