Want to sell my Mac ...

I want to sell my Mac air 2012 to a friend, but want to erase my credentials..I have no important files on this Mac but would like to give him with a clean install. I re installed mountain lion like someone suggested however it's still asking for my Apple ID on the restart...what can I do to have the original set  up where he can enter his own info..please help.

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall  the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.)
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • HT201065 What do i do if i'm running Yosemite and want to sell my mac?

Hi guys, i'm running Yosemite. I'm selling my macbook pro and want to know how what to do to get my mac ready to sell.
There does not seem to be instructions for Yosemite on the apple post: What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support

No. The basic instructions are the same; if desired, you can append the last three characters of its serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page. Doing this will reveal the computer's original OS and a lot of other information about it.

  • Why would I want to Sell my Mac for a Pc?

Many things frustrate me in both worlds but the number one thing is the performence of the computer.
I have put up with it for too long, if anyone has any last minute ideas now is the time to share.
It has always been fast in horsepower under the hood, but getting around on my Mac is slow. I pay $3000 for a machine I don't want to have to wait.
The worst is web browsing, in any browser it takes a few seconds to load each page even when pressings the back button, unlike windows where I can just click and things are instantly there.
Opening a simple program like text edit or a PDF reader I get the stupid spinning disk for a second or 2.
Things that are suppossed to work just for Mac even suck, even the calender is slow esp when dragging the length of a task on a given day you get the spinning disk for a few seconds.
i Movie u think it could import a file without freezing up....
I bought the computer for Audio and I can't even record anything cuase I get crackles (And I know what I am doing when it comes to computer audio)
Ironically I use bootcamp to run my audio.
Now is it just my computer that is slow or do all Macs suck this bad.
PLease any ideas why for 2 years I have had to put up with this crap.
Ok I am done my ranting and raving...

i have a very first generation MBP (2.0) and while it's no speed demon when compared to the current crop of MBPs, it does pretty well. I use it for audio as well. I use Logic Studio 8 and Garageband and have anywhere from 4-32 tracks going at any given time with many plugs and no audio issues. I use a Focusrite firewire audio interface. all works well.
Now, all this being said you need to get to the core of your performance issues. Here are a couple of "low hanging" items right off the bat.
First, upgrade to 2g RAM. You always want to max your RAM if you can and the fact that you have 2 different DIMMS means the RAM performance could be suffering.
Second, check your HD and make sure you aren't close to running out of space. A good rule of thumb is to have ~10% free disk at any given time. It's fine to go below this from time to time, but not sustained.
Third, make sure you don't have any unknown processes eating up resources (CPU, RAM, etc.). You can run the activity monitor to see these, or run "top" from a shell. Top gives you more detail and will sometimes show things that AM doesn't, but you have to be comfortable with the shell.
if all of these things are ok and you still have problems then you might want to look @ doing a re-install (archive and restore). You don't need to move to Leopard. The performance on my MBP was about the same for both. Leopard has tons of bug fixes that are worthwhile though (airport issues, etc.) but it won't help much (if at all) for performance and as you said, their is always the "third-party" driver issue (btw, this is the reason i moved away from Protools.. those guys were slooow on the uptake when it came to new releases).
The MBP (even my 2 year old model) is a great machine. At some point i will upgrade (waiting for the magic 3.0 clock speed) but mine performs very well.
    hope this helps.

  • HT1420 I want to sell my Mac computer and transfer my itunes to another computer that already has a itunes library. Can I have two separate itunes accounts on one computer?

Also I was wondering how do I clear my computer of all the items like back to factory settings?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  If you try to sync it with a new or different iTunes library, it will erase what is currently on the iPod and replace it with what is in the new library.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

i want to reset my mac to sell but i don't have the original cd how do i do it?

    Only manually.
Create a new Admin user, then boot into that user.
    Then delete your user.
Then you need to uninstall or delete any software programs that did not come stander with your computer, or that you are not selling the disk with it.

  • My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to lion and want to sell it with Lion

My mac originally snow leopard I upgraded to Lion and want to sell it with Lion ,can I do this?

In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended.

  • HT3910 I don't have my disk's and i want to wipe and then sell my mac

I don't have my disks but i want to sell my macbook pro. Can i erase remove and just plain wipe every thing without them?

If you upgraded the computer's firmware to use Apple's Internet Recovery system, you don't need the disks. Otherwise, phone Apple and order replacements.

  • I want to sell my MacBook, please read and help

I want to sell my MacBook (1.83 GHz) to my roommate and buy the next model up (2.0), which was out of stock at the store when I purchased it. I bought this model because I was leaving for Japan in a few days and needed the laptop. I bought the MacBook in September of this year.
    Here's the problem. Well, problems.
I live in Japan. I'm in the Navy. Will I be able to get a hold of Apple tech support to find out what to do?
I've never sold or bought a used laptop before. Is there a way to "transfer" everything of mine to my new one, and then erase it from the old one, making it like new for my roommate?
I just got the Protection Plan in the mail for my MacBook. Does this expire? I had a 90 day plan when I bought it, I now have the three year plan still wrapped in its box. Can I save it to use on the new laptop, or does it have to be used on this one? And if so, can it be put under her name? Or, should I just send it back for a refund and buy it again when I get the new laptop?
How do I change all the licenses and usernames and such so it becomes "her" laptop?
Not as important as the others: Should I wait until Leopard is released to purchase the new one? When will that be? Or does it really matter.
I know these are tons of questions, but I need them answered, and it's difficult to find time (and money) to call tech support. I'm such a noob at this, as you can tell from my questions, but.
I appreciate any and all help offered!! THANK YOU!
    Cristina
I can be contacted by email at [email protected]

    Hi Christina,
Visit apple store in Japan area to talk with one of their apple guy.
You can transfer your previous macbook files to your new macbook using firewire connection:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2333.html
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773
For transfering your apple care, Iread somewhere it can be done but with additional fee that almost half of apple care cost, if that so, I recommend leave the apple care for her and get you another one. But if you never open or register that apple care to your macbook, then I guess you can use it for your new macbook (call apple care to make sure about that).
AFter you transfer your files, it is safer to do format and re-install your old macbook os x so it wipe all of your old information and she get the "fresh" one.
Leopard might be released on 2007, when? Nobody knows for now but estimated within first quarter of 2007.
If you and she can wait, then wait for it .
Otherwise you might spend another $129.99 or so for new Leopard.
    Good Luck.
ps: it is not recommended to put your e-mail on this or any open forum for you might get tons of unrelated e-mail sent to you.

  • Just got a new MBP and I want to sell my old one.

The email I got from Apple says they will give me $500 for my 3 year old MBP.  I have a lock set but I do not remember how I did this or how to remove it, but when I want to make a change with the time, for example, I have to insert a mastercode.  it is the same code when that brown/beige lock comes up. It only shows up at different times when I am trying to make a change. The company that will take my computer neds all locks removed.  It does not show up when I want to make changes to System pref.  Does anybody know how I turn that off because the company who will buy the old MBP needs this master pasword/lock turned off.
any suggestions on how to turn off the lock or set it so it does not show up anymore?  I think I found it under System Pref.---Security---Uncheck "Require a password..."  The locks are still there but so far the ones I have gone back to look at are unlocked.

This is just the standard user password for your account. If you've forgot it, there are various ways to reset it, depending on which version of OS X you're running.
If you want to sell your old machine, take a look at Thomas Reed's How to prepare your Mac for sale.
If you need help on resetting your password, post back with your OS X version.

  • I want to sell my MacBook Pro-How do I find the exact model number?

    It's late 2011 i7 15 inch and the specs I pull up show 2.4GHz MacBook Pro (MD322LL/A)
Except that i'ts when I click About this Mac it shows:
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Serial Number  C0**********W47
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
    It also gives this info:
    Processor and memory
2.2GHz or 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 6MB shared L3 cache; or optional 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache and I know it's this and 750 GB SATA Disk
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB
Basically, I'm wanting to sell it because I just don't need such an expensive Mac and I hardly ever use it. I bought it new in September 2012 and it's in mint condition. Since it was a model year behind, I only paid $1899.
I have the box but I'm out of town so I was just hoping to figure out what I want to do. I still have the original receipt, it has Office University (or whatever it's called) and a Magic Mouse.
Any ideas of where/how I should sell it? I usually use Craig's list but I don't think that's a great idea for this item. Also, how much do you Apple experts think I should ask? I'm addicted to my iPad 2 but it's on iOS 5 still because it's, well, you know...I like to configure my displays and icons and be able to free memory, etc. so I mainly use it. Thanks for any help! Much appreciated!

    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

    Carrie,
the information that is provided by About This Mac is accurate. What you have is a CTO (“Configure To Order”) variant of the MD322LL/A; thus, referring to it simply as a “MD322LL/A” does not uniquely identify it. I would recommend describing it as a “2.5 GHz 15-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pro with 4 GB of RAM and 750 GB HDD”, so that the buyer knows exactly what you’re offering. Make sure that the box, the other original accessories that came in the box, and the original receipt are included with the MacBook Pro; picky buyers (like me ) appreciate receiving all of those constituent components.
Note, however, that according to the Mavericks software license agreement, that because its installed version of Mavericks was originally downloaded from the Mac App Store, its copy of Mavericks is non-transferable; you will need to erase Mavericks and its recovery partition from the MacBook Pro’s internal disk before selling it. It would save the buyer some time if you would also perform an OS X Internet Recovery to restore its original Lion onto its internal disk before the sale.
To get an idea of what you should ask for it, take a look at online auction sites to see what other 15-inch Late 2011 MacBook Pros are selling for. You are likely to find more 2.2 GHz and 2.4 GHz models than 2.5 GHz models like yours, so you could add a premium of some amount to whatever the more common models are going for. If you live in an urban area, Craigslist could be used to sell it, as long as you and the buyer can agree on acceptable payment terms; finding a willing buyer might be more difficult if you live in a rural area.

  • Want to sell my iPod Mini but i have lost the CD and need to burn one

Hi i want to sell my iPod Mini but i have lost the CD that it came with. Is there anyway that i can download what was on it and burn it onto a CD for the person who buys it? If that is possible i would appreciate if you could link me to what i would need to download for both the Windows and the Mac.
    Thanks

That is correct, you do not need to give them any disk. They can download the iPod Updater (something they might not already have) and iTunes (might already have it), both more recent versions than came with the iPod, from iTunes.com.

  • Want to sell my MacBook Pro & upgrade

Can anyone suggest a buyer for used MacBook pros? I want to sell my current one at a reasonable price and upgrade to the newer model. Also, any word on when a newer version of MacBook Pro will becoming out? Should I wait?

Try selling it on Craigslist or eBay. No one but Apple knows when new hardware is going to be released.

  • I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM. CAN YOU USE A EXSTERNAL CD ROAM ON A MAC?

I WANT TO BUY A MAC BOOK PRO. MUST I WAIT FOR THE ONE WITH RETINA DISPLAY. WILL THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO CD ROAM BE A PROBLEM? CAN YOU USE AN EXSTERNAL CD ROAM WITH A MAC?

Apple will gladly sell you a color coordinated and texture matching external SuperDrive to go with your Retina'ized MBP for about $80 bucks.
Note that those models are completely sealed with no serviceable or upgradeable parts inside. So if you decide to bite the bullet, be sure to customize its guts to your heart's content from the get-go as no further change will be possible. This means CPU speed, amount of RAM and size of the solid state drive. Other external options, like the Superdrive, can be added later.
