  • Beta testing iPhone apps

Does anyone know if Apple has made any provision for beta testing iPhone apps? In other words, once my app is ready for beta testing, is there a mechanism to get it to testers (or to allow testers to install it if I get it to them)?
I'm also curious how they're planning on allowing us to get review copies out, although I suppose it could be the same thing.

I still haven't been accepted to the dev program, but I was under the impression that you can install on upto 5 devices. I plan to get a couple extra devices to install on and then lend them out to testers. Its not a huge beta program (4 people at a time max) but its certainly better than nothing.

  • N900 owners wanted to beta test next Ovi Suite

Cpitchford already posted about this - the next version of Ovi Suite is planned to support the N900 and Nokia is now recruiting Beta testers.
Read more from Kale, our resident Ovi Suite team Beta test  Admin:

I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

I've been delving into the daemon on the phone that appears to be responsible for "pc suite" communication with Ovi suite / PC suite..
I'd love some linux support for just that.. stuff an entire suite, it'd be good to have some low level support.. integration with existing linux software would be much easier to achieve, then..
It looks horridly complex.. makes debugging a PITA

  • Want to Beta test new Z10 Apps?

You can now get Who Is It ? Led Color Alerts for the Z10. Like the others it needs to stay open but at least you will get Date / Battery Info.
You will need to know how to sideload BAR files and be an experienced user.
All I am looking for is very honest feedback on the apps.

  • IOS App Beta testing

    Hi there,
I am new in these communities, so I would appreciate any help possible.
My app is close to being submitted for approval, but I am currently looking for help with beta testing the app.
Can someone help me with the process/options I have?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

There's no official way, but many websites offer the service:
    - to distribute your beta over the air if you already know your Beta-testers
    - to find beta-testers and have them test your app.
Some are free, but the result in terms of quality is not ensured, others can find great beta testers for you but they are paid service (price can vary a lot).
You can type in any search engine the keywords about that, and you should find what you're looking for !
(for instance: "ios app review beta test")

  • Looking for Connection iPhone beta test users

The Connection tools team is looking to release it’s first iPhone application for user based administration access. The app is built on top of the new REST based API’s for user access (as opposed to the full administrator CUPI access) and allows you to do basic account configuration items for greetings, transfer options, voice name, private lists and a few other items. It’s currently limited to English only.
If you have an iPhone (or iPod Touch or iPad) running iOS 4.1 or later and are running against Connection 8.6 and would like to beta test the app, email me directly at [email protected]
    Thanks.

  • Giving your UUID away for beta testing.

Are there any reasons not to provide your UUID in order for others to beta test your app?
What does the UUID enable for someone else that they can then run your app? I always see the UUID blocked out in examples as if it is a security concern.

I see people do the same thing with license plates on auto related forums. Since it uniquely identifies that one device I guess there is a possibility that somehow, somewhere someone could use it to impersonate the device. I use the UDID to identify devices for a Web Service I have built. I have security measures in place so that it would be very difficult for someone to impersonate my client software however so UDID spoofing is really not an issue for my application.

  • I have an idea for an app and want to better understand the process... reputable developers, costs, margins on a .99 cent app etc. thanks

i have an idea for an app and want to better understand the process... reputable developers, costs, margins on a .99 cent app etc.  thanks

All the reputable devs are busy and out of reach.
Apple takes 30% from the price, so you're left to figure profit after knowing how many you will sell/did sell.
Development costs can range from less than USD$10k to six figures or more.
You don't provide details on what category you plan on participating in, so it makes anything but dartboard guessing pretty difficult, sorry

  • Want to be an unpaid beta tester ? K8N Diamond Plus and press search !

    Dear all,
This A8N Diamond Plus with  Nvidia AMD x16 motherboard technology is becoming a bundle of issues and we the customers who paid approx. 200 Euro's for this board are the unpaid beta testers.
I must say not only MSI is responsible for all this sh.. , but is this the way to run a business?
Many of us have spent hours and hours already, trying to find solutions for compatability problems and bios stability issues.
I think this is why the PC is doomed to loose more and more gamers in time ...or are we talking  Microstar Chinese here ?
    Greetings

    Hello,
It reminds me of Windows OS's, Microsoft releases half baked OS and we beta test it for them for free.
With all new releases of motherboards there's going to be bugs. Unfortunately MSI can't test all of them way to many devices out in the market to do that ( I think ). So they test the most popular brands and models with the board. I think that they didn't want to fall too far behind ASUS, which I think release their SLI 16x first, so they made the hardware side stable as it can be and released their version of it, while hoping when they release their BIOS updates will fix any issues with the board.
I can say that I'm one of those beta testers since I bought the board and I can say that I'm one of the lucky ones that isn't having any issues with the board, knock on wood   Yes I do get the phantom modem if I disable the onboard audio but since I use the onboard audio, it's not a problem. Oh, and ntune doesn't work for this board either it doesn't run or it freezes up the computer, but I know how to do it in BIOS to OC the cpu.
Unfortunatly there isn't a 100% PERFECT motherboard out there, they all have some kinds of bugs in them.
I guess for good advice is to wait for a few months before buying a newly release motherboard or wait until new BIOS's pop up on MSI websites.
Well that's my 2 cents anyway.

  • Are we Beta testing the N97 for Nokia?

Because if i was given this as a beta release i would have told them what i thought, the current launch version on the N97 with V10 firmware is barely an Alpha release, this phone was a rush job thrown out on the market to coincide with the launch of the iphone 3Gs.
This is my fourth N series, N80, N95, N95 8gb (the best N series yet), and now this N97 what should be Nokia's flagship, but being stripped of apps and filled with Trial versions to please the accountants at Nokia.
Day one and it locked up twice, corrupted my contacts when synced with OVI, and ran down to less than 4mb on the C drive, day 2 i found the GPS was not working, it was a joke, walking down the road under a clear sky and it could not hold a signal lock, driving was worse barely holding a signal for a few seconds and as for sitting spinning it round for an age to get the compass to work........forget it id rather be lost than look like a **bleep**.
Deleting apps and reinstalling them on the mass memory frees up some space, but why should we have to do this, the whole phone is badly thought out and configured.
Soon after the stylus supplied with the phone and attached to the phones only tie point scratched my screen, what was wrong with a rear cover with a bump and a thin PDA style stylus, no not good enough for Nokia, a fat thing on a string will do for them.
New Firmware release 4 days after UK launch and still not available to most users as it has not been network approved yet, 3 network say its Nokia's job and they are delaying things, Nokia say its the networks delay. Come on if it was needed that quickly why leave most of your customers waiting, or just get to work on a layered OS with a standardised core with a network layer, so everyone can have the updated without waiting.
4 weeks in on this phone, i too have the scratched camera lens, still No working GPS, and having some good negotiations with Three to try to reverse the contact upgrade, as i don't think another N97 will last any longer than this one.
I see Nokia spending Millions on punting the N97, TV, Billboards, Net adds, why push so hard on what is a sub standard product, could you imagine Joe public trying to free off some memory by moving apps, tell the care centres to brace themselves the N97 flood will be coming their way.
What next, well if 3 don't cancel the upgrade, then Nokia will have to fix my phone again and again and again untill it works as advertised, in the mean time i am off to get in touch with watchdog so they can let Joe Public know what to expect from an N97.
    Rob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I don't believe we're beta testing the N97 for Nokia. Beta testing suggests it is in a state prior to production. Nokia's track record (at least to me) seems that leading edge phones never reach a stable plateau.
What I believe happens is the phone is released and remains unstable until they sort of perfect the platform, then a new handset is released bringing a whole new world of bugs and problems and so the cycle continues.
By the time the phone is suitable for every day use it is, by today's technological stance, ancient and the damage has already been done to the reputation.
S40 phones seem to fare much better, mainly because it is much more widely used within Nokia. S60 is up against some fine competition from vendors who will rush fixes out.. Nokia only ever seems to rush phones out. It isn't the same and it shows (see their forcast for the next 6 months)
I honestly would not be surprised if this flagship phone limps on in a partially functional state until it is superceeded by a budget blackberry clone.
Sad? Very! Am I being cynical, or telling it like it is.
I'd be real interested to know if any exec at Nokia used the N97 in the weeks before it was released.. Not that I'm a fan, but we all know Stevie J used an iphone long before it was released.. I kind of get the impression they must all use very basic "corporate" s40 handsets and assume their flagship product must be of the same calibre.
Next release, why not give 100 people N97 for testing, real testing.  It seems Nokias quality assurance team is out of touch with what a $700 handset demands.. ooooh, I gasp in awe at your 30 MB of free capactity when you remove ALL the applications you can. (It's like having a 2TB hard drive in a computer and continuing to boot from a floppy)
I appreciate there are product time lines to meet, but if Nokia were aiming to compete with the likes of the pre, iphone and the various android handsets (not even mentioning windows mobile) rushing out a phone like this was very wide of the mark. Concept wise, the N97 is a great design.. the implementation of both the hardware and software just isn't going to cut it in todays market..
(but this is what they want? you'll get bored with the handset and buy a replacement! yeay!)

  • Album beta-tester

We just wanted to let you know!
The Album development team has a Google+ Community where they communicate with their Beta test users. Anyone can join this group. In the community you are able to influence the coming software by giving feedback on the beta software or even propose new ideas for the application.
The information you give on this community is seen as very important but as the team is rather small it sometimes might take some time to get answers.
You will find more information about how to become a beta tester and the limitations that comes with it on the community.

  • TOSHIBA Please Read - Beta Testing and Developer Community

    Hello Jim,
I wanted to respond to your posting about the status of the update but the thread has been locked, so I started a new one. Anyway, I was wondering if there was a chance that we could get a beta test version of the software provided to experienced and brave individuals that can report back to the dev team with various issues and bugs to be fixed?
The public beta will not only appease the people angry at Toshiba for missing the deadline for the update, but also provide necessary feedback to the development team that can be used to create a more feature complete update. As an Android developer myself, I would take every oppurtunity to report bugs and issues and even provide code to help implement fixes for various issues if said source is availible. I believe it would be a great idea for Toshiba to create an open source development community on these forums and to provide us with bleeding edge code for us to implement and mess around with.
Such communities already exist on various sites like XDA Developers but not with vendor support, if Toshiba provided a vendor-supported developer community around the Thrive and other Android devices such as the Excite and Folio. With a vendor supported community, we would have a place where Toshiba can make better software for the devices and developers and brave regular users can participate in the process of getting updates for our various devices. I believe that moving away from such a closed development environment would not only help Toshiba develop better devices and software, but also give the company a leg up on its competitors who do not have such a community pitching in allowing for better software to be coded.
I hope that this message is read by someone at Toshiba that can make this happen, as the benefits are truly mutual, since Toshiba would be getting better software for its devices and developers get the resources and code needed to turn Toshiba into one of the best supporters of this great open-source project.
If anyone from Toshiba would like to contact me to help coordinate such an undertaking, I may be reached at [email protected]
    Thank You For Your Time,
    Rob Gries
    Android Developer

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for the thoughtful message. Your points are well made and, while I don't disagree that there are mutual benefits, Toshiba has no current plans for directly building or supporting a developer community.
On the other hand, private beta testing for the Thrive product line was first launched last summer and I expect it to be ongoing as major software updates reach reasonably usable states within the development process. However, you won't see discussion of beta testing in the message boards because beta testers are under NDA.
Thanks again for the thoughts and for your interest in developing for Thrive!
    Jim

  • How do I stop getting update notifications as a beta test Firefox user. I don't wish to be on this list anymore.

I have been getting notifications of a new release of Firefox. I think I've been on the beta test user list and I don't want to be on that list anymore. I'm not active enough to be of any use to you folks. Thanks for a great product.

You likely installed what was a one of the Beta builds of a version at time and then been on Beta channel ever since.
A easy way to get back to Release channel is to install Firefox 34 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
Firefox 35.0 is on the Beta channel as there has been six builds so far with nine being the average.
