Thanks! So you have a pizza box already ... what more do you need.
Googling:
setup ftp anonymous solaris 8gives a few examples .... assuming you want/need automous ftp.
In particular this one seems about right:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Solaris/Solaris_FTP_Server_Setup
.... Othrs know better than i do.
... or looking at it you may merely need to do: "inetadm -e ftp" for your purposes. Dunno for sure .. dont do solaris 8 anymore ... do like pizza bozes though.

  • HT1430 I want to set up a new apple ID on an old I pod

How do I assoicate a new Apple ID to my Ipod touch?

Go to Settings>iTunes and App Stores and sign out and sign i with the other ID
    Note:
    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
Also ther are some other places that are assocated with the ID:
    Settings>iCloud
    SettingsMessages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime

  • I just bought a new macbook air and i want to set it up with a new apple id. Can I delete my old one?

I just bought a new macbook air for college and I am currently setting it up. I have had a long time apple id as a kid, but I want to set up a fresh, new one for this computer. However, the email I want to use is already associated with my old apple id, can I delete this account completely to "restart"?

No, that is not possible as well as not preferred. If you setup a new Apple ID your previous purchases, downloads, etc. done with the old Apple ID will not longer be available unless you re-purchase them using the new Apple ID.

  • My husband and I have upgraded our phones (iPhone 4s and iPhone 5) to the iPhone 5s.  We have given 2 of our kids the "old" phones and want to set them up as an iPod touch.  Both kids have email and need to be able to text (iMessage).

My husband and I have upgraded our phones (iPhone 4s and iPhone 5) to the iPhone 5s.  We have given 2 of our kids the "old" phones and want to set them up as an iPod touch.  Both kids have email and need to be able to text (iMessage).
I have read multiple posts on how to do this and I am still confused.
    Apple ID/ICoud:
We want to be able to monitor what they do, but do not want their devices linked to our emails/contacts/etc...  Each kid has their own email account.  So, from what I have read the best way to do this is to use our family Apple ID, but set them up with a separate iCloud account?  Is this correct?
    Reset/Restore/DFU:
To start fresh we have done multiple factory resets.  I did one that someone said was a DFU and a plan ol' factory reset, etc...  Not sure the difference.  However, when I do that I get the "hello" screen and am able to start setting the phone up anew.  However, when I go to set the phone up as an iPod I end with the same result.
So, here is what I am doing (tell me what I am doing wrong):
    Hello Screen
Asks me to select language and selecting:  English
Select Your Country or Region:  United States
Choose a Wi-Fi Network:  select my home wi-fi network
Enter password:  entered my home wi-fi network password
Activiate iPhone - wants me to enter Apple ID and Passwordsays that this iphone is currently linked to an Apple ID (k*******@gmail.com).  Sign in with the Apple ID that was used to set up this iPhone.
Location Services - I have enabled location services
    Set Up iPhone
    Set Up as New iPhone
    Apple ID
Options are to sign in with your Apple ID or Create a Free Apple ID
Or I could "skip this step"
I signed in with my Apple ID
    Terms and Conditions - Agree
iCloud - I can select either to use iCloud or Don't Use iCloud - I selected use iCloud
Find My iPhone - I can select either to use find my iPhone or to not - I selected use find my iphone
Once I do this it says iMessage and FaceTime and shows the following:
    my email
my other child's cell phone number
and my husband's work phone number
This is where things do not make sense.  I only want the phone set up with the current child's email address.  Where did I go wrong?

There are a number of Apple services: iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, Game center, Find My iPad, etc.
Now, to share apps, music and books you need to have the same Apple ID:
iPad's Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID > Your purchasing Apple ID.
For the other service, your wife should have her own Apple ID.
All she needs is a valid e-mail address, apply Apple ID below:

  • How do you set up ftp services with outside of network access?

What are the steps to set up a password protected directory for our clients to ftp files to?
I've turned on ftp services and created a testftp directory, with access to everyome, but can't access the files. It never asks me for a password.
We have AT&T dsl service. The connection goes to a Linksys router and on to multiple switches. Each of our users have assigned static ip's.
    Thanks for the help,
    Chas

The Mac OS X Server Security manual has a discussion of setting up ftp and the share points and related. Here's the [Tiger Security|http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/TigerServer_Security_Config021507.pdf] manual, and here's [Leopard|http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/LeopardServer_Security_Configv10.5.pdf].
If you'd prefer a description here rather than the manuals, what follows are the basics.
I'm here assuming you have a firewall between the Internet and your server; a firewall attached to the DSL modem. If you have an external static IP and an internal private (192.168.0.0/16, 10.0.0.0/8, etc) via NAT, you'll need a firewall with reasonable port-mapping capabilities. If you're static and public throughout, you need only poke holes; you probably don't need the port-mapping stuff. (Or you could have a direct connection to your Mac OS X box; I don't usually configure things that way.)
First, open your firewall and allow access via the ftp ports (port 20 outbound and port 21 inbound, typically) and open up the ephemeral port range.
Then create a user and directory via whichever service you are using -- Workgroup Manager, Open Directory or otherwise. Within Workgroup Manager, you can set up share points; basically locations that the ftp daemon is permitted to touch.
Then wander into Server Admin and enable the ftp server.
Now if I wanted to do this without exposing my cleartext username and cleartext password over every hotel and coffee shop LAN I might use (and I'm not kidding; "ftp security" is an oxymoron), I'd create a username and its directory per your usual means, use Server Admin to configure and launch sftp daemon, and open up port 22 at the firewall. In my experience, sftp is easier to administer, and operates with ssh and with PKE authentication, and it doesn't post your password to Craigslist -- and beyond discussions of the (lack of) security, ftp tends to be somewhat fragile; it really gets into trouble traversing firewalls.
Given my experience with ftp over the years, here is [why I don't want to use ftp|http://64.223.189.234/node/530] -- sftp is just so much easier to deal with, and to secure.

  • Really weird problem setting up FTP in Dreamweaver MX 2004 for Mac.

I'm new to Dreamweaver for all that I've had it for years. Been using GoLive. Using Dreamweaver that is part of Studio MX 2004. I'm trying to set up FTP. Tell Dreamweaver to Create New Dreamweaver Site. Name the site. Don't use server technology. Pick the folder where I want my files. Tell it I want to use FTP to connect to my server. Give it the name of the host server. Tell it which folder I want to use for my files on the server. Here's where it gets interesting:
When I type the url for the folder in the field, as I type "html" it draws a strike through the "l" in "html".
I've tried typing the url in Text Edit, then copy and paste into the field. I get the same result as if I had just typed it in the field.
Deleted and re-installed Dreamweaver by itself. No difference.
Deleted and re-installed everything associated with Studio MX 2004. No difference.
Ran TechTool to see if there might be a disk problem but that came back fine. Have not run my anti-virus, ClamXav, yet. Don't have any anti-spyware software.
Running Mac OS 10.4.11 on an iMac G5 iSight.
I know just how oddball this problem sounds and I realize that I could use Fetch or Cyberduck but I would like my software to work. Anybody have any ideas?

Wiped and re-installed my computer. Now that part of Dreamweaver works. Some bug somewhere that's now been eliminated. Now it has a new problem that I will ask about in a new thread.

  • Help with setting environment variable on solaris 10

hi, i am new to solaris. i have solaris 10 x86, and as root user, i installed jdk 6 into /usr/jdk/jdk1.6.0_20. now i want to add the path /usr/jdk/jdk1.6.0_20/bin to my path variable. also i want to set JAVA_HOME. but each time i do this, and close the terminal, it resets. i mean when i echo $JAVA_HOME, i get nothing and if i echo $path, the address i aded is no longer there too.
what can i do to make this permanent. and do i have to set it for every user, or will the one set by root, be seen by all users?
    thanks.

Assuming you're using tcsh, then I typically place my environment variables in my .login.
You can also place them in your .tcshrc file.
    Use
    setenv JAVA_HOME <path>
    for tcsh.
For the Bourne shell, you can put them in the .profile file.
    Use
    JAVA_HOME=<path>
    export JAVA_HOME

  • I purchased a used macbook pro and want to set it back to original factory settings

I purchased a used macbook pro and want to set it back to original setting

What to do before selling or giving away your Mac
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Setting up FTp with PureFTP

    Hi
I am trying to set up FTP access so that my Lab can download files from me. I have read a post (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=449518&tstart=75) regarding almost exactly the scenario that I am attempting which was resolved successfully, but I am still having troubles.
    I am running 10.4.6 on a G4 933. I have a Linksys WAG54G router.
I have attempted to set the ports as per the instructions in PureFTP but seem not to be getting anywhere.
A friend that is attempting to log in to test it for me gets a password and username dialog bos but it just dissappears and nothing happens or, another friend just gets a message saying that the info is not correct.
I have tried disabling the Mac OSX firewall and with it going, and it seems not to make a diff.
Can anyone walk me through it from start to finnish?
    Thanks very much
    Craig

Let's make your G4 ready to tango:
    1. Drop TextWrangler (you downloaded earlier) in you Applications folder and Open it (don't check to install the command line tools, you won't need 'em)
    2. From Text Wrangler-->File-->Open Hidden navigate to the /private/etc/ directory and open hosts file. You'll get a message that hosts file is owned by root, click yes to edit it
a default hosts file looks like this:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
    3. Add the IPs of your computers and the name(s) you wan to call them (same as SystemPreferences-->Sharing), for example:
    # Host Database
    # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
    # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.168.1.1 router
    192.168.1.5 michelle
    192.168.1.6 Left Machine
    192.168.1.7 G5
    255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
    ::1 localhost
Separate IP addresses from computer names with a "tab" not space. Also, unix doesn't like spaces between names so 192.168.1.6 <tab> Left Machine gives 2 aliases for the computer @192.168.1.6, one is Left and the other is Machine. If you want one name for each computer use "-" (i.e. 192.168.1.6 <tab> Left-Machine)
Be careful not to delete any of the default lines
    4. Save your hosts file (you'll be asked for your Admin password),
    5. Open Utilities-->Terminal and type: lookupd -flushcache (press Return)
    6. Reboot the G4
Doing the same for each of your Macs will only make things easier for you and your network. Just make sure that you use the same computer names (or just copy/paste the contents of the G4s hosts file to the rest of your Macs (do not drop the hosts file itself to the /private/etc folder in any other Mac(s))
Hmmmm. manual....may have to go looking for that one.
You can download a manual from Linksys support page. I see 2 versions of the WAG54G (Version 1, Version 2).
Now, what you need to do is to let your router allow computers outside your LAN talk to your FTP server (G4). This process is called "port mapping" or "port forwarding".
So log in to your Linksys router via the its web interface, go to Applications & Gaming-->Port Forwarding-->Port Range Forwarding and enable the following TCP ports: 20, 21, 989, 990. Make sure that all of them point to your G4 (192.168.1.5), check Enable, Save Settings and you're done.
FYI here are the FTP TCP ports and their names:
    TCP 20: FTP Data
    TCP 21: FTP Control
TCP 989: FTP Data over LS/SSL
TCP 990: FTP Control over LS/SSL
    For example:
    Application: FTP Data + Control
    Start: 20
    End: 21
    TCP/UDP: TCP
    IP Address 192.168.1.5
Keep your firewall(s) turned off for a while till we make sure that everything is working as it should.
At this point, networking-wise your LAN is configured like the big boys, and it's ready to rock...
    Finally, about PureFTPd:
What do you want to share via FTP (a folder? an entire HD?)?
Have you setup PureFTPd yet? (Accounts, folders etc)?
Go through PureFTPd documentation again to learn the basics. Since your server will be accessed only by people you know, don't bother with anonymous users, just create accounts for your colleagues.
Let me know how your PureFTPd setup goes...
PS, I see that you are in NYC, been to the new Applestore? I love the glass cube design.
No, not yet, I'm currently doing a project in Berlin/Germany. It looks nice but I wouldn't go in the first days, I don't like long queues

I have been given permission for unlocking my iphone 3 GS from Orange. I want to set up the phone for my wife to use with a new number and carrier. Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks

  • I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time  Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on  what other external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and  how to configure that disk

I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time
Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on
    what other
external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and
    how to configure that disk.
A complication that I need to resolve is the fact that I am using Vmware
Fusion to be able to use Windows on my Mac. Now it seems that Time
Machine is not backing up my files
on that virtual Windows without additional configuration and my question
is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
    the Fusion virtual machine.

If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas  series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it.

  • Want to set Min Max for a material for PD MRP type

    Hi,
I know Maximum stock level field in Material master MRP 2 view ? but where do i maintain minimum stock level? not procured?
My client wants to set up his inventory with Min Max levels using MRP PD?
    Thanks and Apprecaites help.
    Regards,
    Siva

    Hi,
If you want to maintain a Max and Min stock level, Maximum stock is shown straight away, you cannot find the Minimum field directly.
if you want to use MRP type PD then go for safety stock that will be your minimum stock level
or else use Re-order point planning, re-order point will be your minimum and Max-level as maximum.
    Thanks
    Satya
