Want to recycle old Mac desktop but can't find install discs. What to do

How do I do this without the disc?

Call Apple and for a nominal fee they will send you a replacement set of DVDs. You will need a credit card and the machines serial number.

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.

Try calling 1-800-676-2775.  Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk).  *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?.  Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • There is an app I want to purchase for my iphone , but can't find it on the app store from my MacBook Pro

There is an app I want to purchase for my iphone , but can't find it on the app store from my MacBook Pro.  I have credit on the Mac Book, but can't see it from iphone.

Are you checking from within the Apps section of iTunes on your computer? Is there a reason you can't download it directly to the iPhone?

  • I want to run apple Hardware Test but can't find it on any CD's.  I bought my iMac in 2009.  I think it had 10.4 installed.  It's not on my installation disk.  Where can I find it?

I want to run Apple Hardware Text but can't find it on any CD's.  I bought my iMac in 2009.  It came with 10.4.  Apple Hardware Test is not on the installation disk.  Should I have it?  Where can I find it?  I"m now running 10.7.4.

    The disc plainly state:
To  use the AHT, hold down the D key as the computer starts up.
Works here. However, there was an issue with installing Lion that screwed this process up.
Mount disc 2, run this command in the Terminal app, OPTION-click & hold Finder's Dock icon, and select RELAUNCH:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1
    That unhides all hidden files/folders.
Now, drill down to /"Applications Install\ Disc"/System/Library/CoreServices/ and drag the .diagnostics folder into your Lion boot volume's /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder. That might require you to authenticate to copy the folder into the CoreServices subfolder.
Run this command to hide the normally hidden files/folders and RELAUNCH the Finder again.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0
This should allow the machine to boot into AHT when restarting and holding down the D key.
If that doesn't do the trick, run this command in the Terminal app:
    sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics
At the Password: prompt, carefully type in your admin password, since nothing shows up on the screen, and hit the return key. Then, try another restart, holding down the D key.

  • Trying to get an old backup back but can't find it!

But when i search for the backup at C:\Users\/USERNAME)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup I find that backup, is it any way to put that map into my iphone again? please answer!!!

If you don't see the backup in iTunes. Make sure the device that you are trying to restore the backup to is up to date on its software.
I was trying to restore from a backup on a loaner phone and did not see the back up. My software on my old phone was at 8.1.2 and the loaner was at 8.0.2, after i updated the software, I found the backup.

  • I have purchased a new laptop & want to reinstall PS11 but can't find the discs, can I download

Is there anyway I can download a previously installed version of PS11 on to my new laptop, I have misplaced the windows install discs, I will be selling my old laptop so all apps will be removed before sale and the drive will be erased

I am not sure what PS11 stands for, but....
You can likely download the trial version of the software thru the site linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.  If you do not have the disks then you hopefully registered the software with Adobe so that you might find the serial number thru your online account.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

BABYLON hijacks my search through Firefox . I have looked at Firefox instructions on how to uninstall BABYLON but I cannot find where BABYLON is hidden in the programs . Would it be there under another name ? thanks , Greg

hello, you might have malicious addons present. please try these steps:
    # [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
    # afterwards go to the firefox menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
    # finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

  • Power PC can't find Install discs

    Hello,
I have inherited a Power Mac G4 2002 Quicksilver. It was diagnosed with a bad hard drive at the Genius Bar. A new hard drive was installed and now it will not start up from the OSX install discs that came with the computer. I also tried to start up from Jaguar and Panther install discs. All I get is the alternating folder icon and “?”. I am holding down the “C” key while starting up. What should I do?
    Thanks

If the Panther install disc is only an Upgrade disc and not a retail full install disc,
it may well lack the ability to start up from what it does not have. If you had a
newer OS X retail installer disc set supported by the hardware in that Mac, an
effort could be made to attempt to solve the first problems & install a newer OS.
Have you tried booting in SafeBoot, then repair disk permissions, then restart?
Sometimes that may help the computer do things it may be unwilling but able.
The computer may be unwilling to boot into Jaguar 10.2 after having run in Panther
10.3.x for awhile and seeing updates, etc. Sometimes, resetting PRAM/NVRAM
may help the computer (or not) to boot from another disc it should. If there is nothing
else going on in it. A Tiger retail disc would be a better test of the bootability of a new
replacement optical drive; while booted, the hard disk drive could be repaired.
Some file vault or other issues, including a firmware lock on the computer, can
sometimes be reset by removing RAM modules and other accessed privilege
means that could not be performed remotely; and where physical access is a
way to overcome such chosen types of secure control over the OS itself.
I'd try to dump the older OS X, and if the other hardware issues are things you
can work around or have resolved, the other ones would be in using old OS X.
Some days, I almost could be talked into getting an all-new Mac. If not for the
want of some extra money to legally do said deed!
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need to reinstall final cut pro 6 but have a damaged install disc, what to do?

Trying to install fresh FCP6 but my install disc seems to be damaged. Can I get another disc?

do some googling on cleaning cd/dvd's.
    Something like this?
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/419762-REG/Aleratec_240131_DVD_CD_Disc_Rep air_Plus.html
I bought a cd/dvd cleaner at radio shack years ago that saved my butt a number of times.  Unfortunately, I have no idea where it is.
And Nick's right (like he usually is) that making a disk image and then mounting it, is a good first step to see if the physical dvd is the problem.

  • I have a Mac os with Lion.  I want to make a photo mosaic but can't find software to do this.

I am looking for a software program for my Mac os with Lion that i can use to make photo mosaics.

Sorry, I had a different idea of "mosaic"
If you want to create something like a collage or a puzzle iPhoto is not the right application.
Unfortunately you hav to use a seperate application for this. I'm pretty sure you will find a matching App in the App-Store.
Eventually this may help -> https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3165373?start=0&tstart=0

  • I am  a .Mac subscriber, but can't find any info on .web version ILife 06//

after logging in to .Mac looking in Learning and support for Iweb 06 there seems to be nothing taught except new version, 08; I tried to find version 6 in vain' I expect .mac to support all versions l I paid my dues. Sees you are all expect everyone to upgrade immediately to 08 > I cannot afford to upgrade besides I read bad reviews of IMovie. So want to wait till I understand this morel ]
Can someone show me how I can find my Version 05 websites I have uploaded and how to use IWEB . Just because an upgrade occurs, I don't think ;mac should stop learning information being put out there for those of us who are stil having trouble using the software. All the upgrades are costing me money in books and then no .Mac support. I know I uploaded some albums from IPHOTO to .web but I just reinstalled Tiger and have to rebuild my Iphoto library. Meanwhile where is any information about version ILIFE6 for .Mac subscribers. If you add up how much money it costs to keep upgrading your Ilife is more expensive than PHOTOSHOP. ANd I still can't use .Webl, imovie, idvd etc.

To answer just one of your concerns...
If you were to upgrade to iLife'08, the installation process will save your current iMovie HD from iLife'06 in a new folder called: "iMovie (previous version)" -- so you would still be able to use that version as well as the new one.
There are probably as many good reviews of iMovie'08 as there are bad. In the end, application software is only as good or bad as it suits the particular person using it. Some people can even tolerate a high number of bugs -- if the software eventually allows them to achieve their purpose.
Meanwhile, while you await more responses from forum readers, you can submit your other questions to Apple via the form half-way down this page:

  • HT204053 I've backed up my old I phone but can't find or load on to my new I phone via cloud

I backed up my apps music contacts mail etc on to iCloud from my old device and I've logged on to I cloud on my new phone but I can't download the back up as it is there in iCloud but I can't see how to put it on my new phone help please

To restore an iCloud backup to your phone, go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens on the phone and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Sign into your iCoud account, accept the terms and conditions, then choose the backup you want to restore to.
Note: your new phone must be running the same or higher version of iOS as your old one in order to restore the backup.  If it isn't, update it in iTunes first.

I´m writing with macbook pro of my daughter now and ugentnly need to start my macbook as soon as possible. could any body help me??? (sorry, my english is a not so well) andrea from berlin

Since you have the system disks, you can try running the Apple Hardware Test, that should confirm if the drive is dead or not. You'll use the disk that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label.
