I don't think you will have many problems in this platform, but I'm not 100% sure.
What I recommend you is to get the VMWare and try there. VMWare is a software where you can create a virtual machine running under windows. In this virtual machine you could install solaris 10 (and any other OS you want to test in your computer). I have my Solaris 10 running under VMWare with excellent results (Laptop with Intel Celeron processor)... where I have VMWare installed in Windows!

  • I want to install a third operating system on my macbook pro. I already have windows and i want install unix or linux in there. Is it possible??

I want to install a third operating system on my macbook pro. I already have windows and i want install unix or linux in there. Is it possible??

Yes, it's possible, but if your Windows system is on a Boot Camp partition then you have to first remove it. Then create however many partitions you want for the operating systems. You have OS X on one, so you need two more - one for Windows and one for Linux. You then install Windows and Linux separately to their respective partitions. Download rEFIt
Use it as the replacement bootloader so you can properly boot from each OS properly.

  • How to Install Solaris for Intel so that it boots off from a boot floppy?

    Hi all,
Sorry to bother you with this one (I went through all documentations/manuals and could not find straight answers to following
    specific questions):
I have one hard drive with 1st partition used by Windows XP and a second partition that's a blank FAT 32 (using Partition Magic)
I want to use for Solaris for Intel.
    My very specific questions:
(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted
partition? I am asking you that because all manuals (except one) pretend that I can run my Solaris install on a blank Fat partition...
but I believe that documentation at multiboot.solaris-x86.org stresses that if the partition is not a blank UFS one, it wont install Solaris
(2)As you already know, some Oses like Linux or FreeBSD can be installed on a partition and be booted off a boot floppy.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only.
BTW, I currently have Solaris 7 for Intel.
    Thanks for the answers.

(1)That blank Fat32 partition: can I run the Solaris install over it ..or should I absolutely make sure that it's a blank UFS formatted You can install Solaris to that blank FAT32 drive but Solaris WILL convert it to UFS BEFORE doing the install. In other words, after the install it will be UFS and not FAT32 anymore.
So without that boot floppy, no trace of the OS. How can I do that with Solaris for Intel. I want my Solaris to boot off a boot floppy only. Not that I know of. Some people have reported booting Solaris off of a USB drive though.

  • Linux guy wants to install solaris 10 via nfs using centos as nfs server

well in linux when installing this way I simply copy the dvd install image to an nfs share (or do mount -o loop "isoimage" /nfsmountdir), copy the boot.iso so a cdrom and do a "linux askmethod" during install and then specify the nfs server and dir.
I want to learn sun and want to start by really understanding the install and how to set up slices etc. I would really like to do this using nfs using my centos box as the server as this method at least when installing linux is much mush faster.
so can I do this and if so what are the commands. I did see some documentation but it was for installing from a sun nfs server. but I need to install from the centos as the server. I already have the iso's for the 5 cdroms as well as the dvd image. if possible I would obviously like to use the dvd image.
thanks and remember I am a sun newbie (just bought my first solaris book this week so the more dummied down answer would be the best one for me). if it can be done could you give me the exact process.
    thanks a million (and one).

The Sun network installer scripts only work on Solaris. So there's no instructions from Sun for configuring the daemons on Linux necessary to do the configuration.
There are some guides on the net, but I don't know of one that tells the whole story.
You might consider installing Solaris in a VM on the linux box, then configuring jumpstart on that. You could then see how the daemons on it are configured and replicate that configuration on the Linux machine.

  • Install solaris 8 (intel version)

    Dear,
I try to instll solaris 8 but i get following message, Please help
Unable to mount a Solaris root file system from the device:

    Press Enter to Continue.
    Thanks
    John

You've selected the wrong boot device.
You have to select your CDROM device to boot solaris from. This will run the installer from CDROM
which prepares your HDD. Once solaris is installed on your HDD, you can select the HDD as the
    device to boot solaris from.

  • Install Solaris 8, Intel platform

I have the two installation CD:s OK. Installation starts OK. I can chose "Solaris interactive", but
here comes the problems: a lot of (all?) undefined symbols like:
    /kernel/drv/ipsecesp: undefined symbol:' xxx'
and the boot process stops with "tmpfs mount failed".
    What to do ?

Where did u get your oracle817 version for intel solaris?
in cdrom top dir, the runInstaller is just a shell script, and
there is a binary program in install dir, try to run that
program and give out the result?

    Hello,
You need to rename the 3 large files with an .iso extension to the end after you unzip them. For example, rename the first file from sol-8-1_01-install-fcs-bin-ia-ml to sol-8-1_01-install-fcs-bin-ia-ml.zip. Then you need to use EZ CD Creator to create a CD from an image file.

  • I have a MacBook (mid 2009) running 10.8.3 and want to install a Windows operating system. Which version of Boot Camp and which version of windows do I need.

I have a MacBook (mid 2009) running 10.8.3 and need to install Windows, at least XP, to run some software for work. What version of Boot Camp will work and where do I get a licensed copy of XP or Windows 7

The version of Boot Camp on your Mac will work, you must buy a copy of Windows 7 or 8 (not XP)
Windows drivers can be downloaded from here.

  • Installing Solaris 9 with other Operating Systems x86

Hi, I am new to Solaris world. I want to install solaris 9 on my home computer on which I've already installed Windows XP and RedHat Linux 9. I have a few questions regarding the installation process.
    (a) Is a primary partition necessary for installing Solaris 9 (I have only one primary partition and free space in extended partition)? Is there a way to boot Solaris 9 from a logical drive in the extended partition?
    (b) Will choosing the default option on the Solaris installation fdisk screen erase my previous partitions?
I will appreciate if anybody care to answer.

    hi sulemankm
solaris needs a primary partition, booting from a logical drive won't work.
for very detailed information take a look at

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation - stuck at initial network setup

    Hi !
We installed Solaris 8 Intel (Europe/ger) on a PIII and are stuck in the
network config. It asks for systemname, ip,subnet, domain, dns.. (our settings are ok for sure)
but when whe click the confirm-button it reads some error message
    (translated):
'Error during system configuration. Go back and check your settings'
    An interesting fact:
The net seems to work, the machine's got its ip and we can ping it from outside.
WE JUST CAN'T FINISH THE SETUP TOOL (Interactive Install).
What we already did is configure the gatway in etc/defaultrouter, and
with route add default. The router is in the same network, and it's ok.
    System:
    PIII/700 on
    ASUS P3BF
SCSI Adaptec 29160 (driver found on http://www.adaptec.com)
    ATI Rage Pro 3D
    3C905B FastEthernet-XL
(By the way, the NIC works fine, didn't expierience any problems)
    Thank you in advance !

Oh. One more thing. You may want to install this system
as a standalone system, i.e. do NOT configure it as a networked
system. Then, once all installation is complete, then go back and
    change to network config.
    Try this. Thx. Tushar Patel.

  • Solaris 8 (intel) installation

I have not been successful to install Solaris 8 (Intel version).I am
installing from the (Install CD) and I get to the Solaris Boot screen that says:
Select one of the identified devices to boot the Solaris Kernel and choose F2 to continue.
Solaris identifies 2 IDE Disk Drives (on Primary Controller), a third IDE HDD (Secondary master)
and the CD ROM as a slave on the Secondary Controller.
When I chose the CD ROM as the Boot disk, but the system hangs forever!. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Kamel Elchazli

    Hi!
I also had the same exact problem during the install. The only way that I could procede was to tell it that I didn't want to install networking. Now when I boot, it tries to load the elx0 driver (for my 3Com 3c509b) and brings the following message, "SIOCSLIFFFLAGS cannot assigm requested address." I have checked the Irq/IO setting in the hardware configuration agent and everything seems to be correct. To top it all off, once I logon if I enter "ifconfig elx0 192.168.1.2 up" then everything works fine. I tried to forceload the elx0 module in /etc/system to see if the module just wasn't loaded early enough but this did not help. Any ideas of what else I should check?
    TIA

  • We can't install Solaris 8 - IBM PC SERVER 315

    Hello:
We are trying to install Solaris 8 (Intel) (02/02) in an IBM PC Server 315.
    Some words about it:
    - 128 Mb RAM
    - Pentium Pro 200 Mhz
    - Adaptec AHA-2940U/2940UW Ultra SCSI in PCI bus1,Slot 4 (Info from Solaris install) (Target 7)
    - Hard Disk IBM SCSI (Target 0)
    - CD-Rom SCSI IBM CDRM00203 (Target 6 of SCSI) (info from Solaris install)
    We have a big problem.
We can't install Solaris from CD.
After Loading kernel , when it begins Searching /dev and /devices...we see this text in the screen repeated a lot of times:
    WARNING: /pci@0,0/pci1011,24@2/pci9004,8178@1(adp0):
    timeout: abort device, target=6 lun=0
And before this something like it has some problem and begins a resinc ??
    Please Could you help us?
Solaris has been purchased from Sun on 12 March 2002
    A lot of Thank's!
P.D: Please, excuse my poor English.
    A lot of thank's.

two other severs wouldn't run the cd either? Break it down a little it will be more solvable. We will create two separate problems with this. First we will check the cd disk itself. Put in another system and install solaris. If that works, move to the cdrom drive....move it to the same computer you just installed solaris on...if it works then it is another problem.
