Want to install MY copy of Final Cut Studio & change Name & Serials

I want to install my personal copy of FCP onto an iMac I just purchased, but every time I restart it still says old name and old registration number. Tried deleting Library/Application Support/ProApps/Final Cut System ID....but still won't let me change registration info???

I'm confused.
You did a clean install of Final Cut Pro on a new iMac, and some other name and serial number comes up?
That's not possible.

Installing used copy of Final Cut Studio 2

Hello,
I've been reading around the net and haven't been able to find a very clear answer as to what happens when you buy and install a used copy of Final Cut Studio. I understand that the program can be sold as soon as it is completely uninstalled from the seller's machine, but it's what happens after that on the buyer's machine that I am dealing with.
It is important to note that I am dealing with full versions of the program, not upgrades (nor do I have to option to consider them in my situation).
These are my questions;
1. When the buyer (me) installs the seller's used copy of Final Cut Studio 2 will I be able to install the program on both a desktop & laptop like when the suite is new (this is vital because I am getting a new laptop and need studio on both machines)?
2. If (for some unknown reason) the seller's used copy of FCS2 doesn't install, can I install FCS HD without any problems?
3. If for some reason FCS2 isn't completely uninstalled from the seller's machine will it impede my installation process of FCS2?
Any info you can give me in regard to any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. It is a bit time sensitive (not that I have a deadline but I need to do this asap) so immediate responses would be amazing.

When I say FCS HD I mean the suite that came with Final Cut Pro (5.1.4), DVD Studio Pro, Motion 2, and Soundtrack Pro, and Compressor 2. This version (5.1) was made to work with intel machines.

Selling a Registered copy of Final Cut Studio 3

I am wanting to sell my copy of Final Cut Studio 3 but it is registered to me. Will the new owner be able to register it if I do everything legal per the copyright agreament? How would the buyer go about registering it when my name is already on it?

It's not complicated. All you have to do is sell the complete package (discs, documentation etc). Remove the software from your computer. The new owner registers it in their name and takes over ownership. Done.

Question About Installing Individual Programs in Final Cut Studio 2

I recently installed Final Cut Studio 2, but I chose not to install Livetype on the initial setup. Now I would like to install it, but was curious why it seems to be installing all the information from the other programs I installed last week. Only Livetype was available on the "Custom Install" screen, it was blue and checked. Everything else was greyed out, but still checked. However, it seems to be repeating the same install process I did previously; and I am curious if this is going to create any redundancies on my computer. Any help?

Install two versions of final cut studio

Hi, can I Install two different versions of Final Cut Studio, and let them coexist without the previous one being erased? Let's say I have Final Cut Studio installed, and I want to Install Motion 3 that comes with Final Cut Studio 2, but keep the previous versions of the other programes. Is that possible, or the installing of Motion 3 will affect the Final Cut Pro and other applications that I had installed?

You could also do a dual boot system, though on a MacBook Pro, it may not work, due to limitations of single internal system drive.
Not sure what capacity your current system drive has...and you'd really want to think this through before committing.
You'd essentially do a full archive of your current system drive, then a full erase, create 2 partitions with one running FCS1 and the other running FCS2. You'd likely need to place 'extra content' on an external (like for Motion/STPro/DVDSP/LiveType), to keep resources to a minimum on your system drive.
Frankly, I'd be hesitant to go that route, but thought I'd toss it out there.
Ian's suggestion looked much better to me.

How to Install Alpha Transitions into Final Cut Studio?

I downloaded the Alpha Transitions and now have a folder on the desktop named Alpha Transitions that has sub-folders. How do I install them in Final Cut Studio? I couldn't find any instructions.

Since the transitions are just media, I keep them with the rest of my media used for editing; in a folder on my media drive.

Help with Installing Soundtrack 3 alongside Final Cut Studio 2

Hi All,
I am looking for advice on how to install Soundtrack Pro 3 which is part of my Logic Studio Upgrade. I have a Macbook Pro with Final Cut Studio 2 and Logic Studio. I just bought the upgrade to Logic Studio (and not Final Cut) as I mainly do audio work and rarely video editing any more.
The installation instructions say that Soundtrack Pro 3 and Compressor 3.5 have new components which are not compatible with my older Final Cut Studio 2 and will not be installed.
Is there a way to install Soundtrack Pro 3 as a standalone application in another part of my computer, like under a different user or in some way where I can open it independently from the Final Cut Studio 2 program? Or is upgrading Final Cut Studio 2 to version 3 my only option?

It's easy... just boot from your OS CD, and choose erase and install from the optional installs button once booted. Run Software update a few times until there is no more to update... This will erase the hard drive and install a new OS on it.
Install whatever.
To boot from this drive, hold down the option key during a startup , and you can pick it from the dialog box that opens. To reboot just select the other drive in the startup disk pref in Apple System prefs.

Final Cut Studio Educational version serial number

I've been using an educational version of Final Cut Studio for years, and now it is asking me for my name and serial number before I open the program. I've looked at the box that the discs come in, and have found some numbers, but they don't seem to be the serial numbers and they don't work. Is there somewhere else that these serial numbers may be? Also, is there a reason why I am forced to put in my information to log in now?

There are two stickers with the serial # attached to the "Installing your software" pamphlet that came with the suite. This is the only place that you will find it.

Have you recently had the computer repaired? The encrypted serial is tied to the Logic board ID. You will need to delete that file if so.

Final Cut Studio asks for serial number EVERY time I open a program

I recently purchased Final Cut Studio 2, and every time I open a program (Motion, FCP, Compressor, etc.) it asks me to put in my name and serial number.
What gives?

New iPod Touch-want to load videos created using Final Cut Studio

I'm unable to transfer movies I create on my Mac into the iPod Touch. I'm assuming all transfers to the iPod need to go through iTunes - is this correct?
I created a video in Final Cut Pro, then compressed two versions of podcasts in Compressor.
H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 320x320(QVGA)
H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 640x640(QVGA)
I then dragged them into iTunes library, thinking they would go into the Podcast folder, but instead they went to the Movie folder.
I synced to the iPod, and they fail to transfer/load. I then selected "Create iPod or iPhone Version" from the iTunes "Advanced" menu in case there was some file issue, but was unsuccessful in dragging it to the Podcast folder.
Does the iPod Touch sync up to all iTune's folders, or, is it limited to what's in the Podcast folder?
Is there a utility that exists to verify the video files are of the correct format.
Are there other steps I am missing?

The problem was the "Sync Movies" setting - it was disabled. The challenge was finding the settings, and wouldn't have been an issue prior to release of version 3.0 software upgrade notice.
The "Sync" settings were where I first looked, from within iTunes, but as I said, the device settings were being hidden by an "Apple commercial" for the version 3.0 software upgrade - once I clicked on "Remind Me Later" I was able to see the 8 tabbed configuration screen. I guess marketing trumps usability.

Can I install just FCP from Final Cut Studio?

I currently run an old version of FCP on a 4-year-old dual 533 G4, so it doesn't have enough power to run Motion or DVD Studio 3. I plan to buy a new G5 in about 6 months, but in the meantime I want to run FCP 5 on my old machine. Can I install just the FCP upgrade from the FC Studio disk?

Yup - and fyi fcp 5 & DVD Sp 4 run fine on my old girl (same as yours).
Motion won't install as you know.

Written/hard copy of Final Cut Studio manuals

I have done an upgrade and would relly like to know how I can puchase the manuals. I know they come as PDF files but call me old fashion

All true.
However if you don't know the term or can't spell it right, the PDF's indexing is exactly the same as the printed manuals... And you certainly can go to the index, and click on chapters that may help you. I find it still easier than carrying around a book, and flipping through the pages...it's a pdf of them that has links all thru it (can't click on a books page and jump around). But you can search it just like you would if you had the printed manual... rather than use the search dialog. Just use the index... and start clicking there, just as you would if you had the printed manual... you'd have to open pages that the index in front sends you to, right?
I think you're right, David, you can't take it away from the system unless of course you have a laptop to read it from. Which I do... and you don't even have to load FCP to get it either... just take a copy of it from the contents of FCP's application icon. It's a bit buried there, but it's not impossible at all.
I still prefer the online docs... I wanna save the trees. It doesn't really cost Apple all that much to print them, so we'd not save all that much except in shipping charges. Nevertheless... a tree saved is a tree making nice air.

Installing Final Cut Studio 3

I recently had to restore from back-up to a new laptop. I went to use Final Cut Pro from (Final Cut Studio 2)and was asked for a serial number. Unfortunately I have lost the discs without registering (monumentally stupid I know). Bottom line is I want to buy a copy of Final Cut Studio 3 and install that.
Would you recommend I uninstall my current unregistered version..or can I install straight over the top of it even though it is not an "upgrade" version I will be buying. (it will be the "full" version.)

Always a good idea to do a clean install, however, if you buy a legit copy of fcstudio3, don't see why you can't just try using the full (rather than an upgrade) serial number when it asks for the serial number.
Good luck in finding a copy of fcs3. Apple's not selling it anymore.

Final Cut Studio Pro 2 Install - Skip Final Cut Pro itself - TT_NEWALREADYI

I hope you can help. I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB RAM, with OS X 10.4.10 running. It came with iLife 08.
I installed Logic Studio 8 (which was successful), and have been trying to install my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. When I run the installation, the options appear for custom install, but FInal Cut Pro, Compressor and QMaster are greyed out, and the action identified for them is "skip. If I rest the mouse over any of the options the text TT_NEWERALREADYINSTALLED appears.
I have tried uninstalling the Logic Studio components with AppZapper, and retrying the install of Final Cut Studio, but no matter what I try to do, it won't install Final Cut Pro.
Can anybody help?

Can't locate Final Cut Studio after installing

So I installed my copy of Final Cut Studio on my computer, but cannot locate it anywhere. I do have a version of FCPX on my computer already, so I'm wondering if this is causing a conflict? Thanks for your help.
