Hi,
Am desperate to get broadband so I can get my games console online and not have to suffer from using my Netbook with a mobile broadband dongle. However, my mum's house phone wiring is so ancient that we don't have a main phone socket. We seem to have an old (52a?) junction box by the front door in the hallway and one in the living room (no phone in there, just an ancient 1960's/70's phone in the kitchen where you have to put your finger in a hole and move the dial thing around!).
We have a cheap upstairs bedroom phone which has a phone socket, but know this is not a main socket as it was installed over 20 years ago when my mum was giving a phone as a present and there was already wiring into the bedroom already from the previous occupant).
So, to get broadband will we need a main phone socket fitted downstairs?
Or will this secondary/extension socket be okay? (guessing it won't be from what I have tried to learn online)
I called BT last week but just got a confusing sales patter. They were advising purchasing infinity and the lady said that this would include installation of a main socket if required. Is this right? Is so it sounds like a good deal?
If they do install this how would it effect the existing phones and wiring in the house? Would they have to be ripped up and replaced? How big a job would this be?
Sorry for the length and amount of questions. My mother is very scared of any sort of change so I need to convince her of the need to get broadband while reassure her it won't be a huge hassle!
Help and advice would be much appreciated...

Sorry for being cluless, it is a minefield.
The main reason for broadband is getting my XBox 360 online (and PS4 when it comes out hopefully). I wouldn't be playing games online on a huge basis, it would mainly be for authenticating purchases online (I missed out on the Catwoman content on Batman: Arkham City and missions on Mass Effect 2 by not being online), downloading arcade titles and DLC missions for games I have bought on disc. Gaming seems to be going very online-centric, even if you only want to play single player games!
It would also be used for basic Internet use on my Netbook, I'm not interested in downloading or watching movies or TV online.
I have deduced that the microfilters with the BT HomeHub would fit the upstairs phone socket, but my concern is that this is not the main line and the seemingly main phone point is an ancient junction box it can't be connected to any filter.
Do you think the normal BT broadband package would work as things stand, with just connecting the HomeHub to the upstairs socket? Last thing I want is to go ahead and find out it doesn't work with the existing phone infrastructure aand that an engineer is required after all.

You can download the trial version (http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html) to convert the PDF back to WORD if you do not have the original. The conversion may not be perfect, but it is typically better than starting from scratch. You may be lucky and get a good result. You might check the settings (in the save screen) to try retain format versus retain text flow. The format version can be a pain to edit since it creates a bunch of text boxes. The flow version may require you to reformat in WORD, but you likely would want to do that anyway.

1. Which has the least amount of EMFs? I'm sensitive to that and have enjoyed my iPad (original) that has no EMF fields.
2. Which runs the coolest?
I want the 128 gig one. Which would fit my requirments, the 2010 with the 2 Core Duo, the 2011 I believe it is with the i5 chip, or the newest one with the i7 chip? From the reviews I have read, it sounds like the one with the i7 chip runs the hottest.
I'm sure I am missing a whole lot of information, please fill me in!

Changing the 13 inch screen resolution will unfortunately result in a less sharp display, simply because all these type of displays have an 'native' resolution which gives optimal results, leaving other settings less crisp. The 13 inch MBA panel has a native resolution of 1440x900, which is remarkable for a screen of that size (I have 17 inch widescreen monitors at work with that same resolution) but it can certainly be set at a lower figure.
The one area where the trackpad has benefits over a mouse is that you can use multi-touch gestures, just as on the iPad. That's a feature I really like, particularly being able to zoom in and out and scroll up and down, though of course other gestures are supported too. As such then it does indeed work much like the touch screen capaibilities of an iPad.
If you have a Mighty Mouse the one with the tiny scroll-ball on the top-front, then they are notorious for scrolling issues due to getting clogged up. They're not hard to clean, but the Mighty Mouse is notably inferior to the later Magic Mouse, which doesn't have a scroll-ball or wheel, but uses the whole top panel for scrolling using gestures in much the same way as a trackpad. I've found a Magic Mouse a good investment for any Bluetooth-capable Mac (which of course includes all MBA models).
[ON EDIT]: The MBA doesn't come with Flash, but it is a free download from Adobe, and is very simple to install. Just make sure you get the installer from Adobe.com and not any other location since there is some malware which masquerades as a Flash installer but is not safe to install! Beware though that Flash is very processor intensive, and if anything will run the MBA fans up to speed, and heat the system up, it is that.

I have been requesting help for this for the past HOUR. Firefox is placing ads on my screen at start-up (and they remain there) to get firefox on Android (I don't have a cell phone that uses it), and to go to the firefox site with information on how to use..........I have used firefox for years.........don't need this, and when I go there since it seems to be forced on me, read what is new, and try to close out...........it is back again when I open firefox again. If I keep getting ads from firefox, I will change to another browser!

Firefox 4+ versions use a new build-in home page named <b>about:home</b> with a Google search bar on it (no internet access needed to load that page).<br />
That about:home page only shows some snippets and has a button to restore the previous session if applicable.
If you want a home page without the Restore Previous Session button and the snippets then set another page as the home page like www.google.com used in Firefox 3 versions.
You may be seeing a similar ad on the Google site to install Google Chrome.<br />
In that case use the close X on that ad to close that pop-up and it should stay away unless local storage gets cleared.

When I reference a rawvalue of an object that does not exist I get an error. If the object does not exist i want to hid the form field. Any help with the javascript to do this

This seems a little strange, a dataGroup sounds like you are referencing an object in your data connection, not a form object. A dataGroup object represents a group element, such as a complex type in an XML Schema definition and it does not have a rawValue (with uppercase "V") property. If you are referencing this object via a resolveNode call then you will get a null result if it does not exist.

I would like to get get CC Photography membership (Ps + Lr) but have already bought Lr a while ago and have been using it for 6 months or so. It was £104 I think.
If I take out a CC Photography membership it will be as though I'm paying for Lr twice. Is there a solution for my situation? A way to get a discount on The CC membership given I've paid up front for Lr?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

Thanks for the info. Seems kind of messed up though. Why would Apple let any random user of a machine control all future upgrades of critical apps. I guess perhaps my admin password was needed at some point, which my son has. Still, seems this is something you should be able to undo.
I'm starting to get a clearer pictures of what's going on. These 3 apps are part of iLife 11 and normally cost $14.95 each. They come pre-installed on new machines, but it looks like at some point you need to associate this "purchase" with an Apple ID, and can only associate it with one Apple ID. Thus they are now irrevocably associated with my son's Apple ID.
However, if I wanted to shell out the money, it seems I should be able to tell this particular mac to forget everthing it knows about the purchase of these apps, and re-purchase them from another Apple ID. Although I doubt I'd do that at this point, if I by a 2nd Mac and properly associated these apps with my Apple ID on this 2nd mac, I should then be able to use this "purchase" to download the apps to the first mac I'm having a problem with. However, currently I can't even see a way to do this. Is there some App Store cache I can trash so App Store no longer knows which apps were installed by which Apple ID?

Create a completely separate user account for her on your computer and have her log in with that. That way your stuff won't get contaminated by hers and your data will not end up on her phone.
That said, she is almost certainly going to lose data in the process. She will need to create at least one contact in the address book on your computer before she does anything, so that when she turns on contact sync, it will not overwrite her contacts with a blank address book. Then she will need to authorize iTunes with her Apple ID and do File>Transfer Purchases to move any purchased media and apps to the iTunes on the computer. If she has any media that was not purchased on the iTunes store, it's going to be lost if she doesn't invest in 3rd party software to extract it from the phone first. Media sync is 1 way. Computer --> Phone. She will also need to extract any photos/videos from the camera roll BEFORE updating. Photos in other albums will be lost as they had to be synced to the phone from a computer to begin with. Again, 3rd party software can extract them.
There's more to it than that, but you can find complete instructions here if you search. Even with those instructions, there is a very good chance that something will be lost.
Make sure she understands that. Better yet, make it her responsibility or just tell her no, she can't do it on your computer.
Losing all of someone's data is a good way to end a friendship.

Iphone stolen and want to get backup of photos

I lost my iphone and want to get backup of my photostream (have ordered replacement but will take a few days). How do I do that since I do not have a computer (I have access to my husband's but do not have iphoto with my photostream)?

You will only be able to access photo stream photos from the last 30 days from iCloud as older photos have already been deleted. Your camera roll photos are included in your backup; restoring the backup to your replacement phone should recover them. The replacement phone will also be able to access photo stream photos from the last 30 days when you sign into your iCloud account and enable My Photo Stream.
You can access photo stream photos from a computer by setting up your account on the computer and enabling photo stream as explained here: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/. This will require Vista SP2 or higher if it's a PC, or OS X 10.7.5 or higher if it's a Mac. If you have a Mac, you will also need iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or higher in order to enable photo stream. If you do this on someone else's computer you'll need to be careful not to sync your other data to it or your data will be merged with the data on the other computer. Given this, you may want to just wait until you get your replacement phone.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

You can't do what you want with iCloud. You will need to setup remote access to your main computer with VPS or some similar remote access application. With VPS you have an application running on your main computer turning it into a server and an client app on your laptop so you can access it remotely. There are many such apps out there, some probably more feature filled than VPS. You might post in the system forum that you're running and ask there.
