Want to install reader 11 in other than C: So far no hints/suggestions/links etc have worked
Simply trying to install adobe reader 11 on windows 8.1 in other than drive C. So far all hints/links/wizards/suggestions have failed.
Its becoming rather frustrating as this should be simple. Other vendors make this very easy.

It is pretty simple but depends on how you're trying to install. If you are trying to install from "Adobe Reader Install for all versions" (follow the link) then you won't get option to customize your install. If you want customization then you should download the installer and install using it. You can download the installer directly from "ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/11.x/11.0.10/en_US/AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe".
Once downloaded you can simply double click the downloaded exe and it will first extract the installer and then show you another dialog that contains a button saying "Change destination folder..". Use this button to change install directory.
OR
Alternatively you can use the below command line to install:
AdbeRdr11010_en_US.exe /msi INSTALLDIR="<PATH to the folder>"
Some people already suggested that you use "msiexe /i install file" - but you were unable to fine the install files.The MSI and other installation files are packaged into the exe above. If you double click and run the exe above then it will extract all the required files under "C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}" folder on your machine. You can then use the MSI file in customization Wizard to make customization you want. Customization Wizard only works with MSI files and it won't accept exe.
Last but not the least "Seems like the only way to do this is to install it, then move it to where one wants it, the edit the registry and hope one doesn't screw it up. Not a good option IMHO". I can assure you that you'll screw it up. Don't do this.

10.6.2 won't install to another volume other than the boot volume

as is often recommended for updates, I install from another volume other than the one I want to update, and never update the volume I am booted from. The 10.6.2 update (both combo and update only) won't update any other volume other than the one booted from. Previous updates of OS X have always been able to do this. When I try to change installation location to another volume (which contain 10.6.1) it posts an error saying "This update requires 10.6.2 to be installed", which is wrong it two ways. First, how can an upgrade require itself to be installed before it will actually install. Second, there is no reason it shouldn't have been able to update the 10.6.1 volume. I had two 10.6.1 volumes, when booting from either one, it wouldn't update the other. The update will install if it's run on the volume I boot from, but that defeats the purpose of trying to eliminate update issues by installing from another volume.-update-
In order to to update remotely, there seems to be a number of new and interesting restrictions
imposed. I came to these basic conclusions by experimentation:
1. I was unable to install a 10.6.2 update to a remote 10.6.0/10.6.1 volume, while booted from
a 10.6.0/10.6.1 volume. In other words I had to be booted from a 10.6.2 volume to be able to
remotely install (or reinstall) a 10.6.2 update to a remote 10.6.0/1/2 volume.
2. If the volume I was installing to was another internal volume, then I usually (but not
always) had to set the volume I was trying to install to, as the default startup volume in system
preferences before the installer would accept it as a valid volume to update.
3. If the volume I was installing to was a firewire or USB drive, then the #2 restriction did not apply,
but the the #1 restriction still applied (I still had to be booted from a 10.6.2 volume to install
a 10.6.2 update).
4. If, after following the above rules, you are still having trouble, simply rebooting and trying
again will usually work.
So in conclusion:
Remotely updating an external firewire or USB drive was relatively simple and easy, just boot
from an internal 10.6.2 installation and do it.
Remotely updating another internal drive though, can be quite annoying.
Apple, it seems, is heavily promoting the automatic update method.
Lately, it seems, it is getting more and more difficult in many cases, to get a major
OS update to "take" properly. I have been heavily using the "bare bones admin account"
method (outlined in my previous post) for the last several months with good success.
I agree with you that the remote method should be the best, but Apple's install packages
have become increasingly difficult to install using that method, even in 10.5.x.
I will say this though, the updates I installed today using the remote method
are working just fine, even though I had to wrestle with them to get them installed.

Boot Camp does not come on DVD, what did you install. -
Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?

How can I install to a drive other than C?
I installed the CS6 Master Collection trial version. During the installation, I specified a destination folder on my D: drive (C: is a small SSD drive meant to hold only Windows).
For the 32-bit versions of the programs, the shortcuts created in the Start Menu point to the D: location I specified during installation, but clicking on them gets me a "file not found" error, because the actual programs were placed on the C: drive. They work if I copy the installed Adobe folder and its full contents over to the appropriate D: location.
The 64-bit versions are a different mess: Unlike with the 32-bit versions, the installer placed the 64-bit versions of the programs in the specified D: drive folder, but when I attempt to start the programs, I get the "Configuration Error: Please uninstall and reinstall the program; Error: 1" message. Presumably this is because some of the configuration files or settings the programs are looking for are actually pointing to locations on the C: drive, where the installer put them despite my directions. But I have no idea which files or settings they are, or how to find them.
How can I fix these configuration errors and get the 64-bit versions working?
If anyone from Adobe sees this, can you please fix the installer so that it installs the ENTIRE package where I specified, and that all the various pieces installed know where the rest of the pieces are in a non-C drive installation?
My system:
Windows 7 SP1
Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM
C drive: 60GB SSD (Windows system files)
D drive: 1TB HDD (All other programs and files, including my Windows User folders)Yes, I have redirected my User folder to the D: drive.
I know that some shared components must reside on the C: drive; that's fine. I just don't have room for the entire installation on there.
The real issue here is that, when a drive other than C: is selected as the destination, the CS6 package installs into a broken state every time, out of the gate, on my system. Some components get installed to D: and some to C:, but the various components of the programs seem confused about what exists where, as shown below:
I select a folder on D: as the destination folder for the install, and here is what I get:
64-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the D: drive as specified, but attempting to start them results in a configuration error message stating that the program must be uninstalled and reinstalled, and lists "Error code: 1".
32-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the C: drive against what I specified. The shortcuts installed in the Start menu for the 32-bit versions point to the locations where these program files SHOULD be, on the D: drive. If the Adobe folder containing the program files is copied over to the correct location on D:, these programs function normally with no errors.
I have the 32-bit versions working by copying the program files from C: to D:. I just want to get the 64-bit versions working as well.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated; I'm really looking forward to testing the CS6 suite on my system! -
I want to edge to a phone other than the one that I am "eligible" for
I am very frustrated with the service that I have received lately. I currently own an iPhone 5 and have an upgrade in July. The phone works fine other than the short battery life and little storage left due to the fact that the new software updates get larger as they go. I became eligible for early edge at the beginning of February. When I went to take a look at my options I was told that I would only be able to edge to a droid max. I have had iPhone's since 2010 when I first got a smart phone, my entire platform runs off of Apple and I have absolutely no desire to change that now.
I called customer service to see if anything could be done to change this option and was told that she could not do anything at the moment, but if I called back in the middle of March that I would be able to get an iPhone 6 and that she would notate my account saying just that. I waited like she told me and called back yesterday. I was then told that my account was notated "if she calls back in a COUPLE OF MONTHS that she will be able to get an iPhone 6." I'm sorry, but there is a big difference between a couple of weeks and a couple of months, especially considering that in a couple of months I will be able to upgrade my phone anyway which would mean there would have been no point in calling back if that's what I had been told originally. Why would I be told one thing and be specifically told when to call back, and then have her write down something else completely? It is very frustrating to be told one thing and then to essentially be told that I am incorrect because something else was written down. I have been a Verizon customer since 2007 and stayed with Verizon even when I moved to my own plan in 2013 and the fact that I am being given the run around is extremely frustrating and annoying. One of the requisites AS LISTED ON THE EDGE PAGE is that your line must be eligible for an upgrade. Verizon lifts this requirement IF you want to purchase a specific phone. If the phone you want is not eligible for Early Edge at this moment, it may be at some point in the future and the phone CURRENTLY available may NOT be available for Early Edge. You were able to get the phone you wanted on Early Edge because it was the phone(or one of the phones) eligible at the time for Early Edge.
Verizon does not have a link for Early Edge because it is not always available AND the eligible phones change from time to time. This is no different than any other special they occasionally run.
Regardless, since a link WAS given for Edge which DOES list upgrade eligibility as being a requirement, if someone DOES NOT fulfill that requirement it is not out of the question that other portions of Edge may be different, too, such as what you posted "All Verizon Wireless smartphones, tablets and basic phones are eligible for Verizon Edge." If Verizon relaxes a requirement to enter into Edge, why is it so hard to fathom they may ALSO change something else such as which phones are eligible???
The fact that the OP IS NOT able to purchase an iPhone on Early Edge simply reinforces this fact. -

You can install Adobe apps on any drive you choose during install. Just be aware that no matter what some components will always be installed on the system root drive.

I have several books in pdf format. All, including the attached, read perfectly in Acrobat and all, except the attached, read perfectly in various eReaders. The attached file, however, cannot be read by any reader other than Acrobat and cannot be imported into Calibre and converted to any other format.

What does Adobe Reader X say for Document Security (under File > Properties)? The SECURITY METHOD is the key information. You are quite correct that some PDF files use security methods which lock them to Acrobat. -
Reading mime types other than text
Is there a way to parse out text from mime types (other than text). I am using the following code for getting content of emails but it gives a "class not found exception" when the email content is something other than pure ascii text or if the email has attachments.

The keyboard connection seems to be the ONLY thing I'll ever use the BT for. Then again, maybe down the line on a future iPad firmware update, who knows what the BT might then do? -

I want to install Windows 7 on my imac in bootcamp. I have a windows 7 upgrade disk and a full vista disk. Normally on a PC I would install Vista, then upgrade to Windows 7. I see that bootcamp 4 only supports Windows 7.
Can I install the Windows 7 upgrade disk without first installing Vista? Will this work in bootcamp?

JimInstall 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.
