Want to Close All Runnings Apps at Once

is the only way to do this to either power down the ipad or close each one individually? When 30 apps are open at once...does this degrade performance on the ipad?

The MultiTasking Tray (name carried over from iPhone, and more than a bit misleading) contains the Recents List, meaning the ordered list of the last apps to have opened. Many people believe that all apps shown in that list are 'open and running'; this is not the case. The following is how I currently think that it works, and please keep in mine that I don't understand everything that I think I know about it.
Multitasking (MT) in iOS doesn't actually apply to most apps. 4.2 has a relatively small set (5-6?) of actions, mostly having to do with things like music playing and data being moved around or converted, which are allowed to continue when an app is closed. Most apps never touch those functions, and those that do won't necessarily be left in a 'running' state each and every time they're closed.
I know of no system limit on how many apps can be left 'running', i.e., in a MT state, but it will never be too many. iOS will leave apps open as long as possible but, as new apps are opened which need system resources now committed to MT, the OS will shut apps down in the order in which they were closed. Running apps can also be shut down manually, using the procedures outlined in the User's Guide to, essentially, edit the MT Tray.
The other main feature of iOS which comes into play when apps are closed is what you might call the 'state saver'. The OS uses and dedicates the exact same timing and resources to each app as it's shut: if the app can, and chooses to, do a state save at that point then what you will see next time you open that app is just what you were looking at when it closed. All you need to know about this is that not all apps will be doing this and the fact that one does doesn't necessarily mean that the app had been running.
So, is there anything to be gained by grinding through the MT Tray and 'shutting it all down'? Well, sure, I guess, sometimes. A little, maybe. But usually not that much. I personally don't bother, always have 40+ showing in the Recents list, and everything just keeps on truckin' on just fine. YMMV and, of course, everyone's gonna do what they want to do anyway.
I'm not really sure that the above applies equally to all apps anyway. For example, you can 'shut down' Mail, then start sending a bunch of messages to the iPad, all accounts. Notifications, at the very least, continue to work and all of the test messages are instantly there when Mail is next opened.
The issue of a 'mass delete' button for the Recents List might be a thing that some might aesthetically request; personally, I sort of think that if Apple thought you needed to be manually shutting down large numbers of apps on a regular basis then that feature would already be there.

  • Feature request: please give the ability to close all background apps at once!?

Hello. Please oh please give us the ability to close all open/running apps with one click or swipe. I, like many users, like to close running apps (much like on my computer) to keep my ipad/iPhone running fast. I know you guys say that background apps are put on pause and don't slow things down but that is simply not the case in real world usage. All the time my iPhone or iPad becomes sluggish and if I swipe 30 times to close all the apps the sluggishness goes away. I like the simple and easy to use ios, but a little more control for the user would be very beneficial. This, I would guess, is one of the main reasons one would get an android device instead, because they require for fine tune control. Giving us this feature, amoung a few others, would be a win win. The end user get more what they need, and apple steals away (or keeps) more loyal apple buyers.

I want to close all open apps on my iPad 2 iOS 7. I used to click twice quickly on the start button then do the same on one of the apps and they would all then appear with a minus sign whereupon I could tap each one and it would close. This doesn't happen now. How can I close open apps in iOS 7?

Close all apps in the multi-task window
    1.Double-click the Home button.
    2. Swipe the app's preview up to close it.
    3. Preview will fly off the screen.

  • I want to know HOW to CLOSE Multiple Open Apps at ONCE. I keep mistakenly opening lots of things at one time.

I want to know HOW to CLOSE Multiple Open Apps at ONCE. If I have many apps going at one time and want to stop fast, surely there is a way to hit like(alt-F4 in Windows) and BAM! They all go down. I need a feature like that...

Alt+F4 in Windows only closes the active program.
Command+Q does the same thing for Mac. Just keep hitting that key combo untill all are closed.

  • Can I close all background apps now at once?

Now in IOS 5, is there a way to clos all background apps at once?

Only certain apps actually run in the background.
The list you see when you double-click the Home button are also "Recently USed" apps and may already be closed.
This question was asked a lot when iOS4 originally came out and the short answer I'm afraid is "no", but don't worry about them unless they're GPS apps which will drain your battery in 4 hours if left running in the background.

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

Be aware that photos should always be synced to a computer for archiving and that relying on a restore from an icloud backup may not return all (or any) of your photos.  Once on the computer, you can sync the photos to the new device...

  • I recently bought an ipad 2 and wanted to use all the apps on my iphone4 on my ipad but have been charged when I use my apple id. What should I have done to share the apps?

I recently bought an ipad 2 and wanted to use all the apps on my iphone4 on my ipad but have been charged for the first app I downloaded when I use the same apple id. What should I have done to share the apps and should I have been charged? 2 months ago when I got a new iphone, i was told in order to get all my apps back as I hadn't backed up my files, if I used the same apple id I would 'purchase' the app, but then would not be charged as apple would recognise that I have already purchased the app. That worked, but when I did the same thing on my ipad 2 using the same apple Id, I was charged... what should I have done and is this right as I thought the whole point of having multiple apple devices was I could share apps between devices. please help! thanks.

Using the same Apple id and Password you should be able to download purchased apps without being charged again.
I download to an iPad/iPad2/iPhone3 & iPhone4 with no problem.

  • New Windows 7 machine - iPhone sync wants to erase all my apps...

I just reinstalled win 7, but have a complete backup prior to my restore.
When syncing aps, itunes now wants to remove all the apps from my phone !!!!
Can I not reverse sync and bring all the apps from my phone to my pc without loosing any aps or their data ?
Alternatively, how can I take my old backup and app files form my previous win 7 machine and restore to my new machine / keep my phone in sync ?
I wonder what it is going to do to my other data like contacts, notes etc ?

All 3rd party apps on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and they will be with Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes. If so and your complete backup of your iTunes library was done per the instructions per this link, no iTunes content on your iPhone will or should be erased with the first sync with iTunes on your re-installed operating system. How many times have you already paid that Microsoft tax? If this was the first time with this computer, it won't be the last, so for future reference backup your iTunes library per the simple instructions included with this link next time.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
No iTunes content on your iPhone is included with your iPhone's backup - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps. All iTunes content on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is included with your iPhone's backup.
If the apps on your iPhone are not in your iTunes library, with your iPhone connected and without syncing at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. After confirming all apps on your iPhone are now in your iTunes library, right-click on your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list and at the menu window that appears, select Back Up.
After the backup has completed, go to iTunes > Preferences and under the Devices tab confirm that your iPhone's backup is available.
If so, restore your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup. Stop the syncing with iTunes immediately after your iPhone has been restored from the backup to select Sync Apps under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by making sure all apps that were installed on your iPhone are selected below - or wait to do this immediately after the initial sync has completed to install the apps on your iPhone.
I wonder what it is going to do to my other data like contacts, notes etc ?
Although contacts and notes are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts and notes are designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. With Windows this can be with Outlook 2003, 2007, or 2010 along with syncing calendar events.

  • How do I close all the apps that are still open?

How do I close all the apps that are still open?

    You don't need to.
The "task bar" that Demo mentions above is not, in fact, a task bar at all - it is the Recently Used Apps list. Not all of the apps in this list are open, running or in memory.
iOS automatically handles closing apps that are not in use, so you don't have to manually manage them.

  • How to uninstall all CS6 apps at once

    Hi there
Since the update yesterday to Creative Cloud my InDesign CS6 crashes on startup. In the CC-aqpp I see both the CS6 and CC version. I can't uninstall all CS6 apps at once & make a fresh start with the CC version do I? I can only uninstall the apps individually. And that costs me a lot of time!
    Anyone ideas or solutions? Thanks!

    Hi Peter,
If CS6 is a suite like Design Standard CS6 then you can uninstall all the apps at once from Control panel>> Uninstall a program in Windows or Applications>> Utilities>> Adobe installers in Mac.
However, if the software's were stand alone then you would need to uninstall all of them once by once from the same locations mentioned above.
    Thanks!
