Want to be an unpaid beta tester ? K8N Diamond Plus and press search !

Dear all,
This A8N Diamond Plus with  Nvidia AMD x16 motherboard technology is becoming a bundle of issues and we the customers who paid approx. 200 Euro's for this board are the unpaid beta testers.
I must say not only MSI is responsible for all this sh.. , but is this the way to run a business?
Many of us have spent hours and hours already, trying to find solutions for compatability problems and bios stability issues.
I think this is why the PC is doomed to loose more and more gamers in time ...or are we talking  Microstar Chinese here ?
Greetings

Hello,
It reminds me of Windows OS's, Microsoft releases half baked OS and we beta test it for them for free.
With all new releases of motherboards there's going to be bugs. Unfortunately MSI can't test all of them way to many devices out in the market to do that ( I think ). So they test the most popular brands and models with the board. I think that they didn't want to fall too far behind ASUS, which I think release their SLI 16x first, so they made the hardware side stable as it can be and released their version of it, while hoping when they release their BIOS updates will fix any issues with the board.
I can say that I'm one of those beta testers since I bought the board and I can say that I'm one of the lucky ones that isn't having any issues with the board, knock on wood   Yes I do get the phantom modem if I disable the onboard audio but since I use the onboard audio, it's not a problem. Oh, and ntune doesn't work for this board either it doesn't run or it freezes up the computer, but I know how to do it in BIOS to OC the cpu.
Unfortunatly there isn't a 100% PERFECT motherboard out there, they all have some kinds of bugs in them.
I guess for good advice is to wait for a few months before buying a newly release motherboard or wait until new BIOS's pop up on MSI websites.
Well that's my 2 cents anyway.

    Any tips?

They should run fine... as a Diamond Plus comes with a Dual Core compatable BIOS.
You'll have to post back with some news when you get it together.... I have a 165 that needs a new home.
thanks for the reply, i kinda figured it might support it, as the M8N Diamond does (accordingto the cpu support list) but MSI's site doesn't seem to have much info about the K8N Diamond plus, not even a single bios upgrade or anything.
I have an ASUS A8N32-SLI but i have 3 issues with it:
    1) can't install vista 5270 - common problem, not just me
    2) poor pci slot location when using 2 pci-express dual width gfx cards
    3) only available pci slot shares an IRQ with 2nd gfx card, bad for sound cards
I was going to order one this weekend but i might just not bother now as someone else posted the xfi cards don't work with them (popping/crackling, just like i have now) and that was my main motivation for getting rid of my asus board as my xfi card doesn't work either.

  • K8N Diamond Plus and MBM5

Anybody got MotherBoard Monitor 5 or Speedfan, working with the K8N Diamond Plus
I need to configure my LCD on my keyboard and can take values of temperatuer only from these two programs.
The programs to create custom screens on the LCD is the LCD studio.
If anybody got it to work please enlight me

Neither of those progs have support for the Diamond Plus...as stated, Everest Ultimate does though.

BTW this is offtopic but can you get read write queue bypass to 16x?  I set mine to 16x but it shows up as 8x in windows. Same with the idle cycle limit.  I set it to 256 but i shows up as 16.  Really retarded mobo IMO
I have both set at 16x and 256 respectively without problem

  • Default FSB on K8N Diamond Plus and system restart

    Hello,
I'm just wondering why the default FSB value on the mobo is 200.9 mhz and not 200.0? I find that this is odd so I changed it to 200.0 since the first day I use the mobo. Before this I used a Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLi but since the upgrade to Diamond Plus my system always restart just like pressing the reset button. I did a fresh install of Win XP for the upgrade. I never had this problem my old mobo. I've ran memtest and prime95 but found out no error. Now I'm changing back the FSB value to 200.9 mhz to see if that is the problem.
    My spec:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
    Enermax Liberty 500W PSU
2X Gainward Geforce 6800Ultra in SLi
2gb OCZ Platinum EL dual channel kit DDR400

"the upgrade to Diamond Plus my system always restart just like pressing the reset button. "
give more info how, where, what was last action before happend?
It happens when I ran 3Dmark 06 at the beginning of the deep freeze test. Sometimes I experienced BSOD during boot just before the welcome screen comes. I don't think this is a power issue since my PSU is pumping 22A at both of the 12V rails. The change to 200mhz didn't solve this and I think the problem is from nVidia drivers. I've tried the chipset driver version 6.82 with graphic driver version 91.31, better but still having restarts. I tried chipset 6.86 with graphic 91.31 and that makes thing even worse. I also tried chipset 6.86 with graphic 84.21, the result is the same as chipset 6.82 with graphic 91.31
Edit: The restarts occur at times(not everytime) when the screen resolution change. I use a lower resolution (800x600) for Windows to make the text easier to read.

  • K8N Diamond Plus and SLI

I have the Diamond Plus MB with (2) MSI NX7900GTX-T2D512E Graphic cards and the SLI bridge connecting them. Everything runs great until I enable the SLI in the NVidia display properties. I check the box and as soon as I hit the apply or ok button my system reboots. When I check the display properties after reboot the box is unchecked. Graphics driver is ver 84.43  I really expected the cards to work great with the MSI MB, but so far that's not the case. Any Ideas?

^ Echo the power-supply response. I'm not sure what the specs on your PSU are, but you might want to check it. If it's dual-rail, then you could be having a problem. Random reboots when graphics are involved usually means PSU.
Also make sure your PCI-E connector on your motherboard has power. There's a 4-pin connector on the upper-left of your first PCI-E x 16 slot that needs power if running dual graphics. Check your motherboard manual if you're not sure which one it is.
    Go here: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone2_build.html
.. for a list of compatible power supplies for your setup. I'm running a Silverstone Zeus ST56ZF which is one of the few PSU's certified for SLI 7900GTX's, even though I'm running a single 7900GTX, so I can overclock the CPU and GTX all I want.

  • K8N Diamond Plus and IEEE1394 problem

I connected the supplied IEEE1394 bracket to the correct connectors in the mainboard (as described in pg 2-20 in the manual).
the "squarish" port worked fine, but the "longer" type just won't work!
what happened? in the manual, it says one of the connector is optional.  but in my board, there are 2 1394 connectors.
does it have anything to do with the problem?
    thanks

In my Diamond Plus board there were two separate brackets that came with it.
One - for IEEE 1394 (Firewire) usage has two different shaped connectors on it, two cables coming off of it, and each cable has a GREEN connector with a big nub hanging off the side that only allowed them to be plugged into the IEEE1394 ports on the motherboard.  You could NOT accidentally plug those into USB ports because they would not fit.
The other, for USB and diagnostic LED, has two same sized USB connectors on it, and four LED's.  The USB ports have two cables that come together at a YELLOW connector.  The LED's have a single cable that comes together at a BLACK connector.  It looks to me like if you inverted these connectors you could get it to fit into the IEEE jack on the motherboard, but they don't belong there.
Make sure you're using the right brackets.
    Good Luck,
    DJG
NOTE - Now that I reread this, it sounds like you might be saying that you got the two connectors to fit into the motherboard fine, but that one of the ports on the bracket still doesn't work.  Is that what you mean?  If so, I have nothing to offer except try switching connectors on motherboard and see if problem travels with bracket connector or motherboard port, try new bracket, etc...).

  • 2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

    Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
    Here's my configuration:
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
    Decklink Extreme PCI-E
    2GB  RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
    OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
    plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.
    =======================
The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
    =======================
Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Greets.
    Igor Bineli

Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use.  Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card,  and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

  • Aftermarket HSF options for K8N Diamond Plus

Just built a new rig with the K8N Diamond Plus  and am very pleased with the board -- worked great from first power up and with a little BIOS tweaking I have no trouble getting a 50% overclock from my dual core Opteron 170.  No headaches at all, unlike my previous experiences with Abit boards.
The AMD heatsink fan unit (with heatpipes) provided with the 170 is not bad at all, but I'd like to replace it with a more capable unit, along the lines of the Zalman 9500, Scythe Ninja, Tuniq Tower 120, Thermalright XP-120, etc.  The tall heatsink of the Nvidia NB is close to the CPU socket and quite high, so I'm not sure if any of these will fit.  Anyone using one of these or similar heatsinks ?  Please let me know if they fit, or did not fit.
Since I could find any of the 7800GTX 512MB boards I wanted, I'm using a single MSI X1900XT card right now but plan to go SLI in the future with 7900GTX cards driving the 30" Dell monitor.  The ATI video board and nVidia mainboard surprisingly get along great, with no crashes so far and 3DMark06 scores above 6000 -- the X1900XT is an impressive piece, and much faster than the X800XT-PE I had in my previous computer.  But the fan can be extremely loud and the Catalyst Control Center sucks.  Unfortunately the old ATI control panel is no longer offered...

    TimeReaper,
The problems your are talking about are not uncommon with this MS-7220.  The BIOS Clear Circuit physically has problems and that is not something they are going fix with a BIOS upgrade.
The BIOS Clear Circuit actually trashing the values stored in the CMOS by not doing a complete clearing of the CMOS is causing the problem.  What leaves trash for parameters, for the BIOS to use when rebooting.
Let give you an example that fits your case.  You can set the BIOS to turn the system on at any give time and date.  So, if the trash in CMOS is in those parameters storage location.  Therefore, whatever trash value gets stored in the locations, as a dated and time, will turn the computer on at that time.  So, you could of had the computer come on in the meddle of the night two week later.  Now, think of all the functions the BIOS have and how many weird things people are having and do not know why.  There is one guy that is a regular on the Forum how has been fighting a problem I know is caused by trash in the BIOS CMOS, but Strick and I have ask him to do a good CMOS clearing and he just will not do it.  I even wrote out in great deal the over night CMOS clear procedure I use.  It is a pain in the ass, but some times, I have too use it.  I just had to use it, upgraded V3.09 using short CMOS Clear and had no problem.  Used the short procedure again when upgrading to V3.0A and everything when to hell, had to finally use the long overnight procedure and reinstall Windows to get computer to run right again.
NoBS, when your computer goes BOOO during the night just plain it o MSI.
    Roger
When submitting a problem, include a complete list of your system components; include part numbers, all Power Supply Voltages, and their output ratings.  It is almost impossible to estimate what your problem is without knowing something about it.

  • K8N Diamond Plus & Asus EN7800GT Dual ?

    Howdy!
Bought one of the Asus Dual 7800GT graphics cards (two GPUs on one board) and was using it with the Asus SLIx16 mobo, the A8N32-Sli.  Problem with using that motherboard is that the card only worked properly on the bottom PCIe socket (furthest from the CPU) - when using it in the top PCIe socket, only one of the two GPUs registered in Device Manager.
I figured I'd switch over to the K8N Diamond Plus and see if that works better (I'm only considering SLIx16 mobos, as my plan is to get another of these cards later on and experiment with Quad GPUs, hence the need for the extra PCI lanes) - has anyone tried this motherboard with the Asus card?

Quote from: pibrahim on 25-January-06, 21:46:50
That's very odd, that MSI boards work so differently from Asus.
Problem is that the dual-GPU card won't work properly in the top slot and I really needed it to be in the bottom.  Not sure what exactly I can do about that now...
Toms hardware did a review on this.
The card shows up in the primary slot as 1 gpu, then you add a second card it shows up as a 3 gpu system.  THe first card says 1 gpu, but operates as a two gpu.
Look up the card on new egg, there is a link to the reviews of it some where in there.

  • Water cooling and the K8N Diamond Plus...

I have a water cooled DFI mobo atm and I want to change it to the K8N Diamond Plus and I noticed that the board has a heat pipe on the northchip and on some other component. My question is this; I want to put a water block on the northchip but I don't know if I can. Can I safely remove the heat pipe setup to put a water block on the north chip and if I do what about the other component that the heatpipe was covering? I hope I wasn't to confusing in the explanation.

    Hello !!
You will need two Waterblocks, one for the north- second one for the southbridge.
There should be no Problems mounting the blocks if the mounting holes fit the mainboard.
You can easily remove the Heatpipe. You have to squeeze those nipples togehter tha are on the backside of the board. You can do it manually but you can also use a cylindric tool to squeeze them together. I cut a plastic pen i the half, and pushed it on those mounting latches carefully.
          ___|\        half pen
    latch___          <----
              |/      ___________
After this procedure the Heatpipe is only held from the thermal grease on the chipset.

  • MSI K8N Diamond Plus Question

Will the ThermalRight XP-90C Heatsink and 92mm fan work with this board?  Thermalright's web site does not say anyything but I can't help but wounder if it will fit with that fanless cooler on the MOBO.
    Thanks

I've got an XP-90 installed and there is plenty of room.   Plenty of airflow also.   I'm at a constant 31-36 celsius, so no worries on the CPU.  This cooler is large, I had it on an Asus A8V deluxe, an Abit AN8 SLI and now on the MSI K8N Diamond Plus, and its basically located on the same place regardless of mobo, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.
I did'nt mean that it has a massive effect on the temps, although comparing your rig to my last (AN8 Ultra, 3700 @ 2.7) my temps never went above 32'c idle and 44'c loaded!!
I meant that the airflow in my case struggles a little because the exhaust fan is right next to the hs and I cannot operate it the other way round due to my ram hs being so bloody large <damn you Corsair!!>
    Sorry if I caused confusion!!

  • K8N Diamond Plus, Line-In & AVerMedia Studio .103

    Hello,
I got K8N Diamond Plus and AVerMedia Studio .103 audio out connected to my onboard sound device's (Audigy) Line-in. I don't know how to describe the situation but I'll try. The problem is that the captured audio is some kind of wavey like an old "record", the sound is cry-like especially when there's a music in the background.
It is really annoying to have such a problem with this kind of expensive product. I'm sure it's not TV Card related because I use it for 5 years now with the same OS, Application, Drivers and cable. The day I upgraded my system I met this trouble. I've searched for driver updates, chipset updates related to this issue but couldn't find any. I tried every possible option/configuration with the sound card and no hope.
I think it is because that the line-in is also used as an output with the 4 speaker configuration. Every passed day with this issue I add spoilt videos to my archive and this upsets me.
Thanks for your help and concerns
    Yours respectfully

The line-in only has dual fuction in 8 speaker sw config (7+1) .
With 5.1 and lower the numbered jack #1 is only having line-in config.
Make sure you have correct Multi-Channel Audio Function mode properly selected in the software
    utility for your speaker connections/configurations.
And use the Creative web update to have the laterst drivers and software .
First of all thanks to all of you guys...
Secondly, I was just trying to point out that may be the dual-function support (doesn't matter when) is doing this...
And yes I am using windows XP as it says in my signature, but thats not an issue since i used this card (AverMedia) with XP pro for four years with no problem.... I can't say anything about the dual-core tho...
BTW I tried to manually update the audigy from creative's web site, but couldn't be sure if I had to download the Audigy drivers or should I use MSI's web site for my sound device, since it's on board? Or is there a version in the Creative web site to, or even the audigy drivers itself may be? Do you have any suggestions? MSI doesn't have an update tho I know that..
