Want to download cross platform, apple too smart
this isn't a quicktime question, per se, because i haven't been able to download quicktime. my home computer is on a dial-up connection, so i download stuff at work on the T-1 to bring home. my work computer is a PC. unfortunately, the apple site is too clever for me and only offers me the windows version of quicktime (and safari). is there any way, as in the iTunes download, to switch this so that i can download mac software? iTunes at home won't work until i get this quicktime and it's driving me mad.

With CCM, the end user can install the software on either Mac or Windows. External Hard Drive won't appear on PC (want cross platform)
I have an external USB Hard Drive. I formatted it using the Disk Utility, OS Format and Journaling. Did a small partition in case I needed a system boot drive. Now my sis needed to backup her laptop (Dell laptop), but the drive won't appear in My Computer, it recognizes there is a USB device on the lower task bar, but no drive anywhere.
Do I have to reformat? what steps do I need to make this USB drive cross-platform friendly?

You may not want to reformat the drive as FAT-32 since there is a limit on the size of the partition, the maximum file size, and other issues, especially if her Dell's drive is formatted as NTFS (FAT-32 does not support NTFS extended attributes). FAT-32 is unsuitable for backing-up Mac OS X volumes as it cannot preserve the extended attributes (permissions, etc.) employed by Mac OS X.
It's really best if you each have your own external hard drive for backup, as part of implementing a comprehensive Backup and Recovery solution, such as I use and detail in my "Backup and Recovery" FAQ. You also don't want one person inadvertently writing over another person's backups, which could happen if one is not careful. Furthermore, it is often easiest for recovery.
How one handles backup in cross-platform environments is tricky and depends on the native formats employed by the different computers involved, and whether backup will be performed over a network or by directly connecting backup drives to the computers one is backing up.
To enable her Dell to use the Mac-formatted drive, install Mediafour's MacDrive for Windows on the PC. MacDrive for Windows is probably the state-of-the-art application for enabling you to use Mac-formatted disks and hard drives on Windows-based PCs.

I don't want to download OSX Mountain Lion everytime I want to install it, that is just friggin ridiculous! not everyone has mega bandwidth flowing freely into their homes!!!!!! Surely it is possible to just download the DMG and burn to a DVD so I load it on each computer like with Lion!????

My frustration is just with the fact that Apple have become so arrogant as they have grown and have stopped considering their customers like they used too. When releasing new products they make changes like this that provide no benifit at all and they dont think about how it will affect their whole user base.
Bottom line is that I shouldnt have to resort to a forum and then follow a process to create a bootable disk for Mac OSX when I could do it with the last version with no problems......another example is the removal of the YouTube apps from iphone and ipad just because its owned by Google....its pathetic!
Anyway sorry to go on about it........for others looking for a solution to this problem, this link provides a good, simple process to allow you to create a boot disk for Mountain Lion. -

If it were too old, the App Store wouldn't download it.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

I have an apple iphone 4 that I want to download audio books from my library onto. I cannot figure out how to do that. The iphone does not show up on my mac laptop as a connected device. Does this kind of download have to run through itunes? Thanks
Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. why when i want to download a free app from app store it asks for my apple id and when i give my apple id it then says "this apple id has not yet been used in the itunes store". i dont even know what that means and it will this happen everytime?
If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

I have a new powerbook and want to give my girlfriend my old G4 power book, she has a new iphone 5s, and wants to create a new itunes/apple id. When i try to de authorize the G4 and sign in with her new apple ID it says bad password, how can i release the G4 from my cluster of authorized apples and make her the owner so she can download music and more importantly sync her music with her phone, she only has 3 songs on her iphone, and loaded all her CD's into the g4 but cant sync, im no dummy and this shouldnt be hard, but its driving me crazy!!!!!!

I just downloaded Firefox 5.0.1, and one of the themes I want to download and try out says that it works with Firefox 4.0b9pre - 7.0a1. At the top, though, it says that the theme is not available for my platform. It has happened with some other themes as well, but I didn't check what versions they work with. I have an Apple ID which I had registered years back.I wanted to use the same Apple ID to download apps on my ipod touch - but whenever I try to login with that Apple ID, it tells me "This ID hasn't been used with Itunes", and proceeds to let me "Review" it. In the last step, I'm asked to furnish credit card information, which I don't want to, since all I want to do is to be able to download free apps !!
Could the credit card be expired?
Beyond that, what you need to do is contact iTunes support, they can tell you exactly what is wrong, none of us here can do that.

Update it from the original Apple ID or delete and redownload the applications when signed into another one; the second option may require repurchasing them.

My iPod touch shows up as a apple iPod camera but if i dont want to download the pics and press cancel it all dissappears. my ipod has been lost for 3 months and has not got the latest upgrade.
