Want Safari to remember Usernames only.. Not Passwords

I have been forced to use Safari as Google Chrome keeps giving my new rMBP kernel crashes. I have no problem with safari other than that its slightly slower and I can't get the dang program to remember usernames ONLY and not passwords. I don't want it remember both. If anyone could PLEASE let me know of a way to have it remember usernames only it would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thank you
- Jad

What you ask is not possible. Provided you don't let anyone else use the computer while it's logged in to your account, and you have a reasonably strong login password, and you always lock the screen or log out when away from the machine, it's safe to store web passwords. They're encrypted with your login password.

  • I want to save usernames but NOT passwords

I want to save usernames but NOT passwords (I am not comfortabel saving passwords onto my computer - defeats the object of having them in the first place!) but I would like to save time by having my usernames saved, so that when I start typing my username a drop down box appears with all the recent ones used so I can then click on mine.  I had this in my windows XP and all other microsoft computers... just switched to Apple and a little frustrated!.
Can anyone help? All the help sites I have found so far just tell me to save the username AND the password....

  • How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?

How can I get Safari to remember my ID and password for a site?
Specifically, I would like it to remember my 14 digit library account on:  http://polaris.plano.gov/Polaris/logon.aspx
Firefox on my old PC was able to do this no problem.  I have recently switched over to Apple.  Thanks for your help!
FYI, I am on a new Mac Mini with OS X 10.8.3 and Safari 6.0.4.

Some websites request the web browser to NOT autofill the username, password.  It is possible the library site is doing that. Your previous firefox on the PC may have been sufficiently old to not be able to handle such a request.  There are password managers you can get to over-ride such things (search Safari extensions).

  • I want to save username but not password

    is this possible?

Disable the password manager and use save form data to store the name.
Firefox > Preferences > Security: Passwords: [] "Remember passwords for sites"
Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: "Remember search and form history"

  • I have entered website then while logging in i have selected "never for this site" & now i want it to remember username & password...so tell me the way to proceed ?

    SHRENIK BHANDARI,

You can try to use "Forget About This Site" in the History (right-click context menu in Library or sidebar) to remove all data from a website including possible exceptions.

  • How to get Safari to remember usernames

I have several sites that I log into and check off to remember login, but 1 in particular I use 2 different usernames to login to different accounts.
Problem is on my work laptop (IBM) i type in first letter of username and it shows the history and I can just tab to select it then enter password, but on my MBP in Safari, no such luck.
I have to type in entire username every time, there is no drop down that shows up with history of logins.
Is there a way to enable this feature to make login easier?

Sorry, that's not a feature of Safari. If you have multiple usernames for the same site(s), you can't have both of them active at the same time in the same browser. And if you don't have to enter the full username and password each time, that would be huge security risk.
You can use 1Password to manage your usernames and passwords for various sites, and input them for you with one click from the browser toolbar.

  • I want firefox to remember my ID and password on certain web pages. There is no "Option" tab in the Help section (like on my PC) where I could go to Security and checkmark the Remember Password box.

I would like a window to appear when I log in on a web page to ask me if I want to save my password.
Also, why is there no "Option" tab on the Help menu in the Mac like it is on my PC?

After first closing the site's browser window, I cleared the cookies with no problem.
Next, I opened up the page that is causing my problem. The Microsoft Security window opened up as it should and it was blank.
The option of whether I was using a public or a private
computer was blinking on 'public' as it should and I changed that to 'private'.
The lines for 'Domain/Username' and 'Password" were blank, as they should be at this time.
I entered whatever I had to on these two lines, then clicked on "log In". At no time, however, did the Firefox toolbar at top of screen (picture file attached) appear and ask whether to remember that password. Yes, the page now opened - and we are back to Square One.
I am aware that when entering the URL in the address box, a dropdown box opens and contains quite a few URLs identical to the one I am entering just now, or at least connected to pages of the same site.
I am wondering whether that is what's messing me up? But how can I clear these entries of "websites visited in the past from Firefox's memory?

  • How to get safari to remember login and password after I said do not remember

I went to a website through Safari and logged in and accidentally hit Never remember for this site and now I cannot get safari to remember the login and password. I have gone through preferences/passwords and the site is not listed and it will not allow me to add a site.  I would love help with this since I log on to this site just about every day! Any suggestions?

It might be a corrupted keychain ...
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Open Keychain Access then select Passwords on the left.
Right or control click a keychain then click Delete.
Back to Safari. Login to the website you want the password autofilled.
Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
Keep in mind, not all websites espcially financial institutions allow the autofill feature.

  • How do I force Safari to remember site logins/passwords?

    Hi.
I'm using a new Mini running Mountain Lion and Safari 6.0.5. I installed the computer fresh, rather than migrating from my old computer (2007 Mini), as I was dragging a lot of dead weight in settings, preferences, and cache. Safari DID acquire my bookmarks from the cloud on first use.
I am frustrated that some of my registered websites/passwords have not been saved; they are not listed in the preferences. Is there any way to force Safari to store the sites? Is it possible to migrate ONLY those settings from my old computer?

Just in case there any outdated keychains ..
Open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of the sites you want Safari to remember passwords for then delete the current keychain for each one.
Back to Safari. Navigate to a site you deleted the old keychain for.
Login with your username and password. Click Yes when prompted to save that data to a new keychain.
To make sure Safari syncs Bookmarks with iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud
    Make sure Safari is selected.

  • Firefix no longer asks to remember user names or passwords.

Firefox no longer asks me if I want it to remember user names and passwords. Except for those it had previously done so. I have the box checked in settings for it to do so, but it does not. This occurred after the update, an update I was reluctant to do in the first place.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.
*You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"

  • Safari not remembering username and password

Hello, I have my settings set so that Safari remembers my username and passwords to make logins faster. One site I use for school has had my username and password saved since I first started using it. But all of a sudden, it's not remembering my information anymore. When I go onto the site, it doesn't automatically fill in everything like it used to. And the only way I know how to add usernames and passwords to Safaris list is when it prompts you to when on a new site. How can I "re save" my username and pasword? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

You might be able to fix it by deleting the saved password from your keychain in the Keychain Access application. Search for it by the domain name of the site.

  • Safari 5.0 will not prompt to remember username and passwords

Safari 5.0 will not prompt to remember username and passwords for new sites I joined. It will remember the old ones but not the new. Under Safari< preferences> the autofill in all 3 places is checked. A box used to drop down when joining the site for the first time and say... Save Never Not Now.
Now nothing happens. Anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file to the Trash.
    Restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the *Safari Forms Autofill* keychain.
    Relaunch Safari.
