Want to make a career in SAP BI

Hello,
This is Sanjay Sreedhar from Bangalore. Currently, I am working as a Senior Software Engineer on Java/J2EE and related technologies and have an overall experience of 2 and a half years.
I am not really interested to continue doing Java development and would like to move over to SAP.
Among the various modules of SAP, after gathering some information, I felt that SAP BI is the most suitable domain for me. I also have experience of 1 year in report design and development on oracle platform and I found this kind of work very interesting.
Since SAP BI primarily focuses on reporting and analysis, I strongly feel that I can have a good career in this domain.
My career expectations are as follows:
a) Long-term career with stability and growth.
b) Career in which I can feel secure and confident.
c) Compensation as per experience and industry standards.
It would be really very helpful if I could please get some advice and guidance regarding career opportunities in SAP BI.

    Hi,
I have completed my sap fico training, but i don't have any experience. I am an MBA finance having 6.6 years experience in accounts. Then can I get job in SAP field? & what type of course will do after MBA Finance? i want to do career in SAP Fico.

    Hi Mahesh,
as you have more than 6 yrs. experience , you can opt for sap field but the main thing is that still if your job hunt will get ended, you will be considered as ab fresher, so are you ready for those bucks you will get after you will become a sap FI/CO consultant.
Please understand one thing , if you wnats to make your career in sap field, you are most welcome, when it comes to a job for you in SAP FI/CO , you have to consider in your brain only middle or small size industry, because as far as i concern no single major company will provide you exposure to work with them (if you will get, its your good fortune). So, if you have decided to take a step ahead in sap FI/CO i will not give you negative thinking, if you are ready to negotiate in your renumeration in starting your career, then you can take a foot ahead, but look a job in middle size or small companies only, i think through this you will get any exposure more easily.

    Hi Rakesh
I saw your post in GRC and was waiting of it to appear here
First up - 2 years is still junior. You may find batch jobs, transports, monitoring, etc all mundane but it is a foundation and learning ground work and foundations to being a good Basis Administration. And one things for sure, an awesome basic (I name my best-techy-friend) makes a huge difference on project timelines and deliverables for the rest of us.
Installation and Upgrades come with time. Whilst still performing junior tasks you could focus on reading up on approaches in case an opportunity in your job comes us and be prepared to prove to your management that you are ready for a bigger responsibility.
Switching to GRC/Security would be pointless unless you have a desire to learn GRC or Security. These are my background and they are undervalued until things go wrong (insurance policy in a way).
If you do switch you will reset your 2 years of domain experience back to 0 and you will start off with password resets and basic user administration
It takes time to work through the ranks. It was 3 years before I got to build my first role. I spent my first few years in security on email chasing approvals, password resets, user account creation, running reports for audit - sounds familiar to what you are doing now?
You have to master the basics before you are trusted and ready for the more complex activities. By knowing what you are doing now you will be more successful when the time comes to step up and do migrations, upgrades and installations. Support production by mastering you technical analysis skills is how you can break through being a fresher/junior
    Regards
    Colleen
Ps - if your motivation is more than "good things" happy to answer questions specific to security and GRC.
Also, boring doesn't mean it can't get interesting nor does it mean it's a worthless activity: SPAU transport imported before patching!!

  • Starrt career in SAP

    Hi,
I am having IT experince of 2 years. I have been working in java since 2 years . I want to switch my career to SAP . I have no idea about SAP . Can anyone please suggest me what could be best option for me.

    Hi Chandrajith,
As suggested by Selva, you have to take a basic SAP ABAP training to get into SAP.  SAP ABAP Webdynpro exactly suits you because "The concept of Web Dynpro ABAP is identical with Web Dynpro Java and offers more or less the same functions" - SAP, so you can utilize the Java skill very well.
Also, suggested by others, you can do a google search on SAP ABAP Webdynpro.
There is separate SAP SCN community forum for SAP ABAP Webdynpro Web Dynpro ABAP and also check following SAP links as a starting point https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/77/3545415ea6f523e10000000a155106/frameset.htm & Web Dynpro for ABAP: Tutorials for Beginners

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Make a career out of SAP?

I'm currently in a rut.  I'm 28 and been working in the IT field for over 10 years doing everything from customer support to web development to system administration.  Oddly enough, I have my degree in International Business as it interests me.  Now I'm looking for a way that I can combine my technical experience with my international business interest.
SAP caught my eye as a real worldwide company.  Specifically, I'd like to get into the field of International Distribution.  SAP GTS Global Trade Services is where I'm looking but to be honest, I really don't have any experience with SAP.  Is this something I can get training in?  Should I be starting with something else like Netweaver?  What skills are recommended to have before attempting this?  Any and all comments are appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hi All,,
I am Siddhartha. I am a fresher in SAP. I need your expert suggestions please.
I decided to build up my career in SAP and since last 6 months I have been trying hard to understand the basic and a little bit advanced technologies.
When I started learning SAP, I had a good command over programming techniques, have commnd over Java, SQL, etc. I have all the ingredients which are required to build up a good programmer. I am MSc in Computer Science.
At the moment I am well aware of "User Exits, BAdi, ALV, Reports, BDC, Dialog Programming, etc
Now, my issue is I am a fresher and whereever I apply they ask for experience. Can anyone please suggest me what should be my plan of action to go the correct way...I am really deperate to become a SAP Profesional. plz guide me.
    Thanks

  • Career as SAP analyst/consultant

    Hi,
I am exploring the option to build my carrier in SAP analyst/consultant field.
I have more than 5 years of experience of sales and business management in automotive industry. At the same time I have worked on or used SAP as a business user for these 5 years.
I am quiet conversant with the business process, material movement, orders/approval flows etc.
I have the desire and will but I am looking for some answers to convenience myself that it will be a good decision to move in this direction financially and in terms of career growth also. It would be a big help if you could answer the questions below, before I make my final decision. I would request you SAP Gurus to please guide me.
Some of the agencies (AtoS and some others) I have got in touch with to discuss this certification have suggested doing SAP SD or MM certification, keeping my experience in view. If I do it what is your guess how soon I could find a job with this certification.
What kind of salary will I be able to attract if I do get a job. Currently I am getting good salary by auto industry standards (around $15K). As per the information I have got the starting salaries in these roles are some times less than half of what I am getting now.
Finally how fast is the growth in this industry? Let us say I do the certification spend some $500 and join a company with salary less than half of my current. After doing this, as per your experience how soon will I be able to reach or exceed the salary I would have been getting otherwise (assume I perform fairly well in my SAP role ;-).
So finally should I go ahead with the certification?
Rather than an instinctive one, I want to make a well thought over, planned and fairly well estimated decision. I am looking forward to your valuable answers.
    Thanks

I am trying to reply all the bullets in your post one by one.
Some of the agencies (AtoS and some others) I have got in touch with to discuss this certification have suggested doing SAP SD or MM certification, keeping my experience in view. If I do it what is your guess how soon I could find a job with this certification.
for training and certification you can go to any SAP authorized institute , you can find many depends upon which country you are presently staying.
What kind of salary will I be able to attract if I do get a job. Currently I am getting good salary by auto industry standards (around $15K). As per the information I have got the starting salaries in these roles are some times less than half of what I am getting now.
if you are already at $15K  (1,50,000 US Dollar if i correctly understand)  then you are earning much higer then a SAP consultant having a decade experience in SAP. Better look for management job. If salary is the criteria.
Finally how fast is the growth in this industry? Let us say I do the certification spend some $500 and join a company with salary less than half of my current. After doing this, as per your experience how soon will I be able to reach or exceed the salary I would have been getting otherwise (assume I perform fairly well in my SAP role ;-).
    refer the above one
So finally should I go ahead with the certification?
Certification is optional , if you just have user level experience you may not be knowing all what comes within an module, i still recommend training as it give you all back ground about SAP and you can understand most of the master data piece to create a right foundation for a module.
    Hope this will help you.
    Thanks

  • Career in SAP - PS at the age of 42. Advice needed.

    Hi,
I need some suggestions as I am considering making career transition to SAP u2013 PS. I live in the US so I will be pursuing my career in this country. Hereu2019s my background info:
I am a PMP certified and ITIL V3 Foundation certified Sr. Project Manager. I am 42 years old and I have over 15 years of IT experience. Also, I started working on my PMI-Agile certification (PMI-ACP). I work as a consultant.
My expertise is in managing from small to large development and functional projects, process improvement, data management, data strategy, liaison between IT staff and business clients, process Improvement, Software Development Life Cycle, Risks and Issues management, Business Analysis, Software Requirements, Technical Solutions, Time Estimating, Work/ Resource Breakdown Structure, Project Scheduling and Budgeting, Strategic Planning and Solutions, MS Project etc.
Prior to project management, I had strong technical background in Data warehouse, data migration, Database architecture, design, development, performance tuning etc. primarily in Oracle and SQL Server, Business objects, UNIX etc. I have around 13 years of Oracle and Unix experience.
After discussion with several training institutions, they said that SAP u2013 PS is the best option to start SAP career. My questions are:
    - Is it good idea to make a career transition to SAP at the age of 42 in USA?
    - I am at a senior level of my career. Will I be considered an entry level if I start SAP career or will my prior experience be given some credit?
    - My goal is to continue consulting for a few more years and then take a permanent (non- consulting) career. I want to stop travelling on the job. I know a few SAP professionals and they all have a travelling job. Are there good positions in SAP (Manager or director level) that do not involve a lot of travel?
    - Other than SAP-PS, what other functional areas of SAP will be worth looking into?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Is it good idea to make a career transition to SAP at the age of 42 in USA?
It is never too late to start over or make a transition in your career. I know somebody who at 40 transitioned from a manufacturing area to become a BASIS consultant.
I am at a senior level of my career. Will I be considered an entry level if I start SAP career or will my prior experience be given some credit?
With your kind of experience and background, you will fit the bill of a Project Manager. Good knowledge in SAP PS will just be a "good-to-have" item on your resume.
My goal is to continue consulting for a few more years and then take a permanent (non- consulting) career. I want to stop travelling on the job. I know a few SAP professionals and they all have a travelling job. Are there good positions in SAP (Manager or director level) that do not involve a lot of travel?
Yes most SAP Consultants travel a lot. But it depends on the kind of organization you work for. A purely consulting company will demand frequent travelling. But if you work for a product company or if your company is the "client" then the travel is minimal.
Other than SAP-PS, what other functional areas of SAP will be worth looking into?
As I said earlier, you do not have to get your hands dirty with the various modules in SAP. For your experience you can oversee the work done by others. But yes, always better to have a good command in the module. PS module is one of the most robust and "complete" modules in SAP. It is probably the only module that is in some way or the other connected to all the core modules in SAP - MM, SD, FI, WM.... you name it.
So to sum up, if you have a great command over PS, then you pretty much know a thing or two (considering the oceanic size) in SAP.
