Want to Save CS6 to CS5

Hi, I have some files in Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign that I wish to be backwards compatible with CS5.
I'm concerned more about my Illustrator files at the moment.
I'm not sure how to save as a CS5 file or if there is an automatic way to make it compatible overall.
I am on a MBP.
Any more questions, please post.
Thanks.
-As far as I know for Photoshop, it's under Preferences, General, File Handling, Maximise PSD Compatibility: Always.
Is this correct?

I found this on another forum, but is there a more permanent solution to this?
So I don't have to Save As everytime?
Aka I want to save everytime and not have to worry about compatibility issues.

To clarify your answer for Illustrator.  The option is not in the "Save As" dialog box.
The correct answer is
Open you CS6 Illustrator file.
File>Save As
The Save As dialog box opens
Type your file name (DIFFERENT THAN ORIGINAL PLEASE!) and the Save as Type is still going to be Adobe Illustrator (*.AI)   **This is where the above instructions threw me, as the Save as type drop down does not list anything about versions to save fo)
Click Save
Once you click Save, the Illustrator Options dialog box will come up.  The first option is titled Version and has a drop down menu.  Select the version of illustrator you want to save your file as here, then click ok.
Your done.
I strongly suggest you give this file a different name than your original CS6 Illustrator version as you may lose some parts of your design in the conversion.
Hope this helps.  Enjoy!

  • How to save CS6 as CS5.5

    hello all,
Can you advise how to save a CS6 document to be editable in CS5.5 (particularly Photoshop)? I have tried Save As and Export but have not discovered any options to do so.
    thanks,
    Berabby

You can't officially save PrPro CS6 project as PrPro CS5.5.
As said in the comment #2, you can open up PrPro CS6 .prproj file in a script editor (e.g. Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit) or even a text editor (preferably, which respects formatting, but doesn't add its own formatting) and then in the fourth line replace Version="25" with Version="24":
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <PremiereData Version="3">
        <Project ObjectRef="1"/>
        <Project ObjectID="1" ClassID="62ad66dd-0dcd-42da-a660-6d8fbde94876" Version="24">
Keep in mind that everything is at your own peril, and new PrPro CS6 features can't be converted (properly interpreted) to PrPro CS5.5. Some changes in GUI can even cause a crash, as described in the comment #6. To overcome crash issues you can rely on a good old trick of importing a project into a project (i.e. create a brand new PrPro CS5.5 project and import into it the one, within which you replaced Version="25" with Version="24").

  • CS6/Yosemite: in Safari when opening a PDF and want to save the pop-up is english while the system language is german

    Hi,
I installed end November last year on my new iMac the CS6 Master Collection. The language and country ist german. All menus and titles are correct. In Safari (8.0.2) PDFs are shown with Acrobat instead of the preview. When I want to save the PDF the pop-up window where to save the file is in english instead of german. How can I set it to be displayed in german?
All menu-items are german, clicking the floppy-symbol will open the shown window. The list-items on the left side are in german but all labels, buttons and titles are english.

If you are printing to physical printer from Safari : Use Reader print button from Reader toolbar
If you want to save a PDF from Safari to your local : Use Reader Save button from the Reader toolbar.
PS: if you have PDF in read mode the  hover the mouse at the bottom of the page and the floating Reader toolbar will appear.
Please let me know if this solves your issue.

  • CS5 Existing File, Wants To Save As New Document

    Hi,
We are working  in CS5.  When I open an existing document (either CS4 or CS5), make a change and save, ID allows wants to save as a new document.  How can I change this?
    Thanks,
    Barb

    Too simple!
    Many thanks,

  • CS6 overwriting CS5 and can't get my actions, etc.

My actions aren't backed up as an action file, they were just sitting comfortably in my CS5..
I have installed the CS6 beta and it has taken over CS5, I am now unable to open anything in Photoshop CS5 as it goes directly into CS6.
I have lost my actions and I want them back, as well as my other settings. How do I get these back?
ALSO, the magnification zoom drop down box that was at the top of CS5 (25%, 50%, 100%, 200%) does no longer exist. Is there a way to get this back? I use to use this frequently!
    I am on Windows 7 64-bit
    Thanks!

The actions and all your other preferences are still there in CS5.
If you want them in CS6, you'll have to save them and copy the files, or use the migration script.
And "taken over" - do you mean that double clicking on a file opens CS6 instead of CS5?  That's normal for MacOS and Windows - the last one installed wins for double clicking.

  • Cannot save with phothoshop CS5 or CS5.5

Hi, since I upgraded to Mountain Lion i can't save any photoshop CS5 or CS5.5 to a mounted volume on my mac. But I can with CS4 and CS6. Do somebody has the same problem as me?

As a policy, Adobe ceases updating older releases once a newer version is released.
That says there will probably be no patch forthcoming to make the operation of Photoshop CS5.x any different.

  • The disk copy of "File_Name" was changed since you last opened or saved it.  Do you want to save anyway?

When saving a Photoshop CS6 file I am suddenly getting this message: "The disk copy of “File Name” was changed since you last opened or saved it.  Do you want to save anyway?" I am not connected to a network and I had not downloaded any new software when it started. How do I fix this? and will this cause any file corruption? -Thanks

Chris, thanks. Yes, I realize that something outside of Photoshop is modifying the file but how do I find out what is causing it or how do I stop it? I had not added any new software or upgraded anything when this started and I have never had this problem before. I don't use any font managers. I do have a virus barrier but, as I've said, I have had this software for awhile and can't imagine why all of a sudden it would be interfering with my file. I spoke with Apple to see if the problem might be on their side but they seem to think my Mac is running fine. My biggest concern is will this cause my file to become corrupt? Before closing out yesterday, I created a new document and copied everything from this file over into the new document and renamed it in the hopes that it may help... Maybe something was wrong with that original document. Not sure that will work but will find out today. Also, I haven't worked on any other files since this started. So, I'm not sure yet if this is happening to this file only or if it may happen to future files. -Thanks

  • Do you want to save changes to...

This is the most annoying dialogue in the entire CS6 suite.  Premiere doesn't ask me if I want to save changes every time I select a different clip.  Why does Prelude?  After logging 100+ clips, it really starts to wear at you.
I hope this gets a few other users to submit a feature request on this one.

Thank you for submitting the feature request. In the meantime you can manually save the clip you have modified (Cmd-S/Ctrl-S) before opening another clip to avoid the dialog.

  • Is it possible to use a file from CS6 in CS5.5

I'm hoping to buy CS6 but I use CS5.5 at college. Is it possible to bring a file from CS6 into CS5.5. If not, where can I get CS5.5?

PS files are backward compatible if you save them with maximum compatibility enabled. likewise, AI files can be saved back to older versions. Of course in both cases specific features from CS6 will be lost or rasterized to pixels, so they are not editable in CS5.5. In Design might be a bit more tricky. It supports saving back to CS5.5, but this may completely ruin your documents, if you use the new dynamic layout features, Arabic text etc., so it's less useful to go that route.

  • Cropped a jpg and did a "ctrl s" to save it but everytime I do, it wants to save as a .PSD, why?

Trying to crop a couple of hundred images.  Was using CS2 to do it but then I thought why not use CS6 to do it.  Opened a jpg, cropped it the way I wanted and did a ctrl s to save it, only to find it wants to save it as a psd.  Not cool.

Perhaps it's because you may not have "Delete Cropped Pixels" checkmarked if you use the Crop Tool in CS6.
Your background layer then turns into Layer 0, a floating layer, and cannot be saved as a jpeg, so PS saves it as a psd, becattuse that format supports floating layers.
How, where would one do that?  Checkmark the "delete cropped pixels"?  My background layer is turning to a Layer 0.
    Thanks!

  • Can I install Production Premium cs6 over cs5?

running Windows 7 on 64 bit system.  I'm read you can have both versions of Photoshop at the same time, but do I want both versions?  Ditto for Premiere Pro or Encore ...  Thanks!!

yes, you can have both versions.  to determine if you want both, install cs6 and, if you don't find any use for cs5 after some period of time, uninstall it

It's not offline.  It's been working for others. I don't know how to tell you to get the updater working, but I can point you to a manual updater package for the latest Camera Raw for Photoshop CS5: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5373 (PC)http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5372 (Mac) -Noel

  • Downsaving, Backsaving, or Legacy Saving CS6 to CS5 Rasterization (a bug)

I have this image that I've created for a client in Adobe Illustrator CS6 on WIndows. Their designer has CS5.5 on a Mac. The image contains the following:
    Multiple artboards
    Inner Glow
    Layer transparency
    Transparent Gradients
    Strokes on gradients
    blends
    multiple clipping masks
When I try to save the file back to CS5 I get a rasterized image in an Illustrator file instead of what I'm expecting. Has anyone else had this problem?

    What's really happening:
The problem is the strokes on the gradients because that's a new feature in AI CS6.
    Work-around:
When I expand appearance on the strokes on the gradients in CS6, it makes the gradient strokes into mesh gradients (not completely desireable or intuitive. However when I and save back to cs5 format it opens as expected in CS 5.5.
Original: If you have to do this, you can still adjust the thickness of the now expanded stroke (technically a mask over a gradient) by selecting the path and using object path offset path.
Correction: The option to use offset path is not the same as it would be on a mask containing a gradient. If the stroke is of a complex shape (eg. a stroke with rounded tips containing a gradient.) it will more than likely have to be redrawn to preserve the appearance.
Suggested work-flow: If you know something will ultimately be saved back to a different version
    Suggestion for Adobe:
Because the PDF interpreter in the older version of CS5 doesn't understand the new feature it throws an error. If you copy from CS6 and paste to CS5.5 it will show you the error, then CS 5.5 expands all of the editable features in the file. What should happen is when someone saves back to CS5 from CS6 in the plug-in it should expand appearance on all strokes that contain gradients to be an outlined path container for the stroke with the gradient as the fill. Converting to mesh gradients is highly undesireable on spot color images.
