Want to control WIndows VNC Servers wirth ARD 3

Hi,
i am not able to control Windows VNC Server (Ultra VNC 1.02/1.03) with ARD 3 in the local net. We use on several PC servers and PC clients UltraVNC over years.
Any idea? Apple Support can't help yet.
Is there an existing list which VNC-Softwares on PC side work with ARD 3? I don't want to change to OSX Vine. In the past i used "Chicken of VNC" to control the PC's.

  • How to control windows XP machine with ARD (by using a VNC Client on the PC

I have TightVNC on the Windows machine and I can control it fine with Chicken of the VNC on the Mac; however, I would like to control the Windows machine with ARD like Apple's website states.
    How do I do this?
    thanks
    Matt

Thanks, I found my problem to be the VNC client I was using on the PC's. I was using TightVNC and while it worked for Chicken, it did not work for ARD. Once I installed RealVNC and configured it everything worked beautifully.
    thanks

Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

  • Remotely Control Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hey,
So this is my problem: I've got two computers at home. One's a Mac and the other is a Wndows 7 Home Premium machine.
I have Lion Server coupled with ARD 3 and need to remotely control the Windows computer. I have installed VNC 4 (on Windows) but don't know what to do next.
I understand there is a bunch of restrictions within Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes to remote connections but it's something I really need to sort out.
Do you know how to set up ARD with Windows VNC (or any other paths to remote control)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Cameron

    Hey,
So on the Windows PC the "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" checkbox is marked.
And on the Mac the error message reads:
"The Mac cannot connect to the Windows based computer.
    This problem can occur if:
    • The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections.
    • The Windows-based computer is not turned on.
    • The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator."
    Thanks for being so helpful!

  • Remote Management and Windows VNC clients

    Hey guys,
I recently had a go at getting the built-in VNC server in Leopard (as part of remote management) up and running.
Remote control works flawlessly from other Macs, but it refuses connections to Windows clients most of the time (throws up errors like 'Error waiting for server message' or something).
Any ideas? I thought it might have something to do with the Windows client not understanding the encryption, but haven't found any way to change security settings.
    Thanks in advance!

Have you giving the server a VNC password?
System Preferences -> Sharing -> Remote Management -> Computer Settings -> VNC viewers may control screen with password: xxxxxxx
What VNC client are you using on Windows. Not all VNC clients are created equal? I know about TightVNC (which has been reported to work), RealVNC, and UltraVNC are 3 that I've heard about.
You can also install your own VNC server (in parallel using a different port or instead of the Mac OS X VNC). Vine Server (aka OSXvnc) has been used successfully for years. After all not all VNC servers are created equal either

  • Xserve Control via VNC

Is it possible to control an Xserve running 10.4.9 from a Windows Vista box via VNC?
I tried before with a server running Panther and didn't have any luck, even though I had updated the Remote Desktop client on the server to version 3.
Is there VNC software for Windows that works better than others?
I have configured the Sharing/Remote Desktop screen to allow VNC control of the screen. This client is an hour drive away and I want to arrive prepared.
    Thanks

    Hi
I have some experience on this front, I have had mixed results using VNC windows clients to access the built in VNC server in OS X Server.
The only VNC client that seemed to reliably work was Ultra VNC-
    http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/
This client works most of the time but out of 10 vnc sessions 2 will give you a black screen with no video and then it will overload the vnc server on the Xserve. From here you have to ssh over and kill that process.
    This can be quite frustrating.
FYI this happens on Panther and Tiger, both exhibit this overload after repeated connections by a windows vnc client
I did test many other free vnc clients but could only get ultra vnc to work to a degree.

  • NO java control panel in windows system control window

    Hello together,
there seems to be a bug/feature (?) not allowing me to use the plugin functionality of my J2EEsdk-1_4
    Situation:
Before i installed the J2EE i had an already installed java plug-in 1_4_2 working fine on
my Laptop giving my ms explorer 6.0 the Java VM needed. To avoid conflicts, i deinstalled
this plug-in, before i installed the J2EE 1_4_2. The result was disapointing.
There was NO java control panel in the windows2000 system control window after installing J2EE.
There was no corresponding registration key in the registry anymore.
Additionally there was no java related entrance to be seen anymore in the advanced internet and
security options of my ms explorer 6.0.
i have have found several trouble reports mentioned similar problems during the last months but unluckily
    no solution working for me.
i did several tests with different java packages i downloaded today to get the actual versions
    First:
i deinstalled the J2EE (not to get version conflicts) and installed the Java Plug-in 1.4.2 again.
This was proposed from ms explorer, when i tried to open an internet page with javaplugins included.
This plugin worked fine again. I could see and use the java panel and it enabled
my explorer to use the java plugin.
    Second:
i deinstalled the Java Plugin and installed the J2sdk_1_4_2 instead.
The java plugin which is part of this package also worked fine.
    Third:
i deinstalled the J2sdk_1_4_2 and installed the J2EEsdk-1_4-windows.exe.
the same misbehaviour as mentioned before. No java panel icon can be seen
in the windows system control, now registration......
as a workaround i have installed now both, the J2eesdk (i want to learn about)
and some additonal 100 MB java plug-in to enable my MS explorer to display
    java applets again.
This is working fine again, but i really would prefer to have no need for two JREs.
    By the way:
When i first opened the java control panel of the Plug-in and deactivated the update
mechanism , this plugin got really angry immedialtely afterwards. As a result my
laptop rebooted without coming up again. i had to initiate another hard reboot to get
    windows back
i really would like to know , whats wrong me or the J2ee and i apriciate
    any hint.
    Best regards: yours aspirant

One thing you could do if you by all means want to have only one single copy of 1.4.2 on your system is to install standalone J2SE 1.4.2 (this will accomodate your Java console and browser plugin requirements) and then install Application Server only distribution (on the download page this is referred to as "Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8") and sample applications set ("J2EE 1.4 SDK Samples "). In this way you get full content you would get in J2EE 1.4 SDK and all the benefits of standalone J2SE 1.4.2 installation.
This is obviously more convoluted at installation time since there are 3 separate things to install, but it would seem to fit your requirements.
    Hope this helps...

Ok so ive been thinking about installing windows XP, Vista, or maybe even windows 7 on my iMac. The only problem is, i just got a mac and i dont know too much about it (slowly learning though) and i dont want to overwhelm myself. Ive seen tutorials on how to install windows using bootcamp, but what i want to know is how can i uninstall/delete the partition and have everything back to normal if i end up wanting to take windows off my iMac? And how hard would it be?

It's easy to remove a BootCamp partition.
    Some other comments:
    1) Besides the BootCamp option, there are at least two programs that let you run Windows under Mac OS X without having to reboot between them: VMware Fusion (http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/) and Parallels Desktop (http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/).
    2) BootCamp hasn't yet been updated to support Windows 7. Most things should work, but it's not guaranteed.
    3) You might find this electronic book useful: http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/windows-on-mac for USD10, currently discounted 50% to USD5. (I have no financial relation with the Take Control people.)

  • Want to install Windows on my MacBook...am I out of luck?

    Hi guys,
So I have a Late 2008 Unibody 13" MacBook ("MacBook 5,1") which I recently upgraded by installing Mavericks (previously had Snow Leopard.)
I want to install Windows on a partition via Boot Camp. Previously, I had Windows XP installed, but I had deleted the Boot Camp partition to free up space for my Mac HD prior to upgrading to Mavericks.
But now I see that the new version of Boot Camp that comes with Mavericks (Version 5.1.0) has dropped support for Windows XP.
Moreover, this page on Apple's support website tells me that Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are not supported on my MacBook model: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
So, am I screwed? Is there no version of Windows that can work with my MacBook model (MacBook 5,1) and Boot Camp 5.1.0?
    Please help!

UPDATE: I'm happy to report that Windows 7 64-bit does work perfectly with Boot Camp on my machine!
To help out anyone else who might need to install Windows 7 64-bit on their MacBook, I will outline what I did below. Please note that the following instructions worked for me on my system (MacBook 5,1 Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody 13", Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, GeForce 9400M GPU, 8 GB RAM running OSX Mavericks and Boot Camp 5.10); I don't know if they will apply to any other MacBook models. Since my MacBook comes with an inbuilt DVD drive, I didn't need to create a bootable USB version of Windows; I simply used a (legitimate) Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installation disc and product key.
    1. Back up your important files on OSX using your favorite backup method.
    2. Download the Boot Camp Support Software version 4.0.4033 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630. These are the drivers you need to install in Windows 7 to get your OS to recognize and use your hardware.
    3. Unzip the zip file from the previous step and copy the contents (the folder named "BootCamp") to an empty USB stick that is FAT-formatted (to format the USB, you can use Disk Utility in OSX.)
    4. Safely eject the USB once the folder has been copied onto it.
    5. Insert your Windows 7 64-bit installation disc into your DVD drive.
    6. Start Boot Camp Assistant.
    7. Uncheck the box that tells you to download Windows support software (you have already done so; it's on your USB stick.)
    8. Proceed with partitioning. Once finished, the computer will restart and Windows 7 installation should begin.
    9. Hurdle 1: When the installation process for Windows 7 started up and the program asked me which partition I wanted to install Windows on, it wouldn't initially allow me to select the Boot Camp partition. I had to select that partition and click on "Format" first before it allowed me to install Windows onto it.
    10. Windows 7 installation should proceed normally.
    11. Once you have loaded into you Desktop, it is time to install the support software (i.e. drivers) from your USB. Insert the USB and copy the BootCamp folder onto your desktop. If you don't have an external mouse, pressing Shift-F10 will do the the same thing as right-clicking.
    12. Hurdle 2: After copying the zip file containing the Boot Camp drivers to the desktop, I tried installing them via the setup file but got the error message "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model". This is a LIE! To fix this, I first disabled the User Account Control (Start>Control Panel>User Accounts>Change User Account Control Settings>set to "Never Notify.") Then I rebooted. After rebooting, I navigated to the zip file BootCamp>Drivers>Apple>BootCamp.msi and it installed all the Boot Camp drivers perfectly. I rebooted again as per the installation process requirements.
    13. Run Windows Update to get all of Microsoft's updates, including Service Pack 1 (took me hours...)
    14. Hurdle 3: After updating my NVIDIA GPU (GeForce 9400M) driver to the most recent driver version (334.89 WHQL) via their automatic update program, I lost the ability to control my screen brightness (pressing the brightness keys brought up the brightness level indicator, but did not affect the actual screen brightness.) To fix this, I had to do the following:
14a. Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Device Manager>Monitor>Right-click Generic PnP Display and DISABLE it.
14b. Open regedit by typing "regedit" in the Start menu search bar.
14c. Navigate to the following sub key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/Video/0000
14d. Create a new DWORD named "EnableBrightnessControl" and set its value to be 1.
    14e. Reboot.
After having done all this, Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 64-bit works flawlessly on my MacBook. I'm also happy to say that Guild Wars 2 runs quite well on low settings, which was the whole point of going through this.
I hope this thread is useful to others.

  • ECC Windows APP SERVERS to offload 2 of 5 DIA instances from i570-10way

We need a cost effective solution to get us over a hump for a few months.
We recently created 2 more DIA instances on our i570 ECC 6.0 Unicode server and due to the nature of the ABAP code running on those 2 instances (SAP pricing routines), we just cannot absorb the CPU demand and are pegging the CPU utilization frequently.
So, we need to separate the 2 new DIA instances and remove them from the i5. (already running CI & 3 DIA instances)
We only need to run this application in this fashion for about 5 months, so don't want to heavily invest in adding 2 more i5 CPU's  (which are already in the box being a 10way) and about 20+GB more memory.
Has anyone successfully put Intel / Windows app servers into their i5 solution landscape?  Anything special required to support this multi-platform <SID>.
Realize the kernels would be different and not sure the complexities that will introduce, but we're already in discussion with Volker G. to take care of that for us.
Don't have to be concerned about backup strategy as the APP servers don't change except as a result of a kernel patch.
Don't need too much disk, so can go with internel to the xSeries server.
Naturally, there will be overhead from the APP server to DB but that's acceptable (within reason)
Sizing for xSeries -- 4way/quad core 32GB memory for each app server?
Feedback very much appreciated -- been running ECC on i for 10.5 years now
    Regards

Chris - thank you for responding with accurate information
Chris - Yes, did realize that the 1st answer to my post was incorrect information for the i5/OS platform and am very disappointed that is "allowed" in the forums.  Can a moderator delete?
Volker - thank you for the feedback for the xSeries size and also the heads up that we will need to isolate the traffic from xSeries to iSeries "app server to db server" on it's own which will require the extra ethernet card in the i5.
We do have 3 ethernet cards in the i5 already but they are all being used.  2 for SAP virtual ip to make highly available and 1 to keep the MIMIX traffic on it's own.
We will plan for a 4th (maybe even a 5th for virtual ha) ethernet card(s) for the i5 and yes 2 (actually 3 for HA) for the xSeries.

  • I DON'T want a new window!!!

I want to open a link in a new tab - I DON'T want a new window, even if the page specifies a width or height. I can't believe that FF would try to think for me and override MY prefs - I though that stupidity was left to MS! Even Safari 4 (4.1.2) gives me the option to always open in a new tab no matter what. A web site doesn't deserve to take over my browser, and any good site will be designed or programmed to handle any width/height.
Any way to hack this setting? Or do we wait and hope that FF returns control to the user?

You can check these prefs on the about:config page.

Is following message due to 'Java' setting left unchecked?
Mac OSX supportsUser Authentication Mechanism (UAM) plug - ins from other manufacturers to control access to servers. To use a UAM, copy the plug - in to: Library/ Filesystems/ AppleShare/ Authenti

Man that is an ancient message.
The last time I saw that was using Mac clients connected to a Microsoft (Windows) Server running 'Services for Macintosh' which included the ability to act as an AppleShare compatible file server. Because Microsoft have a different security system for defining accounts which includes the 'domain' as well as username, the standard Mac AFP client did not know how to send that information.
Therefore Apple made it possible to installed a plugin in the form of a UAM or User Authentication Mechanism which added the ability to send this information to login to the fileserver.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/101747
However Microsoft have long discontinued 'Services for Macintosh' and now the only way for a Mac to connect to a standard Windows Server is via SMB not AFP. I don't believe this plugin is available to download anymore.

  • Can i change depreciation and prorate calendar in book controls window?????

    Hi all
    I am using FA module.
I tried to find this on documentation but i did find it. I want to be sure if i can change the depreciation and prorate calendar on book controls window??
If it is possible to change this information, please tell me how can i do this or if there is any profile option for this purpose.
    Thank you and best regards
    Ernest

You can't change depreciation and prorate calendar on the book level, this way isn't supported and I think a hard coded update dosn't works.
If you will change these, you must implemented a new asset book and migrate the existing data into this book

  • Have keyframes in effect controls window coincide with main time line

    Hello,
Is there any way I can have the time line in my effects control window coincide with my main time line ?
Example,  I add keyframes along my main time line, but any time I wish to edit  them, I need to scrub my effect controls window timeline to get to that
spot  that coincides on the main time line.  I'm just wondering how I can  have both time lines show the same area at the same time.
So  if I'm at the end of my time line, and add a keyframe, and then wish to  just scrub or move my cursor to the beginning of my main time line, the
time  line in the upper window ( effects control window ) does not reflect  the area of the main time line I am currently at, I need to actually  click the time time
line ( main time line ) in order to "refresh" the upper effect control window time line.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Dave.

    Hi Jim,
that's what I mean, thanks for info.  I guess this isn't a popular want from users, I just thought it would be neat if we could do this, it's not a big deal, but I thought
I would ask.  Thanks for the informatiion - at least I know now.

  • Mac Mini with no monitor controlled via VNC - video output corrupt

    Hi,
I have a Mini running with no monitor, mouse or keyboard connected (it's used as a Server for my music library) that I control via VNC on my Mac Book.
Everything works fine until I ever have to reboot the Mini. After the reboot, logging into the machine via VNC shows all the video corrupt (jagged horizontal lines through the whole display making it totally undreadable).
This happens both with ARD and Chicken of the VNC (tried both in case it was an issue with the VNC software).
To fix it I have to connect a monitor to the Mini. Then I can just unplug the monitor again and the video output via VNC is fixed.
Anyone have any ideas? It's driving me nuts
    Thanks,
    Neil

    After some more searching I stumbled across this thread on another forum;
    http://www.macusenet.com/archive/index-t-75211.html
It seems that the problem can be avoided by connecting the DVI-S-Video adapter that ships with the Mini.
