Want to restore to factory settings but update to Lion as well

Hi techies....can you help me?
My 2009 MacBook pro is still great but is starting a to chug along a little bit.
I want to restore to factory settings (I have the disks) and would then like to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Problem is I purchased Lion through the App Store when it came out and I now get an error message when I try to restore to factor settings with my install the disks because my OS is newer than the one of the disk.
Part II of my question is this....I backed everything up on my time machine today so does that mean if I restore to factory settings and upgrade to a new OS that I'll still be able to access all of my old files from time machine?

You could try making a bootable USB key with Mountain Lion, and bypassing your original OS.

Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. Nothing. The message means you MUST restore your phone to factory settings. There's no way around this . Your phone is in recovery mode. That's the only way to get it out.

All the apps that I have downloaded are "waiting" and whenever I try to sync apps on my computer with my phone, the apps section is greyed out and won't allow me to do anything. I have tried restoring to factory settings but it didn't work.

yep, unfortunately can't reset without the passcode either.
With regards to doing a restore, do you mean:
open itunes on my computer
click on my device on the left
go to the device summary
click restore
it then asks if i want to back up before i restore (to which i say no)
then it asks me if i'm sure I want to restore to factory settings and that all of me media and data will be erased and replaced with the newest version ( to which I say yes)
then it takes about 90 mins to do this but when I look at my phone, everything is exactly the same.
Am I missing something? Obviously I'm technologically challenged, but I HAVE to get to the bottom of this!

Apple, as I said, does not repair your iPhone. All hardware service issues are handled by replacing the unit. So they can't handle the home-button issue without also addressing the issue of the cracked screen, for which they'll almost certainly charge you. But you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple tech support and plead your case.

The phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it. The hack did damage that is now preventing it from being able to activate at all.
It may or may not be fixable, but we can't help you with it here.
If it was misrepresented by the seller, file a claim with ebay and get your money back.

FYI, your iPad will charge much faster if you plug it directly into an electrical outlet.
When doing the reset, as Jackkcc suggests, make sure you let go of both buttons fairly promptly after the apple image appears, then wait another 10 seconds or so for the iPad to start up. Note that a reset does not alter any data or settings.

I recently got a hand-me-down Macbook (white) 2010 and want to restore to factory settings. The computer did not come with any discs. It is running 10.6.8 and I purchased 10.6.3 recently to upgrade my MacBook Pro. Can I use that to restore the MacBook?

I want to give the hand-me-down to my kids so they will stay off my MacBook Pro I'd like to start fresh with the MacBook, remove all the former owners information, restore it to factory settings, but it did not come with any installation discs, so I don't know what to do. I recently purchased Snow Lepoard for my 2008 MacBook Pro. Can I use that to restore the MacBook? Also, the former owner purchased Microsoft Office (ugh) with the computer but again, no installation discs. How do I keep that when I restore?

I purchased a mini to HDMI cable and tried to connect to the TV but the TV is not recognizing the computer. I attempted to set sound and display settings under the "my Preferences" utility with no success. Again, I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my OS software Any Suggestions?

My MacBook has been acting very starnge lately and I want to restore it to factory settings, but I no longer have the install disc (at least I don't think I have). I'm currently on 10.6.8, if I upgrade to Lion will I be able to do a restore somehow from that? Does what I'm asking even make sense? This is all a bit too technical for me, but I'd like to give it a go.

I've added ios6 to my new ipod but tried then to restore the factory settings. It won't extract any settings and the itunes then tells me that the server cannot be reached or is unavailable. I've been trying all day. Now the ipod has a itunes sign and a computer lead pointing towards it on the screen and this is frozen. It won't switch off or do anything else. Any ideas as this is now driving me crazy.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I want to give me old iphone 4s to my son and restore it to factory settings/
i cannot remeber my passcode so i followed instructions on apple assistance which tells me to try doing it through itunes.

Create new Account
blue apple > system preferences
clicks on accounts icon
click on lock icon if locked.
enter logon password
click on + icon ( left side of screen just above the lock icon )
after creating new account, you need to logout of your current account.
blue apple > log out ... current count name ...
log on to new account. see if problem goes away.
if it has gone away rename finder preference ( Not sure of name ) ... reboot.
