I exported slideshow from Iphoto 11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine, but then when playing on DVD player show stops about 12 way and starts over. Seems there are 2 chapters in show. I wan t show to play straight through until end. How do I elimiante chapters or solve problem. Thanks. Bob Low

    Try this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Player and see if you get the same start over half way thru.
Did you create the slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow mode?
or were you in an album and then used the Share ➙ iDVD menu option?  What I'm trying to find out is if the slideshow in iDVD is a movie file or an iDVD slideshow with the photos from iPhoto? If it's the latter how many photos in the slideshow?

FC/e is based upon the Quicktime-engine; so, on 'Export using QT', you'll get all codecs & settings.
    but which one..
due to sheer popularity, YouTube became a 'standard' - I'm happy with the convenience, YT and the 'embed'-code offers - excellent quality, automatic adjusted to the watchers connection&hardware.
    my export settings are 720p, h264, 6MBit/sec - gives a - imho! - superb quality.
(example of a 'screen-test' from my latest project CLICK )
for creating so-called 'flash video'/.flv, you need 3rd party apps.
Sorenson Squeeze is more of an pro-tool, .. you need some background knowledge to get noticeable 'better' quality.
.. and the question is: are you willing to pay $.$$$ for that 0.x% more quality .. ? does your source offers such a 101% quality, which needs such affords?
if bandwidth is an issue, because you're hosting on your own servers, consider the free codec xh264, you can install as a free QT-plug-in.. with low or super-low bitrates, it offers a superior quality compared to h264 ...

  • Will a DVD-5 (HD MPEG-2 Encoded) play on my Blu-ray player?

Is there any way of checking that a 30 minute HD DVD recorded on a normal DVD-5 will play on a Blu-ray before you buy it?
I am thinking of getting a very cheap Philips BDP 3000.
I suppose I could always get the sales staff to agree to let me return it if it didn't work!

In Compressor, HD DVD means just that. It is referring to the obsolete format. Most of us would like to see that removed from the Final Cut suite; it just usually leads to confusion.
In compressor, you can create a new batch from template, select "create blu-ray disc" and it will do just that, with limited but nice looking menus. It will also create an AVCHD disc (Blu-ray structure on a DVD-5 or DVD-9) if you have a DVD-R in the drive.

  • Can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

can videos from my dropbox be played on sony blu ray dvd player BDP S580?

Hello ptsotsos, thank you for your message. Welcome to SONY Community!
Unfortunately the Blu-ray disc player cannot play videos from dropbox. When the Internet video device is connected to an active network connection, you can browse web sites or surf the Internet. However, the built-in browser is not designed to replace the web browsing functionality of a computer.
NOTE: Web pages may not display correctly and some web functions such as downloading or saving Internet content may not work properly.
    Hopefully this post helps you!

  • Burn keynote prensentation onto DVD to play on DVD player

I have created a slide show in Keynote and I want to burn it onto a DVD to play in a DVD player. I exported to quicktime and created a version there. It has a .m4v extension when completed. Then I burned that to the DVD disc. It won't play in a DVD player. I tried changing the extension to .mv4 and .mov but it till won't play. This is getting expensive.  I need this in 2 days. I have researched the web and followed every advice I could find. I cannot afford to buy more software such as toast, to make this work.

It has a .m4v extension when completed. Then I burned that to the DVD disc.
That is not how you make a DVD Video.
This is the workflow you need to use:
Export a Quicktime Prores file from Keynote using custom settings
Use a DVD authoring application to create a DVD Video: examples are iDVD;  no longer available from Apple but Amazon and ebay have it available, or try the free test of isky DVD Creator.

You also need to determine what kind of DVDs your player supports.  My player will play discs with image files on it.  Some players will even play files in mp4 format.  If yours will only strictly play DVDs in DVD format then you have to author them with a tool such as iDVD (no longer sold).
If you are playing these at home you might see if you can ouptu video straight to the video device from your MBA.

  • Dvd not playing on dvd player

Burning the dvd works and the dvd plays fine in the computer, but it doesn't work on my dvd player (or the other two that I tried it on...all relavtively new dvd players. I think my settings may have changed or something? any suggestions? I'm exporting my clip as a quicktime and just dropping it into idvd. thanks so much!!

I see this is your first post. You have a problem which keeps coming up and I'm not sure I have see a definitive solution.
First, DVD players re designed to accept commercial DVDs and DVD-Rs are a sort of extra so they don't read them with the same certainty.
Some suggest trying different brands, verbatim is a popular choice.
It is always worth burning a slower speed than the disc rating, this appears to help.
My favourite hint is to quit all other applications whilst burning the disc. Particularly internet connection if you run an application like Entourage which accesses the net at regular interval.
Show respect! you are asking the system to burn over 32,000,000,000 and only a small number of errors will spoil the disc.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mac DVD player plays all DVDs but this one

A commercial DVD from Netflix will play on my tv, my MacBook Pro, and my old power Mac, but not on my intel Mac.  All other DVDs play on this Mac without a hitch.  Netflix has sent me 2 copies of this and neither works, yet all others work.  There are two discs in the series and neither will work.  They stop after the introduction and warning from the FBI.  They then freeze the DVD player and I have to force quit the DVD Player.  When they freeze there is a green bar at the bottom of the screen.  I have a separate optical drive attached and even when I use that to play the DVD the result is exactly the same.

In addition, I have repaired permissions, but nothing lets this get past the 26 second part.  That's where both of the discs freeze on my iMac.  Again the discs play fine on my dvd player attached to the tv, plays fine on my MacBook Pro and plays fine on my G5 iMac.

  • DVD drive plays certain dvds and others not

I've accidently locked my dvd drive to a certain region (not sure which), and i know that i cant unlock it. But i realise that i can play certain dvds and others not, for example in my Will & Grace collection i can play the first 5 seasons but not the later ones. When i try to play the later ones, dvd player tells me to eject it because 'the dvd does not match the drive region code'...But why can i play the other ones which have the same region code??

If you locked your machine in the wrong region code, take it in for service.

  • Dual-Layered DVD not playing in DVD players

The final file of my recently completed DVD came out to about 5 GBS, so I decided to burn the content onto a dual-layer DVD (approx. 8.5 GBS). Unfortunately, while the DVD works fine on my Mac 10.5, when I insert it into a PC laptop or a conventional DVD player, the drives are unable to read the DVD. Because conventional players can easily accomodate dual-layer DVD's, I am absolutely stumped as to what the problem could be.
I'm curious if this is an encoding issue where I need to substantially lower the mbps bit rate, however by doing so, I worry I may be sacrificing quality. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bit rate I was using was 6 mbps. I heard one shouldn't go above 8 mbps because older players can't read them.
When I pop the DVD in conventional players the message "CANNOT READ DISC" appears. And when I place it in a laptop drive nothing happens at all.
I'm using Sony DL DVD-R's. Could my problem be because of the type of disc I'm using? Or perhaps there's a formatting issue I've missed.?

  • How can I create an iDVD to play in a blue ray

I'm searching for the way to create a slide show on a disc that will play on both DVD and Blue-Ray players.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • DVD for Film Festival Screening & Blu-Ray Question

    Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to double check something.
I have been making DVD's with DVD Studio Pro for a short film shot on HDV --  23.98 and they look great.  I chose the "Best Quality" output, etc. etc.  This project is going to be screening in a small film festival and they are going to project off of a DVD.  I did a test screening in a theater classroom on a big screen and it looked fine.
I wanted to check in and see if anyone thinks there is a better output option for this.  I don't have a Blu-Ray Burner at this time.
Also, I plan on getting a Blu-Ray burner in the future.  I hear Lacie is the way to go?  Any other suggestions, and/or links to other burners highly recommended.  Also, do you need Toast to burn Blu-Ray?
    Thanks for your input!
    - Eric

You might be able to play a true HD file from your computer, you don't need the BD. But you must test the display output from your card to the projector in advance to know you've got what it takes to connect the two and if the projector is even capable of showing 1080. Most are not.
It is highly unlikely a festival will require BD submissions, too much hassle for them and for the participants.

  • PRE9 - burn old non HD video (VHS/8mm) to blu ray to take avantage of blu ray capacity?

I've got a lot of old VHS and 8mm video I'm burning to DVDs using pre9.  I'm creating tons of DVDs in the process.  Since blu rays have much more capacity than a DVD, is it possible to use pre9 to burn the old videos to blu ray as non HD and fit many hours on each blu ray?

You  could certainly burn the VIDEO_TS folders from each DVD as a data folder. Software Players should be fine with that, but I'm not sure about hardware players. You would probably find that some BR players will allow you to select from various folders, other players won't.
