Want to record CD-ROMS from audio cassetes

Have seen a device in shop to play and record cassettes having cinch connectores - two for in, two for aout. Specifications are for Out: »Line OUT: 2
Standard output level: 500 mV (0 dB); Optimum load impedance: over 50 kohms
My 15" Powerbook has these specifications:
»combined analog and optical digital line-in, combined analog and optical digital line-out, « (the 12" has less)
How is it possible to record audio cassetes to my powerbook and burn CD-ROMS or DVDs? Which cable or adapter will I need?
Best regards, Karl

Yes/Ja - Cinch to/auf miniplug 3.5mm
No additional devices needed / So'n Adapterkabel reicht - gibt's in jeder Elektroabteilung.
Bei Fragen einfach per mail nachhaken.
-kay
(ach ja - man kann auch irgendeinen Kopfhöhrerausgang mit dem line-in des PB verbinden; klappt ebenfalls)

  • Importing from audio cassette.

I guess I put the cart before the horse. I asked Apple Care if I could import from audio cassette to my iMac G5 from a boombox. They suggesting posting question in Apple Discussions under Soundtrack/Soundtrack Pro. I now have the information as to what application (Toast 7) I need to accomplish this, but I guess my 1st question should have been whether I can accomplish with the hardware I have. I have a little Sony boombox (plays audio cassettes, CDs, and radio) and only has an earphone jack. I have a connector that I hoped could be used to connect and transmit to my G5. It's a digital stereo mini hook-up extension cable. The package says it's a stereo plug to stereo plug, "The solution for high quality signal transfer". Will this work? If not what do I need? Thanks for any help.

Recently I bought Bias SoundSoap for this purpose but haven't tried it out yet.
To: ThomasG: I am also interested in your results.
Barbara, I have purchased the Griffin and when it comes I will import with that to see if I get cleaner results. (I don't know what a preamp is...as I said I'm really a novice and am trying to learn.) When I import using Griffin do I connect to imic or USB? Perhaps by the time I am able to import the file using Griffin, ThomasG will have some input for us re Bias SoundSoap.
Is the cost for Bias SoundSoap comparable to Toast 7? I've found T7 for $80 through Google. I still don't know where to put my $ for application for my project. Sound Studio 2.2.4 is inexpensive and their support people said that v. 3 for $80 wouldn't give me better capabilities for what I'm trying to accomplish, just more bells & whistles for those who know how to use them.

  • Transferring from audio cassettes to G5 to burn onto CDs

I am a senior cit/trying to learn the wonders of my G5 since I'm now retired. The electronic world is moving so rapidly from one medium to the next. One thing I really want to save is the music and instructional info that I have on audio cassettes to CDs using my G5 superdrive. I was told that I should be able to use my Sony portable boom box that plays audio cassettes and has an earphone plug to connect to my G5 (thru audio in plug?); import the sound (into iTune?) and then use the superdrive to burn a CD to save. Can anyone help me with this project? Apple Care suggested I would probably need Soundtrack or Soundtrack Pro to accomplish this and post my question here. Help Please?

    Esther,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac audio. The below replies are correct about Toast. I did many cassette conversions with Toast 5. They worked fairly well. It's a tedious process though. I now have Toast 7 but I haven't used it for audio cassettes yet.
Remember that in addition to software, you will need a hardware interface to go from your cassette player (RCA jacks) to the Mac (USB). I have an Edirol interface that I purchased online through the Apple Store. It works great. The lines from your cassette player plug into one side of the Edirol. The Edirol has a USB output that plugs directly into one of your Mac's USB ports.
    Good luck with your projects.

  • How to input from audio cassette

I need a step by step way to transfer music from an audio cassette to my imac...I assumw using garage band..thank you

You will need a > 3.5mm Stereo Male to 3.5mm Stereo Female Y-Cable to connect the tape player to the iMac Audio Input jack. Then if GarageBand or QuickTime don't work as expected, perhaps > TapeDeck or a recording app from the App Store will help get the recordings into your Mac.

  • Want to record the output from one mac into another in real time

Here's what I'm trying to do, I'm not sure if it's possible:
I want to manipulate video clips (start, stop, pause, speed up, reverse, etc)  on the regular timeline  in FCP on a Macbook Pro. Then I would like to be able to capture that HD footage output via USB into another Macbook Pro, using either FCP or any other software (Quicktime, imovie) that might work. Is this possible? Or is there another way to do this using firewire or networking?

It is not HDMI...it is a high speed data port.
It is a slot on the left side of the computer, where the headphone jacks are.  Older (two generations older) 15" and 17" models came standard with it.  But the newer 15" models switched that slot to an SD card slot, and only the newer 17" models have Express34.  If you have a newer MBP, you might not have that slot.  If you have an SD slot there...then you don't have express34.  In which case the only option for you is the AJA IO HD.
But not really.  Because the IO HD takes over the firewire bus completely...meaning you cannot then connect a firewire drive to the system.  ANd since playing video doesn't work over USB, and it might stutter on your system drive...this might not work.

  • Recording from an audio cassette into digital format on a Satellite A100

I want to record old music tracks from an audio cassette into mp3 format or similar. I have downloaded Audacity software but don't know if I can actually set up a line-in connection from my cassette player to my Toshiba Satellite A100. Is this possible via the micophone connection? Are there alternative ways of arranging this via one of the USB ports?
If anyone has suggestions I would be interested to read them.
    Thanks
    Ken

    Hello Ken
If you want to do this on professional way you need right stuff for doing this. A friend of mine has bought some package to digitalize old gramophone records. He bought some external device and special software.
I can really do not remember the name of this product but I know it was connected over USB port. The gramophone or, in your case, cassette player must be connected to this external device.
Google little bit around and you will find many good products for these purposes. In my opinion the MIC port is not the best solution.

  • Recording from LPs, cassettes, CDs, radio, VCR, etc.

My iMac finally died after six years of service, and I replaced it with a MacBook. I think I have made a mistake in buying a laptop (For one thing, I hate the keyboard), but I'll just have to make the best of it. Anyway, I need to learn how to transfer songs from my cassette/CD player and turntable/radio to my computer. When my iMac worked, I just plugged one end of a cable into the headphone jack on my cassette/turntable, etc. player and the other end into the audio-in port on my iMac and then used SimpleSound to copy the song into my iMac.
How can I now do with my MacBook what I used to do with my iMac, transfer songs from cassettes, LPs, radio, VCR, etc. to my computer?
MacBook, 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Take a direct output from whatever it is you want to
capture the sound from. Then on the other end of the
output, plug a 1/8in cable from the device into the
line input on the macbook. Then use GarageBand to
capture the sound. Try that, and if anything is
    unclear, let us know!
    Matt
I vaguely remember something about where to make the connection and what to avoid. When you say "direct" does that include the headphone jack? I know that works and is safe, but I am reluctant to connect my computer to the speaker jack for fear of blowing-out my computer. There is nowhere else to make the connection. One jack is safe, and one isn't. At least that's the way I remember it.

  • How to sync audio from recorder and video from DSLR?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 9.  How do I sync mp3 files recorded in a separate audio recorder (yamaha) and DSLR (Sony A7)?

    JayMisra108
On what computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 9? And, please install the 9.0.1 Update if you have not already.
Are you wanting to sync the audio to a video file from which its audio has been removed?
If so, right click the Timeline video, and, from the pop up menu, select Delete Audio.
Then import your .mp3 files to an audio file, and align them with the video file on the video track.
For fine adjustments, as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once. One tap = nudge of one frame.
Or, as you hold down the Shift+Alt key of the computer main keyboard, tap the left or right arrow key once. One tap = nudge of 5 frames.
Consider: Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and setting Display Format = Milliseconds.
Please review. Any questions or need clarification, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thank you.

  • Capturing on a Mac- can't turn off the sound (still want to record the audio)

How do you turn off audio output during capture on a mac but I still want to record the audio?

Easy on a PC, I click the "speaker" icon at lower right of Windows screen and bring up the audio mixer and just MUTE Premiere, then I can surf the web, watch online videos, listen to music etc, without hearing the capture audio. Assuming that's what you wish to do? Must be a similar option on Mac
    Thanks

  • Hi All  I want to rent a film from iTunes. The language is given as french which i don't speak! How can i see if the film has an english language audio without renting it first? Thanks for help

    Hi All
I want to rent a film from iTunes. The language is given as french which i don't speak! How can i see if the film has an english language audio without renting it first?
    Thanks for help

The language(s) that a film is available in should be listed on its description page in the store e.g. (this is from a Mac's iTunes, I don't have Apple TV so I'm not sure if you see the same description pages) :
If a film doesn't have any alternate languages or subtitles then you will just see the 'primary' language mentioned.
If it is available in other languages, then to select it when playing it : iTunes: Language settings for video
