Want to move library to new Windows user account

My son had the first family ipod. I installed itunes in my account, not his, and it works fine. We have since added three more ipod users, all under their own window's accounts; they work fine. Well, now dad has an ipod, and I want my own itunes account/library under my user name. What is the simplest way to transfer my son's itunes account/library, currently under my window's account, to his own window's account?

  • One library for 2 windows user accounts

I am having and issue and I don't understand why apple made the software this way. I have itunes installed on my pc and I built a library but when I logged into my wifes account and ran itunes it was as if i was running itunes for the first time on my pc. so now there was 2 library's so made a single folder on directly on the hard drive so it comes up as c:/itunes music library and would not be directly linked to either user account and thus I would be able to turn on Auto update and it we would be able to just plug in the ipod no matter who was logged in and it would update but it does't work. anytime I select auto update feature and I just want to auto update playlists only it says it's linked to a differnt library and stuff, but it's not
    why can't this work seemlessly

It was designed that way so people with vastly different tastes in music wouldn't have to sort through a bunch of music they don't like.
You can keep the actual music files in one place on the hard drive, but have different library itl files for only the music you like in each Windows user profile.
These articles might explain things a bit better
What are the iTunes library files?

  • I downloaded xcode 4 from my brother user account, and I want to move that file to my user account ( how can I do it please help)

Hi everyone can anybody help please, I downloaded xcode 4 from my brother user account, and I want to move that file ( which is xcode 4) to my own user account, I was trying to find how to do it, but unfortunatally couln't do it, so please need world help,

You cannot. You have to make your own download by signing into the App Store using your Apple ID then downloading the file.
If you just want to install it on your computer, then copy the file to a flash drive and transfer it to your computer.

  • I have acrobat XI and a working SN, I want to move to a new windows machine. How do I do it?

I've downloaded a new Acrobat XI to the new machine.
The validating screens indicate that SN is valid.
In fact it is on the same machine. All I have done is replace the
    hard drive.
The validation dialog requests an SN from prior versions which
I also have. None of the products listed are ones that I have had.
Finally, I have the original email from Adobe registration/receipt and download
directions which included my XI serial number. The directions
have worked in the past. They don't work now.
    What is going on?
    -m

    Rave,
Thanks for the suggestion, but it did not solve the problem. The following describes in detail what I did.
I followed this basic approach in a chat session. I can see several opportunities for error, which I have suggested. Further thoughts?  I'll try Ravinder's suggestion next.
    Details:
    - Restarted machine.
    - Started ACrobat XI Pro
.... Acrobat XI Pro window appears that is titled: Serial Number Upgrade
....... message: "Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product
could not be found on this computer"
....... There is a "Select a product" option with window marked Serial Number
            next to it.
....... You suggested that I select "Acrobat 10 Pro" and the corresponding serial
number from my account page. The Acrobat 10 selections are:
               1. Adobe Acrobat X Pro Macintosh
               2. Adobe Acrobat X Pro Windows
               3. Adobe Acrobat X Suite
There is no exact match with what you suggest, though item 2 looks most
            likely.
....... Observation: My account page indicates 4 Acrobat products, three titled
Adobe Acrobat (9,10), one titled Adobe "Acrobat Professional 11"
My account product list does not obvioulsy include your suggestion,
or the possible selection offered in the window.
Though again item 2 looks most promising.
    - Selecting "Adobe Acrobat X Pro Windows"
    - Pasting in the serial number from my account listed for Adobe Acrobat 10.
    - I see that the selection window has returned to "Select a product". I don't think
I noticed that before. I certainly expected to select the product and then provide
      the SN.
    - Reselecting "Adobe Acrobat X Pro Windows"
    - The message does not change. It still says:
....... message: "Serial Number you provided is valid, but a qualifying product
could not be found on this computer"
However, the Next button has changed state suggesting that it may be clickable
    - Clicking on Next.
    - The Message changes and now reads:
....... message: "The serial number you provided is not for a qualifying product,
                      Please try another"

  • Sharing iTunes library across 2 Windows user IDs

My Windows XP computer is set up with 2 user accounts. iTunes is installed and all of my music is stored in my Shared Music folder (this folder is in Shared Documents, which is accessible from each user ID).
I want to be able to use iTunes from either Windows user ID. The problem is that iTunes creates and maintains 2 separate iTunes Music Library.xml files. When I'm logged on (user #1), iTunes uses the xml file in my My Documents folder. When my spouse is logged on (user #2), iTunes uses the xml file in her My Documents folder.
This is problematic. If I add a new song to iTunes from my Windows ID (and the song file is placed in the Shared Music folder), it is added to my library and xml file. If my spouse logs on and launches iTunes, the song is NOT in her iTunes library. She has to manually add the file from the iTunes Add File to Library command.
I'd like iTunes to use a single library that both Windows user IDs can use and maintain. I don't want to have to manually try to keep these in sync.
I can't find any setting in iTunes for this, and the user guide doesn't even mention this topic. Any help is appreciated!!!

    TheMint,
I think it works like this:
The setting you describe is where iTunes will store the music files themselves (.aac or .mp3, etc.) However, iTunes creates an index of all of your music, and it uses that index to display all of your music in iTunes. The index file is called iTunes Library.xml
The index is stored in the My Documents\My Music folder of the user ID you log in as. Apparently, you cannot tell iTunes to store this in a different location.
So if you create an iTunes library under one Windows user ID, the index is created in that user ID's My Documents\My Music folder. If you then log in as another Windows user ID, iTunes does not see the index that was created by the first Windows user. Thus you do not see any of the music listed in iTunes.

  • Essbase client missing after creation of new windows user profile

I created a new windows user profile after an apparent corruption of my old one. However, when I open Excel, the Essbase client (add-in) is gone. Smartview is still there. The client doesn't show up after registering Essbase Add-In is executed. I can add the client by navigating to C:\Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin and selecting essxleqd.xla and essxcln.xll. The add-in then appears to be installed. However, when I try to connect to Essbase, the connection dialog box does not show up. I'm on version 11.1.1.3 and Excel 2007.
Is there a way to resolve this short of re-installing the client? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    dave

I remember the Essbase add-in used to be a small executable of a few MB that was easy to install. It's my understanding that they went to the global installer where they include various product assemblies. The files needed to run the global installer for a simple add-in amount to close to about 4GB in size. Our VPN for remote users is very slow and takes forever to install. I see ther is still a small executable for the Smartview install. Is there a small executable for the Essbase add-in somewhere that I'm not aware of? I can reinstall if that's what it takes. I was hoping there might something a bit less time consuming.
    Thanks John.

  • DW CS4: How to play a Flash Movie in a NEW window after clicking a link or a button on a page?

Hi, using Adobe Dreamweaver CS4, I would like to have a link or a button on a webpage that when clicked will play a Flash Movie in a new window.
Using the 'Insert Panel' > Media: FLV I managed to insert the .flv file on the page, but the movie plays 'in line' instead of in a new window. So far I can't find any 'Properties' or settings to change this behaviour. E.g. like Target _blank for opening e.g. a .pdf in a new Window.
    > Please help.
    Thank you!

Try using one of the popular javascript methods for this. I use shadowbox and you can find examples, info and a download here: http://www.shadowbox-js.com

  • After downloading Firefox 7.0.1, my tabs will randomly move to a new window. Very annoying-how can I fix it? Thanks!

This problem only started after updating Firefox to 7.0.1--
When I'm browsing the internet, the tab I'm on will randomly move to a new window. It's very random and very annoying. Please help me to make it stop!
    Thanks!

Are you inadvertently using "tab tearing". If you drag a tab below the tabs bar and then release it it will create a new window moving the tab to it -- not a new feature. There is no animation or symbol attached to cursor -- at least not for me.
I put up with it and generally see it happen as tabs will widen, or my tabs counter will reduce.

  • I am using Windows 8 with iTunes.  How do I manage iTunes with two different Windows User Accounts?

I have recently bought a laptop running Windows 8 and downloaded iTunes.  I subscribe to iTunes Match and have a large amount of purchased music and imported CDs, along with some films purchased from iTunes.
I have downloaded all of the music and the films to the laptop using iTunes Match when logged in under my User Account in Windows 8.  However, when we switch to my girlfriend's User Account, she can load up iTunes but all the music and films have the cloud symbol on them indicating that they need to be downloaded
Is is necessary to download everything to the computer twice (I can't really believe this is the answer) or are we missing something in terms of using iTunes with two different User Accounts?
    Thank you.

    Step 1
Create a new user account on your device. For Mac users, choose “System Preferences” from the Apple Menu and navigate to the “View” menu. Click on “Accounts” and select the “+” button to add a new user account to your machine. Edit the user information and grant any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
For Windows users, click on the Windows "Start" button, select “Control Panel” and choose “Add or Remove User Accounts.” A new window will open. Click “Create a New Account.” Name the account and set any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
    Step 2
Sign in to the new user account you created.
    Step 3
Open iTunes and click “Sign in.” Enter your Apple ID and password and log in.
    Step 4
Download purchases through the iTunes store. All files related to these purchases are stored under the separate user account, thus separating both iTunes accounts and their libraries on the same computer.
    Step 5
You can share music from both libraries by dragging your music library to a publicly accessible location on your computer. Click “Preferences” from the iTunes menu and deselect “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file.” Add the shared folder to your library from the “File” menu.
    Tip
Create more than one library from the same user account by deselecting “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file” from the “Preferences” menu. Add the files you want to iTunes by dragging and dropping or by opening from the “File” menu and sync your device to that library. Quit iTunes after the sync and reopen iTunes while holding the "Shift" key in Windows or the "Option" key on a Mac.

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • New computer user account

I just made a new computer user account, and i want to move all of my itunes library from the old one to the new one. Is this possible?/ if so, how

Assuming you use the iTunes default settings where iTunes copied added items to your iTunes folder and organizes your library (meaning - everything is all self contained in the iTunes folder), then all you have to do is drag & drop your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes Music folder you find inside the iTunes folder) to a shared folder.
Then in the new user account either open the library directly from that location using these instructions...
How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
or move it to overwrite the iTunes folder created in the new user account and when you open iTunes it hopefully will open the old library automatically. If not, then use the instructions above again to point to it.
If you leave it in the shared folder, you can access the same library from either user account. Again you might have to use the above instructions to get them both pointed to the same location, but once you point them there, you won't need to do it anymore.
