Want to direct iphoto back to original data

I have my photo library on an external hard drive. Photos from camera were downloaded when external had been unplugged. iphoto created a new folder with the same name as the original and loaded the new downloaded pics into it. When opening iphoto, i get the new pics with over 8000 ghost pics, frames with titles but no pics. I found new folder, copied pics and threw folder away, but am afraid to empty trash. I need to know if I can somehow redirect the app. to go to the old folder where all the pics are. Any suggestions? I have had to rebuild in the past and did not get any movies as they all transfered as pics. Am using 5.0.4

Its been a long time since iPhoto5 - for later versions(and I think 5) you depress the option (alt) key and launch iPhoto to select the location of the library - when in iPhoto you can see exactly where your photos are by right clicking (control clicking) and a photo in the iPhoto library window and selecting the show file command

What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • Transferring images out of iPhoto but keeping original date

I'm currently backing up all my images from iPhoto 4 onto CD (and elsewhere). When I transfer them the copy has todays date rather than the date they were originally created. Is there anyway to transferring them to back up and keep creation date so I retain the timeline.
    thanks in advance

    Hello -
I recently backed up my photo archive from my old G4 desktop to an external hard drive, then imported everything into iPhoto on my new MacBookPro. A number of photos are now categorized with 'original date' as 2007, though I know they are from a trip in 2006.
Is there any way to change this original date to the correct date, or otherwise weed them out of the calendar view under 'library', or do I simply need to distrust / ignore the annual organization and make my own 'album' and/or folders to deal with the mislabel?
Assuming the original files are correct (I unfortunately cannot check right now), would transferring the files directly between the computers solve the problem? Is there a way to back up without corrupting the original date field?
    Thanks,
    D.G/C.A

  • Copy to Mac file Created Date uses iPhoto Modified not Original Date

When a photo is edited in iPhoto the 'Extended Photo Info' 'Modified' date field is changed to the now() date and time but the 'Original' date iPhoto remains the same.
Then when a copy is made of a photo in iPhoto and then 'Paste Item(s)' is made to the Mac desktop all the files dates default to the iPhoto 'Modified' date not the iPhoto 'Original Date'. Then if a sort by the 'Original Date' on the Mac is desired it will not happen unless the Created date file settings is changed for each photo copied to the Mac Desktop.
How can photos in iPhoto be copied to the Mac Desktop with the 'Original Date' used in the Mac file 'Created' date field?

when a copy is made of a photo in iPhoto and then 'Paste Item(s)' is made to the Mac desktop all the files dates default to the iPhoto 'Modified' date not the iPhoto 'Original Date'
Where are you seeing this date?  In the Info window for the file with the Finder?  That's to be expected because those dates are the file dates, not the EXIF photo created and modified dates which can't be view by the Finder.  You will need to use a 3rd party EXIF view like  EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X .
So don't confuse the EXIF date(s) with the file dates.

  • Is is possible to batch change photos to original date?

I'm amazed at how mixed up my photo lib is (I'd really like it to be chronological) due to edits and other mysteries. Is there a way to batch change a bunch of photos (I have 11,000 - how many should be in a "batch"?) to revert back to original date taken??? Thanks for any help! Donna

Do Not use Shootshifter on photos already in the iPhoto Library. This will rename the files and that will damage your Library. Every file renamed will be lost to iPhoto.
    Instead, try an experiment:
Export a few of the files from iPhoto and use Graphic Coverter (you can download a Free Trial) to examine them. See what it tells you is the date of the photo. This will tell us if the problem is with the pic or iPhoto.

  • Iphoto numbers vs names & date reversion

    Hello All -
Been awhile since I've checked in...
    1.  How do I enable a device (jump drive, desktop of macBook Pro, etc.) to recognize that I have changed the name of a photo so as not to be duplicative (numbers).  Have tried restarting after renaming and devices/desktop still "see" it as numbered, and ask if I want to "replace" the current photo with that same numbered photo - which is a different photo (numbers are generated automatically 983img.jpeg etc).
    thx.
    2.  Is there a reversion method to have iphoto read the original date of shot (not "modified" date), so as to arrange a proper chronology?
    thanks much!  donna

    1. A Device is managed in the Finder. The Finder is a file manager and works with file metadata. What you see on the Device is the filename. You don't rename files in iPhoto, you add titles to them. If you want you can use these titles as filenames when you export. File -> Export and check out the options at "Filename"
    2. Iphoto works from the Exif metadata written to the photo by the camera. So, I'm not sure what you mean by the modified date.

  • IPhoto 9, RAW original time vs digitized time

I recently began using iPhoto 9 and noticed that images taken in Canon RAW format have two different time stamps - Original and Digitized. The date/time labeled "Original" is not correct - it is about 6 hours earlier than the "Digitized" version, which is the correct date/time. Unfortunately, iPhoto uses the "Original" data for display. Interestingly, photos taken with a compact Canon camera in .jpg format have the same data in both date/time versions. I can see why you might want two different data fields, but anyone know why iPhoto is creating an earlier time in the "Original" field with Canon RAW images? How can I get iPhoto to recognize the "Digitized" as the correct data? The same RAW photos imported in to Adobe Lightroom 2 are labeled with the correct date/time.

OK, so I finally had some time to look into this a bit more. The images in question are Canon CR2 RAW images from a 5DmkII camera. They were originally geotagged with HoudaGeo and imported on my MacBook Pro. I've used this method quite a bit but not with iPhoto - I usually use Lightrooom but my wife wanted me to make a book so I also imported the images into iPhoto 9. Lightroom saw the time stamps correctly. In iPhoto, the "Original" times were all about 6 hours earlier - not exactly 6 hours, but 6 hours minus a random number of seconds. The "Digitized" times were correct in iPhoto. I exported one image from iPhoto and used Graphic Converter to look at the EXIF data - and the "Original" date/time fields are correct. I took the exported file and imported it into iPhoto on my MacPro, where the photos have never been imported. The time fields were correct on the MacPro. I then took the exported photo (with a new name) and re-imported it into iPhoto on my MacBook Pro, and again the time was correct. I then looked into the iPhoto package file on my Mac Book Pro (where the time is incorrect for the image)and duplicated the image and moved it to the desktop. I looked at the EXIF data and again the time is correct in the file. Finally, I looked at the original files after they were geotagged but prior to the original iPhoto import, and again the EXIF time field is correct. In all of the EXIF time fields (that I can see with Graphic Converter), I cannot see where iPhoto derives the incorrect time displayed in the "Original" field. Something must have happened during the original import to corrupt the files but I don't know what happened. It seems like I could correct this by re-importing all of the photos but the images are not part of a large book so I don't want to risk having to re-do the book. Does anyone know if I just re-import the images with the same file names, will iPhoto replace the corrupt files? Will doing so in any way affect the book containing the images? Anyone have any idea where iPhoto is deriving the incorrect time if all of the EXIF time fields have the correct time?
    Thanks

  • Backing up Schema data

We are making some data change in the database. I need to save tables data for a schema so that if we need to go back we can go back to original data. Now I know I can do export at schema level (pwner=user).
How I can do export/import so that all other objects are restored if i need to do import. Please note that the process which we will run will modify the data only. Can any one provide me sample script for ex/imp and step by step instructions on how I can execute them. Thanks

This is a simple task that you can easily figure out for yourself by just reviewing the examples in the Utilities manual for your version of Oracle.
I would just do a user export.
Then truncate the tables before running an import with the ignore=y option to reload the data.
    exp u/p file=myfile buffer= owner= log=
    -- trunc --
    imp u/p file=myfile full=y ignore=y buffer= log=

  • After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine:Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on? the WD disk has mounted??

After reformatting my 1 Tb WD ext drive and tinkering with the "exclude these items" list, I now get the following error message from Time Machine: "Are you sure you want to back up to the same device your original data is on?"  I've reformatted in Disk Utilities...not sure what I did wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by "booted" from it.
If the Mac OS is installed on the external drive, then it's possible to start up from it, just as you do from your internal drive. Please open the Startup Disk preference pane in System Preferences, and verify that your internal drive is selected as the startup disk.
Assuming that's the case, then it may be that your TM settings have been corrupted. Turn off TM, then move or delete the file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist. Turn TM back on, recreate your settings, and try again.

  • IPhoto changes the original creation date to 12/31/1969

Hi folks, this is a problem I have been trying to resolve for a very long time.
I have a large collection of pictures that I took with a Palm Zire 71 and Zire 72 going back to 2003. Every time I import the files with iPhoto (File > Import to Library), iPhoto changes the original creation dates of the jpgs to 12/31/1969. I have tried many different things... most recently I burned the files to a CD, confirmed that the original creation dates were still in tact, and tried importing with iPhoto right from the CD. I got the same result... all photos with the date 12/31/1969. All photos completely disorganized because of Palm's less than great file naming structure. I need to keep the creation dates intact for the iPhoto books I want to make with them, so changing the file names won't work as a solution. Even changing the files names to the creation dates plus a counter would be very difficult because it is over 1500 pictures. Does anyone else know of this problem and perhaps have a solution for it? Thanks!

Thank you for the suggestion TD. But the Batch doesn't help in this case because so many of the photos were created on different days. I would still have to manually go into each of the creation dates and change them back to the original.
That's just not feasible for 1500 files. iPhoto shouldn't be stripping the files of the creation dates at import to begin with. I'm hoping to find a way to get the import process to work properly for these files. The weird thing is that iPhoto doesn't seem to do this to files create on a more typical point and shoot camera,
but only on these Palm files.

  • Hi, My i photo library is not opening up. What should I do? I have version 9.1 i photo 11. I dont want to upgrade to a higher version because I havent backed up m data.

hi, My i photo library is not opening up when I click it. What should I do? I have version 9.1 i photo 11. I dont want to upgrade to a higher version because I havent backed up my data. Just need support on how to open it up.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • When I open up "originals" in my iPhoto library, the dates are not there or are incorrect.  I see date created and date modified, not the original date the picture was taken.  How can I find the accurate original dates?

I have had a lot of issues with my iPhoto program. After many trips to the Genius Bar and numerous hours with phone techs, I am now rebuilding my library, starting with a backup of it from before the corruption. When I "get info" of a picture, I notice the original date the picture was taken (most important for me), is not there or is wrong.  When I check package contents of my iPhoto library, the originals show up, but most (not all) of the dates are wrong.  Can anyone tell me how or where I might find the original dates?

I did post to the iPhoto forum and am hoping for an answer soon. I don't want to continue rebuilding my iphoto library if I can do it using originals. My library has 45,000 pictures...a huge job!

  • How I can keep the original date of a photo when I exporte it in jpeg format (using the iphoto menu) ?, How I can keep the original date of a photo when I exporte it in jpeg format (using the iphoto menu) ?

I imported photo from my iPhone 4 to t iPhoto on my MacBookPro. Then I wanted to export some of those photos as jpeg file, using the export menu of iPhoto, to put them in a folder in Finder. When I did, all the original have been lost.
I tried to copy/paste and I had the same problem.
If someone can help me, it will be great !
    Thank you

Why do you think the date has been lost? If you export the photo from iPhoto the date the photo was taken is there in the EXIF data (simple EXIF viewer will let you see it - http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/ )
My best guess is that you are confusing the file date with the photo date - they are totally different - photo programs like iPhoto use the photo date - file programs like the finder use the file date - they have no relationship to each other
