Want to move itunes libary files

Is there no way to move the itunes library files, "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml"? They are in a very stupid location on my computer, (a folder that should be used exclusively for work). I would really like to get the iTunes library files moved to a more appropriate folder, (the library itself is located on a removeable hard disk).

Using TweakUI to Move or Create Your Library/My Music Location
Use TweakUI (See: ’Disk is locked’ or ‘iTunes folder cannot be found’ when installing or opening iTunes ) to create a 'My Music' folder in a spot where you desire. iTunes should then find this location and deposit its Library files there, and the 'iTunes' folder and sub-folders as well (if you direct it to).
First, see this Article for some background information: What are the iTunes Library files?
If you cannot see the ‘My Music’ folder within the TweakUI drop-down selection, proceed on to the following:
1 On the start menu go to ‘Run’
2 Type in RegEdit
3 Navigate in RegEdit to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
4 Delete any entry for ‘My Music’
5 Navigate up the tree to HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
6 Make sure there is an entry for ‘My Music’ and is pointing to C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\My Music (you can edit the value by double clicking it)
7 Close RegEdit
8 Reboot
iTunes &/or TweakUI should now be able to find the folder.

bought a new pc window 7
now i want to move my itune library to the new pc
    old is infected with virus
show me how to move only itune library?

First Get a big flash drive or external Hard Drive, depending on the size of your library. Then, go to where your music library is located on your old PC and copy the itunes folder and paste it in that external hard drive or flash drive. Take that to your new computer, and on itunes go to file and press add to library and select the folder with all of your music in it from that external hard drive or flash drive you saved it to. Make sure under itunes preferences, in the advanced section that the "copy files to itunes media" button is checked.

You want to move your iTunes Library to your new MacBook Pro. On your old Mac copy the folder called iTunes that is in your user>Music folder. Put it into the Music folder of your new MacBook Pro. On your old Mac Deauthorize iTunes. Launch iTunes. In the menu: Store>Deauthorise This Computer. Now on the new MacBook Pro launch iTunes and Autorize This Computer.

  • I have 75Gb in ITunes and a 60Gb Ipod and want to move Itunes to a new PC!

    Dear All
Apologies to all if this is an easy question and I am clogging up the forum, but I cant seem to find help anywhere for this scenario!
I have 75Gb in Itunes on an old Win XP Pro PC, and want to move it to my new Win XP Pro PC. However, I only have a 60gb Ipod. How do I move it(other than spending the next 2 weeks burining it to discs!!)?
Thanks for your help and patience in advance!

There are a few things you could do, networking the two computers is probably the most straightforward. Have a look at this User Tip: Migrating iTunes for Windows to a new PC
If you can network the computers there is also this one: Copying songs over a network to use with iTunes for Windows

  • Want to Move iTunes library to external drive & access from home & work

I want to move my Windows iTunes library to my new external drive and be able to access my music library from my work computer and my home computer. I have read some discussions here about move libraries and I have some concerns:
    1. What is the best solution to the problems people reported about iTunes Helper changing the drive letter back to C: if they booted the computer without the external drive connected?
    2. Can I buy music and make playlists from both computers and not run into problems?
    3. Any other advice to avoid gotchas?
    Thanks,
    Mark

If the drive is formatted NTFS, the Mc will not write to it. You need a driver installed to write to NTFS.
Or refomrat the drive to FAT32/MSDOS and it'll work fine.
If you have the entire iTunes folder on the external, connect it to your Mac, hold Option, launch iTunes and select Choose library... and select the iTunes folder on the external.
Note that the iTunes versions need to be the same between computers.

  • Want to move Itunes and Ipod to other Mavc

    Hi
I Love my Macbook pro, but I'm filling it to the brim with stuff for my 80G Ipod. I need to get back the space.
I have a nice G5 with a lot of hard drive space, I use it just to make DVD's of home movies. I originally stored songs on the laptop, because when I travelled I wanted my music library. Then I got my Ipod, so thats not neccessary. The Library could stay at home.
The content I want to move is all MP3's ripped from my own CD library, and some podcasts, and a few IPOD games.
I do have external USB drives I could use.
    Thank you,
    Joe

  • C drive full - want to move itunes to D drive

    Hi,
my daughters C drive on her laptop is nearly full (only 5gb free). She would like to move her itunes library to the D drive, which is still practically empty.
Can anyone please advise how to go about moving her itunes from C to D drive, as seamlessly as possible.
We are depending on you geniuses out there.
    Thanks

I just moved my entire music folder to my c drive from my external using apples recommended method and this one worked much better. (thank you)Instead of just importing the xml file and the itl file, I moved the entire folder previously and even though I kept setting the itunes new location, as soon as the external drive was removed the tunes were not found. By coping the *.itl file and the *.xml file to the itunes folder ie; my music\itunes music folder
itunes actually found all the music and re-pointed to it using your hold down the shift key method. I renamed the previous itl and xml files to bakitl and bakitl just incase I wanted to revert. Thanks again for tip. cc

  • New MacBook Pro User wanting to move iTunes Music Only over from PC

    Hi All,
This weekend I purchased my first MacBook Pro and loving every minute of it... Makes me wonder why I hadn't moved to Mac's a long time aago, and really seeing the difference between Windows and its slugishness to Mac and its "PERFORMANCE"!
However, with that asside what I am trying to find out is how do I move my purhcased only iTunes files from my PC to my MacBook Pro?
For example, I have some iTunes purchases like Celine Dion's last CD with digital artwork album and stuff in my iTunes on my PC. But because my iTunes library is so old it also has some songs which are in MP3 format from my earlier Creative Labs Zen device. What I want to really do is move those iTunes only purchases with artwork and movies from my PC to my MacBook to enjoy (which include movies as well).
Can anyone advise how this can be done without replacing my entire iTunes folder on the MacBook? I really don't want to have to purchase all of these songs again, but again would like to keep the artwork and movies all attached as they should be on the Mac world.
Basically I'm trying to keep the MacBook as the master owner of my digital iTunes purchases from here on out!
While I know I might be a little "AR" (the last word is retentive, you can figure out what the A stands for)... This would be my ultimate goal...
I've seen some articles on how to do this with iTunes 7, but again know some things have changed and modified with the 8 versions.
    Thanks in advance

Take a look here; it should help:
iTunes for Mac: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
Though it refers to items purchased from the iTunes Store, it applies to all your iTunes content. And if you happen to also own an iPod:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
Once you have the tracks on some removable medium, you can mount that on your new computer and then just drag the content to the iTunes window. Make sure that the option to "copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is set in the iTunes -> Advanced -> General preferences before you do. Alternatively, you can use the Add To Library command and select each track (or folder of tracks).
If you won't be using that Windows system once you move the content, don't forget to deauthorize the system from your iTunes Store account before you dispose of the computer.
    Regards.

  • How to Move iTunes Library FILE not the folder

The FileVault space recovery process mangled my email archives and iTunes library for the second time in two weeks. If it weren't company policy (to protect local copies of source code), I'd turn the **** thing off. As it is, I have to live with it, so I've created a non-encrypted mirror of Users named Files and have started moving all of the files that don't need encrypting there.
I've already moved my music and video files, but I'd like to move the .itl and .xml library files too. I don't want FileVault chewing them up again. All my searches online have turned up nothing, except for a brief mention on these forums that the file cannot be moved. I really hope that isn't true, because it's a really stupid design (just like FileVault has a really stupid design).
By the way, does anyone know how to get the Thunderbird and Firefox prefs.js files back??? I have my email archives organized across 100 folders, and I really don't want to add them manually.
    **** you FileVault!!!

I've moved the iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml files to a shared drive on the network and created an alias in my ~/Music/iTunes folder. This allows me to use the same libray on the iBook connected to my stereo upstairs.

  • Is it not possible to move iTunes U files back into TV Shows???

I'm trying to clean up my iTunes Library, and hit a roadblock: I have some guitar training videos that were stored in TV Shows; I changed their data thru Media Kind to "iTunes U" to put them into iTunes U.  The change happened no problem, but when I use the same process to move them back to TV shows, they're not moving.  I used the same adjustment of changing Media Kind, so I'm not sure what the problem is.  Any ideas? I'm using the latest versions of iTunes and OS X.

    Hi, shorty.
That entirely depends on the copyright holders for the content. Apple does not own the content and can only distribute if the copyright holder allows it.
You should direct your interest in this to the appropriate content provider for the shows you want.
...and when it happens, and you have shows available that I enjoy and am unable to get, I will be really jealous

  • My old computer crashed. I want to move the music files from my iphone to my new computer. Have tried many things which dont work.

My old computer crashed.  I have the data on a flash drive but some of the music was purchased under an old appleID so it won't sync. I am trying to move the music from my iphone to the new computer but I am not having any luck.  Suggestions?

iTunes includes an option to transfer all iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iOS device, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes Store only.
To transfer the music from the flash drive that was purchased from the old Apple ID will require authorizing your new computer with that Apple ID with iTunes. The same for music or any other iTunes content on your iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes Store with that Apple ID.
With the iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
You will need to authorize your new computer with iTunes with each Apple ID that was used to purchase/download any iTunes content purchased from the iTunes Store on the iPhone with the Apple ID.
