Yes!
Look for the Canopus ADVC110, which connects to your VCR via the RCA cables and your Mac via Firewire.

  • New iMAC - want to connect PC Laptop to Internet via iMAC Airport

Hello - I have a new IMAC and the Internet connection to the IMAC is fine but I'm having trouble establishing a wireless network.
The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well. My PC laptop is running Windows 2000 - and I have used it with a wireless router previously.
I can see the iMAC wireless network connection in my laptop's available network; however, I'm unable to connect to it.
Also, my IMAC system properties for Airport indicate that the wireless network is unavailable.
I've not selected any security settings - unless there's some default settings that I'm not aware of.
    Advice or suggestions please???

The store told me that I could use the Airport built into the MAC as a wireless router so that my PC laptop can access the Internet as well.
That's correct. You will be using your Mac OS X's Internet Sharing feature to share your iMac's wired Internet connection wirelessly, using the iMac's AirPort, to your PC laptop. However, you will not be able to use wireless security, as the only option available (WEP), for Internet Sharing, will only work with other Macs.
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Enable Software Firewall - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall
    - Click Stop to start the software firewall
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > PC laptop
    Setup Port Order - iMac
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that "AirPort" and "Built-In Ethernet" are enabled.
    - Verify that "Built-In Ethernet" is at the top of the list, followed by "AirPort".
    - Click "Apply Now."
Configure the Internet Connection - iMac
    System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-In Ethernet > TCP/IP
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Enable Internet Sharing - iMac
System Preferences > Sharing > Internet
    - Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
    - To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    - AirPort Options
    -- Network Name: <anything you want>
    -- Channel: Automatic
    -- Click OK
    - Click Start

  • Want to import "baseband" analog video to my IMAC

I'm looking for any products I can use to import/digitze from Analog base band video signals. Ideally RCA video and stereo RCA etc... bring in stuff from VHS into FCE and eventually make into DVDs etc....
Pinnacle product says it will bring all video captures straight into ITUNES... Is that a good thing? I'm new to this so any links to sites that help me with this (for Mac of course) would be much appreciated.

I looked them up - both the ADVC 55 and the 110. I see they are up in the 200$ range. The Pinnacle is at the 99$ range. Here's a follow-up questions that may help me get to the original answer:
Would the PC based Pinnacle products work on the Mac? Pinnacle has 50-60 $ products (the dazzles) but I think they only work on PC based systems. Considering they are simply doing the encode on the dazzle itself - I don't understand why it would not work on my mac - unless OS 10 can't talk to the Dazzle.
    Any thoughts?
(BTW - the Canopus product line does put out some excellant products... I may have to settle.... Ideally once the VHS is transferred I have this box I won't need. There should be an exchange site where you can rent the box for a few weeks and pass it on!)

  • What hardware i need to buy if i want to connect 8 analog lines

Hi, i need to connect in a branch office one router supporting :
    8 analog lines
    1 ethernet interface
    1 serial interface
    and support security issues.
what model in the 2600 family router i need to buy?
should i need to buy one network module NM-HDV2?
if i need to buy the NM-HDV2,may i connect two VIC2-4FXO?
    Thanks

    You would need
    2611XM chassis
    NM-HD-2V card
    VIC2-4FXO
    VIC2-4FXO
    WIC-1T
Appropriate IOS with voice and security feature sets.
The NM-HDV2 card has digital ports and only one VIC slot, so would not handle 8 analogue lines.
Best option is to contact your local Cisco office and speak to the account team to confirm if this system is best suited to your requirements.

  • Connecting external cassette and VHS to iMac

I have some audio cassettes and audio recordings on VHS that I would like to put on my iMac. The players are separates.
Is there a way in which I can play them through my iMac with adapter cords to the audio input on the back?
I would appreciate any suggestions and help that you may have.
    Thanks.

Yes you will need an adapter or cord that is RC right and left to 3.5 mini stereo like the one in this link: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?TabID=1&ModuleNo=31700&doy=19m2
The Audio In port accommodates both digital optical input and analog audio input.
Analog audio line input is accepted through a 3.5mm mini phone jack. The sound input jack accepts line-level stereo signals up to 24-bit stereo 44.1-192kHz sampling rate. It also accepts a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable adapter for connecting stereo equipment to the computer.

  • When I want to connect to my macbook from my imac eventhough it shows up in the finder it still keeps asking for username and password!

there is a flashing window which keeps asking:   "enter your name and password for the server "192.168.1.102" (which is my Macbook's ip address)". choices are:
connect as: Guest or Registered User;  Name and password;  at the bottom: cancel or connect....
whatever I do it keeps coming back! I select: guest , click connect; it says "the server 192.168.1.102 does not allow Guest access".
I select Registered User; enter Name and password, the window disappears for a second without any popups but comes back up again .... "enter your name and password for the server........."
Just to see what response I would get I wrote different/wrong name and password;  it said   "you entered an invalid username or password please try again".... and then I click OK ....
and I am back to square one! I click cancel same thing ....window keeps coming back up asking me to "enter name and password for the server......."
Meanwhile when I open Finder; under SHARED I see 2 entries: "192.168.1.102" connected as "Ni...  ZA..." (My user name)  and "Ni.... Macbook" which has the same ip address as above and also connected as nidra... my other user name.
All the sharing files are on; security/firewall is off...
I just bought the iMac, 21.5 inch, 2.5 ghz, intel core quad i5, 500 gb

On your MB, go to system preferences>user and enable the guest account and login to that account
On your MB, go to system preferences>user and create a new user for remote access, choose a password and login to that account.
Either of these should work, if not, post back.

  • I have a pc, iphone 4s and ipad2, my daughter has an iphone 4s and macbook pro.  I want to share an itunes account.  Can there be two icloud accounts sharing one itunes account?

Between my daughter and I, we have 6 devices, can they all share the same itunes account and have two separate icloud accounts?  My itunes account ID is different from my apple ID and my daughter's apple ID.  Is it ok that they are all different.  If yes, how do they all sync up if they are different?  Help!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes that will work, enter the iTunes Store details into itunes on the computer and into settings > Store on your iOS devices in all cases, enter your iCloud Sync ID into system preferences > iCloud on the computer and settings > iCloud on iOS devices as required for each iCloud ID.

  • How to connect JVC DVd player and video cassette recorder to QIP 7100 and Panasonic TC-32lx44

What cables do I need to connect my DVD/VCR recorder through my QIP 7100 to see on my TV? I would appreciate any assistance with this since I am a novice.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You cannot run ANY signal through a Set top box to a Television. The only input on the boxes that is actually functional is the coaxial cable. The only way your are going to connect your DVD player to the TV is via one of the AV inputs on the Television itself.
Hopefully your Television has at least 2 sets of AV inputs, because you are going to need them. 1 for the VCR and 1 for the DVD player.
Depending upon the TV, VCR and DVD player, the connections possible are:
1). HDMI cable from TV to DVD if the DVD player has HDMI and the TV has a 2nd HDMI input. It is very unlikely your VCR supports HDMI.
2). Component Video (RGB) plus Audio AV cables from audio and component outputs on the DVD player to a set of component and coresponding audio inputs on the Television. It is unlikely that your VCR supports component video.
3). S-VHS cable from DVD player or VCR  to S-VHS input on the TV (if there is one), and audio AV cables from the audio outputs on the DVD/VCR player to the corresponding audio input on the TV for the S-VHS cable. If S-VHS is not available, you can use composite video instead. HDMI and Component video will give you the best picture and composite video will give you the lowest quality picture, but depending upon the equipment, your VCR may not have an S-VHS output available.

  • Convert analog video to digital using a miniDV camcorder

    Hi hi
So I want to convert some old analog videos I have from about 10 or so years ago to digital so I can edit them in iMovie HD. I've been reading a lot of the forums around and have successfully (I think) connect the analog video camera to the the miniDV (a Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E) using that A/V jack in the digital recorder and the analog to connect them. And the digital recorder is connected to the computer via firewire. So that's all right.
But now I'm up to the stage where I need to import it into iMovie HD (version 5.0.2) and it's been stubborn and not doing anything. I press play on the analog like people have said but iMovie just says "Camera no tape" and the "import" is unclickable.
Please please please please help! I've no idea what I'm doing wrong!
So just for quick reference, I'm using:
    iMovie HD 5.0.2
Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E (Mini DV) and
    Panasonic NV-VZ1 (analog video recorder)
P.S I don't want to have to record onto the the mini DV tapes because I've got none.
    Thanks!

    Hi catspaw! Thanks for replying
I probably should have mentioned before that I did change the 'A/V to DV out' to on, and I think that's the same as "passthrough"
And I've tried suggestion 2 as well, but to no avail! The connection either dropped once I took the tape out or it started to film on my iSight camera! Which is bizarre because my iMovie usually does not let me film with it! I've also been able to film with the camera connected to the computer and recording on the computer and see what I'm fliming on the computer.
But thanks for your help anyway!

  • Trouble capturing analog video using Quicktime 7 in Yosemite

I am attempting to use Quicktime 7 Pro under Yosemite to convert old 8 mm or Hi8 analog videotapes to digital .mov files. The tapes are being played through a Sony TRV350 camcorder, which digitizes the analog video, and outputs digital video via the iLink (Firewire) output, which then goes to the Thunderbolt input on my MacBook Pro using an adapter. I start the camcorder and then start QT7 Pro.
This DOES WORK - for a short while. After taking in 32MB of data or a minute (of a 90 minute video), QT7 stops capturing data with a message:
"Recording stopped because the format of the source media changed. Media of different formats cannot be recorded to the same file"
What does this mean and how do I get around it?
PS: There are not many ways to convert these old tapes. Under Yosemite iMovie will no longer accept video from a Hi8 camcorder. There is some discussion of older iMovie HD but this does not work properly under Yosemite at all.
Need to digitize these old family tapes - any help will be appreciated

One tiny wrinkle is that "Save" from Vidi gives an error message but "Save as" works fine. I suspect Vidi may also stop working with the next OS X release.
Since you did not indicate the specific nature of the error message, I don't know if this is a "fixable" problem or not. The difference between the "Save/Record" and "Save As.../Record As..." options is that the former automatically stored the captured files in a designated location using a default filename. You may wish to check or reset the preference settings here to see they are causing your issue.
Yes, the conversion of a 90 min tape does give a 21 GB file but I don't care - these family videos are irreplaceable and storage is cheap.
This sounds about right—i.e, the normal average DV-25/DVCPRO-25 total data rate is on the order of 28.5 Mbps (or about 13 GB/hour) with DV-50/DVCPRO-50 about 57 Mbps and DV-100/HDV about 114 Mbps.
One more question. Now that I have a DV file, what can I use to convert to a more compressed format that preserves quality? QT7 to save as H.264 is best? Or something else? Toast?
This normally depends on your goals and personal workflow preferences.
For instance, if you are editing content (i.e., trimming; merging; adding titles, fades, transitions, effects, etc.), I would normally use the export/share options that are available from within the editing app itself. On the other hand, for simple trims and export/share of files, I would normally use QT X or QT 7 Pro depending on the specific project needs and/or level of manual control desired. For totally edit-free conversions, I would normally use the encoder options now built into Yosemite (or Mavericks) operating system at the Finder level or the free HandBrake app. (The former basically employs a non-anamorphic approach with high/low quality or target device controlled quality options while the latter has a better graphic user interface for anamorphic strategies with more manual control for truly customized exports as needed.)
EXAMPLE 1: The family normal has Thanksgiving at my brother-in-laws home in PA so my son hosts a second "pseudo-Thanksgiving" dinner on January 1st for the relatives here in NJ. This year I wore a GoPro and within minutes of returning home created the following "trailer" of the gathering (with a total absence of any real planning or forethought) using iMovie to shared the file directly to Mail for posting to others. In this case, I used the video editor to both edit and share a "quickie" video with the rest of our relatives from the East to West Coast. I.e., it seemed the most efficient workflow for the mini-project... SAMPLE VIDEO
EXAMPLE 2: On the other hand, several yeas ago I was asked to post a "quickie" tutorial showing how to layer audio and video content. As this was a relatively simple project, I used QT 7 Pro for this project. Here is the resulting SAMPLE FILE created while making the tutorial.
EXAMPLE 3: In cases where the quality of the source file varies drastically—one video being an 80 year old cinema classic and the next a just released blockbuster loaded with special effects—and/or the source files are not "natively" compatible with QT, I prefer HandBrake for its ability to "tweak" settings over a wide range to create "universal" playback files for all mobile devices, local network streaming, and sharing via internet... SAMPLE 1959 TRAILER
EXAMPLE 4: Lastly, when I simply want to just transcode one or more QT compatible files (for any number of reasons) at the Finder level without having to open a dedicated converter utility, I simply select/highlight the files in the Finder and pass them to the Yosemite/Mavericks operating system for conversion... POCKET RECORDER SAMPLE FILE
As you can see, you have a myriad of options to choose from depending on your personal preferences, needs, goals, etc. As to H.24/X.264/MPEG-4 AVC, yes I would recommend sticking with any encoder that adheres to the JVT standard since it has become a default Mac system standard and, with different settings, is extremely scaleable with regard to use—i.e., it can handle anything from cellular streaming to Blu-ray or multi-K Hi-Def resolutions. However, for all-purpose use, I stick to High Profile (current mobile, TV, High-Speed Internet compatible) or Main Profile (older mobile device, original TV, lower-speed platform compatible) anamorphic encodes at level 3.1 which nicely covers data rates from less then 100 Kbps up to 14 Mbps or anything most users will ever need.

  • Broadcasting MPEG 2 video with multichannel audio

    Dear sir
Using PrPro 2 or CS4 I want to export MPEG 2 video with multichannel audio  ( 2 separated stereo channels ) for broadcasting purposes .
As you know there are some TV channels that allows you to switch between two audio tracks , which I am  looking to accomplish
This is some of specifications that I use for video production :
    1. Primer  DV PAL preset .
    2. AVI format
    3. Canopus Grass Valley ProCoder 3 ( to convert video from AVI to MPEG 2 ) according to the Broadcasting standers .
As you see I'm not able to separate the 2 Audio tracks when I try to export the video file.
So If you have specific method or steps to apply ( 2 separated stereo channels ) for one video file , please be kind to inform me with it .
also please let me know if I missed any details .
    Best wishes

Very very very nice that is all what I am asking for .
I tried and it worked perfectly but the file has a .VOB extinction … I changed it to .mpg and now I can play it in Windows Media Player too .
Ok , so far so good, your advise was very helpful so thank you very much but what abut broadcasting ? is it going to mach the broadcasting standers ?
I know.. these are lots of stupid questions but I am asking if you know any thing about it or some resources that can be used.
When I converted it using The ( Procoder ) to mach the broadcasting standers I got only one audio track .
I appreciate the generosity and your attention .
    Best wishes

  • How can I cut some video but keep audio running?

    Hello
I once knew how to do this but forgot, and can't find it in any discussions or help files.
I have some shaky, crummy video but the audio in it is good.
I am editing the video, but I want to keep a running audio track from the original DV import.
"Paste over at playhead" is not the answer (unless I got it wrong).
I doubt this is the best way to do it but I am presently copying a clip; extracting the audio; placing that audio back into the timeline under the video; hacking up the video...and hoping the length is close to perfect. (Surely not the way to do it).
    Tips? Thanks

    David
You know, somehow your explanation made more sense than the iMovie Help file explanation. (Though it has some additional info that touches on what remains a bit of a problem for me).
In any case, thanks. I am using this technique right now. The difficulty that remains for me is how to deal with a short segment of video (to paste) over a 2 or 3 times longer segment of audio. The help info and my own experimentation show that the remaining space gets filled with black. Not very pretty or smooth.
Which leads me to my response to the other person who replied to my post...
    *Glo H*
Yes. I am copying the clip so I can have needed video to fill the space as the audio plays. But I'm pretty sure this is not the smart, most efficient way.
    (See David's reply).
I am continuing experimentation but am very much open to any other suggestions.
    Thanks again.
