Want to organize library by "album", not "album by year"

I had my library organized by "album". I closed itunes, started back up, and now it appears as "album by year" (even though the right-click drop down menu lists it as just "album". I have tried closing itunes, restarting the computer, and downloading the latest itunes update. I can't seem to get back to the "album" tab. Ideas?

Click on the column header again.
It switches thru Album -> *Album by Artist* -> *Album by Year*.

Want to fill Nano w/ songs, not albums

I've got a 2GB Nano that I'd like to fill with a random selection of songs from my iTunes library (>25GB). When I let iTunes create a random playlist from the library, it grabs full albums that I have ripped over (+ whatever singles I have purchased), rather than singles from albums. Anyone know how to make the Nano load w/ a random collection of songs, like the Shuffle does??

first create your own smart playlist.
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
uncheck "match the following rule"
check "limit to 1800 MB selected by random"
that will create a random playlist.
next, while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in the itunes source list, go "edit > preferences". in the list of playlists below the "automatically update selected playlists only", uncheck the playlist that itunes created for you, and check the playlist you made.
that will now sync to the ipod.
to change the selection of songs in that playlist, open the playlist in itunes, select all the songs in it, and delete. that will force itunes to repopulate the playlist with another random selection of songs.

Coverflow: I want to use coverflow for artists, not album???

Ok so, I didn't want to have albums anymore on my itunes and deleted all of them and put only one a*lbum artwork* for all my songs of that artist. But, I didn't think, and now the *cover flow* on my *ipod nano* doesn't show any of the albums. I want my *album artwork*s on the *cover flow* to show the artists. Please help, (Hope that wasn't too confusing)

QuickBooks for Mac has been available again since at least 2004 (Intuit before that had done nothing with it for years). The current version is QB for Mac 2014. It's pretty much the same price no matter where you look.
The Mac version data is not directly compatible with the Windows version. Sending your data out to your business tax accountant and getting it back in is not at all easy. It's such a pain, our accountant comes here to finalize the books at year end.
There is still also a lot of Windows features for QB Pro which have never been added to the Mac version. They're all on the higher end side that larger businesses would need. I've never run into anything with the Mac version I couldn't do.
If your accountant wants ease of data transfer, then you'd be better off purchasing Snow Leopard Server and run that in Parallels. Then run the Windows version of QB in that.

For the missing Artists on your iPod, make sure their tracks in iTunes are not marked as "Part of a compilation" in iTunes. You can do this by highlighting the track, right->clicking on them and choosing "Get Info" from the shortcut menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Info tab and make sure there is NO tick mark next to this option in the lower right hand corner. Lastly, sync the updated changes to your iPod.

I just want to organize my photos to albums and not appear anywhere else. Photos appear in Photos and no indication if they have been dealt with.

I want to load my photos onto my MacBook Pro, sort them into albums and not have them appear in other locations. If I go to Photos all of the photos in the computer seem to appear. I can't tell if they have been put in an Album or have been edited. Is there a simpler system that I can use.

iPhoto works similarly to iTunes. In iTunes, every track is in the Library and each playlist is a sub-set of the Library.
So, in iPhoto, every image is in the Library and each Album is a subset of the Library. So, your photos will always be visible in the Library and in any album you use them in. That - of course - means that any image can ne used in a multitude of albums, and use no extra disk space. So that shot of your son, daughter and their puppy can be in the Son album, Daughter album, Puppy Album and even a favourites album.
Photos and Events are simply two views of the Library - two doors to the same room as it were.
It's easy to find photos not in an Album - with a Smart Album:
File -> New Smart Album
Album -> is not -> any
and another will find Photos not editoed:
File -> New Smart Album
Photo -> is -> Edited.
As you edit a photo, or add it to an album, they will be dropped from the Smart Album.

oke i'm not done with the whole thing, but i'm doing that right now. Most of the advice I've already read didn't work and at a certain point it said something about shutting down programs then restart. but i notice that there are some pretty important system things in that list and i don't want to mess up my pc :s i'm not a pc genius... and because i'm dutch and my pc-language is in dutch I often have trouble translating and well... i don't always understand the technical stuff in all the articles -_-

Deleting photos in the Library that are not in an Album

As the subject states, is there a way to delete all and any photos from the library that are not in an album. I now understand how to properly delete photos, but before I would drag the photos from a new roll into an album and then delete the ones I did not want from the album and they would stay in the library. It is too difficult and numerous to go back and try and figure out which photos are in albums and which are not. Thank you for your help in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Well, to find them, make a smart album (File -> New Smart Album)
Album -> Is Not -> Any
That will gather them together. The select them and go option (or alt) - delete.
This will move them to the iPhoto trash.
Empty the trash.

I'm afraid I don't quite understand your question. All images are in your Library and only those you specifically select from that Library would be in an Album. What platform are you using? Revel Mac, Elements, web browser, etc?

I have several albums in my library that do not show the album artwork. It states it is not available in the iTunes store. In the past I could copy and past album artwork.

I have Windows 7 on my laptop and the latest version of iTunes. I have several albums in my library that do not show the album artwork. iTunes states that it is not available, even though the album is available on iTunes. In the past, I could copy album artwork and then paste it on my albums in iTunes. In the lates version of iTunes, a past option does not seem to be available.

There are 3 ways to get custom art into the Artwork box:
copy/paste
drag-n-drop
Add from a file location.
In various iTunes releases, it is common that one of the the three is broken. Try one of the others.

do you have a strongly recommended default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) or a referenced library - you have unchecked that option?
It sounds like you have a referenced library and are now experiancing one of the very siginificant drawbacks of a referenced library and one of the many reasons they are strongly not recommended
Also note that iPhoto '11 may use alises in the originals folder as part of the upgrade
It is important that we understand exactly what you have and what is not sorking - what error messages you are getting
You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure of content of the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it -- and you can not rebuild yoru librtary - only iPhoto ir iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ - can rebuild a library unless you are a SQL programmer and understand the structure that iPhoto uses

Hi. I cannot trash photos from an album. Options are "remove from album" or "trash" but both only remove from album not the library. The only way to trash photos is to go to the library/photos and trash from there which is a bit annoying!

If you click the arrow in the right lower corner of the photo in the album, you should see the Trash can. Is it not there?
Or use the key combination option-command-delete ⌥⌘⌫ .

iTunes is album centric, every track is part of an album. But you can opt to view a list of songs if you wish.

Does a library-rebuild lose all albums?

Subject line says it all.
A friend of mine is having intermittent trouble with pictures showing up as blank rectangles in organize view.
Before suggesting she rebuild her library I wanted to find out whether the albums will survive.

Wise to ask first.
A rebuild will get rid of corrupt albums. Albums of course only have "aliases" in them - pointing to photos in the library. The photos in the photo library (iPhoto source Window) will not be lost.
Sounds like your friend needs a rebuild.

Open the iPhoto Library folder. It is normally located in the Pictures folder. To open it quickly, click the Finder icon in the Dock, choose Home from the Go menu, double-click Pictures, then double-click iPhoto Library.
Drag these files to the Trash:

Open iPhoto.
There is also a procedure to check the albums:

Old Toad says:
1 - move the Albums folder and the AlbumData.xml file from the iPhoto library folder in your Pictures folder to the desktop.
2 - launch iPhoto. It if launches successfully you probably have a corrupt album.
To locate the bad "apple", pun intended, do the following:
1 - move one of the individual album folders and it's associated data file into the new Albums folder that was created in the iPhoto Library folder.
2 - launch iPhoto. If it's successful do the same with the next album folder and data file. If iPhoto doesn't launch successfully, that's a bad one and remove it and the data file.
3 - repeat for each individual album folder in the old Albums folder.
