Want to buy linksys router

im looking for a wireless router that can connect to my wired usb printer samsung clx 3175 and connect my hard disk or thumb drive together to do wireless printing and wireless access to my portable hard disk or thumb drive. is there a model in linksys that can do the job?

I think Linksys offers routers with USB connection for wired and wireless file sharing only, not USB printing. Wireless printing is also supported provided that it will connect to the router via ethernet port or wireless adapter.

I want to buy an hp m1536 laserjet for my ipad printing, I believe the printer is not wireless but has sprint. Is the print job going through my wireless router and does that router need to support AirPrint.

The following model is airprint compatible, is this the one you have?
    HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf MFP
If not the "dnf MFP" model, then no.
The router needs to support the Bonjour protocol.  If not, the airprint won't work.

  • Linksys Router IP change

I have a 4 year old Lynksys Wireless G  2.4ghz Router . I regulalrly go to the 192.168.1.1 webpage to change my IP address for security reasons. It is starting to get slow and is causing blue screen every now and then. I want to buy another Lynksys Router but I want to be able to access a Webpage to change the IP the same as I did before. Do any of you have any recommendations in terms of speed, and over all better performance and does the model you are recommending have a 192.168.1.1 page the same as my current router does. I need a good router with IP changing capabilities  in essence...! Thanks

Well the default IP address for all Linksys/Cisco router is 192.168.1.1. So when ever you want you can open the web interface of the router with the same IP address.
Second if you are looking for a router which can provide good speed and signal strength then can go for Expert Series (E-Series) router. So you can refer to the website for more information: homesupport.cisco.com

hi, I am looking to buy wireless router or modem/router wireless, but I want a model where I can easily switch on/off the wireless while keeping the Ethernet cable always on my computer and turn on/off wireless (a switch) when I need it! does linksys have such a product? thanks.

i think linksys has not yet created a router that has a physical on and off switch for wireless connection

  • Slow Internet Speed on Linksys router

I have an ibook that I use for work and when I am at work the inter speed is just fine (we're on an Airport). When I take it home and try to get on the net it is very slow. The crazy thing is, we have an Imac at home and connect via wreless to it and have no problems what so ever. Have any suggestions?

Mass market routers like Linksys are not very efficient with high speed broadband. I really don't think there's much you can do to improve the Linksys performance.
Just to be sure its the router you might want to check your cable modem signal strength; and the connectors from the street to your cable modem. Sometimes a bad splitter can cause very bad signal strength. You might want to test your speed by hooking up your iBook directly to the cable modem without a router. Run a speed test from somewhere like http://speakeasy.net. Be sure to pick a test location close to your home. If you get really fast speeds without the router than with the router then you know its the Linksys.
I had similar problems with Linksys. I upgraded it with the dd-wrt firmware. This improved reliability but not performance. You might want to buy a ZyXEL router which is very fast and very efficient. Also, its much more reliable than your Linksys router.

  • Problem connecting to internet with linksys router after internet network password reset

I do not know the model number of the wireless linksys router offhand, but it is one known to have a bug regarding connecting the internet. Others have solved the problem by buying another model number, but the person who owns it does not want to buy a new one since he does not know how to use any other one.
What happened is our phone company (also the internet provider) was having technical problems so there no internet connection. Then, my computer opened with internet page to reset password to connect.
Although I am able to get a connection on my wireless laptop, this other person in house is unable to connect to wired computer through linksys.

Hi. WUSB300N is actually a wireless usb n adapter. A wireless receiver not a wireless access point or a router. You may want to check if you have a wireless Linksys or Cisco router there.

  • Linksys router requires ethernet port-help!

Bought new Linksys router that's Mac-compatible, thought I'd connect it to my Ethernet source, then connect MacBook Air to the router wirelessly, but the router's setup software (run on external SuperDrive) insists I connect an Ethernet cable from the router to the Air...obviously, that's not going to happen. Even if an Ethernet-to-USB adapter did the trick, I wouldn't want to buy it just for this setup.
Anyone know a workaround? All I've thought of is to haul my iMac up to this new office, do the installation/setup on the iMac, then once the router's up and running, connect wirelessly with my Air...if that'd work.
    Any thoughts? Much appreciation, Lee

Hi Linksys. I am in a hotel in Wuhan China and every time I go to use their ethernet plug in through an adaptor it still does not give me access to the internet, the problem is that whilst I am at work I have no problem getting on line with wifi; however for all those times when i wish to use Skype or just e-mail someone, I cant get on. I bought the adaptor and when I use it all I get is a message saying that there is a problem with the 3 ports, and then advises me to check my firewalls.
So buying an adaptor is not working for me. If you find an answer then please let me know.

  • Linksys router and IP address problem

My linksys router is sending out a fake IP address of 24.124... Is there any way to set it so it sends out something else? I'm trying to access a chat server which banned ALL 24.124 addresses because of some hacker doing a number on their server. I really want to get in without having to buy another router. I have a WRT54G V5

If the router is not giving the 192.168.1.x ip, the router might be acting as a pass through already and needs a firmware upgrade. If the firmware upgrade will not save the router, it might be defective.

  • Linksys Router and WHS 2011

I am looking at replacing my Netgear WNDR3800 router with a Linksys router. The Netgear 3800 router is NOT 100% compatible with WHS 2011.   I would like the new Linksys router and WHS 2011 to be compatible wtih each other.   When I say "compatible", I want the WHS 2011 to auto detect the Linksys router and automatically setup the configuration.   This would include the UPnP settings as well.
I am looking at the EA6500 router as a replacement.   Anybody use the EA6500 and WHS 2011?

    pfisher13 wrote:
Apparently, there is another POST with someone having EA6500 and WHS 2011.   In the POST,  it wasn't clear if the EA6500 fully supports WHS 2011 or the other way around.  I know the Linksys WRTxx supports WHS.   I am not lookning to go back in time.   I don't want to buy an older router with less features than to buy a newer router with new features added to it.   I want to invest in a newer router that is compatible with WHS 2011.
The new EA6500 should be compatible with WHS 2011 and UPNP is enable by default so that's should be good to go. I found this site from the internet so you could also try to do some test first, http://connecteddigitalworld.com/2009/08/15/how-to-check-your-broadband-router-compatibility-for-win...

  • Linksys Router - Seriously Unstable

I have never been so disappointed in a company! Our Linksys router died and we decided to buy the new one coming out in a week or so. In the interim we borrowed a Linksys wireless router, the wireless connection is seriously unstable, I called tech support to get help with the settings (it is a settings issue) My options are to spend $30 or to buy the new router that we WERE planning to buy next week for DOUBLE the price at New Egg or Amazon. Now we are rethinking buying anything Linksys! So much for customer loyalty! Now I have to live with no internet for who knows how long, we are researching other wireless router companies.
I did not receive a case number, I was told I had to pay $30 to receive any help or buy the new router and when I asked the price of the new router, it was double what Amazon and New Egg had it for. I have updated the firmware on the routerand I am sure the instability is due to settings within the router, all I wanted was some help with the setting so my wireless network was stable. I am just very disappointed that you do not support your product.

It is sad to note of the experience that you went thru. But we know that different companies have different protocols to follow. There are many ways to get the information that we need if we need to troubleshoot our routers concern. Good thing with cisco is they have a knowledgebase site that allows us to get information for free and the steps provided have been proven to work. That's one avenue that we can look into. It is amazing that other websites are able to offer lower prices for routers but it has been one of my experience that when I went thru cisco's online store they do offer good deals as well. So it might be one website could be offering a promo and the others are not.

  • Need Help with Linksys router broadband-b

I have a Linksys wireless-B broadband router for some reason it just went crazy on me. My wireless card is a wireless - G . Now when i had Verizon DSL  i  got this router and a USB  wireless adaptor from verizon. I had the usb adaptor on my wife computer and the router and modem  on my notebook for six months we had there dsl service until we moved  to a nother city. Once we  had all of our service's transfered  to the new home  we could not get verizon DSL there.
So for a nother six months we had to use  dial up and being that we run a home business dial up was just not up to the task. Well we got rid of dish network  just to get cable T.V. just to get the cable broadband service. That's when i got a wireless card for my notebook anyway  for six months the network was working  just fine with the router and my wireless card.
Until  Sept  this year just a few weeks ago the router started going crazy. Before my note book was config for windows to connect  linksys was connecting  and i would see all conection in the site survey,  and my own network  also. Until a few weeks a go  my network would not show .
So i call linksys the have me download   some up dated firmware that would not install on my notebook or my wife computer after being on the phone for hours with linksys they come to tell me that  the router is ok and working alright after all the test   and steps they took me through with the router. Linksys tells me that there is something wrong with my PCM slot  on my notebook or either  my linksys wireless card. Ok  First of all i can pick up signal  on other networks  and go on line like the Hilton  Hotel  when i go in there parking lot, Second  i can pick up othr networks and get on line that are not secured  sometimes  so this tells me that there is Nothing wrong with my PCMI slot or the wireless card.
Now i took my router across the street to a friend house and guess what he gets a signal  off the router with his notebook  but i can not and when we plug the router in the AC outlet  the internet light was flashing like crazy and my wireless card was not even in my notebook so that tells me that someone close was pulling signal off my router  but i cant.
Can someone please explain this to me  i want to get another router wireless - G this time but if there is something that can be done to get this one working like it should that would really help.
The Notebook has been checked out and config  and that works well when i hook the either net plug in from the modem  the  router was config as well but i just can't get a connected to the router when i use the wireless card.

Yes press and hold the reset button in back for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 10 seconds and power cycle the router.  Now connect to 192.168.1.1 username blank, password 'admin'.  Now try.

  • HELP PLEASE !!! Can't get Linksys router to work.

    Okay, I am a new owner of an Alu-imac 2.4 ghz !!!!!!
Installed Leopard last night and wanted to get my internet set up and ……. IT DIDN'T WORK !!!!!!!!
The Diagnostic thing wouldn't recognize my internet.
    (Info for you):
    1) I have an Linksys wireless router that is right behind the computer. I have to have a router for my 360 and my PS3 across the room. So I had the cable internet modem hooked to the wireless router and then to the computer. (just like it was hooked up to my PC)
    2) I tried everything I could think of to get it to work. The diagnostic show that the Ethernet had a green light, but it would not let me online at all.
    3) So then I tried unplugging the modem and the router and still nothing. (It gets stuck on the page where it asks "do you use a cable modem, if so please restart it and then hit continue") And still nothing.
    4) So then I tried to just run the internet straight from the cable modem to the imac, and this didn't work either….. Then for some reason like a 1/2 later the network settings brought up the IP and everything and I had internet.
    5) *But I need my Linksys router to be used !!!!* Is there any advice any of you can give me !!! I can call Linksys if I need to when I get off work, but I thought maybe some of you could help me first. *I did have to call Linksys before I could get the router to work on my old PC as well*, so maybe it's something with them ????
HELP PLEASE !!!! I want to love my Imac so much.

fonz500, are you still having this issue or is this now a dead thread?
Let us know if your still need help.

  • I'm Able to connect AE to Linksys Router: Some tTps

    OK:
For several weeks (off & on) I have been trying to connect my Airport Express to my Linksys WRT54G wireless router network, but have run into several recurring bottlenecks. Well, I feel that I have busted through the dam yesterday, based on some feedback from folks, along with a lot of trial and error. Below, I address a couple of problems that keep recurring in this forum.
    *Problem 1:*
My AE in no longer seen on my network.
    Solution:
My AE should have its own Apple ad-hoc network, if all I have powered-on is my laptop, the AE and a set of powered speakers that the AE will stream music to.
The AE's ad-hoc network should show up in your system tray's connection window
with a name similar to "Apple Network XXXXXX" , where XXXXXX represent the AE's 6-rightmost hex digits of its 12-digit hex MAC (Media Access Control) address.
Last week, I did a complete factory reset on the AE. Yesterday, when I tried to have the laptop generate an ad-hoc network, it couldn't: it kept trying to attach to a prior network that I had created with my router (which by the way, is currently turned off), but couldn't find it. I did several more factory resets, with no luck. The AE would not generate the ad-hoc network ! I tried both, with and without an Ethernet cable running from the AE to the laptop.
Frustrated, I took a gamble and did an "intermediate" reset of the AE.
Note: The AE is wired to the laptop, plugged in, with stereo speakers connected and turned-on. Using a paper clip, I pressed-in the AE's reset button, and held it for ~10 seconds. It worked I could now see my "Apple Network XXXXXX" ad-hoc connection listed in my system tray's list of networks to connect to.
Now that I had the ad-hoc network for the AE, the question was to figure out how to add this device (the AE) to the Linksys router's wireless network.
    *Problem 2:*
I'm unable to add the AE to my existing Linksys wireless network.
    Solution:
I turned on the cable modem and the Linksys router, and let them boot.
At this point , I have the AE hardwired to the router via Ethernet cable.
I opened the Linksys Easy Setup (or similar name) Help tool to view what the Linksys tool could see. It saw that the laptop was connected to the router, but not the AE. Initially, the laptop was connected via Ethernet cable to the router, but I then made that a wireless connection withe the Easy Setup.
I opened Airport Utility and proceeded to configure the network for AE, via a Manual setup. Airport Utility was able to see my ad-hoc network and saw the AE, with its name "Apple Network XXXXXX".
I wanted to have the AE join my existing 64/40-bit WEP wireless network.
I had followed all of the prior advice but with no luck.
    Here's the kicker:
On one of the the Airport Utility tabs:
You want to select to "Join A Wireless Network".
On the tab that has the checkboxes , check your settings:
"Remember this password in my keychain" (Optional, I have it checked)
    "Set time automatically" (unchecked)
"Advertise configuration globally using Bonjour" (unchecked)
If you have the "time" and/or "Bonjour" checkboxes checked, you will get a different set of network connection types to select from under the Wireless tab, and the typical WEP settings (WEP 60/40) won't be among the choices
This is where I was having problems. If you use the above checkbox settings,
you WILL get the WEP 40 in the drop-down menu to choose from under the Wireless tab. Make sure that the password/encryption key that you use for is the same that your used for when setting-up your wireless router. You do not have to precede it with a $ sign. (Example: when you setup your WEP-40/64 connection with your router, you had to use a 10-hex digit encryption key, or provide a 5 ASCII character Passcode that would be converted into a 10-digit hex encryption key. My advice: Forget about the PassCode...just type in a 10-hex-digit key into the Key 1 slot in the router setup, and USE THIS SAME KEY in Airport Utility. It will be 10 hex digits long, where hex-digits are 0-9, and A-F.
Finish the setup, and once Airport Utility reconfigures, you will get the solid green LED on the AE. At this point disconnect the Ethernet cable.
Now, open your router's setup program and check the network. You should now see the AE on the same network as your router and laptop, wirelessly !
Open iTunes. In the lower-right corner, you should see a dropdown menu from which you may select speakers. Select your speakers by the name you gave them.
Click on any tune that you have in iTunes, and click the Play button. You should now be able to hear the tune playing out of your speakers, wirelessly !
You are no longer using the ad-hoc network. You now have the AE connected to same same wireless network that your laptop is on, via the wireless router.
Music is playing from iTunes (via AirTunes) on your laptop, though the router to the AE, to the speakers, wirelessly !

you don't mention which products you use
only ipad2 and up support mirror
and only iphone4s and up support mirror
other devices only use airplay for apps which support tvout options

  • Linksys router no longer works with Westell 6100 modem

    Hi all,
I came back after a 3 month work absence (and many days power outages, according to the neighbors), to find that my system can no longer connect to the internet using the Verizon Westell 6100 modem to a Linksys wrt54G router to 2 PCs!
I reset the Westell modem and directly connected the PC to it and THAT works okay, but put the router back in the mix (so I can connect my other PC) and nothing works!
I have read on this forum about 'Bridgeing" the Westell modem but nothing about setting up the router.
Can someone PLEASE give me explicit instructions on how to:
1.)  set up the Westell modem in this "Bridge" mode,
2.)  Set up the Linksys router to work with the modem again??
3.)  Tell me why the old setup no longer works, did verizon change something for this modem?
Thank you VERY much for your help in this matter!
    SUE  ;>)

the router has two connections.  one is called a WAN and that is a wide area network, and it means the internet in your case.  and one is called a LAN, local area network.
what you saw means - that the way you connect to your internet is through PPPoE, a username and a password.
and then way your LAN connects is DHCP,  how all of your local computers connect.  This is important, because after you bridge the westell, you will be setting your Linksys up for PPPoE connection, and NOT DHCP.      if you don't do this step, then you will never connect.
that is fine, and normal.  if you follow the instructions at the link provided - you will be able to connect real easily.
you will want to bridge the westell just follow the instructions for "If your Westell uses the red and black Verizon firmware:"

  • Airport will not connect to Linksys router after iDisk sync force quit

    Hi,
Hoping someone can help me here, kinda at my wits end.
A week ago I was video ichatting and restarted my MacBook because the video feed was sluggish. I thought a restart would help.
Unknown to me was that my iDisk was syncing. I recieved an warning dialogue box and was given the option of canceling the restart or force quitting the iDisk sync. I choose to force quit and proceed with the restart. After choosing to continue with the force quit I received an error message, it had the phrase "Mirror Agent" in it, and then my MacPro restarted.
Since that first restart, I have not been able to connect, using Airport, to my Linksys Wireless router (model # WRT54 GX4).
This is where it gets strange. Airport sees the router, displays a signal strength, shows up on my list of perfered networks...it displays all of the signs of a fully connected router but when I try to access the web, check mail or use iChat I cannot because Safari, Mail and iChat tell me that I am not connected to the internet.
When I ran the network dianogistic tool, it first asked me why I would want to run it because it thought I was already connected. After running the tool it still came back with the same results, I was connect to the internet. But I still couldn't launch Safari, it just hung.
This is where it gets really wierd. My wife, she's on a HP, can connect, using her built-in wireless card. Even after changing the Firmware on the Linksys router, her pc can still connect.
And here's the icing on the cake. There are some unprotected wireless networks on my street. I can connected to those but not my own! Something has to be blocking the signal between my AirPort card and the Linksys router. Does that make sense?
And if there is one saving grace to all of this, I still can connect to the web using the built-in Ethernet.
    Here's what I have tried:
Removed Perfered Network, restarted MAC, added network back, still no connectivity.
Removed security (was using WPA/WPA2) from the router still no connectivity.
Removed Airport Keychain, restarted MAC, added router back, still no connectivity.
Repaired the permissions on my HD, someone at work told me to try that, still no connectivity.
Updated firmware to Linksys router to version 1.00.20, no connectivity.
Rebooted Linksys router and cable modem, still no connectivity.
Thank you to all in advance for reading my rambling note and forgiving my poor spelling (it is way past my bedtime and the keys are really blurry). I am still very new to Mac's and appreiciate any help that you can provide.
    Cheers,
    Alan

Sounds like you have two wireless networks on the same channel.
Change the channel on the Airport Express.
