Want To Keep Song Ratings After Sync

I performed a format and fresh install of everything on my PC; this included adding all my original music back into my iTunes library. Of course, iTunes still wants to sync but this requires the songs on my iPod to be deleted. That's fine but I have spent a lot of time giving my songs ratings and would like to keep those ratings. Does anyone know how I can keep the song ratings and work around this situation?

You're right, you can't get it off your iPod. You need the itunes library database file from your old PC.

The ITL file is the important one that holds all the metadata.

Are these purchased songs from iTunes?  If so they do not count against your cloud storage.

  • Songs missing after syncing iPod

The title of this post is a bit of a simplification of various problems I seem to be having with iTunes. The story is as follows:
1 I run ivolume periodically to equalise sound levels. However the last time I ran it it quit unexpectedly and I subsequently found that a song file wouldn't play. After I deleted this file then the next one in the library wouldn't play.
2 After repeating this process a few times, I decided instead to delete my entire iTunes library, wipe the disk partition it sits on completely clean and restore a fresh iTunes music folder from a backup
3 After doing this normal service was resumed
4 However when I synced my iPod for the first time after doing this, only about 700 of my 1000+ songs appeared on the iPod and back in my iTunes library. Plus I got a message post-syncing about 'not being able to write to the disk' (I think that's what it was.) I couldn't see any of the missing songs in the underlying file structure in my iTunes music folder so presumed them missing
5 I was about to restore my library from backup again but upgraded to iTunes 7.3 first. This had the effect of restoring all my songs back into my library (presumably because the new software reorganised or replaced the library file?)
So now everything is back to normal except that, after a fresh back up, my backup programme reported that the DS store file for some of my songs couldn't be backed up due to errors.
I now want to re-sync my iPod and am planning to restore the iPod first to its factory settings in order to try to avoid my songs going missing again.
But -before I do- does anyone have any ideas about what might be going on? And whether I should be doing anythng else? And are the DS store files a problem?

It sounds like you the MacBook Air was not your syncing computer. You can only sync with one iTunes library/computer but you can manage music and videos manually among different computers/libraries.To do that
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

  • TS1314 I have lots of organized photos on my PC and I want to keep them organized to sync to ipad.... how is the best way to do this?

I have spent a lot of time saving, organizing and arranging photos (for the last 7 years) on my PC, and would like to know the best way to transfer these, AND MAINTAIN THE ORGANIZATION OF THE FOLDERS, to my new ipad (and later, my iphone). I have a really good system, and I do not want to have to do it all over again, on the ipad. I DO NOT want to subscribe to another monthly service fee (i.e. the iCloud) but DO have iTunes on my PC.
What is the simplest method to do this ?  I have tried synching, but, each time have lost photos (on my ipad) OR have had NO ORGANIZATION AT ALL to the photos once synced.  I have all these photos (5.6gb) in the My Pictures folder, then subdivided into years, then subdivided into events and months within the years.  So, my transfer of the My Picures folder, completely transfers all of them, but with NO further organization.  Again, I have spent years doing this, and don't want to have to re-invent the wheel.
Can someone advise (or even better, lead me to a youtube video) that accurately shows the best way to do this ?
Thank you, in advance, for your help.
p.s.  I particularly enjoy Dan Nations very informative articles on how to get the best from my products.  And, wish Apple would explain "how it works" regarding the syncing methods on the Operating System.  It is the only thing I "don't get" about using my iPad..... meanwhile I LOVE my new mini ! ! ! ! ! ! ! thanks Apple, for keeping things simple.... Please don't change that !

Correct, it will only be one-level, the Photos app doesn't support sub-albums - the sub-folders photos will be included in the parent's album.
If you select My Pictures at the top of the Photos tab when syncing, then you should get an album for each folder that is directly under it - so if I understand correctly what you described then that would mean an album for 2013, one for 2012 etc. And each of those should include all the photos in the subfolders under it - so 2013 would include the photos from the events and months subfolders under it.
You can't sync them separately, only the contents of the last sync remains on the iPad, by not including a folder in the next photo sync you are effectively telling iTunes that you no longer want that folder/album on the iPad so it will be removed and be replaced by the contents of the new sync (you can't delete synced photos directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next sync).
The app that I use, Photo Manager Pro, allows you to select and copy a folder (via FTP), but you would need to select each subfolder individually, which if you have a lot would be time-consuming (I think that if you select '2013' it would ignore the folders beneath it).

  • How do you stop play counts and song ratings being synced?, How do you stop play counts and song ratings being synced?

There are 5 ios devices being synced to my itunes on my conputer, how do i only make my devices sync song eatings and play countback and forth?
    Cheers.

There are a couple of ways to do this.
    1) Open the music trimmer and trim the track that way.
    2) Drag the music track onto the frame of your video where you want it to start. The music track will be below the video track. You can drag the right edge of this music track to the left to make it stop at any point. In essence, you can treat a music track just like a sound effects track or a voice track.

  • Restoring song ratings after re-importing.

I accidentally deleted hundreds of songs from iTunes.  I dragged tham back into iTunes from the Trash but I lost all the ratings and playcounts.  I have Time Machine back-up.  What files do I restore to restore my ratings?  I do have some new content since this happened (mostly podcasts). I'm terrified of causing more damage by trying to fix this.  Any advice?

The key to getting your ratings and other playlist-related data back is to have a back-up copy of the iTunes Library files.
If you do, put them into the iTunes folder and, assuming the songs are located in the same place as they were before, you should be all set.
If you don't have a back up copy of those files, your options are more limited. You will want to investigate 3rd party software such as PodPlus which says it can retrieve playlist data from your iPod (assuming you have an iPod with the music on it). Other options can be found here: http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/copying-music-from-ipod-to-co mputer/

  • Photo keeps re-appearing after sync

I have a bizarre situation with my iPhone: I connect it to my MacBook: iPhoto tells me that there is one new photo on the iPhone, I import it into iPhoto on my MacBook and delete it on my iPhone. So far so good. Next time I connect my iPhone to my MacBook the same photo is back, I import it, delete it from the iPhone. Next time I connect my iPhone to my MacBook - the photo is back again.
What the heck is happening here, why does this poto keep reappearing again and again and again?
    Btw: I have iCloud.

Same issue every time I sync. Previously synced photos come up, seemingly at random. I have to click the individual photos that have not yet been synced. This started after I began using the Cloud.  Any help here?

  • Apple Store Ad keeps iPod on after sync

Last night I connected my iPod to my PC to allow my iPod to sync. Since it takes forever, I went to bed before it was done. This morning, the iPod backlight was still on and displaying the syncing screen.
I looked in iTunes and there was a dialog that said something like, "There are new games for your iPod in the Apple Store. Would you like to go there now?". As soon as I clicked "Yes", iTunes went to the Apple Store and my iPod screen went to "Disconnecting" and turned off on its own.
In other words, my screen was on all night because of a dialog that had nothing to do with the sync, but for some reason, prevented the sync from finishing.
Is there any way to turn this advertising feature off?

That's how it's supposed to work.
When auto sync is finished it dismounts.
If you wan to stay connected, select the iPod in iTunes, then tick Enable Disk use.
You will have to Eject the iPod when you are thru.

  • Itunes deletes Podcats I want to keep

    Hello,
I download video podcasts on to my Ipod. Video-Podcasts I want to keep in Itunes after I have watched them, are being deleted from the Ipod and my computer, after syncing. I have highlighted the settings: Episodes to keep: All episodes, but it still keeps deleting them.
I am sure that I have made all the adjustments necessary in Itunes, so that it should work, but somehow Itunes seems to ignore my adjustments.
I even had my brother doing everything I did, on his Itunes, and it worked with him.
What can I do to stop Itunes deleting my Podcasts?
I have had that issue for a while now, and couldn't resolve it.
Do you know what to do? I have new IPOD Touch 8GB, and have the latest Itunes version installed on the Computer (Windows 7).

See Why did iTunes 11.1 (126) delete all (SEVERAL HUNDRED) Podcasts.
More recently a new option has been added that automatically deletes podcasts when they have been played. it is turned on by default so you may need to revisit your settings. I'm on an iPad just now so I can't check the details.

  • Losing events on iCal after syncing

    Hello.
I'm having some really frustrating problems with my iCal events. I keep losing them after syncing my iPhone to iCal on my iMac. If I put a date into my iPhone and later sync it to my computer, sometimes it works. However, after other subsequent syncs, I end up losing quite a few events. I have no idea why. I have my settings in iTunes to automatically sync when I plug in my iPhone. Aren't I supposed to be able to add events via my iPhone and have them sync properly to my computer and vice versa? Is something wrong with my settings? Please help! Thank you!

I am having similar problems and no one at Apple seems to be able to help. When my calendars sync, they change the time of the appts. It is driving me nuts as I rely on my calendar for work appts. It doesn't seem to matter where I enter the appt, Iphone or on Mac, they are still changed. I've missed appts because of this.

  • Can I keep my iPhoto library synced on 2 or more macs?

I have 3 macs that I want to keep my iPhoto libraries synced on. Two are the latest Mac minis running Maverick and one is a MBP C2D that is about 5 years old running OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I carry the MBP when I travel. At home they are all on the same home network. My primary iPhoto library is currently around 60GB. So HDD space is not a problem. I am uncertain about the risk of doing this without causing myself problems.
Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Posting 2006 and 2008 threads that are very outdated is not a good idea
There is no way to "sync" iPhoto libraries
There is software that Old Toad has tested that will sync the photos which may or may not help you
You can easily manually move photos between libraries using iPhoto Library Manager with is probably the best solution

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

I cannot sync my iPod with the Playlists that I want. For example, I have all the songs in my Classical Playlist checked, but after syncing it does not appear on my iPod. Also, there are no opportunities to change syncing options. None are listed in the left column of my iTunes screen.

    Hello Jefflo64,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with syncing music to your iPod.  For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply,"  then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.
You can find the syncing steps in the following article:

my  5th generation ipod acts like it is going to sync and then "ejects" itself before even 1 song can be synced. It then doesnt recognize that it has been ejected and keeps the"do not disconnect" icon on the screen even after unplugging. What do I do?  it also makes a lot of noise while connected to the computer.

Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
    Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. In that order.

  • Songs purchased on iPhone through iTunes Store will not show up on iPhone after syncing with iTunes

I recently purchased iTunes Match (about a month ago).  Since purchasing Match, any songs that I have bought on my iPhone 4S (32GB, Sprint) through the iTunes Store app will not sync back to my iPhone after syncing with iTunes on my computer.  I have iOS 7.1.2 and iTunes 11.3.0.54.  The only way I can get them to show back up in my iPhone music library so I can play them is by re-downloading the songs through the iTunes Store app.  Which is super annoying because now it is about 10 songs that keep doing this, and they are in multiple playlists.  Is anyone else having this problem and have you found any fixes?  Really regretting purchasing the iTunes Match (which is not enabled on my iPhone, just on my computer).

How to create custom ringtones ...
    1. Open iTunes.
    2. Find the song that you want to make into a ringtone.
    3. Listen to the song and find the part of it you want to use. The chorus may be a good place to start.
    4. Write down the start and stop times of the clip.
    5. Right-click the song and select "Get Info."
    6. Click the "Options" tab.
    7. Type in the start time of your ringtone in the text box next to "Start Time" in the minutes:seconds (i.e., 2:01) format.
    8. Type in the end time of your ringtone in the text box next to "Stop Time." Make sure the ringtone is no more than 30 seconds long.
    9. Click "OK."
    10. Right-click your song again and select "Convert Selection to AAC." Wait for iTunes to convert your song. It will create a duplicate version.
    11. Right-click the ringtone and select "Delete."
    12. Click on the "Keep Files" button.
    13. Find the file. It's usually in your User folder under "Music > iTunes > iTunes Music" and under the band's name. It will have an extension of m4a.
    14. Replace the m4a extension of your ringtone with m4r. You can either double-click slowly to rename your file, or right-click and select "Get Info" on a Mac or "Rename" on a Windows PC.
    15. Click "Use .m4r" or the PC equivalent when the system warns you that the change may affect the use of your file.
    16. Double-click the ringtone file. ITunes will automatically add it to your ringtones folder in your iTunes Music Library.
    17. Connect your iPhone and sync your ringtones.
Oh, also to change a file extension. (not sure on Mac), but in Windows you need to go to "control panel" select "folder options". You need to uncheck the box "hide file extension for known file types". This will allow you to view and change the files extensions.
    Hope this is useful ...
