Want to new window

want to new window

This is a "pinned" icon? Try holding the Shift key when you click it -- that seems to work for me.

  • I DON'T want a new window!!!

I want to open a link in a new tab - I DON'T want a new window, even if the page specifies a width or height. I can't believe that FF would try to think for me and override MY prefs - I though that stupidity was left to MS! Even Safari 4 (4.1.2) gives me the option to always open in a new tab no matter what. A web site doesn't deserve to take over my browser, and any good site will be designed or programmed to handle any width/height.
Any way to hack this setting? Or do we wait and hope that FF returns control to the user?

You can check these prefs on the about:config page.

Al the details are in the question: I want all new windows to open in tabs but they dont, even after I have selected the option " Open new windows in new tab instead"

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • I want a new window to open a blank page, instead it opens start page and cant grab icon in new tab to set as home page.

New tab blank page icon is not selectable and therefore I can not click and drag it to home page icon. Other pages work, but not blank pages. I do not want Firefox Start Page.

Install an extension that adds that feature to Firefox.

  • Firefox Nightly unable to open new window in browser

I have downloaded the 64 bit version of the firefox nightly from here: http://nightly.mozilla.org/
    I am running win 7 64 bit.
Problem I have been getting is whenever I want a new window open to have on another screen it never loads. This is getting really annoying now and I have almost had enough. I had been using firefox 32 bit but it stopped loading flash videos and youtube videos thats why I moved to the firefox nightly build.
Also most of the time firefox doesnt close properly, I have to end the process using task manager to start the firefox nightly browser.
Also whenever I open a new window from scratch it always brings up the 'restore previous pages' part.
Please can you help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks

There is no 64 bit Firefox version on the nightly.mozilla.org site, only a 32 bit version.
Although there is a 64 bit version compiled, those are only meant to make sure that the compilation isn't broken. The 64 bit versions for Windows aren't tested like they are for Mac and Linux, so you use them on your own risk. You should stay with the 32 bit versions for Windows.

  • How do I change opening a new window so it stays on the new window when I open it?

When I click on the 'New Window' button, it opens a new window than immediately goes back to the original window. I want the new window to remain displayed until I choose to go back to the original window.

Sounds that you've clicked the Rest button and have created a new profile.
Note that "Reset" creates a new default profile with a time stamp appended to identify it and tries to recover settings like bookmarks and history and passwords and cookies and auto-fill data from the old profile, but you lose data like extensions and other customizations.
Firefox 15+ versions will move the old profile folder to an "Old Firefox Data-##" folder on the Desktop that gets a number appended if you use reset more than once.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Opening A Link In New Window, While Leaving The Existing Webpage Open

    Hi,
When I click on a link in a page, I want a new window to open with the contents of that link, leaving the 'linked from' page still open on my monitor. I don't want the existing 'linked from' page disappearing when the 'linked to' page opens on top of it. I don't think that in Internet Explorer, which I was using before, that the previous page disappeared in the way it does on Safari. I continually find myself losing the page I want to keep while I open another. In Preferences>General, I have tried to set Safari up to work the way I describe above, but I can't seem to find the right default procedure.
    Or,
How do I leave the departure window open, and below the arrival window, when clicking a link from the former to the latter?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

    Hi,
the only way I know of the is to go to file and click for a new Window.
Sounds like tabs maybe your thing, from Safari's Helpviewer. for more info look there.......
To turn on tabbed browsing, choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Tab. Select Enable Tabbed Browsing.
To open a link or bookmark in the bookmarks bar in a new tab, hold down the Command key and click the item, or hold down the Control key, click the item, and choose Open in New Tab from the shortcut menu.
To open a bookmark collection in the bookmarks bar or a folder of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Library in tabs, hold down the Control key, click the collection or folder, and choose Open in Tabs from the shortcut menu.
If you select the Auto-Click checkbox for a folder in the bookmarks bar, then you can open all the bookmarks in the folder in tabs by clicking the folder name in the bookmarks bar.
To open a webpage in a new tab, choose New Tab from the File menu and type the address for the page.
To close a tab, click the close button in the tab.
To quickly switch between tabs, press Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-].
To show a webpage that is in a tab and close all other tabs, hold down the Option key and click the close box in the tab you want to remain open.
When you click a link in a page you are viewing in a tab, the page opens in the current tab. Click the Back and Forward buttons in the address bar to scan pages you have opened in a tab.
If you choose a page from the History or Bookmarks menu, the page opens in the current tab.
Hope it helps you do what i think you are looking for.
    Cheers
    Eme

  • Open a new window (new display) in Java ME - how?

I have now done a log in screen where the user has to type a server and a port to connect to. When the user press the Connect button I want a new "window" with a TextBox to be displayed.
The new "window" is actually a new class which contains its own startApp, pauseApp and all those overridden methods. I can make the window appear?
I Java SE, the new window just has to extend from JFrame and then call the construktor with a reference to the new window, for instance:
    new_window_reference.setVisible(true);
Is there any way to make an application like that in Java ME?

  • Finder preferences: How do I just DBL click folder to get a new window

I don't want to have to push cmd and click folders Every time I want a folder to open in a new window. I want a New Window EVERY time I dbl click a folder, as I have done for as long as I can remember in Mac system. I like multiple open windows, and don't like being Forced into having to take extra steps every time just to do this task I do Hundreds of times a day.
Thanks for any help, which these Help screens were Not.
Open a folder in a new tab or window
When you open a folder in a Finder window, the folder’s contents usually replace the current contents of the window. If you prefer, you can open a folder in a new tab or window.
To open a specific folder, press the Command (⌘) key while you double-click the folder. The folder opens in a new tab or window, depending on your Finder preferences. To change the preference, choose Finder > Preferences, click General, then select or deselect “⌘-double-click opens a folder in a new tab.” (Deselect the option if you prefer a new window.)
To open a new Finder window without opening a specific folder, choose File > New Finder Window or press Command (⌘)–N.
If a Finder window’s toolbar and sidebar are hidden, then double-clicking a folder in the window (without pressing the Command key) opens the folder in a new window.

Helgason: Thank you so much for this solution. I have been using it since March. But I just upgraded to Yosemite. And as you have noted on your website, it breaks the functionality of typing Command-Shift-A to go to Applications and such. Now that Yosemite has officially been released, are you going to create an update?
Also, an update that returns the green button to being maximize instead of full screen (without having to hold down Option) would also be welcome!

  • Folder in new window?

So I've just installed Yosemite. So far, most things are ok, even wifi.. but one irritation. How do you open folders in a new finder window?? This use to be the default for me but now it opens in the same window, Microsoft and Browser style.. I want a new window when i double click on the folder. I tried changing the finder preference, by unclicking the bos 'open folders in new tab instead of new window' but they still open in the same window, unless I right click and tell it to open a new window.. I know its minor, but is there any way to change this?
    Thanks,
    Theo

    Hi cschliek,
yes its a pain. Even in Windows, you can change that behavior. I never understood it, why have 'windows' at all if everything opens in the same one and you have to navigate back and forth? I haven't found a solution yet, except I already know my next computer will be Linux only. Still, at least this update is free, so well done for that, Apple.
    Regards,
    T.
P.S. yes, I found the mouse preference, thanks.

  • Link to New Window

How can I make a link to a new window in javascript code? I
am attempting designing a website and I want the link to open a new
window to another url to a different website?
    Thanks
    Ahead of time

Do you just want a new window, not any specific size? If
    that's the case,
just set the target as _blank in the Properties Inspector.
If you're looking to open a fixed-sized window, you can use
    Dreamweaver's
Open Browser Window behaviour. I haven't used the DW
    behaviour in quite
some time, but I remember that in previous versions, it left
    some white
space around the image (that's what I used it for) or
    whatever. I don't
know if this is still the case.
There are also two extensions that will do the job, and as
    far as I know,
    don't leave any white space.

  • Help! New windows, jump menus and maximizing

Hello all. I am new to Dreamweaver, and I have been having
trouble with some things that should be easy.
    1) How can I force a new window to maximize to the screen
    size?
    2) I am using a Jump Menu, and what I want to do is open a
new window from the jump menu on top of the original window. I want
the new window to open separately and the back button to be
disabled. I want to do this because when I go to a new window from
an original one, then press the back button, the original page is
    not refreshed.
Can someone PLEASE help me with these two items? Is there any
scripting you can share that I can insert or anything else you
    know?
    Thanks so much!

The jump menus are just a <select> form element with a
    bit of javascript
applied. It will work just fine with your templates. And,
    yes, you could
safely use SSI as well to save yourself the hassle of
    uploading the changed
child pages. Most of DWs javascript can be safely relegated
    to an external
js file that you include in the page.
The pop-up menus are a nightmare - don't ever consider their
    behavior when
thinking about other DW features. ;)
