Want to delete tonnes of old songs.

I want to delete loads of old songs and I have started to delete the real files in C: not in itunes. This process is made slow because once i delete them from there i have to delete them from itunes as well. Is there a way to "refresh" your library so itunes recognizes that you have deleted lots of songs?
Im also not on the latest update of itunes, Im on the one before it because updates are so dreadful for itunes and they just glitch out so the only way to update is to uninstall and reinstall.

Download and install iTunes Folder Watch. Point it at your iTunes Media folder and enable the option to *Check for dead tracks on startup*. This should let you rapidly clean all the dead entries from iTunes.

  • I want to delete more than one song at a time from iTunes

Or Command click on the songs if they are not consecutive on the list.

  • Want to delete more than one song at a time

I need to download the new ios 8.1.1 but don't have enough memory on my ipad. I would like to delete the songs on my ipad (school issued) without deleting songs in the cloud. I would also like to delete more than one song at a time. How can I do this?

If by "in the cloud" you mean iTunes purchased tracks, deleting them from the device will not impact that. You will be able to redownload them later. To clear all tracks from the Music app: Settings app > General > Usage > Manage Storage [under STORAGE] > Music > All songs [swipe to the left] > Delete

  • TC is full. I want to delete backup from old computer.

My Time Capsule is filling up. I have backups from 3 computers on the TC, but only need to backup 2 now. How can I delete the un-needed backup to free space for other files? I want to store my iTunes media on the TC.

You'll need to delete the sparse bundle for the Mac you don't need to back up anymore.  See To delete all the backups for one Mac in #Q5 of  Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
I want to store my iTunes media on the TC.
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data on the TC's internal HD will cause problems, some soon, some later.  See #Q3 in the link above for an explanation and some workarounds.

  • I only want to delete from itunes not ipod

I have an I pod nano. I still new. And my dad has told me that music takes up space, so I want to delete easy to get songs, but in order to delete them, from itunes, they will delete from the ipod, which I don't want. So some one plz help.

If you want to delete songs from iTunes but keep them on the iPod then change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists". Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod, you can amend the option there: Managing Your Songs Manually
One major word of caution. If you delete songs from your PC and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up songs you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

Import the music on the external HD into iTunes.  If you don't want iTunes to make a new copy of each track that is stored in your iTunes Media folder on your PC's internal HD, make sure the Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library option is NOT ticked from under the Advanced tab of iTunes Preferences.  Just remember that if you go this route, you'll always need to have your external HD plugged in before you start up iTunes.

I am rebuilding my iTunes library, but still have all the old content on my iPod Classic.  I have just download some songs from the iStore and want to add them to the iPod, BUT when I try to sync it asks if I want to delete all content from the iPod and add only the material that I have just downloaded from the Store.  I do not want to lose my old content, because it is very extensive.

You are trying to sync to other than the one iTunes library you can sync to. You can copy music from multiple library/computer if you use the manual method of syncing. That method is described here
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
If you want to make this computer/iTunes library your syncing computer/library you have to restore the iPod on this computer/library. Restoring erases the iPod.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
To copy other music to the computer see:

  • I have many very old songs on my PC and want to move them to my new IPOD Nano 7th. How do I do this?

I want to put all of my real old songs in my PC library onto my new IPOD Nano 7th generation.  How do I do this?

Import them into an iTunes library if needed, and then sync the iPod with that library.

  • Can you keep extra songs on your iPod that are not in your iTunes library, and not lose these songs every time you want to delete something from your iPod in the future?

I have all these songs that I want to store on my iPod but not on my computer, and I know that by choosing to manually manage my music I can still hang on to these songs when I add new songs to my iPod.  However, what if I want to delete songs off of my iPod in the future?  Will I lose all of the extra music that is on my iPod but not my computer, due to the fact that the only way to delete songs seems to be by syncing?

The answer to the question in the title of the thread is yes, but it is not necessarily a good idea. At some point you are likely to find you need to restore your iPod for one reason or another, or it could be lost, stolen or damaged. If your songs aren't on your computer, and backed up too, then you will be less than happy.
