Want to edit iPhoto images in Photoshop 5.1

I'm using iPhoto '11 (9.2.1).
Updated from Photoshop in CS3 to CS5.1.
I want iPhoto to open images in Photoshop CS5.1, so I went to iPhoto - Preferences - Advanced - Edit Photos: and it only gives me two choices. One is iPhoto, the other is my old choice, Photoshop CS3.
No matter what I try, I cannot get it to show me "In Application," so I can manually choose Photoshop CS5.1.
Can anybody help me with this?
Thanks in advance!

Choose CS3 again and the window to select your preferred version will open

  • Why is Photoshop CS6 not an option for editing iPhoto image?

I've read everywhere that to edit iPhoto pictures in Photoshop CS6, I need to select it as the application to used to edit the image.  However, I don't have that as an option, only Preview.  And yes, I do have Photoshop installed, I use it every day.  Any ideas on how to get it to where Photoshop is the visual editor?  Frustrating.  Thanks.

You already have selected preview as your external editor - to change it select it again and then select the new external editor

  • Lightroom 5.4 jumps to second monitor when attempting to edit an image in Photoshop CS 6.

    Hello,
I have a brand-new HP z620 with an Nvidia Quadro K 4000 display adapter and apparently a software and/or hardware conflict.
I am experiencing an issue with Lightroom 5.4 window not working correctly with my second, not primary, monitor. When Lightroom is working on the second monitor and I need to edit an image in Photoshop cs6, I want Lightroom stay where it is and Photoshop to open on my primary monitor. And this has worked well for me on my previous system which was also a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 570.
When I click the Lightroom option to "edit in Photoshop CS 6” The Lightroom window will move itself to the primary monitor for no apparent reason. This is the problem I am seeking to remedy.
No other external editing programs opened through LR behaves this way, such as NIK or OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, and I really need LR to stay on the second monitor on the extended desktop.
I’ve tried every monitor cabling setup I could think of to try and even unplugging the primary to make windows identify it as the 2 monitor in the screen resolution settings, but that does nothing for me. My new workstation is running the same OS version and a K4000. Monitors are currently connected to the display ports via dp to dvi adapters. I’ve already tried moving the connections around and plugging one into dvi, there doesn’t seem to be a setting I can change within windows or adobe to change this behavior.”
On a related note, I have similar instability in software made by X-rite that supports the use of a colorimeter allowing me to build profiles for monitors and evaluate colors precisely. During the profiling process I place the colorimeter in the designated place on the secondary monitor and direct the application to begin showing the colorimeter different colors on that monitor. At this point the colors jump to the primary monitor while the rest of the interface along with the colorimeter is a secondary monitor. I have a workaround that I'm using for this particular problem but I am fairly sure that the issue that causes the problem with Lightroom is also the source of my trouble here and I need to eliminate it.
    thanks for your time,

After editing an image in Photoshop it appears grayed out inside the media browser when I try to import into Facebook (ie.).
What has to be done in order for me to be able to select my edited images from Photoshop whithin any media browser?

Would you care to comment on why there is an advantage to do this little extra job?
Perhaps you don't want to hear from me, I don't know.
I'll answer just this one little question.  Try to get your mind around what color management does, I promise it does make sense (outside of unexplained problems on particular computers).
You want to save your web image with the sRGB profile embedded because some Internet browsers are color managed, and with an embedded profile it's more likely someone will see your image colors just as you intended.
The assumption is that a lowly windows user with a cheap monitor and Internet Explorer will be seeing any image you save as "roughly" sRGB anyway.  Tagging the image with sRGB only affects those with color-managed browsers.
You're looking for the most possible consistency for the viewing audience.

  • I am unable to edit an image in Photoshop.

I just installed Lightroom 5.3, and I have Photoshop CS5.1 installed. The problem is that I am unable to edit an image in Photoshop. When I click Photo>Edit In, the option for Photoshop is not active (i.e., it's not black), so I can't click on it. Why are the options for Photoshop and all of the other Photoshop related options, such as Merge to Panorama, etc., not active? In Preferences I have the following settings: File Format = TIFF; Color Space = ProPhotoRGB; Bit Depth = 16 bits; Resolution = 240; Compression = None. I am using Windows 7.

    Chris:
I have to apologize for being misleading on my request for help in
    resolving the problem.
Actually the version I am using is CS2 not CS3.
Yesterday I tried numerous times, and ways, to edit an image and each time
it refused to allow me to save it.
The software program just shut down. This evening when I decided to give it
    another try it worked perfect.
Guess the program just took the day off.
Thank you for offering to help

    Hi Karen
You may the sort set to Custom. Click the dropdown menu on the toolbar (to the right of the word sort) and change to capture time.
If you can’t see the toolbar above the filmstrip press the T key. Press T again to hide.

  • When I want to edit a photo in photoshop, iphoto duplicates the image and I end up with two or three copies of the same photo and they are also duplicated on my computer.  This has only occurred since I installed iPhoto 11.

Ever since I installed iPhoto '11 on my computer, I have had a problem with images being duplicated when I want to open an image to edit in Photoshop.  I did not realize at first that the images were also duplicated on my computer.  This has taken up an incredible amount of space on my computer.  Why does this happen?  Is there a problem with the software?  Can I remove iPhoto and re-install?  Would that help?

saUnless you have a copy of your iPhoto 09 library you will have to start over from scratch with a new library and import the Masters file from inside iPhoto 11's library as described here:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Origianls (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.

  • Editing iPhoto photos in Photoshop CS4 and saving a copy

I'm relatively new to Mac and am trying to figure out my workflow. I like a lot of the features of iPhoto, but I'm struggling with something critical.
Typically, when I edit a jpeg in photoshop, i like to save the modified version as a copy either with a -01 suffix or I create another folder in the file's original folder named 'Revised' or something like that and save the copies in there. I don't see how I can get the iPhoto event to update to include the added file. It seems clear that it definitely won't add the folder.
I've noticed that Lightroom does the same thing. Once a folder is imported, it doesn't seem to go back and check to see if changes were made in an external program.
Perhaps it's possible to force an update, but that doesn't really solve it either, unless I'm willing to go in and update the folder/event after every edit I make is PS.
Anyone know if I'm missing something or have a recommendation on how to work more effectively?
    Thanks!

If you're not editing RAW file then the following may be of some help to you:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Opening iphoto images in photoshop

I am having trouble opening images in photoshop from iphoto. I import my photos directly to iphoto, then if i open photoshop and try to open a cetain image i cant navigate to my iphoto files (iphoto is grayed out and i cant find the images anywhere else) Is this a new issue with iLife '08? we just installed that. Can anyone help me find my photos?

To add to Terence's suggestion setting up Photoshop as the editor to use in iPhoto is done in the General preferences. Then when you double click on a thumbnail it will open in PS. When you go to save you will get one of these two options. Select the one that suits the intent of the edit and proceed.
Editing via direct access in the Finder will result in iPhoto not knowing the file has been edited and could corrupt the library.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I need help editing an image in Photoshop

I need to edit this image.
I need to reposition the fist shape a little further down remaining within the yellow circle.  Then I also need to change all blue parts to black and the yellow outline around the knuckles to white.
How would I do this in Photoshop?

Put a circular selection round the fist and press Ctrl+J.
Hide the resulting new layer and fill the circle with yellow.
Select the blue area with the magic wand and fill the selection with black.
Select the yellow round the fist and fill the selection with white.
Go to the fist layer, press Ctrl+T and move it down as far as you want, (Not much room there.)
For print, save as a TIFF; for Internet use Save for Web.

  • Edit Multiple Images in photoshop cs5

I am trying to apply the same affects thru a action to about 50 some odd photos. I don't want to go thru them individually so how do you do them all at once? Can you convert them to smart objects then apply the action? I tried this but once i want to edit them from a smart object they return to what they were before. Any suggestions?

You could use Automate>Batch or Scripts>Image Processor.

When I try to open iPhoto 8 in Photoshop CS, it is greyed out. How can I see my iPhoto pics in Photoshop? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If the edit you make has PS changing the format to psd, then you'll have two options as seen in this screenshot.

  • Editing LR image in Photoshop

This is an old problem that I had fixed in LR 4.0, but which returned when I upgraded to 4.1, and unfortunately I forgot the fix.  When I finish LR adjustments and click "Edit in Photoshop," I get no menu giving me options for how I want to export to Photoshop. As a result, the image that opens in Photoshop is the original, not the one with the Lightroom adjustments. A very bright individual told me of an easy fix by changing certain preferences in LR, but (duh) I neglected to save his instructions. Anyone know what to do?

    Thanks, Simon:
Your advice, and Jim’s, cleared the matter up.  Yes, it’s a bit annoying to have to delete the Tiff/PSD file that LR creates.  And yes, I undoubtedly could resolve that by upgrading to CS5 or later. However, more & more of my image editing is in LR these days, and CS4 has continued to be more than adequate for what remains.  I know there are some cool features in later versions, but they haven’t been sufficient to prompt me to part with the cash.  Suppose I’ll have to at some point, anyway, or I’ll get too left behind.
I’m impressed, by the way, at the improvements in LR 4 – tonal adjustments, noise reduction, sharpening, etc.  It’s a great product for those of us who don’t have the time to become experts in Photoshop.

  • New lame workaround for editing RAW images in Photoshop

Instead of re-importing, I open the image in ACR, then jump back to iPhoto and make some inconsequential and quick change (sepia, anyone?), then when saving from Photoshop, I navigate to the same roll in Modified that I came out of in Originals and save as a jpg (over the Enhance/Sepia/Edge Blur/whatever). The edit I made in iPhoto (don't forget to save in iPhoto before saving from Photoshop) tells the library to use the jpg from the Modified folder (instead of just using it temporarily while it parses the RAW file).

sorry, but I disagree. I don't think it's lame at all. The only thing I would add is that it's important to unselect "Save edited RAW files as 16 bit TIFFs", unless of course you intend to save your Photoshop (or other editor) files as TIFFs.
