Want to convert .CSV file into an internal table

Hi Experts,
I have a file for eg. data.csv on the application server and i want to transfer its contents to an internal table.
i tried using function module 'KCD_CSV_FILE_TO_INTERN_CONVERT' but it gives the UPLOAD_CSV exception.

Best way to read a CSV file into an internal table

Hi,
I have a comma seprated file, which I need to read into an internal table, and be able to look at particular values - basically looping round and populating BDC fields. Whats the easiest way of doing this?

The easiest way would be to define a flat interal table.
Data: begin of itab occurs 0,
      rec(1000) type c,
      end of itab.
Then call the function module GUI_UPLOAD to get the data into your internal table from the file on the frontend. I assume that you know how to use this function module. You could also use the method GUI_UPLOAD of the class CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES.
For example, say you have a comman delimited file with materail number, plant, quantity in it.
4000001,0004,1.00
4000002,0006,2.00
Define another internal table to hold the data.
Data: begin of itab2 occurs 0,
      matnr type mara-matnr
      werks type marc-werks
      quant(10) type c.
      end of itab2.
Then loop at the internal table(ITAB) and use the split statement to split it up into the appropriate fields of the other interal table(ITAB2).
Loop at itab.
clear itab2.
split itab-rec at ',' into itab2-matnr
                           itab2-werks
                           itab2-quant.
append itab2.
endloop.
That's it.

You can use the java.io API to read (and write) files. Use BufferedReader to read the CSV file line by line. Use String#split() to split each line into an array of parts which were separated by comma (or semicolon). If necessary run some escaping of quotes. Finally collect all parts in a two-dimensional List of Strings or a List of Javabeans.

Collect data from a dynamic XML file into multiple internal tables

I need to convert the XML file into multiple internal tables. I tried many links and posts in SDN but still was facing difficulty in achieving this. Can some one tell me where I am going wrong.
My XML file is of the following type.It is very complex and the dynamice.
The following tags occur more than once in the XML file. The "I" and "L" tags and its child tags can occur ones or more than once for each XML file and it is not constant. i.e in one file they can occur 1 time and in another they can occur 100 times.
"I" and "L" are child tags of <C>

Thanks for the effort!
But I don't need to use GUI upload because my functionality does not require to fetch data from presentation server.
Moreover, the split command advised by you contains separate fields...f1, f2, f3... and I cannot use it because I have 164 fields. I will have to split into 164 fields and assign the values back to 164 fields in the work area/header line.
Moreover I have about 10 such work areas. so the effort would be ten times the above effort! I want to avoid this! Please help!

you just wanted to load the xml file into internal table (as a table of binary strings)or load the xml data mapped to itab row columns
for the first one you can simply use gui_upload
and for the second one you need to load the xml file using gui_upload and use XLST program to transform into an itab

Error converting CSV file into internal table

Hi,
I have to convert a large CSV file (>20.000 entries) into an internal table. I used FM GUI_UPLOAD to get a raw data table then convert this table using FM TEXT_CONVERT_CSV_TO_SAP.
But this does not seem to work properly: after 16.000 or so, the FM seems stuck as if in an endless loop.
Note that if I split the CSV file in several parts, the conversion runs successfully.
Is there any memory limit with this FM ?

Instead of using two function modules, you can use 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP' function module once by specifying file name in that function module itself. It does not take much time.

How to upload an Excel file using GUI_UPLOAD?? what should be the values of the parameters? The function modules ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE and KCD_EXCEL_OLE_TO_INT are not present in CRM. Please suggest me a way out!

How to read data in correct format from EXCEL file into an internal table??

My requirement is to upload data from an excel file on presentation server into an internal table on SRM server.
I used 'GUI_UPLOAD' function module to achieve the same but all the the data is getting uploaded in # only.I had set in the 'HAS_FIELD_SEPARATOR' to 'X' to overcome this problem.
But all the efforts are in vain. The function module 'ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE' doesn't exist on SRM Server and I am not getting any other function module having similar functionality available on SRM server.
I have written the following code:-

We do not support CSV import at this stage, we only support XLS import.

Hallo,
it is really quite easy! Our firm has developed a proprietary technology for a life assurance application which is configurable and adapts to changing requirements in the mapping between the CSV format and the XML. Unfortunately, I cannot release the technology to you, unless you wish to purchase it, or purchase consultancy from us.
I can however give you a couple of hints.
The most important starting position is to identify on paper how you want to map the fields in your csv-file to XML elements. You need to prepare a schema for the XML file, to document its structure. When you have done this, then you can start to implement the necessary solution.
Then you need to parse your CSV-file, to identify the fields in each line. It is often helpful if the first line of the csv-file contains the field names as a check, but it is not 100% necessary. You could, for example, store the fields in a Vector, or with associated field names in a Hashtable. You could build a Hashtable which maps csv-fields to XML-element-names. You then go through the individual fields and build a DOM-Tree, inserting the associated XML-elements in the correct positions. It is then a simple matter to transform your DOM-Tree to an XML file. For speed of implementation, we normally use XALAN with an xslt script, so that the XML looks reasonably formatted in the file.

Using GUI_upload convert file to internal table data.
Using the below statement separate header and data from CSV.
Read t_itab into wa_titab index 1.
delete t_itab from wa_itab.
Create an internal table with the structure same as 'CSV' file and use the below statement to separate.
loop at t_itab into wa_itab.
      split wa_itab-rec at ',' into var1 var2 var3.
      wa_output-v1 = var1.
      wa_output-v2 = var2.
      wa_output-v3 = var3.
    append wa_output to t_output.
endloop.
