Want to install Win 7 32-bit with Bootcamp on a 2009 iMac 24in running Mavericks. Do I have any good options?

I need to get Win 7 32 bit running on 2009 iMac 24-in, on a Bootcamp partition. Problem is I'm running Mavericks on that machine, and from everything I've read, Bootcamp 5 doesn't support 32-bit anything. Is it possible to do so without downgrading MacOS to an earlier version? I will if I have to. Would it be possible/advisable to boot to 10.6.8 from a removable drive and create the Bootcamp partition on the internal (10.9.x) drive? Any other options that can get me running Windows faster? Under Parallels it's just too slow.

As a possible alternative, Is it possible to only load Win 7 to the machine without bootcamp? Could I simply partition the drive for Windows and install? It's not that I want to run Win 7 -- MacOS is a far better solution for me. But for my bookkeeper, who will use this system extensively, MacOS is a foreign landscape and her software is win-based. I don't want to pay her to learn Mac-ese. And I don't want to buy a PC!
Thoughts?

  • Can I install Windows 7 (32/64 bit) with bootcamp 3 on an iMac 11,3 (mid 2010)

My cousin has an iMac Mid 2010 (11,3) and installed Windows 7 (32bit) on a Bootcamp Partition (NTFS) with 100GB.
But after trying to boot with windows, the boot stops and Mac OS comes to front......
Is it possible to install Windows 7 with bootcamp 3 on an iMac?
Apple says only XP or Vista 32 bit is possible....
But here I read Windows 7 also.... ?!
    What's going wrong?

  • Cannot install Windows 7 (64-bit) with Bootcamp

I tried to install Windows 7 64-bit on a MacPro running MacOS 10.6.7 with Bootcamp Version 3.0.4 (325).
I get the following hardware information from 'About This Mac':
    Model Name:          Mac Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacPro1,1
      Processor Name:          Dual-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          2.66 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          2
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per processor):          4 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          1.33 GHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MP11.005C.B08
      SMC Version (system):          1.7f10
After I inserted the Windows installation DVD and boot it up, I got an empty screen that asked me to select boot type, 1 or 2.
The keyboard did not respond any input so the whole installation was hung.  Can someone shed some light on what may went wrong?

    You can
    Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
You just can't boot from the DVD without extra steps.
Apple uses UEFI on those Macs that are "blessed" as being compatible, and yours and mine have older 2005 era EFI32 that won't.
We also are stuck with 1.9GB usable RAM in 32-bit Vista/7 also, another blow.
And no firmware update to Unified EFI 2.x to make us "compatible." Has not stopped 1000s from doing so though.

Why is this so difficult?  A lot of the directions are outdated by months.

It is not difficult if you read and follow the instructions located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

  • Bad Sound in Windows 7 (32 bit) with bootcamp 3.1 on iMac 8,1

I have the following sound issues in windows 7:
I have a strange noise in the background of the sound. On low volume it is more notice able then on high volume. The noise seems to come from the left side only, when i mute the left side the sound seems to be ok.
When i mute the sound (both sides), there came still hearable output from my imac. It seems to come only or more from the right side.
The headphone jack is not working. The system detects the plug in of the headphone, but that's all. The sound come still from the internal speakers.
I try the following things to fix it:
I installed the newest realtek sound driver. It make no difference.
I deactivated wlan and bluetooth to check for interference and conflict problems. It had no effect.
I try different settings in realtek sound manager and windows sound mixer. The only setting that helped was muting the left side. Not really a solution...
    In snowleopard everything works fine.
    Perhaps anybody can help me.
And sorry for my bad english.
    Greetings
    Andreas

    Hello BennB,
    Have you checked compatibility?
    Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.
    Thanks again,

    Hello
I want to install win 8 but not with Boot camp. So I downloaded my drivers and win 8 and I burned its DVD but when I want to install, at the select disc, I get an error about  windows can not be installed on this drive because partition map is GPT. I formatted two partitions as FAT32 and by PARAGON NTFS as NTFS. But I cannot.
    Can someone help me?

Or better yet install and run your Windows8 on a VM like ParallelsDesktop.

Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • HT5639 I want to install WIN 7 on my MBA using Bootcamp. What is the easiest solution

Being an avid Quicken user I find that MAC ESSENTIALS the Quicken app is a lame duck no comparison to the windows version.
SO, I want to install a copy of WIN7 using Bootcamp. I'd appreciate some tips on a easy installation since there is no optical drive to work with

Did you take a look at Quicken 2007 for Lion (and Mt. Lion) for only $15?:

Still not the full complement of features found on the Windows version, but much better than Quicken Essentials.
Have never attempted to install Windows into Bootcamp on my discless Mac Mini, since I use Windows XP with Parallels.

  • Installing Windows 7 64-Bit Using BootCamp on Mac Pro 2,1 (Early 2007)

    Hi everybody,
I have Mac Pro 2,1 (early 2007) 8-core, my OS X is 10.6.4, I couldn’t install Windows 7 64-Bit on BootCamp separate drive (as my Mac Pro 2,1 is not supported for this installation by Apple). I am seeking help if anyone find a trick to do that task. Your help on this will be highly appreciated.

I was waiting to see if the original poster was still intent on going through with it, since it's (a) lot of work, and (b) an unsupported configuration. Unless he's using > 4GB of memory I'm not sure why he needs the 64 bit version of Win7 (there's even less reason to run 64-bit Windows as a VM). I'm not prepared to assume the responsiblity of solving any/all current and future problems he may run into, especially if this is for "work" and not a hobby-level, "I just want Win7-64bit" situation. If he's reading this and wants to proceed -
The Jowie page, while workable, requires a more steps (i.e. even more work); plus, the screenshots used are from an earlier release of imgburn, which has different options from the current version, and if the original poster needs that much handholding he could be put off.
Win7 AIK is "needed" because of the oscdimg.exe that is included. It is the "official Microsoft sanctioned" way of generating Windows ISO images. It's a one-line command that outputs an ISO image file once you have the Win7 disc in the drive, no need to muck about checking/unchecking boxes etc., and running the risk of burning coasters (since there's no way of knowing whether your output works until you actually run it, and imgburn has too many ways of messing up when you don't know what you're doing).
There are alternate "direct" sources for oscdimg.exe, which are smaller downloads than Win7 AIK http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=696dd665-9f76-4177-a 811-39c26d3b3b34&displaylang=en , but I'm a little chary of "programs sourced from unidentified hosts", even though I'm certain most of them are just being helpful and are not malicious (have you read Ken Thompson's Reflections on Trusting Trust - http://cm.bell-labs.com/who/ken/trust.html )
If the original poster (or anyone else reading) is interested, either the jowie.com method can be used, if you are averse to a command line or have poor download bandwidth, or you can get oscdimg.exe (however you choose to do so) and execute:
    oscdimg -n -m -bd:\boot\etfsboot.com d:\ c:\iso\win7dvd.iso
assuming oscdimg.exe is in your path (or your current directory), and you've created a directory c:\iso
Incidentally, after getting 64-bit Win7 installed your problems aren't over yet, because Boot Camp will refuse to install the 64 bit version on your "unsupported" machine. There is a workaround (see my post in the thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2589967&tstart=0 ) but I do not know if there will be a future release of Boot Camp that would defeat this.

What does the message say, exactly?
    Try this:
From the Finder's Go menu, choose Computer:
Double-click your hard disk icon. It is usually named "Macintosh HD":
    Look for this folder:
If it appears in that window, drag it to the Trash.
