Want to import avchd footage from a media card into FCE.

Trying to import avchd video from a media card into Final Cut Express. Panasonic DMC-ZS3 / FCE 4.0.1 / MBP 10.6.8. Have taken a look at the footage using a trial version of Pavtube MTS Converter.

A further comment : this is AVCHD Lite, and there are several online recommendations for software to convert files for Mac. Any suggestions??

  • Cant not upload pictures from my SD card into FCE through canon xha1s

Cant not upload pictures from my SD card into FCE through canon xha1s firewire. Is there another way? The strange part is when I originally hooked my canon up to the Imac iphoto saw the camcorder as a device and I do not what has happen since then. I just bought the camcorder and would like to take advantage of the photo capabilities as well as the video. All help would be greatly appreciated.

The card video stuff will most likely load into iPhoto when you tranfer the stills. USB connection only.
The video on the card will be a highly compressed, small dimensioned format and won't work directly with FCE and not over firewire in any shape or form.
However, you could take the clips from iPhoto and convert them to an FCE freindly format such as the DV codec. Streamclip is a free application that can do the job.

  • Capturing Footage From Composite / S-Video into FCE

I want to capture some footage from analogue sources into my Mac. It can either be via composite or S-Video but my question is : Which gizmo should I use to convert the analogue signal into DV?
The Canopus range seems like it would do the trick (ADVC55, 110 or 300, with the 55 closest to my price-point.) But the specs say it's compatible with FCP, and don't mention FCE explicitly. If I buy it, will it work, or is there some particular difference between FCP and FCE, that means it won't?
    Mac Mini 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Canopus works just fine with FCE. I've been using my ADVC 110 with two versions of FCE for two years and it works fine ... the 300 should be even better cuz of the built in TBC. I know from others that you will have no compatibility probs.

  • Can't import AVCHD footage from my canon HG10 camcorder

I have a Canon HG10 that shoots AVCHD high def footage. I've always gotten it to import footage into final cut pro 7 and iMovie (before switching to osx lion) Now that I have final cut pro X, I try to add the camcorders files into the import bin and it gives me an error saying the following:
"AVCHD" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure.
Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
I tried the "log and transfer" in the old previous version of final cut pro (which always worked for me before installing lion) and it also gives me an error. Same thing with iMovie now.
Is there some way I can get this to import into final cut pro X? If not, is there any other 3rd party transfer program or any other solution to get my footage onto my hard drive to edit in final cut pro X?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Okay, so I made a disk image of my camcorders hard drive. I mounted the image and tried importing the archive. It still does the same thing. Let me also clarify one thing. Only when I click on any folder contained in the image does it give me the error message:
"AVCHD" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure.
Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
When I click on the actually disk "CANON_HDD" it appears in the import window for a half second before dissapearing. Sorry, I didn't mention this earlier. Can anyone please give me a solution for this?

  • Importing AVCHD files from Canon HFs10 cam into Premier 4.2.1 on Mac

I have a consumer camera Canon HFs10 that records AVCHD files, however I cant import them into my Mac version of premier 4.2.1. When I attempt it says it does not recognize the file. Where do I find the codec for this type of file? I have run Adobe update but the same problem still exitst.

Copy whole card to your hdd, then import via Media Browser.
    See how that will work.

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos.  Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices at the same time as the usb ports are side by side.  How do I import my photos from the media card to the external hard drive now?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

  • How to import AVCHD movies from Canon HR10 (mini DVD) to iMac / iMovie?

I have just bought an iMac (I am a PC user for a very long time and not yet familiar with the Mac software), and I am having troubles with some basic tasks: I want to transfer AVCHD movies from my Canon HR10 (mini DVDs) to my iMac / iMovie. However, the iMac / iMovie does not seem to recognize the camera when I connect it via the USB cable, i.e. nothing happens at all (the disc is finalized, and the camera is in "Play" mode). I have also tried to import the contents of the mini DVDs via a network harddisk, but iMovie does not seem to recognize the format?! I don't know what I am doing wrong?

I think iMovie will want to see the camera as a device before it will do the import.
Not sure you can import direct from the card, as your experiments have shown.
It may be due to the processing of the video as it comes off the camera.
Other people may have a solution though.

  • How to import AVCHD clips from HD camcorder?

How I can import AVCHD clips from Sony HDR-TG1 with best possible quality to iMovie '09?
Camera records clips as 1080i format but when I import them to iMovie '09 quality are cr*p. I have a same problem with iMovie '08. This has something to do with interlacing and single field processing but is there any workaround (other than using PC)?

Preview playback may not be too good since QuickTime in general doesn't seem to deinterlace very well (when it deinterlaces at all).
Quality of exported footage varies greatly according to whether or not you select +just the right+ export settings. See this thread for details:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8859971
If exporting to SD (particularly, to iDVD), see here:

I'm planning to update this guide soonish with information on how to end up with 720p60 output from 1080i60 input (i.e. in effect treat the input as 1920x540 at 60 frames/sec progressive, turning it into 1280x720 at 60 frames/set progressive).

  • How do I import AVCHD clips from my hard-disk?

Has anybody been able to import AVCHD clips stored in a hard-disk? I save my clips onto my hard-disk after downloading from the media card from the camera however iMovie does not seem to recognize the folder structure.
    S.r.

Yes, this worked. Ideally it would be nice not to have to do that as I don't fully trust the disk image format as a final archive format and hence end up duplicating the media. I would prefer to leave it as ordinary folder structure (which works with FCP 6.0.1).
I suppose this could be a .1 release feature.
    Thanks,
    S.r.

  • Does FCP7 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?
    Thanks in advance.
    Desmond

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.
Here...I have a workflow tutorial for this: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

  • CS3 - Can I Import AVCHD footage into Premiere and if so, how ?

    Hello All;

  • HT1386 i want to import my library from my ipod to itunes on my computer

i want to import my library from my ipod to itunes on my computer

    Hey Hup42,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, the best option may be to operate multiple user accounts on your Wife’s computer. The following article outlines this solution, along with another solution of having multiple iTunes libraries:
How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
    Create multiple user accounts
Do you share your computer with someone who has different tastes in music and media? You can create separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. You can maintain separate, personalized iTunes libraries and customize each devices' sync settings accordingly.
    Mac OS X users
Learn how to set up other user accounts.
    - OS X Mountain Lion v10.8
    - OS X Lion v10.7
    - Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard
    Windows users
Look in your computer's Help documentation to learn how to set up other user accounts. To find this information:
    1. Click the Start Menu and click Help or Help and Support.
    2. Enter "new user" in the Search field.
    3. Press Return.
If you create multiple user accounts on one computer but want the same media to be available in iTunes for all users, you can share music between different accounts on a single computer.
    Thanks,

  • I am trying to import Firefox bookmarks from a Windows machine into Firefox on an Apple. I do not want to use Safari. How do I do this?

am trying to import Firefox bookmarks from a Windows machine into Firefox on an Apple. I do not want to use Safari. How do I do this?
I have, on my HP laptop, running XP Pro, using Firefox 4.0, went under bookmarks to show all bookmarks. A window opens up that says library. I then go to import and back up, and I choose export HTML. I then move this file over to my new Mac Pro. On my Mac Pro I also have Firefox 4.0. I go up under bookmarks, show all bookmarks, import HTML. It lets me browse and I find the file on the desktop, I select it then nothing happens. I am not interested in using Safari. I would like to continue using Firefox. However, as an experiment, I followed the same process except on my Apple computer I opened up Safari and tried to import in the Firefox bookmarks. It came up with an error saying the file could not be accessed. I then thought perhaps the file got corrupted, so I went back to my Windows Firefox and re-exported the bookmarks again. Same problem. So, am I creating the bookmarks incorrectly on my Windows machine?
    Thanks,
    Kent

Probably your Mac cannot understand the Windows html format, please try the following to see if it helps:
In your PC, export the bookmarks in html as you did in your post. After you have saved it, change the name of the file to “bookmarks.html” and save it again.
In your Mac, import the saved file as you posted.
