Want to reinstall iPhoto only

Hi all,
okay, I'm an idiot (and A Luddite to boot). I did something stupid and short story is I have uninstalled iPhoto 4.0.3 from OS 10.3.9. I've tried dragging a working copy from another disk but no luck. Can anyone recommend a reasonably straightforward way that I might reinstall iPhoto only so I can save everything else I have on my drive?
Thanks,
Steve L.

Use Pacifist to locate, extract and install iPhoto from the disk that it came on with your computer.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created Automator workflow applications (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 5 and earlier and 6 and later and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How do I reinstall IPhoto (only) ?

It has come to my attention that Iphoto has become missing and is not available to use.
Within the last year, in the Spring, I did have to have the hard drive replaced; and at the time, I did have problems with Mail, but IPhoto.app worked despite a great loss from the hard drive breakdown.
The new hard drive was formatted and loaded with Mac OS X Tiger.
I've looked; both on the OS X install discs that my computer came with, and also on the Tiger upgrade disc; for a convenient way to reinstall IPhoto.app, but have come up empty-handed. Both had really complicated methods that say the entire operating system could be replaced.
Is that old-time IPhoto available on line for a free download? I do not need the newest version.
How can I find out what happened to it? How do I restore it?

Use Pacifist to extract it from the computer's original disks. It is no longer available for download.

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
Do not delete the iPhoto library in your pictures folder
trash the iPhoto application (in your applications folder), the iPhoto preferences ("your username" ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iphoto.plist) and all receipts with iPhoto in them ("your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts)
Install from your iLife 08 disk or the systems restore disks that came with your computer (install bundled software option or click here for MacWorld's instructions.

I want to take the photos off my iPhone and put them directly onto an external hard disk - I don't have any room left on my computer. I want to bypass iPhoto altogether. When I link my iPhone to my computer, it only opens in iTunes, which only gives me the option to save my photos to iPhoto. Help!  This is seriously frustrating!.
Additionally, I'd like to be able to take the 2000+ photos out of iPhoto and put them on a disk in a folder. I have managed to export them to the hard disk but it's just plonked all 2000+ photos in a list - not ideal if I want to use it for anything else. And then I have to manually delete the photos from iPhoto. Is there not a quick and easy way of dealing with this?
Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks for your help!

I too would like to be able to do this. Just put them where i want the. IFTT a scripting app will put the images in dropbox for you , but its been pretty iffy.

    Thx

You don't really delete app that way, that way to stop backup for that app in icloud.
You need to delete it from your home screen and then while it still will look like download from icloud - app will start fresh.
However if app uses any account sign in the stuff that is attached to sign in will come back, so if you do not want to you need to use
    fresh account as well.

i want to reinstall os X yosemite on my macbook Air but i erased the hard drive and i cant get the local recovery option; only internet recovery; is there any way to go back and get local recovery option?

    Hi Bockworld1,
I'm afraid you did an error when erasing your hard-drive, this has automatically erased the "local recovery". In order to pass-by this, you must use a former Mac OS X installation DVD (such as Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and then when updated to 10.6.8 you may access the Mac App Store to recover the Yosemite Installer and proceed to a fresh "update" OR creating a Bootable USB Installation drive with DiskMaker in order to alway get a installation copy.
I also suggest you to create a USB Basic Operating System (you must select a local USB device to install Yosemite or whatever OS you want) with only the base operating system to launch your computer in case of Main Operating System issues.
Given the amounts of issues reported by users with 10.10.2, I command you to download 10.10.2 version to get a stable OS working.
Let me know how it is going.
    Good Luck.

  • How Do I Reinstall iPhoto after Upgrading to Snow Leopard

hi, I recently did a clean install to Snow Leopard on my macbook Pro. Everything went smoothly other than apparently I need to add the iphoto back on to my mac. I DO have the original discs 1 & 2 that came with my macbook pro. Would someone be so kind as to walk me through how I would reinstall iPhoto, iDVD, etc. I have read some posts that say use disc 1 others say use disc 2..... so I am confused and don't want to do anything incorrectly. THANKS a million.

  • Trying to reinstall iPhoto 6 after multiple crashes

After numerous crashes of iPhoto 6 (and reporting crashes to Apple via the pop-up box until my fingers fell off), I finally decided to back-up all my photos, delete and reinstall iPhoto 6. To do so, I did a spotlight search for anything with iPhoto in the name and then deleted all items I could find. I finally came down to a Library6.iphoto file, but when clicking on the i button in spotlight, only a dashed line ghost rectangle appeared. It had no location name, the date created and modified was Dec. 1903 and other useless information. How can I get rid of this program, that is says is still present, but I can't find it anywhere to delete it. I dont' want to re-install iPhoto 6, with this ghost running around.

    ExpressMan:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I've gotten those ghosts files from time to time and they haven't given me troubles. Here's what I recommend:
1 - launch Disk Utility and repair disk permissions and verify the disk.
2 - be sure all files with iPhoto in the file name are out of the HD/Library/Redeipts folder if you haven't already done so.
3 - install iPhoto 6 and then run the following updaters in this order:
    a - 6.0.4
    b- 6.0.5
    c - 6.0.6
I suggest you downloade them from the Download page (see the Download button at the top of this page) and run them from your HD instead of Software Update.
4- run Disk Utility again and repair disk permissions.
Also be sure you're running Quicktime 7.1.5.
Restarting your computer may get rid of that ghost file. But I wouldn't worry about it.
    Do you Twango?

  • Reinstalling iPhoto 6.0.1

Have had ongoing thumbnail issues since upgrading to iPhoto 6. Thought iPHoto 6.0.1 would fix problem. No. From day 1 of upgrade, iPhoto kept asking to rebuild thumbnail cache. 95% of way thru, iPhoto would crash.
Now having problems with garbled thumbnails. Have tried rebuilding thumbnails. After many crashes, tried deleting data & thumbxxxx.data files and then rebuilding the library. After many crashes, was finally able to rebuild thumbnails, but thumbnails still do not all match up to original picts.
Am trying hard to avoid recreating library since I have 7500+ pictures and most of them are commented.I don't want to lose my comments, albums, or photo books. (Apple TS's only advice was to back up originals, delete library, and reimport. Obviously they have never had a 7500+ photo library fully commented. I don't have 2-3 "spare" days to recreate my library. I have a busy life with 3 young children!)
So I am going to attempt to reinstall iPhoto 6.0 from iLife 6, then upgrade to 6.0.1.
What files should I remove first to ensure a clean install?

  • Reinstalling iphoto?

I couldn't open iphoto earlier and got this message:
"you can't open your current photo library using this version of iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto."
I hadn't consciously made any changes to iphoto and I thought I was using the latest version or one of them. I tried lots of things to fix this (see my post from earlier today). Now my iphoto library is empty and I don't seem to be able to import my backup photos on dvd back into iphoto. I can see them in iphoto, but only on the dvd folder (I gave it about 20 min to import 197 photos before I figured that it wasn't going to work) What did pop up in iphoto was about 100 seemingly random photos from various internet sites and mail along with some kind of error message. So I deleted them.
Can I wipe all the photos and corrupt stuff off my computer and reinstall iphoto, in effect, start from scratch? Do I use my iwork disc or my OSX install disc? Can I do this for iphoto only (and leave the other applications as is)?
    Thanks,
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
I think, but am not sure, that I gave you this info:
So far I have not seen any solution for that error message in these discussions. If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
    these are the steps:
    Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop and choose it.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.
Did you follow those directions yet? If not, why not?
Now, what is on this DVD? Is it a DVD you burned within iPhoto so it is mounting within iPhoto in the source column?
If that is what it is, do this:
    Close iPhoto
Drag the old iPhoto Library folder to the desktop and rename it old-IPhoto Library.
    Go to System Preferences/CD/DVD
Change the preferences to have Finder open or "ask what to do" when a Picture Cd/DVd is inserted into the computer. I have yoy do this so iPhoto won't open when the DVD is inserted.
Now insert the DVD and double click it on the desktop.
There should be an iPhoto Library folder inside it.
Drag that folder into your Pictures folder.
Rename the folder to iPhoto Library
Launch iPhoto and it should open that library.

  • Can i uninstall iPhoto 9.4 and reinstall iphoto 9.3 from time machine and will my photos still be there?

can i uninstall iPhoto 9.4 and reinstall iphoto 9.3 from time machine and will my photos still be there?
    Janet

Did you try to repair your library after the update to 9.4?  Here's what you can try:  make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If the above does'nt work and you want to go back to iPhoto 9.3 read this tutorial from  iPhoto Library Manager's website:  Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • Reinstalling iPhoto (or other preinstalled apps).

Weird thing; my iPhoto and Garageband that came preinstalled have just decided to stop working suddenly...
There must be a way around this, but the only solution I can come up with is deleting both apps then reinstalling them from the App Store.
However, I want to make sure that if I do this I wont have to buy the apps i already purchased with my Macbook Pro.
If I delete and reinstall iPhoto and Garageband, will I have to rebuy them in App Store?
    Thanks in advance.

If you bought your mac after Lion, all the pre-installed apps are in the app store under purchases. Mine are there and I have a macbook pro. If you bought your mac before this feature started, you received two disks with the computer: Mac os install disk and application disk. Your iphoto/garageband.. are located in the application disk.
