Want to make animated cartoon dvds

Hi,
I have been using Photoshop and Premiere Pro to make movies and photos of my toddler son.
Now I'd like to branch out to make some homemade animated cartoons for him and burn them to a dvd for viewing on TV.
I have the Adobe Master Suite Collection, and am trying to figure out the best use of Adobe programs to make these animated movies...I would appreciate any help before I spend too much time learning the wrong program!
Is Flash the best place to make the animation and then input to premiere and subsequently make the dvd in Encore?  Or is there a better work flow?
Thanks for any help!
Mandy

Thanks guys, you all have been helpful. I know the best solution is replication...however, that is not possible. This is not for a big commerical super Church, it's for your more regular family size church...not far over 200 members, tops.
So, I know to use verbatim dvd-r burning at 2x and I will use 2x burn speed in Toast from a disc image created from iDVD. Without replication, I know it is impossible to have the dvd play in all set top players, as replication doesen't even fully accomplish that....but...what is the best way to make it as reliable as possible using Final Cut Pro HD 5, iDVD and Toast.
Also an additional question, the church has a dvd duplicator...how effective are those and how should I use it? I do not know the make and model, general advice is what I am looking for.
Thanks guys.

  • Converting animation/cartoon dvd to quicktime

I am trying to edit clips from commercial animation/cartoon DVDs that I own. I first rip the DVD using either DVD backup or mactheripper. When I play the resulting vob files in VLC, they play fine. When I convert the vob file to a quicktime file by either openshiiva, Diva, or drop2DV I run into problems when I encounter parts of the movies that contain text of some form (i.e. a sign or credits). I believe this is due to the multiple language capabilities of the DVD. The video will start to toggle/loop between the english version and another language version. It results in viewing 0.5 sec with english text, then the same 0.5 sec but now with no text or alternative language text, a new 0.5 sec in english, then the new 0.5 sec in alternate language, etc, etc until the text parts are gone. I have also tried using mpegstream clip to merge the vobs and only include one language, and that has not corrected the problem. I have tried a variety of settings with the various programs and not had any luck getting around this issue. I know I could try to edit the non-english part out using quicktime, but that would take much time and is extremely tedious. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? Thank you for your help.

    Colin,
Thank you for your help. I believe in order to export from mpeg streamclip directly to a DV file, you need the apple mpeg2 codec. I was originally going to buy the codec and just use quicktime for editing until I saw that the codec was only good for viewing and not editing. I suppose that is for copyright infringement reasons, but it really annoyed me, and since I was going to have to use freeware/shareware to do my editing I didn't buy it.
I wanted to clarify that the problem I am experiencing is not due to subtitles. It is due to text being a part of the animation and I think the animators creating alternate animations with spanish or french, etc in them instead of english. Within the same video, it converts fine in parts without text, but in parts with text (credits for example) it is a mess.

  • PSE 10 Can't edit read-only layer groups (a.k.a.  I just want to make a custom DVD menu in Elements)

A little background: I wanted to make a custom menu so I opened a copy of one of the canned menu.PSD files in PS Elements 10.  It opened up with all layers and their sublayers showing.  So far, so good.  I did a bunch of editting and had my menu just about right, saved it and burned a DVD with it.  I saw some corrections that I needed to make so I opened the same .PSD file and it showed all the main layers (with the folder icon) but not the attached layers.
I double-clicked to open these layers and got:
"You are attempting to open a group, which is not supported in Photoshop Elements.  The layers in this group will be simplified into a single layer.  Simplify the layers? Yes No."
I was just editing these things the day before yesterday.  All I've done since then is register my software online. I have seen it stated in this forum that "Elements doesn't support layer group/sets" but it was referring to an earlier version I'm guessing.
Question 1:  Is this still true of PSE 10?
Question 2:  If so, how was I editing them the other day?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

If you haven't uninstalled premiere elements then it should work, but there are a few things that will not work when editing the dvd templates:
(it only works on certain dvd templates and only on a machine with premiere elements installed)
*If you change the document dimensions either larger or smaller. (not the size of the elements in the template but the overall size such as using
    Image>Resize>Image Size or Canvas Size)
*If you delete any of the layer groups
*Changing the name of the document
There are probably other causes and they may know more on the premiere elements forum:

  • Want to make a bootable DVD for Grandson to use.

I picked up a eMac at an auction and want to give it to my Grandson so he will stay off his dad's Powerbook G4. I bought the OSX 10.4 install disks so I can do a legal install. However, I plan on limiting what is installed as a lot is stuff he doesn't need. He is eleven and his dad says he is good at getting into things that can cause the computer to crash. Thus the desire to get him is own computer.
BUT, when he crashes and burns, as I fully expect him to, it would be good if he didn't need to have his dad restore the software. Dad is busy enough with two younger sons, the youngest has SMA which means he can't walk because his legs cannot get strong enough to support him.
The plan is to load the HD with the OS and selected software that he can use for school, etc. Then copy the HD on to a bootable DVD that can be used to restore the HD when needed. I don't expect to have more software than a DVD will hold. He will have to keep his data files on some other storage device, something that his dad said he is already doing after having lost some data in the past.
I remember making a bootable CD but have forgot the details. And the OS was 10.2 as I remember. It required having a bootable CD to get the boot OS from to write on the new CD. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks,
    Larry

  • Want to make first high-def DVD

I would like to start burning high-def DVDs. After searching this forum, it seems that (a) iDVD is not yet set up to burn full high-def video to DVD and (b) Toast 10 might be the best option.
How do I determine if my Mac Pro has the appropriate hardware to burn to a blu-ray DVD? Will Toast 10 burn to a blu-ray DVD that will work in a blu-ray player? If the duration of the video is sufficiently short, can it be burned to a standard DVD and, if so, will it play back in full high-def on a blu-ray player?

If you want to make a homemade DVD look professional, you need:
    1. Cameras with better color
    2. Tripod
    3. Excellent lighting
    4. Professional encoder for mpeg2; with software, set it to multipass and maximum quality. It may take many times real time to encode
    5. Proper shooting techniques, so that you're not always moving or panning, which would tax the encoder
    6. Color correction, to make it as vivid as desired
    7. Proper optics, i.e. something with a short depth of field to add complexity to the image
    8. Proper directing
    9. A format of film or video which is not highly compressed (like HDV or AVCHD) and introduces artifacts
    10. A proper soundtrack and sound editor, which will make it "look" better
    11. Dual layer discs allow you to increase your bitrate
So, a homemade DVD and a professional one have very little in common. The fact that they are both SD has little to do with anything.

  • Anyway I Can Make a Cartoon on my new Macbook?

Simply, I want to make a cartoon.
Anyway I can do it with my macbook?
This will be my first time attempting this.
    Thanks

What is an animation than a collection of still pictures shown at fast speed? You can get comfy with your favorite drawing program, and just start pumping out frames. Seqeuntially numbered images are easily stitched together into a sequence using Quicktime Pro.
There are, of course, some commercial packages out there that animation professionals seem to favor. Flash is very popular, which allows you to use keyframe animation on vector art. Toon Boom Studio seems to be another one I hear a lot about. This is primarily designed to process and finish hand drawn animation. Most of this stuff isn't cheap, though, and for a first effort, probably isn't worth it.
If you have already have, and are familiar with a program like Photoshop or Painter, I'd say use those until you know you need something more sophisticated.
Essentially, what's going to determine your success will be your artistic talent, storytelling skills, and an infinite amount of patience.

  • Any good iMac apps for making animated cartoons?

I'd like to design-make animated cartoons using some sort of imac based cartoon video maker. I was looking at the FLIP BOOM CARTOON app available on the app store.
Anyone ever use this app? Or can suggest other such apps to make animated cartoons? Something in the resonable price range. Im not looking to make my own south park series, just home cute simple animations and cartoons that can be saved as video.  Im surprised more people are not interested or into wantng this also.

  • Best way to make a SD DVD from an HDCAM project?

    Hi,
I have a short film in FCP at HDCAM resolution that I want to make a SD DVD of. I want it to look as GOOD as possible. Got any tips on best way to do it? I'm familiar with DVDSP and Compresor/
I'd like to keep its aspect ratio the same and the sound mix the same as how it is in the HDCAM master
    Thanks!

    Generally
Edit in HD and either export self contained uncompressed or send timeline to Compressor to SD m2v settings (16:9) and make audio AC3. Some frame control modifications can also help.

  • I just bought a new macair laptop and it doens't have idvd and I want to make a DVD slideshow with music.  I have an external CD drive. Is there an applicaation that apple has to do this?  IF I buy a used mac, which ones have idvd?

I have a new macair laptop and it does not have idvd. It has a flashdirve instead, so no internal CD drive though I bought an external one. I'm wanted to make a DVD slide show with music and I was told I can't do that in order to play it on a dvd player. Does Mac have an appication to buy that can do the same thing? I thought I saw one for $39.95 but not sure if it will do this. The apple store did not know for sure. Also, if I bought a used mac laptop, which ones will have the idvd installed on it?
    Thanks,
    Phyllis

It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
Other users have complained to Apple via Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html and/or http://www.apple.com/contact/ and have received a boxed copy of iLIfe 11.  Give it a try. In the meantime the following maybe of interest:
iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Is it possible to make a cartoon animation video with Premiere Elements ?

Is it possible to insert 16 different images every seconds in a video ? I will like to make an cartoon animation. Is it possible with Premiere Elements ? It look like it is only possible to change a picture/image every 1 seconds.
What software is good to make a small cartoon in size 140 * 140 pixels ?
    Best regards,
    Bo

    Bo,
    Welcome to the forum.
Doing stop-motion animation in PrE is easy, but as PrE is designed for common Video Frame Sizes, that 140 x 140 pixels will be tough. However, if you create your images at a larger size, that matches a common Video Frame Size, say 720 x 480, you can output to smaller size. In general terms, Video is horizontal rectangular.
To do the stop-motion animation in PrE, irrespective of that Frame Size, you would go to Edit>Preferences>General>Still Frame Duration, and there, you can set that Duration from 1 Frame, to almost infinity. Note: unlike some other settings on that General screne, the Still Frame Duration is in Frames.
You might be better off using a program like Photoshop Elements, and outputting to an Animated GIF. There are also many Animated GIF programs available, and many are free.
Adobe Flash would be a great choice, but it's not inexpensive. Same for Adobe After Effects. Both of those are designed to do all sorts of non-standard Video animations. However, for the price of either of those, one could buy dozens of Animated GIF creation programs.
PrE can do similar with Animated GIF (I could not find this in PrE 11, but others found it in previous versions), but due to its design around common Video specs., there will be limitations to overcome.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Want To Make A High Definition Audio DVD

I have the Creative Suite Production Suite Premium, CS2.  I only realize now that it could be what I need for a project I have thought about for a long time.  I want to make DVDs with high quality PCM stereo sound, hopefully 24 bit/96 kHz rate.  However, I don't see that mentioned in the manual.  Classic Records and a few others have been making such discs and calling them 24/96 DAD.  Only basic video is necessary, like some photo stills or titles.  The DVD should be self starting, like a CD in a CD player, and have tracks or chapters, like a CD. I am not talking about DVD-A.  They work well, but are useless as 95% of DVD players will not play them.  However, 95% o DVD players will play 24/96 DVD like the Classic DAD.
I have experimented with Cirlinca SOLO, but the results are terrible.  Most will not play in and DVD player, or play silently, or only work with 16/48.  I have used Adobe Audion CS3 to produce 24/96 sound files, and was able to use Minetonka Bronze to make wonderful DVD-A discs, but they are useless as almost no one can play them.   Can Encore CS2 or any Encore version make a standard DVD with this autiophile sound?

    Hello Mike,
Neil Wilkes (or maybe Jeff Bellune) should be along shortly with the answers. I think that Neil is on Summer holiday, as he's not been around lately. Should only be a matter of time, until one, or the other, weighs in. When in town, Neil monitors this sub-forum pertty closely.
Good luck, and I look forward to the answers too,

PS FWIW, I use the SurCode DTS for some very nice Audio on a few of my DVD's. Still, that does involve a bit more $ and work, plus a selectable Menu for the DTS. I'll be interested what the experts advise.
