Want to move songs from windows iPod to new Mac

I had previously run my iPod mini on my Dell, and I just got a new PowerBook. I want to transfer all of the music from my iPod to my PowerBook, but I cannot seem to make it happen. Help!!

Priscilla, welcome to discussions! I had to do the same thing abot 6 weeks ago when moving from a PC to an iMac. I use a 3rd party app, iPodRip, that worked like a charm. Recovered all music, playlists, etc. of the iPod to the Mac, didn't lose a thing. You can find it at versiontracker.com. It's freeware for something like the first 8 or 9 times you use it. Once I had all the music on the Mac, I restored the iPod to read on a Mac & I was up & running. Post back if you have questions.

  • Can i move songs from my iPod to my new matchbook air?

I bought a brand new mackbook air and i had trouble on the migration assisstant because the verification window wouldnt show up on my old dell. I would now like to know if i am able to move songs from my ipod to my new mac without having to use migration assisstant. Please help me! Thanks!

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. Hope this helps.

  • Transferring songs from older IPOD to new IPOd Touch

I have an IPOd Mini and I want to transfer the songs to my new IPOd Touch. Any idea of how to accomplish this?
    Thanks

You can't transfer content directly from your Mini to the Touch, if the songs aren't in iTunes on your computer you'll have to copy them back and load the Touch from there. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

Hi Linc, I started setting up my new computer a few months ago so don't remember the details.  I did not use migration assistant, nor do I wish to, I believe it was set up through icloud.   Now that I needed my calendar while doing taxes I discover there are no events for 2014 and earlier (except 2 oddly enough).  I do remember that iCloud instructions were not clear as to what would happen in the choices it gave.
I copied my old user files over from my external back up after my old computer stopped working, was hoping I could put ical folders in the right place to be used by Calendar or import somehow.

  • Can ypou move songs from one ipod to another?

Is there a way to move songs from one way to another, if so can you tell me.

Be very careful when connecting an iPod full of music to an empty iTunes library. There is very real risk of permanently losing all the music.
To prevent auto sync, connect the iPod whilst holding down the 'control+shift' keys and do not let them go until your iPod appears in iTunes.
If you see a message that your iPod is associated with a different library and asks if you want to link to a new one, make sure you press "Cancel".
If you should click on "Erase and Sync" will erase all the content currently on your iPod and it will be replaced with the content of the iTunes library you just connected to.
When you've pressed cancel your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list under "devices" and allow you to change the update setting to manage the iPod content manually, and that will let you use your iPod for the time being without the risk of accidentally erasing the contents.
Then do any of the following to transfer your music from iPod back to the computer/iTunes.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.

For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola and iDump and iPodRobot.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Transferring songs from my Ipod to new hard drive

I had to remove work related programs (and my ipod library),from an office laptop computer I brought home. I transferred some stuff (including wife and kids itunes libraries), from the old home computer to the new (old)laptop, downloaded itunes and it restored their libraries. When I plug my ipod in to it I get the "itunes can only be on one computer" message and asks if I want to erase ipod songs and replce with this library (pretty sure it means my wife and kids). I authorized this computer and my ipod id came up, but then same message came up again. Anyone have any experience restoring itunes library on a new (old) machine from ipod?

If everything that is on iTunes that was on the library then pressing erase and sync will reload the iPod and link it to the library of your home computer. However if the content of the iPod is not on your computer when you get the that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Migrate Songs from Old iPod to New

    Hi,
Is it possible to buy an iPod 30GB, and move existing songs from an iPod Mini to the new iPod? (Or do it from the computer hard drive, recently switched from PC to iMac).
I'm thinking of this as an option vs. buying an add-on battery, or sending the mini to Apple for battery replacement. (Already tried other suggestions, including software update. My daughter's iPod Mini).
    Thanks!

If the songs are still in iTunes you just have to connect your new iPod. If your software is up to date then it should pretty much find what it needs on your computer and update automatically. If not then you need to get them off the existing iPod and back into iTunes. You can move them directly from iPod to iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod Mini and put them back on your computer. This is just a selection. If you are on a Mac then I would recommend Senuti, it's very easy to use.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these and pick one you are happy with, they are generally quite straightforward.
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive through Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

  • How to get songs from old iPod to new one

Hi. Today I just bought a new iPod Nano. I have a mini, but I want the songs already on the mini to transfer to the nano. Is there anyway I could do this? If so, how?<<br>
    PC   Windows XP   Gateway

    There are two possibilities:
    1) after putting music on your mini you've been erasing it from your computer
    2) the music on your mini is still on the computer
If you erase music after putting it on your iPod, you'll need to download a program that copies songs from the iPod and puts it on the computer. Go to your favorite download site and search on the word iPod. You'll find several choices. Once you've downloaded and used the program go on to the next paragraph.
So your music is on the computer, it is cataloged by iTunes, and arranged in playlists. Great! If your music collection is small enough to fit on the nano, just plug the nano in and sync. If the collection is too big, you'll either want to manually manage it or create one or more playlists just for the nano and set iTunes to automatically sync just those playlists.

  • Question about transferring all my songs from current IPOD to New IPOD....

I currently have a 15GB IPOD, that I've had for about 2+ years.....has the 4 control buttons on top of the spin wheel. Anyway, I currently have over 2500+ songs, many from my CD collection.
I'm interested in purchasing a new 60GB IPOD, so I can enjoy the new video feature. Is there any way to transfer all my songs from one IPOD to another? I don't want to do anything illegal, but both IPOD's would belong to me. I don't think I could go through copying all the CD's over again. I don't think they'll be a problem transferring my other songs (not from CD).
    Has anyone done this?
Any helps/hints would be greatly appreciated.

As long as your songs are in iTunes on your PC, then you can transfer them to as many iPods as you own.
