Want to create a small Movie to play on ipod

Hallo
I want to create a small Movie-file to play on my iPod, but I don't want to use the quite large Standard iPod-Format. What other choices do I have? I tried MPEG4, but it didn't play.
I produce a Videopodcast, and want to keep the size small, and it should also play on iPods.
Any Suggestions?
Thanks everybody.
Greetings from Switzerland
Rolf

Okay, thank you for trying to help me, but I guess, I didn't make clear what I really want.It would be a lot easier if you simply stated a target file size for a given duration here. For instance, lets say you want an iPod file targeted at 3 MBs/min or 9 MBs for your 3 minute file. This would require you to limit your audio plus video data rate to an average of approximately 384 Kbps. Since this is roughly half the data rate recommended for a 320 x 240 "Baseline" profile H.264/AAC iPod/Podcast file, your would have to use alternaive compression settings to the "iPod" preset. If I assume you wish to use QT Pro as your current workflow would suggest, then the obvious solution would be to use the "Movie to MPEG-4" export option since the lowest available "auto-adaptive Movie to iPod" option would be twice this figure.
QT Pro Export option: MPEG-4
File Format: MP4
Video Tab Settings:
Video Format: H.264
Data Rate: 320 Kbps
Image Size: 320 QVGA (for 4:3 aspect ratio) or as appropriate for other aspects at 320 pixel width
Frame Rate: Current
Key Frame: Automatic
Video Options: Baseline/Faster Encode
Audio Tab Setttings:
Audio Format: AAC-LC (Music)
Data Rate: 64 Kbps
Channels: Mono or Stereo
Output Sample Rate: 44.1 KHz
Encoding quality: Better
Streaming Settings:
Enable streaming box: Unchecked
One the other hand, if all you want to do is half your current output file size, then:
open your DV file in the QT Player
open the "Show Movie Properties" window
select the video track
select the "Visual Settings" tab
turn Preserve Aspect Ratio off if needed
enter 320 x 240 or other 320 width aspect ratio "Scaled Size" settings
and convert using the "Movie to iPod" export option
This series of steps forces the "auto-adaptive" function to export as an H.264/AAC "Baseline" profile with video data rate limited to less than 768 Kbps and a 128 Kbps/44.1 KHz stereo audio track or roughly half the file size of your current "Baseline Low Complexity" profile. Both of these possibilities, of course, assume you would be satisfied with the reduced display size (320 x 240 QVGA) iPod compatible/Podcast file format and the quality produced in the 3 MBs/min to 6 MBs/min range covered by these two suggestions.
P.S.,
Is there any particular reason you are not exporting directly from FCE to your iPod/Podcast target file?

  • I have 3  h.264 files which i want to create a dvd movie with?

    hi guys
    i hope you can help.
    i have 3 seperate h.264 files (video has been graded and colour corrected) which i want to put on a dvd as one seamless movie.
    my friend did the exporting and had to do it in smaller chunks because it kept crashing his computer., the format he used was h.264, now its very important that i can create a dvd movie with these files to be viewed on a standalone dvd player..
    how would do i this? most efficient method and preserve  good quality?

    One thing to be aware of is when you burn a disk image in Encore, you'll end up with a .iso disk image file.  In the past I made the mistake of dragging the .iso file into the  dvd-r folder and burning it from finder.   This made it so it burned as a data DVD that didn't play on my DVD player.  In order to make playable copies of the DVD using the disc image you have to use the apple Disk Utility application located in utilities to burn a playable DVD.  Do this...
    Open Disk Utility located in / Applications / Utilities /  Disk Utility.
    Click Burn in  the tool bar at the top of the window and select your Adobe Encore disc image (.iso).
          3.  Select the Appropriate DVD burning drive and insert your blank disc. Make sure your disc is free of dust and fingerprints before burning to reduce the probability of failure.
         4. Click Burn to create your DVD disc.
         5. Remember to test your disc in several DVD players if possible before burning additional copies.

  • Movies not playing on Ipod Touch

    I purchased a movie directly from the Ipod. The download was successful but every time I try to watch the movie it says "This movie cannot be played" this is the first time I ever tried to watch a movie on it. Please help!

    i downloaded a tv episode yesterday (it was free, only reason i did it - normally they're way too expensive & i'd rather buy the dvd instead)
    this happened, it wouldn't play until i'd synced it and reloaded the tv ep onto my ipod.

  • Exported movie cannot play on iPod with video

    I exported my slide show to 320x240 .mov file (containing a fairplay AAC track from iTunes). I then dragged it into iTunes and it loads successfully onto my iPod with video. The movie shows up in iPod's menu but when I go to play it, I get a black screen for about 10 sec. (length of movie= 5min38sec) and movie ends.
    This file plays fine in iTunes6.0.1 and QT7.0.3. I try to export the movie from QT to iPod format but Export is disabled with that movie probably due to fairplay limitations.

    Hi anthony,
    You will probably get better answers in the iPod Video discussions, but here are two Apple links to help you out.

  • Anybody who wants to create a  small and simple Script for me?

    Hi,
    I am kind of new to Mac and totally AppleScript illiterate, but maybe there is a kind soul amongst all of you that can create an "easy" script for me?
    Well, here it goes:
    Every time I boot up my iMac, two things happen, the first is that I programed the "System Preferences" window to open automatically and display the "Energy Saver" section on the "Sleep" sub-section, so far so good and the second thing is that no matter what I have tried to avoid it, the "Customize" window for a program named "Butler" opens also.
    Now for the request:
    I would like the "System Preference window which displays the Energy Saver section" to change from "Sleep" to "Options" and while being there(in options), to tick(select) AND UN-tick(Un-select) immediately after the "Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" Option.
    After doing all of this, the window should be closed.
    Now, is it possible to create a Script that performs all of the above and besides closes the "Butler" window afterwards?
    I know I am asking too much, but I know too that maybe there is someone with a heart of gold and the sufficient knowledge to help me.
    Thanks a lot

    From your initial post, it appears that you have the Butler application running and have used it to access one of the Energy Saver opptions already. I don't have that particular application or a laptop to test, but if you've gotten it to access one option it should be able to access another one.

  • I want to shuffle my streaming movies to play one after the other.

    How to do this?

    I returned the 160GB Apple TV to the dealer for a full refund ($367). The happend to have a iMac G4 80GB HD, seven hundred something RAM "Lampshade". Bought it for $350. Gave it to my wife. Taking her TiBook G4 to feed the TV.

  • Getting videos and movies to play on iPod

    I have many videos and movies, mostly mpeg.
    I have been waiting 4 hours, since I clicked export save movie for iPod play? This is taking 4ever!
    I upgraded to the QT Pro to accomplish this task, and the progess window now shows 28% At this rate it will take me years to save the videos I have - for iPod play!
    Any way to speed up? I can only imagine how long it will take a full length movie???

    Eddy:
    QT Pro is incredibly, incredibly slow - BUT the results are gorgeous and you don't have to fiddle with settings.
    If you value speed over image quality, then you will need to download Handbreak.
    Before you do, you will need to read the iPod DVD Ripping Guide, which explains the process.
    If you want to rip the DVDs you own to your harddrive, get MacTheRipper. Doing so speeds up the process of converting to an iPod-compatible format.

  • MP4 movies not playing on iPod with version 1.3

    I have iTunes version 7.6.1.9 and iPod firmware version 1.3. I have several movies converted to MP4 format via Nero which played on the iPod just fine up until about 10 days ago. Now the MP4 movies will no longer play on the iPod, i just get a blank screen. The one movie I did convert using Handbrake to M4V format does still play on the iPod. Also I downloaded an MP4 movie from ipodarchive.com and it plays fine on iPod. All movies in all formats play fine in iTunes.
    Does anyone know if there is something in one of the firmware updates which prevents the playing of MP4's converted by certain programs?
    Thanks

    I found the same problem. It's not all mp4's, though; some of mine work perfectly. I think higher quality videos don't work, for some reason. Movies at 159 kbps and 640x480 don't work, though they used to. Movies at 79 kbps and 480x352 still work fine.
    Have you found any fixes/workarounds?

  • After updating to the latest iTunes, NONE of the movies will play on iPod

    I purchased Night at the Museum Battle for the Smithsonian, and it included a digital copy, which allows for legally downloading to an iPod. I received a message that I could not put it on my iPod unless I had the latest version of iTunes.
    I do not sync my iPod, I always move my files manually; I don't know if this could have anything to do with the problem. However, the movies I had on my iPod that worked previously now do not work. I can see a small graphic in the upper left corner, the title of the movie and hear the soundtrack, but that's it.

    I've figured it out for myself; after upgrading, I can no longer have the TV OUT to the ON setting. I did a little hunting on the internet to get the answer.

  • What movie formats play on ipod touch

    I just tried synching my iPod with my Mac, three short (10-12 min each) movies in *.mov format. iPod says it won't synch them because it can't play them. Doesn't tell me what it can play though.
    Don't you hate it when a program goes all coy on you?

    Oops, not so fast.
    HandBrake did change formats, but when I try to load them onto my iPod, I get the same error message: [paraphrase] will not load because the format is one this iPod cannot play.
    So I guess my question stands.
    If there are presets for formats for iPod . . . I failed to see and/or take advantage of them, I fear. Will take another look, of course.

  • How do you make a movie clip play in CS4

    Hello, I used Flash MX a long time ago (beginner level) then
    left it for years. I'm now using CS4 and am stuck. I have a stage
    with a movie clip placed onto it. I want to create a simple 'click
    to play' button so that the movie clip only plays on click of this
    button. Can someone please give me a step by step (idiot-proof)
    guide on how to do this please

    Cases that use to be _property in AS2 are now just property
    in AS3. So _x is x, _y is y, and _visible is visible. This should
    work:
    function showPlay(event:MouseEvent):void
    play_text.visible = true;
    pause_text.visible = false;

  • Create a small data base stored in a file

    I want to create a small data base of about 10 to 20 items. Each item will have an item number, serial number, time stamp and description. I want to store these 10 items in a file and be able to retrieve them by item number. How can I do this with LabView?

    For something this small, use a single VI to manage it in memory:
    It has a FUNCTION input, an enum with values of (INIT, READ FILE, WRITE FILE, ADD ITEM, FIND ITEM).
    It has a CLUSTER input, which is your record type {Item number, serial number, time stamp, description}
    It has a CLUSTER output, of the same type.
    It has an ITEM NUMBER input, which is an integer (assuming your item number is truly a number).
    The code is a WHILE loop with the CONTINUE input wired to FALSE (it never loops).
    Inside the WHILE LOOP is a CASE statement, with the selector wired to the FUNCTION control.
    For case INIT, make an empty array of records (your cluster type) and feed it to a shift register on the WHILE loop.
    For case WRITE FILE, take the shift regis
    ter input and CREATE, WRITE, and CLOSE a file. (pass it thru to the output as well). Wire the cluster to the DATALOG TYPE of the CREATE FILE function to create a datalog file.
    For case READ FILE, use OPEN FILE, READ FILE, and CLOSE FILE functions, with DATALOG TYPE wired to the cluster type.
    For case ADD ITEM, just append the new item (input cluster control) to the array from the shift reg and put the array back in the shift reg.
    For case FIND ITEM, just search thru the array (from the shift reg) until you find the matching item number, then return the whole record in the output.
    You'll have to pass the left shift reg thru the case to the right shift reg in all cases except INIT, READ FILE, and ADD ITEM.
    This means the actual storage is in the shift reg, for max efficiency.
    If you get beyound a hundred items, I would suggest a different FIND ITEM technique (keep a separate list for ITEM NUMBERS and search that, rather than the whole thing).
    This assumes you ha
    ve control of shutdown - any changes you make are lost unless you call WRITE FILE afterwards.

  • Create a small list from a bigger list, on some criteria

    I have a list of java objects, i want to create small list on some criteria for some calculation, so i dont have to loop through all the big list, but create a small list,
    what is the best way to do so, i can loop through the big list and then add objects that match the criteria to another list, but is there any other way, like using comparator or some thing any ideas
    here is some code for reference
    public class Mybean {
    private id ;
    private name;
    private lastname;
    //getters and setters
    }This is the big list, which may have 1000 objects, and then i want to create a small list where id = 123, then do some calculation,
    what is the best way, i am using this loop to create it
    for(Mybean mybean: biglist){
    if(mybean.getId = 123){
    smallListId.add(mybean);
    }

    If you're going to do this a lot, I'd suggest writing something like:
    class Filter<T> {
      List<T> filter(Match<T> matcher, List<T> inputToBeFiltered);
      interface Match<T> {
        public boolean matches(T);
    }
