Want to backup itunes settings for a format

i have windows 7 pro. i installed itunes on my C drive (in the default installation location). all my downloaded podcasts/ my movies are in the D drive.
i have some trouble with my windows 7 and need to format and reinstall windows (pretty common situation ..huh). because all my media in drive D i should not be needing to redownload anything after format. however itunes loose all settings afterf ormat , i.e. itunes is not storing my settings in the D drive but rather in the C drive.
the question is : how can i backup virtually ALL (please ... all means all) settings / podcast location ..... etc so that i can recopy them after i format the drive C. in other word where the **** these settings are stored? i want to be be able after the format to return to virtually 100% the same state i was before format including backups of my ipad/ipod and sync state.
i tried many stuff searching the net but no hope so far.
thank you very much.

hi
any hope for that ?

You can download iTunes for your computer from here : www.apple.com/itunes/download
If you want to update your iPhone to iOS 5.1.1 (you can only update to that version as that is only version that is 'signed' by Apple), then if you are on iOS 5+ already on your phone then you can update directly on the iPhone via Settings > General > Software Update.
If you are on iOS 4 (or you can do it this way if you are on iOS 5) then you will need to update via your computer's iTunes (you will need the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer).

  • ITunes Settings for Media on External Drive via Airport Extreme...

iTunes Settings for Media on External Drive via Airport Extreme base station versus plugging directly into laptop.
My current configuration is that my iTunes Media (700gb) are all stored in an External Drive that's plugged into my Airport Extreme Base Station. This works great for me having wireless access to my iTunes external drive.
Whenever I need to back up that hard drive with Time Machine, I just plug it directly to my laptop...
But how do I let iTunes (or iTunes library) know that this is the same hard drive where all my media is stored when it's plugged directly into the laptop as opposed to trying to access it from my Airport Extreme network?

No there isnt any files call library in the folder i created I am now in the process of copying them back but I guess I will loose all my playlists and playcounts. I do have a Copy of my drive that i made with carbon copy cloner. So maybe it will be best to boot from there, restore and start again.
Chris it was just the media folder. I was following the instructions on the apple support page. Got to point 14 didn't get the warning but did seen to have a brand new itunes, so emptied the trash as they said expecting everything to be fine but it wasnt.

  • Want to get iTunes 10 for my Mac OS X 10.4.11

I know that leopard is required for iTunes 10. However, I will only have my current macbook for a few more months and don't want to shell out money for an operating system that I will end up getting in 6 months. I am unable to update my iphone because I have an old version of itunes. Is there any way to get itunes 10 for tiger? Or to update the iphone without itunes 10? Is it possible to get a free update of leopard since I've had my tiger macbook since 2007?

This is not going to be "fixed". Apple states the system requirements for the iPhone quite clearly, on their web sites and on the iPhone's box itself. The requirement of Mac OS X 10.5.x and later has been in place since the iPhone 4 was released last year, and it's not going to change at this point.
So your choices are either: upgrade your MacBook to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6; use another computer to sync your iPhone; or return the iPhone and buy some other phone.
    Regards.
P.S. The company name is "Apple", not "Mac". And you posted in a thread that was last posted to three months ago, not usually an effective way to get assistance.

  • Can I modify the Export to... iTunes settings for better audio quality and compression?

I am working on some Music Videos to DJ at a party with, I notice that when I export them as .mov files with Final Cut HD Express, they have 320 kbps and 44.100 kHz in the audio compression settings. Once I export them in Quicktime 10.2, using the File / Export to... / iTunes drop down menu, the Second, (ipad, iphone 4, & AppleTV) setting (not using HD, so the Mac and PC tab is not an option.) The final exported file, that plays great in itunes, appletv, ipad, etc. has a reduced quality audio of Bit Rate of 159 kbps (instead of 320 kbps) and Sample Rate of 32.000 kHz (instead of 44.100 kHz). Is there anyway to change these preset settings somehow?
The Formats on the File / Export / menu are even less dinamic?
I also noticed that some of the Music videos I purchased from the itunes store some years ago, have a 256 Kbps and 44.100 kHz setting. Which is better quality than the ones exported from Quicktime 10.
I thought maybe with Quicktime 7 Pro, I could fine tune all the presets, but it got too complicated for me, might this be an option? What would the settings be?
Using Widescreen 853 x 480 at full quality .mov file.
    thanks.

Your question basically has too facets. The first is the quality of the source audio in terms of sampling rate and data rate. Under normal circumstances you don't want to export the audio using a sample rate or per channel data rate that is lower than your original source if you are trying to maintain the quality as high as possible and, on the other hand, you don't want to use settings greater than the source values since they increase the final file size without improving the quality of the audio.
The second is the workflow. Since you indicate you are using FCE HD for editing, then using QT X to re-export the data seems somewhat redundant. While it has been many, many years since I last used FCE HD, if I remember correctly, you have both "Export QT Movie" and "Export using QT Conversion" options. The first option takes the audio and video format in which you are editing and merely copies the edited data in that format to a new MOV file container. On the other hand, the second option allows you export the edited data format directly to a user selected compression format using user selected options (but does assume the user knows how to best use these options). These are, BTW, the same export options available in QT 7 Pro.
I thought maybe with Quicktime 7 Pro, I could fine tune all the presets, but it got too complicated for me, might this be an option? What would the settings be?
What is so difficult here? If the source is DVD stereo quality (usually 48.0 KHz @ 192 Kbps then set your output for stereo 48.0 KHz @ 192 Kbps. If you wish to save a bit of file space, the you can use 48.0 KHz @ 160 Kbps but that is normally as low as I go. As to setting combinations in QT 7 Pro, once you set the sampling rate, the application becomes cuntextually adaptive and will only allow you to select data rates that are "standards" compliant and non-compliant ones are automatically greyed out. Rendering quality settings are self-explanatory. These are the basics if you are using a preset option like the "Movie to MPEG-4" export option. If using more complex options like the "Movie to QT Movie" option, then you will need to also consider how you plan to use your file to select the correct encoding strategy. For instance, a constant bit rate is good for optical media from the standpoint of providing a constant flow of data to the player. Unfortunately, this is not very efficient since it forces the quality to vary as it maintains the constant data rate. A variable but contarined data rate is also good for optical media or fast start online files but allows the data rate to vary between user selected data rate excursions and thus provides improved quality over the constant data rate strategy. The variable data rate allows the user to target a specific level of audio quality and will then allow the data rate to vary as needed to maintain a constant level of quality. This option is better suited for playback on a computer since the bit rate can vary greatly in magnitude. The average setting allows the user to target a specific average target data rate but allows it fluctuate as the encoder applies predictor-corrector adjustments. This option, like the constant data rate option, is good for average complexity content when creating a target file of predictable size but can somtimes have problems towards the end of the file if the content suddenly becomes more complex than predicted.
Using Widescreen 853 x 480 at full quality .mov file.
I would rarely recommend using the full quality slider setting. This is more of a redundancy setting forcing the encoder to recycle through certain encoding routines in an effort to improve quality without increasing the data rate. You would like do better to increase the video data rate limit and decrease the quality slider to something in the 50 to 80% range. You also indicate the files are 853x480. Such files are frequently the result of anamorphic widescreen MPEG-2 or DV source files. If so, I would normally recommend retaining this anamorphic strategy by encoding the H.264 video at the same 720x480 matrix dimensions and allowing the player to properly display the files at their targeted aspect ratio. This strategy will either allow for slightly better quality at the current video data rate setting or allow the user to retain the current level of quality using a slightly lower data rate which, in turn, means a slightly smaller final file size.

  • What is exactly stored in the Backup ITunes files for the IPhone?

I am thinking about allowing iphone connectivity via Active-sync in our Exchange 2007 environment. I am familar with the intergration and management of Active-sync with the Iphone however, I do have concerns with the backup feature on the ITunes software. I know it backs up the iphone but what does it exactly backup? I am mainly concerned with corporate emails/informatoin that are synched from my email servers and then cached locally on the iphone itself. Does it store any of this information, emails or corporate directory within this backup file? I want to ensure that this information is not stored on users local machine if they exit or leave the company. Your input would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

No, email is not stored in the backups and is downloaded once you click the mail icon.
When restoring from backups, mail always shows no unread messages for 15 minutes or until you click the mail icon. The inbox will appear blank for a short time as there is no cache from the restore and messages headers begin to download automatically.
I cannot say for sure as I have not dissected the backup files, but it is highly unlikely backups store this data as it will quickly become out of sync with the mail servers and thus rather useless. The behavior I noted when restoring from a backups above seems confirm this.

  • Just want to backup iTunes on an external hard drive

    Greetings,
I've been working on this for days without success. All I want to do is back up my iTunes on an external hard drive.
Using iTunes 7.6 on an iMac G4; Music resides on an external hard drive. I want to back up to a different external hard drive.
I've tried moving folders, but when I go to test the data, iTunes can't locate songs. I tried the <option> key to redirect. I just tried adjusting preferences to new drive; then I tried "consolidate" ...took forever 90Gigs.
I just can't get everything right on each of the two drives. The folders are different.
Just when I thought I got it working (iTunes operating perfectly from alternate drive) I can't eject the first drive. I want to put one hard drive in a safe place. No other programs using these external drives.
Drive that is working looks like this:
    LaCie
iTunes folder (contains all my artist folders)
    iTunes library (database file)
    iTunes Library.xml
Other drive that I want to dismount:
    Seadisc300
iTunes folder (contains album artwork file, iTunes Library data, iTunes Music Library.xml iTunes Library.xml and iTunes Music folder (artists) plus previous library folders.
Anyone know what files / folders need to be where?
This is frustrating. Any advice most welcome.
    Thanks,
    Mark

1 - iTunes puts music in \iTunes\iTunes music folder by Artist\Album\song.
2 - Dunno why it's there unless you created a new library and selected that location.
    3
When selecting the location under iTunes preferences... does one select a folder or the actual database file inside a folder?
You are not selecting a library. You are selecting a location for the iTunes music folder.
Do I allow iTunes to "organize" after making the adjustment?
I would. This makes iTunes oprganize the songs by Artist\Album\Song based on those fields in the ID3 tags.
    4 - ???
    The default for iTunes is...
    Album artwork folder
    iTunes music folder
    iTunes library file
    iTunes library.xml file
    Maybe a Previous libraries folder.
If you choose to have the music folder located elswhere, it won't be in the iTunes folder.
Just a note: To make it easier to understand, don't mix up terms.
*iTunes music folder* is just that. It's where the music is. It is not the library.
*iTunes library* is what you see when you open iTunes. This info is contained in the *iTunes library.itl* file.
*iTunes library.itl* file is the database used by iTunes for all the info about your library - Songs, movies, podcasts, playlists, ratings, etc.
*iTunes library.xml* is created by iTunes for other apps to access th eiTUnes library. iTunes istelf does not use it.

  • Settings for Mixed Format Multicam Sequence?

My new Quad-core computer easily edits AVCHD and HDV projects. But I'm having all kinds of jerky playback problems when trying to edit a multicam sequence using both kinds of footage. What sequence settings should I use in setting up this hybrid sequence? I've tried both AVCHD and HDV settings and had the same problems.

Not sure you can get around this one. You may have to convert one format to the other for smoother multicam playback. (Purely speculation on my part.)

  • Restoring iTunes Settings For Clean Install

I have recently had to do a clean install of Mavericks to a reformatted drive. Because of significant issues with low level files on my previous installation, Apple has recommended that I 'manually' copy over all my data. The challenge with this when it comes to iTunes is that I had an extensive set of playlists, and not all of my tracks were located in the standard Apple "Music" folder.
I have a complete clone of my previous installation, so what preference and other files can I copy over to make iTunes look at feel like what I had before?
I know quite a bit about the lower levels of the Mac operating system, and even have some experience with UNIX, if this will help.
Thanks for any assistance you can lend me ...

    bj4mac wrote:
Thanks for your assistance. Do you mean that I should 'replace' the Music folder, now on my clean install drive, with the /Music/iTunes/, or that I should just replace the contents of the clean install drive's "Music" folder with the contents of /Music/iTunes/ from my backup drive?
    Neither.
Copy the /Music/iTunes/ folder from yrou backu pto /Music/.
This puts the /iTunes/ folder back where it was.
You should end up with an iTunes folder in your Music folder.
Additionally, what about the many tracks which were outside my previous "Music" folder? Should I try and replace them to they exact location they were, hoping that iTunes will rebuild the playlists they were originally in?
Yes, put them back where they were.
Is there some reason they were outside the iTunes (and the Music) folder?

  • I want to change my settings for country of region from Australia to United Kingdom and everytime i click on United Kingdom the writing appears in arabic. Is this normal?

I have moved counties (Australia to UK). Everytime i try and change the settings so my country of region is United Kingdom, the writting appears in arabic. (i have tried this several times) Is this normal or an error in the settings?

If the address and the Country/Region on your account is the UK (it should be on the first screen that you go to when you log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Apple ID) then the payment details screen should be UK based - if I select Visa on the payment details screen then it defaults to my name and address (with UK) on my iTunes account.
Does that first show UK as your country ?

  • I want to backup my settings as to xfer to chrome

the chrome browser allows data from firefox to be imported. how is this done

Sounds like your missing the partition. I have seen this before when I friend had a bad drive and took it in. Apple store replaced the driveamd installed lion but no partition. I had to reinstall lion from a full install DVD to build the recovery partition. Looks like you need to do the same. No data will be lost if you don't re-partition with the disk util. Just run the lion install from within lion and use the default. It will build the partition for you. Then re-run the apple updates for the 10.7.2 update which embeds the find my Mac part of iCloud in the recovery partition.
    Good luck.

You should convert everything a common format and frame rate first.
    Two things to consider:
What format do you have the most of?
What will be the output format?
