I want to purchase 2 iphones for Christmas gifts to replace lines on ATT contract ending in December. Can I purchase the two new phones before Christmas and port the ATT numbers to Sprint on Christmas day? Also whats the pros and cons of Apple Care vs. black tie protection?
I wouldn't count on it. I preordered mine on 10 October and still have yet to get a call. I would tend to lean toward AppleCare but I admit I'm not educated much on the BBY black tie. I've just heard the horror stories. I DO however recommend getting the BBY extended warranties on any high dollar electronics you may get. It's saved my two Tivo's and a printer over the years.

Whether you could qualify I can't say. And as Lawrence said, even without a contract the plans from the carriers are expensive, so you will need to consider whether you or your mother can afford the monthly ree.

Let's say I did want to use the phone capabilities of the iphone but do not want to activate it and pay out of my own pocket. What can I do? I have read so many SIM related posts but have yet to find the one, single, clear answer.

If you are a current ATT customer, you wont pay an activation fee for the iPhone. But you will have to add the iPhone data plan to your bill. I don't know what your paying now, but this may, or maynot affect your overall bill. I do know, that you will loose your corperate discount though. -

Yes, they can play games - there are hundreds if not thousands of games available in the iTunes Store. Beware of the "free" games; many are free for the base game but charge for things like additional levels, "coins" etc. and those paid add-ons can add up quickly, to dozens or even in some cases hundreds of dollars. I'd strongly suggest you set up restrictions on the iPad to prevent your children from making unauthorized purchases. See:

You will need an Internet provider of some sort; Apple is not a provider and so the iPad does not include a data service. You can either use a home Internet connection with a WiFi access point (aka "router") or you can get an iPad with WiFi+Cellular and sign up for a data plan with a cell carrier. WiFi through a home Internet service will probably be cheaper.

As I heard, If i get an unlocked iphone 5s, I can use it with my Wind Mobile which i have to have a $40 monthly plan for it. So, I want to buy an Iphone 5s that I can use it here with Wind Mobile and in turkey with my turkish line that supports Iphone. So, is it possible that I can purchase an Iphone 5s that will be usable within Canada and Turkey? Im asking because, In Turkey, you need to register the Imei of the phone on your Passport to use it. I dont know if you know the procedure in Canada and Turkey. Wind mobile wasnt supporting Iphones until they decided to let people use Iphone 5s with their $40 plan.And as i know, Turkey is the only country that asks you to register the imei on your passport to use it. So, most of people did not know it. so procedures are changing country by country. Are you sure that If I buy an Iphone 5s from a canadian apple store, use it with my wind mobile line and the turkish line in Turkey?

As long as you buy from an Apple retail Store (Apple owned ) an unlocked iPhone 4S it will work on GSM services worldwide

New Iphone for Christmas present.
Im really wanting to get my boyfriend the new iphone for christmas since he already has a plan with at&t. The only problem is I don't want him to know until christmas and then after christmas we both go in together to get his phone number transferred over to the iphone. Well to get a phone at the price advertised (the subsidized price) you have to 1) be eligible for an upgrade if you already are with AT&T) and 2, agree to two year extension. Thus your boyfriend has to be present to do so as he has to authorize.
Otherwise you have to pay FULL price for a contract free iPhone (a lot more money).
So pretty much need to just print out a nice picture of the iPhone, put it in a card and say you want to buy him one. -

Bad idea. There are no supported iPhone carriers in Iceland, thus some features may or may not work. Further, there will be no warranty or support for a US purchased iPhone in Iceland...your friend will be on their own. If you still want to go down this road, make sure you purchase an officially unlocked iPhone(GSM model) directly from Apple.

TIAThe iPhone is a GSM phone and works on GSM networks only - which is the worldwide standard - GSM networks dominate the overall worldwide market by a significant margin.
Alltel has a CDMA network and requires a CDMA phone. The iPhone is not compatible with CDMA networks. CDMA phones do not have a SIM card.
An unlocked iPhone - which can be used with a SIM card from any GSM network provider, is not covered under Apple's warranty. Unlocking an iPhone voids the warranty and eliminates any support from Apple. -

Look, any officially unlocked GSM iPhone will work in India. You purchase from Dubai, no FaceTime, and Dubai is part of the UAE. You purchase anywhere but India, and you will have NO warranty or support. Frankly, doesn't make any sense to me why you want to do this...and don't bother telling me you save hundreds of dollars...still doesn't make any sense. Do a forum search here. We get posts daily, from users in India, who didn't purchase their iPhones in India...guess what? They all have problems. You want to join that bunch? It's your money, have at it.

I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about.
