Want to setup windows8 x64 on "GPT file system"

when trying to setup windows8 x 64 And try to format the c: drive
an error message appears say" this is GPT system file".. and installing stops.
what is the problem ?

My windows8 x64 crashed when I merged a small unlocated area from the disc and I tried to recover it from a recovery partition exist on the laptop hard disc but I don't have a recovery disc or usb tool , I tried F11 with many options but it didin't work but I still have the recovery partition on my laptop hard disk.
I tried to install windows8 from DvD but when I delete the C: partition and start to format it, an error message appears " can't format this disc it is a GPT file system".
but I stil have the partition recovery on my laptop hard disc.
I don't know how to recover the original system or install a new one.
my brother bought this laptop from KSA for me and I live in Egypt.

Troubles with GPT file system

Hello everybody,
i got a motherboard MSI 760GA-P43FX
and i experience the following issue:
i bought a SSD disk KINGSTON SSDNOW 120GB, trying to do a fresh windows 7 installation (64bit) on it.
Later, i need to install the TRUE CRYPT to encrypt that SSD harddrive,
unfortunately, the WIN7 formats the SSD disk with an EFI (GPT) file system again and again,
and the TRUE CRYPT does not support GPT file format only the older MBR.
I red plenty of stuff on this issue, some people who got lucky and bought other motherboard
can choose between EFI and old MBR (Legacy) when booting from the DVD drive.
Unfortunately, i could not find any option in my BIOS to disable the EFI
or on the boot-up to choose non-EFI booting from DVD.
(i red somewhere when i would be able to choose the older non-EFI booting from DVD when installing the WIN7,
the WIN7 will automaticaly format the SSD with a MBR which is what i need.)
Please dont tell me i need to buy another MB, the funny thing is, i bought the same motherboards,
installing the same system, all is the same, SSD, CPU, RAM, everything is the same,
but on my 2nd machine i am just not able to go through the EFI issue.
On my 1st machine i have installed everything properly, SSD works fine with the true crypt,
all is fine! I assume the version of BIOS could be different or i dont know.
Anyway, I wont use any HDD bigger then 2 TB so i dont need any EFI file system.
I am desperate, can anyone help?

Welcome to Apple discussions.
Do those applications open from the application folder? If they do:
Try trashing a preference file and restarting (com.apple.dock.plist).
If that does not help, drag the icons that do not work off the dock (poof sound). Then go to the application folder and drag the appropriate icon to the dock.

Setup Guide for Integration of File Systems needed

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am very new to the SAP Mobile Documents topic, and I am about to setup my first instance now. In my first Mobiles Documents instance I need to integrate a windows fileshare as a repository.
I know there are two possibilities in integration a windows fileshare, one that uses a service account with full rights to access the share and one where the permissions of the current user is used.
I need to integrate the share with the usere permissions, so that the users is only able to see the filese and folders where he has the proper rights.
Is there any step by step instruction for this?
Any hints/ideas how I can start that integration?

I want to setup multiple computers/devices with one user

I have multiple computers, Macs and PCs, and two iOS devices; iPad and iPhone. I want to setup my server as a file server for all devices with me as the only user. I'm having trouble finding that scenario. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I found a lot of information beyond the basic instructions for configuring the WebDAV before turning it on. But unless there's a way of using the server to store files instead of iCloud or Dropbox, there isn't a real need for connecting the iOS devices to my server. Again, thanks for prompting me to "read the manual".

Want to be able to mount file systems in my computers at home

Hi,
I have 2 apple computers , a mac pro and an ibook and I want to be able to mount the file system from one to the other to transfer files. What software do I need to do this?
I suppose I could use an FTP server just to transfer files is there one for free?
Or if I actually want to mount the file system , what do I need?

As sig said, firewire is a really good way to do this. It is one of the easiest and fastest and most painless ways to do this.
If it is not so convenient for you to tether up one computer to the other via firewire, if the computers are on the same home network, enable personal file sharing (Sys Prefs > Sharing > Services) in at least one of them. Then you should see it on the other computer when you do ⇧⌘k in the Finder. Double-click on it and its icon should mount on your desktop. Open it, then drag and drop the files. If on the same home network and you enable ftp or remote login (Sys Prefs > Sharing > Services again), you can do it from the command line, no extra software required.
If they are not on the same network, e.g., one is at work and the other is at home, this can still be done fairly easily and fairly painlessly in a hack-proof manner by tunneling your file sharing port through secure shell. If you want to do it that way, that's a bit more involved to initially set up, but really not difficult to do. Post back if you want help doing that.

File system used space monitoring rule

All, I'm trying to change the way OC monitors disk space usage. I don't want it to report on nfs filesystems, except from the server from which they are shared.
The monitored attribute is FileSystemUsages.name=*.usedSpacePercentage.
I'd like it to only report on ufs and zfs filesystems. I've tried to create new rules using the attribures:
FileSystemUsages.type=ufs.usedSpacePercentage
FileSystemUsages.type=UFS.usedSpacePercentage
FileSystemUsages.type=zfs.usedSpacePercentage
FileSystemUsages.type=ZFS.usedSpacePercentage
But I don't get any alerts generated on system which I know violate the thresholds I've specified.
Has anybody successfully set up rules like these? Am I on the right track? do ufs/UFS/zfs/ZFS need to be single or double quoted? Documentation with various examples is non-existent as far as I can tell.
Any help is greatly appreciated

It seems like OEM12c has file system space usage monitoring setup for nfs mounted file systems, however I could not find a place to specify the threshold for those nfs mounted file sytems except root file system. does anybody know how to setup threshold of nfs mounted file systems(Netapp storage)? thank you very much

i am using solaris 10 on x86 machine. i'm using 2 hard disks. i installed solaris in one separate hard disk. now i want to mount my windows FAT 32 file system to my solaris.it is installed in another hard disk. any one can help me to use windows file system in solaris.
And i also know how to configure internet setting in solaris.. that is where i can enter the IP address ,Access point name. because i'm using internet using my PDA that is connected to my pc. please help me...

How do you install a file system on an empty partition?

Hi. I'm running 10.3.9 on a B&W G3. I've formatted a 100Gb drive with a 40Gb partition on which Panther is installed (and which is running even as I type) and several empty partitions. I was going to install OS 9 on one of the empty partitions, but Disk Utility doesn't seem to want to let me do install a file system on an empty partition. Hence, the OS 9 installer can't find the empty partitions, and therefore can't install.
Is there another way to put a file system on an empty partition?

One suggestion: if you can't figure out how to put a file system on the empty space, you could clone your current partition to an external drive, re-partition the internal drive drive and then clone the external back. Like John, I've heard of utilities that can re-partition a drive without erasing your data, but I just can't imagine using one if I didn't have a clone anyway. So that's what I've done when I want to change a partition size.

Java IO on top of a second file system layer

I have created a second file system on top of an existing file system, and I have java executing Java and Python(Jython) how would I get the IO they use to link to my file system and not the OS' file system?

Are you suggesting that you have created something like windows shared drives or windows condensed drives?
Because that is the only way you could create a IO system on "top" of an existing system. And if you have successfully done that then you do not need to do anything to java/python except 'point' them to the new location such as using a driver letter for a windows shared drive.
On the other hand if you have a bunch of java/python applications and you want to implement some other sort of file system then you would need to modify the virtual machines and the APIs of both of those.
And regardless all of the above WILL be a lot of work.
Now if you have some idea to implement a library that is useable (not replacement) for java/python apps then you

That solution requires a lot less work. Although certainly more than a trivial amount.

DME file CLIEOP03 in file system

We want to create the DME in the File system of SAP. On the variant of RFFONL_I I selectioned the option to create the CLIEOP03 in the file system and gave a file name.
When testing it we face a serious shortcoming: the suffix of the file is always '01' resulting the file always being overwritten. In cases with different vendors and thus different payment files, the result is always 1 file being written to the file system.
Anyone had the same problem?

Hi,
You are using the clasic payment program.
When you use the DMEE workbrache it is no problem to get the file on file system.
The program SAPFPAYM is then used for creating the payment file and there you have the option Output to file system.
With new implementation you should use the DMEE you never know how long the old clasic programs will be supported.
When it is a new implementation perhaps it is even better to start with the SEPA format

Writting documents to data base or to a file system?

I have this facility to write documents to the database. The DBA wants to change it to a user file systems.
What is the best practice? Where can I find documentation about it?

With java it is quite easy and you have lot of example in th JSP/Servlet code that explain how to upload from the browser to a file system.
Within PLSQL it is different since it is running inside the DB so you'll have to use output package to put the content of the blob in a file.

Wich file system is recomended for an usb key? [SOLVED]

Hi. I have an 8Gb USB Stick (USB key or pendrive).
I will use it to store my backups and ocassionaly to move some files between PCs. I don't use windows so i don't need niether want compatibility, so i don't want to use FAT32.
So, wich file system is recomended to use on an usb key??
Should i use ext3, reiserfs, xfs, jfs??? or maybe ext4???
Has any of them any implication with the lifetime of the usb?

Implementing a remote file system to use with JFileChooser

What I want to do is create a virtual file system so that I can browse through it with JFileChooser, select a file, and then take the correct action. If anyone has something like this that they can post it'd be much appreciated. Otherwise, does anyone have any advice about creating a navigation tool for traversing a vertual file system?

It appears that some people have indeed created some graphical FTP clients incorporating JFileChooser capabilities. The first entry on the search (and a few others) appear useful.

Best setup for a non-Mac file server?

I have a dual xeon server, with a SATA RAID5 I want to use as a file server in a cross-platform environment.
*What I've tried and the issues...*
At first I considered using Windows 2003 (Win2k3) but Services for Macintosh (SFM) is an older version of AFP and thus only supports 31 character filenames. With all our Macs supporting SMB/Samba/CIFS and Apple touting that "Macs and PCs can co-exist harmoniously on the same network" I figured I would give that a try.
SMB doesn't work.
Sure I can create a connection, but transferring files is a completely different story. I'm trying to backup application and system data, but companies such as Adobe and Apple have named some of their files with special characters that can't be transferred over SMB. I know NTFS doesn't support these characters, but I though a Linux box using SMB would work fine. It doesn't. It's the protocol which keeps me from transferring the data. I end up with the lovely error message of "You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long or contain invalid characters for the destination..." (what's sad is, if you google for " because their names are too long or contain invalid characters for the destination" you only get 6 results.)
So I thought I would give NFS a try. Apple says "Viewed from Mac OS X, [connecting via NFS] is just like connecting to an Apple or Windows server." No. It's not. NFS shares don't even show up in the Finder's Network listing. There are also a pile of other hurdles which are only tackled by savvy, command-line using users.
So that leaves me with AFP. Win2k3 doesn't support filenames longer than 31 characters, and Win2k8 is dropping SFM altogether. Off to choose a *nix flavor, but that requires Netatalk. It hasn't been updated in years, it has many bad performance reviews... and most distros have removed it. I can download and install it. Oh, but that requires I get the kernel source files. Then I have to create an RPM an that's not working... now I'm several levels deep in trying to figure out how to get Netatalk working and I'm not even sure it will work.
*What's the best setup for a non-Mac file server?*
FreeNAS seems promising, but it's in alpha/beta and they have all sorts of warnings regarding potential data loss. Sure there's ExtremeZ-IP, but I really don't want to spend $675 do something Apple claims OS X can already do. I can put just about any non-Mac OS on this thing... what's the best way to set it up so it works?

Rick may be right because although i didnt think of it before i tend to have notoriuosly long classnames for my php classes and i have used samba on occasion (when rsync is out of the question for one reason or another) and never had a problem. I use kubuntu (feisty at the moment )with an ext3 filesystem. if i have a chance this evening ill give it a try and see what happens.
You could also possibly use FUSE to use an ssh filesystem for the shares... i don tknow how that would figure in your back up though.
Also if worse comes to worse you could tar or dmg the the necessary files... just some thoughts.
Ill be interested to know what you end up implementing....
OH one last thought... Compile Darwin from source and use that as your server
