Want to share everything but messages, FaceTime and phone calls

My wife and I share our calendars and contacts across our devices. We each do have a separate Apple ID. However we've been sharing with the first main Apple ID all along including iTunes, iTunes Store and Apple Store. Now on iOS 8 her iPhone / iPad messages are showing up on the main computer and her recent contacts are showing up on my iPhone's multi-task page as if I had made contact with those who had texted her. If I try to take her devices off of the main iCloud account it tells us she will lose the contacts and calendars on her devices. We want only to share iTunes, Apple Store, calendars and contacts nothing else. How is that done?

If you don't want to share any iCloud data except contacts, turn off the other data in Settings>iCloud and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted.
To avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls, one of you needs to go to Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in using a different Apple ID. To avoid getting each other's text messages, do the same thing in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive.
To fix Siri, go to Settings>General>Siri>My Info and select your contact.

Hi. I just got my BB Tour and was wondering if there is a way to silence email alerts while keeping text and phone call ring tones active? I've tried adjusting the profile under Message Alerts section but it doesn't work. I've silenced everything but SMS text and Phone but I still get a ring tone whenever I get an email. It's annoying since emails come relatively often.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was confused by this as well, but it eventually just sorted itself out.
There was probably a reboot involved.
I do remember selecting "None" for the email alerts, and still getting them. Then, it was fixed.
If you haven't already, try removing the battery and rebooting. I know, it's the same lame suggestion for everything, but at least I offer hope that it's fixable.

You need to copy some files and your iTunes folder to the new computer. Do you have a backup of your old computer (or still have the old computer?) Was the old computer a Mac or PC?

When i drag and drop to my ipod it wants to sync everything, but if i make changes to the syncing options and apply it wants to sync it all to make it work. i have 12000 songs and takes two days to sync everything. is there an easier way to drag and drop

The first ever Sync of 12,000 songs to an empty iPod will take a while, but it shouldn't take two days.
Once all 12,000 songs have been Synced to the iPod, subsequent changes to just one album will result in a very short Sync time. That Sync will include:
the change to that one album
play counts on iPod updated into your iTunes Library
Smart Playlists updated: some complex Smart Playlists are not always updated by the iPod but have to wait for a Sync with the Library.
housework - in other words, behind the scenes tasks that we don't need to see.
Those subsequent Syncs do not sync every single song every time.
So, stick with Syncing. If the first Sync of all your songs is taking too long, try syncing part of the Library (say one or two genres) the first time, a further part the second time and so on. After all, with a Library that large, manually managing the iPod will be a source of torture.

Added iPad to share everything but now it doesn't work

I added my iPad 2 to a share everything plan this evening and was assured that it would be working tonight, and that I didn't need to do anything. The Verizon rep said it would automatically update. Now the iPad is showing on my Verizon account as activated, but the iPad is not working on 3G. I am really irritated since I need the 3G service to be working tomorrow. I have found a variety of things online from something about a sim card needing replacement (I didn't think the iPad had a sim car?) to having to reset my subscriber services, which did not work. Any suggestions? Really, really irritated since if it doesn't start working (all on its own as promised by the Verizon rep), then I have no Internet access once I leave house tomorrow.

Hello jaw81, I apologize I was unable to reach out sooner as I understand this was a time sensitive concern! Has the iPad started working at this time? Me, my sister, and brother-in-law all have our own ipods, but we want to share songs, but have different librarys. Is this possible? We are on one computer and do not want to use separate Windows XP accounts. Please Help!!

Well, to create a smart playlist go to file > new smart playlist and set the criteria for that playlist.
I wouldn't even use I smart playlist...that just makes it harder. Just create 3 normal playlists: one for each person, and drag whatever songs into the playlist of the person that wants them. You can drag one song into more than one playlist: it doesn't actually take the songs out of the library. The playlists are just directories that corrospond to your library. Then when you hook up your iPod, go to edit > preferences > iPod options and say "sync to selected playlists only" and choose your playlist for that iPod to update to. THen, when you add CDs, click and drag the songs into the playlists of whoever wants them. You can drag a song into 1 playlist and then into the second, and it will appear in both.
If you are dead set on using smart playlists, then you can set the criteria for "comments...includes...."Your Name" or "Whoever's Name This Playlist Belongs To" And then when you add Cd's, go to info and add the names of whoever wants that song into the comments box. Then they will automatically be placed into the correct playlists...but honestly...this is much, much harder. You should just use the clicking-and-dragging method instead. If my description of how to do that was really bad, just ask me, and I will be more clear.

You can reset the phone and it won't cause any problems or cause you to lose any data - Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears.
The other thing you should do is to reset your network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. You will have to set up your Wifi again, but that oftentimes clears things up.

i would not want to bet on nokia ever releasing a patch or update in the software to allow this function on this particular phone.
if you look at nokia phones over the years, they have added functionality like this across a wide range all at once, take for example timed profiles on symbian phones. these have only just been phased in.
i do not think it is a development cop out, more along the lines that nokia is a huge company and as such would have a huge effor in market research. if they didnt pick this out through their market researc, why spend the money adding it?
the comment on annoyance is entirely personal to me, as it is important to you - you may want to consider moving to a symbian (series 60) based handset as these give you a lot of expansion for this sort of need.

I've restored the phone using iTunes on my laptop and checked all the volumes are turned up and the button at the left hand Side of the phone is in the correct position.

Try inserting and re-inserting your headphones 7 or 8 times. Also try cleaning out the headphone jack in case of debris that might be interfering with the connection/disconnection.

Did you change your region settings recently? (if so, set it back to the region you had before)
Have you checked to see if your contacts are syncing properly in iCloud? (do the contacts match what you have online?)

How do I quickly turn off the notifications in ios 5 but still allow the phone calls to ring.

I am trying to learn how to set my Iphone 4 with the ios 5 to silent but still allow the phone calls to ring aloud. At night, I do not want to hear emails and text messages come through, but if someone calls I would like my phone to ring and wake me up. Can this be done easily? I do not wish to go into each notification section and turn off and back on. Hopefully their is a quick set point that would allow all notifications to be turned off and still allow the phone itself to ring.

hi Can you while the Power LED is blinking hold the power down don't let it go until the light disappeared.
Technically the Yoga13 should turn off while holding down the power. at least 10 to 15 sec.
I would suggest calling Technical Support if the above steps did not resolve the issue.
It's possible that when you turn on the system, it is not going to sleep but the blinking indicates failure.

Receiving texts and phone calls on new MB Air???

My new MBPro receives both Text messages and phone calls sent to my iPhone.
My wife has a new MB Air and is not getting hers.
What do I need to do to set her MBA up for those functions?
