Want to decrease file size

My pictures might be 400-500 KB and I want to shrink them to only 20-50 KB. I use them as images only 1.5 inches square in documents. Is there an easy way to do this- so I can drag an drop to a word doc.

Usually you can resize the pic in Word. Otherwise: select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue you have the option to change the dimensions and file size.

  • Any way to decrease file size of imported AVCHD clips?

Since I got my AVCHD camera I've pretty much eaten up all the space on my HD because of the way iMovie converts the files to a format that takes up like 15 times more space.
I do have some of my lesser-used footage on an external HD, but my Time Machine backup is also starting to get full and I need to find a solution for the clips that I don't want to erase, but don't need to store in the full HD format. Is there any way to compress or otherwise decrease the file size of an imported clip? I always import in the highest quality possible to evaluate, and then choose clips I only want to keep in a lower resolution.
    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Your AVCHD files are highly compressed. During import to iMovie they must be expanded to an editable format (AIC) which increases the file size.
The only way to "compress" these files is an export. An export from iMovie would "render" any effects, transitions or text making these items un-editable in the future. You could export your "raw" footage but this could also lead to problems in future imports.
Newer external drives could be partitioned for use with iMovie storage and your Time Machine files. You can also probably connect your current external giving you even more storage.

  • Any maintenance work needed to decrease file size / speed up initialization

As we find that the initialization performance of the dashboard is not good, my teammate tried to cut down some data and formula in the Xcelsius file
She keep track on the file size and found that the file size is not decreased even she removed a lot of contents. I'm thinking if there is any tools or function for to re-index or recompile the XLF file?
Besides, any good tips to speed up initiation performance is highly appreciable!
Note: we are working very hard in reducing the using of sumif, countif, vlookup and hlookup already but these cannot be totally avoided based on our requirements~

    Hallo Allan,
As you already mentioned, the loading performance of the swf-file mainly depends on the amount of data included into the spreadsheet and the number and complexity of the excel-formulas you used.
Also the number of the components placed on the the dashboard has an influence on the performance.
To speed up the initialization the first approach would be to reduce the embedded data  and formulas.
This can be achieved through dynamically loading the data at runtime via a data connection.
Another approach is to split the dashboard into several XLF-/SWF-Files which are also dynamically loaded on demand at runtime.
This can be achieved via the slide-show or swf-loader component in Xcelsius.
The last, but not recommended, approach is to embedded the swf into a html-file and to do some calculations and navigation-logic in java-script via the external interface connection (EIC).

  • Decreasing file size with QT?

I was tasked with recording a webinar for work, which I did using Screenium (it can't record audio from GoToMeeting) and WireTap. In Screenium I recorded the video using AIC (there are all of the other QT video choices as well), and in WireTap I used AAC Medium quality). I then synchronized and merged the audio and video together in iMovie, and then Exported as an AIC video. This produced a whooping 9.21GB file! Ouch, especially considering the video from Screenium was only 5.25GB for an hours recording.
Anyway, I'm certainly no video expert, and barely know what I'm doing. I'd like to decrease the video file size, and keep as much quality as I can. I've tried using h.264 with some other video stuff that I've done in the past, and I don't like it. I see lots of artifacts and noise in the video, as well as the color being off, and generally getting a flat looking video compared to the original. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

AIC is primarily used as an editing codec--not for final file distribution. Use a more efficient codec or one which allows you to control the data rate.

In general, H.264 is the most efficient, most scalable option. The fact that you mention artifacts and noise suggests you may be using too low a data rate target for the particular source content. You could try increasing the video data rate and see if this clears up the export problems. Alternatively, you could try either MJPEG or Photo JPEG video export options using the "Quality" slider to adjust the relative video data rate/file size.

  • A column in a table has physical file path (I want to get file size of those docs from the OS)

    Experts!!
I have a table that holds the physical file path of files in one of its columns. It does not give a link, just the physical file path.
For example,---- C:\bu\test.pdf   and let us say the file size is kb according to the OS.
Is there any way I can obtain the file size of the files from the physical path?
for example, the file size of the test.pdf file in the example here using t-SQL?
    Much Appreciation

Hey there... thanks for the response......I found the following as a solution for my problem. But my problem is the SP created using the method needs a directory as a parameter. How can I pass the directory from a table that holds my directory?
    EXEC  [dbo].[GetListOfFileWithSize](@Dir)
How do I pass the directory from my table?

  • Making a 60 min vid for a 60" HDTV and want to keep file size 8 gig

hello!  i'm so new at PP, so please bear with me.  i'm using an assortment of swf's, mp4's and youtube vid's to make a 60 minute promotional show that will play on a 60" HDTV.  my problem is, when i export it, it will be way too large to efficiently move around (thumb drives, etc.).  what are the best export settings to make it still look good on this monitor, yet keep the size smaller without losing quality...thanks for this help!!

Resolution is irrelevant for filesize and the screen size on which it is displayed is equally irrelevant. However, having said that, the minimum resolution for a 60" screen is at least 1920 x 1080.
The only thing that matters for file size is number of frames in the time line and bitrate per frame.
ffff x bbbb = filesize. (number of frames x bitrate) determines filesize.

  • Decreasing file size on .wmv files

I have a Premiere Pro project that consists of an audio file that is 8 MB and about 12 JPEGs which total around 5 MB. When I export to a .wmv, using the Windows Media format and the NTSC Source to Download 512kbps preset, the file size ends up being about 100 MB.
I created files in Elements that had the same size of content, where the wmv file was less than half the size the I'm getting out of Premiere Pro. I'm guessing it's just my lack of understanding of the software?
What I need to do is create a video that is usable by a large audience (which is why I chose wmv, but I'm not set on that format) and is smaller than I'm currently creating (preferably around 50 MBs).
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Darren

Stanley - thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly how to answer the question. Maybe if I give a more detailed account of my project, it will help.
I recorded an MP3 via a microphone through Audacity. I made the Audacity project, then chose "Export as MP3".
I then took a Powerpoint I had previously created, and did a "Save as" and chose JPEG as the file type. This saved each slide as a JPEG (about 12 total slides).
I first imported the audio file into Premiere and then imported the 12 slides.
As I listened to the audio, I lined up the length of each powerpoint slide with the audio portion pertaining to it. At the end, I had the combined visuals lasting the length of the audio, with each slide showing as long was appropriate.
Then in Premiere, I clicked on the Timeline window, then selected File>Export>Media...
In the Export Settings window, I have the following setting (on the right half of the window):
    Format: Windows Media
Preset: NTSC Source to Download 512kbps
Comments: NTSC Source to Download 512kbps
And then of course the Output name, and the boxes for Export video and export audio are checked.
At the bottom of the Export Settings Window, it says Estimated File Size: 246 MB.
The file ends up being about 100MB.
I hope that helps, and that it isn't too much information. Again, thanks for the quick response.

  • Adjusting quality of JPG to decrease file size?

I see there is a way to resize images with the crop tool, however, is there also a way to adjust the quality of a .jpg like you can in Photoshop to reduce the file size even more?
    Thanks.

As Terenced mentioned you us the File->Export->File Export menu option where you can change the pixel dimensions as well as the jpg compression (quality) for the new file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Phone automatically decreases file size in message

I have a Samsung Intensity and whenever I try sending a picture either to my e-mail or to the Pix Place, the phone automatically decreases the picture size. When I look in my phone under file info, it will say the picture is like 350KB in size, but whenever I send the picture, it automatically decreases to 60KB no matter what I try. Is there anyway to get the original size picture onto my computer from my phone? I tried searching but there hasn't been a straight answer on why this is. Thanks.

Wouldn't the quality then be not as good? Taking a 60KB photo and enlarging it to 500KB again like the original would make it look horrible, wouldn't it? Sorry, Im not around my personal computer right now so I cant try it but I was under the assumption that it wasn't the original file being sent, just a thumbnail so therefore it wouldn't be the same quality/resolution.

  • How to decrease PDF file size without losing quality of images and vector lines?

I have several ai files that I saved as PDFs. Now I'm having problem with the size of this combine files. Can some one assist me with the proper way on decreasing file size without losing quality.
    Thank you.

I am having the same problem with a different file that's in a different format mentioned above. I'm trying to convert a ".srf" file and turn it into a ".pdf." I was successful doing this but my image, once in a .pdf was also pixilated.
I thought if I convert my ".srf" file to a ".jpeg" first, then bring this newly created ".jpeg" into a ".pdf," I would have more luck. But unfortunately the free download I got on my computer that's supposed to convert any file to any file, CANNOT convert ".srf" files to ANYTHING!
Does anyone have any ideas? Or any specific programs I should get?
    Thanks!

Can anyone explain what the 'other' storage consists of and how I can decrease the size please?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
"Other" refers to OS X files, caches, downloads, documents. See Other in this website > http://pondini.org/OSX/LionStorage.html
I would not worry about Other because they contain files that you need, but if you want to decrease the size, start deleting downloads and documents

  • Linked Smart Objects - File Size Question

    Hey guys,
first time using linked smart objects and I was pretty excited about it at first. I have a large photoshop file with 1920x1080 image assets. The file size is about 1GB and everytime I make a minor change the entire file has to be re-uploaded to my Dropbox.
So I figured that I could make all these image assets linked smart objects so that I can keep the master file down in file size since most of the actual assets don't change. However, even the PSD that contains nothing by linked smart layer objects is already 400MB large. And that's in addition to the external PSD's it is now linking to.
Even if I duplicate a linked smart layer object in this PSD file it increased the file size by an additional 10MB per duplicate. Is this supposed to happen? Why does it take so much space to just link to external objects? I was super excited about using linked smart layer objects but this doesn't look like it would be helping much to decrease file size.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Philipp

    Hey Chris,
thanks again! I guess I just had different expectations. In my mind I was going to see a parent file around 10MB or something with all of the content being dynamically loaded from the linked smart objects.
Maybe that could be a feature requests for future versions.

  • How to reduce folio file size

This is a quote from the Adobe support pages:
Default Image Format Choose a default option for the folio. Individual articles can have different Image Format settings. Choose Automatic if you want to let InDesign determine whether to export the pages as JPEG, PNG, or PDF. If you want to reduce file size at the possible expense of image fidelity and performance, choose JPEG or PDF. Choosing PDF lets users zoom in on pages that do not have interactive content.
Our app is now 825mb and I am looking for ways to shrink it. We have used auto settings (presumably this means JPEG) at High. Our intention was to remake all the folios using PDF* to enable pinch/zoom (on pages that have no interactivity) but there is no way of telling what effect this will have on the file size since the PDF option offers no control over image quality.
Can Adobe please clarify these settings.
      * We would have done this from the outset but for the fact that there is no desktop preview for this option.

    Thanks Ali
Syncing audio to slide shows difficult, I have tried it. We do have quite a bit of video but also a lot of large stills and these are the ones that I am concerned about if rendering as PDF since there are no controls for altering the image quality within PDF folios. I am wondering what setting actually is actually used?

  • Reduce file size with action wizard

    (German version below)
    Hey,
I got two questions for action wizard in Acrobat XI Pro.
I try to reduze file size of many PDFs using acion wizard. My tests worked fine but now I got some problems I try to explain now:
    1. I add a directory with many subdirectorys to my process list. Adobe now adds not only PDFs to my list, it also adds JPGs, DOCs etc. That means I have to delete every single file I not want to convert to PDF cause I only want to reduce file size of excisting PDFs. Is there any possibility to only add PDFs in my processing list?
    2. If a PDF is opend by any other user I get a information about it. This info I need to acknowledge every time it pops up cause my process interrups. Is there any possibility to ignore this info?
I´m happy for any help i can get here. Thx.

    Hallo Leute,

For starters, let's refer to your original post: "this is indeed a serious problem and step back in functionality..."  This statement is a quite ridiculous assertion, unnecessarily dramatic, wholly inaccurate, and unhelpful.  Your statement "is this a joke" and "I know Acrobat tends to choke...etc..." is just pure gibberish and polemical.   It is quite easy to feed any application enough data to cause a performance failure, but one would really need to question one's motive and prudent use of one's time at this point - unless you are tasked with stress and load testing the software to determine minimum working requirements.
'Batch Processing' is, since Acrobat 9.x, dead and gone, Acrobat 11's approach is to aggregate many hitherto unavailable tools and commands and allow the user to create custom workflows.  More interactivity has been built into the process, which may or may not be desirable in each case depending on the workflow context and requirements.  But we have obviously moved away from the concept of processing a large number of files and towards a more targeted and effective processing of smaller sets of files.  The default Actions we deliver with Acrobat 11 reflect this intention.
The feature "Batch Processing", which was an Acrobat feature from A5 (I believe) up to A9, previously had been hidden in Menu/Advanced/Document Processing/Batch Processing has been wholly replaced by a completely overhauled framework called Actions, now part of the Tools panel, and will be immediately accessible when Tools is called in the UI.
Thus the obscured Batch Processing may have been a tool considered and used by an extremely small set of users to do exactly that, i.e., batch process a large number of files, but had been fairly inflexible, generally speaking, and buggy.  We were very well aware that if we were to overhaul the feature, add a considerably larger number of available tools and commands in Acrobat, provide wide possibilities for customization built towards specific workflows, and bring it to the forefront, we were going to sacrifice some of the aspects of batch processing a large number of files.  Not calling it "Batch Processing" anymore - because it isn't - may be an indication of this intention.
Personally I have used and tested Batch Processing periodically during various Acrobat projects, but I don't remember encountering the "Reduce File Size" command - which is a subset of Save and file optimization -  to use within a batch sequence.  I may be wrong, and your screen shots would be welcome here.  In fact go ahead and construct a batch sequence that (1) uses 'Reduce File Size and (2) applies file type filters to it, and post it either here or to me privately.  I would be happy to be wrong.  But regardless, we are grateful for positive input that points out defects, allows us to improve the functionality of the product, providing the intended changes are reasonable, and that the communication of said issues remain respectful of this process and of the individuals we depend upon to implement these changes.  The tone of your response comes very close to rendering a proper consideration of this issue irrelevant.
