Want to start DVD at menu - not movie....

I am using the 'Book' theme (old themes) for a simple project. I want the DVD when put in a DVD player to start at the first menu. It seems that no matter what I do, it starts playing the movie immediately and not go to the top level menu.
How do I do this?
thx

Sounds like you have the movie in Autoplay... Click on Map and see where it is.

  • Why does my IMAC super drive recognize data dvd's but not movies?

My 27" Intel Imac recently stopped playing dvd movies. The drive still recognizes data disks but not movies. When I insert a dvd movie the drive makes noises for 30 seconds then eject the disk.

Have you changed region codes on movies?  It will only change for a total of 5 codes.

  • Making a DVD that starts at the menu - not autoplay

How do I cut a DVD from iDVD that goes directly to the Top Menu? I moved a multi-chapter movie over from iMovie and then added some additional movies from the Media Browser and burned a DVD. It has all the Chapter information for scene selection. The problem is that when the DVD is inserted it immediately goes to the first movie. How can I get it to go directly to the Top Menu?
I know there is a selection to do this, or not, in Toast. I can't fine that selection in iDVD '09.
    Thanks.

Q:Are there detailed User Manuals for iMovie and for iDVD?
A: Indeed there are detailed user manuals for both iDvd as well as iMovie (and other apple software apps too).
It's called the Help Menu for iDvd. And it looks like this:
Just type in the subject you wish and hit return. There's also the "Getting Started" manual and Tutuorials for iDvd (if you scroll down a step or two further on the Help menu) that comes with the software and can be found on this forum if you use the search field to the right of this page.
And just as importantly there are countless web sites offering iDvd help and tutorials along with those already included in apple's own web site.
One of my favorite Help sites on the web are those offered by Ken Stone. As well as the daily wisdom and actual working knowledge offered by dozens of forum members like Karsten Schlüter , Fred Shippey, Bengt Wärleby , Beverly Maneatis , J Keller , Klaus1, Niel, Old Toad, and many others.

  • Want to save iM-HD "Project"(not movie) to DVD.Says to big.Dump songs/clips

I am finishing a photo project (900pix) in iMovie HD and have a magic Progue book on the iMovie HD..Found the part that shows us we can save the "project" as a project (Re-editable..Modifyable) ot as movie (done that on 2 drives)..Sadly,it would'nt do it..Says the project is too big "Dump un-used clips and tunes"..Done that..Still too big..
    (1) What are the secret commands to find how many gb the project is?
    (2) Can I split it somehow on the timeline & save 2 smaller projects?
    (3) My G5 has single layer, would a dual layer be the go?
    (4) If all else fails,do I have to dump it on a dedicated ext drive or get one of the new 25gb SL/50gb DL "Blue Ray" DVD burners..I want to be able to always come back and re-edit the project as the years go by..Only for family members..Nope! They don't have to watch it all in one go as I have made black screen dates/chapters for every year,so they can go straight to the year or period of interest.

  • Premier Elements 9 - DVD Main Menu not showing navigation highlights

    Hi All,
Apologies if this discussion / question appears twice. I seemd to lose the original and did not think it had been posted.
New to Adobe and just started using Premier Elements 9 for a basic DVD project.
I managed to work out importing, editing, transitions, adding soundtrack etc and got to the DVD Menu stage where everything seemed to come together.
Once i had burned to DVD i checked it worked on the PC which it did but when i tried in a number of DVD players, there was an issue with Main Menu marker navigation.
This project has a main and four scene menus plus an 'Extras' marker i added to the Main Menu pointing toward Stills..
On all the Scene menus, i can see a clear highlight dot move from scene to scene as i navigate with the remote, showing where I am as you would expect.
On the Main Menu however, where i have Play Movie, Scenes and Extras markers, there is no sign of any dot or highlight to tell you which of these you are currently on so its a lottery as to which you get when navigating with a remote from the Main Menu.
I am pretty sure this is user error and if anyone has thoughts of what i have done or not done when i set up the DVD Menu section maybe, i would very much appreciate it.
A little additional info is apart from adding the 'Extras' button to the main menu i imported a still image/Logo to show up in the middle of the menu screen and added a sound clip to the main and all the 'Scene menus.
Whether that has anything to do with it i don't know.
thank you in advance for any clues as to what i have done wrong.
    Regards
    psutt.

    Hi ATR,
My sincere apologies for not getting back to you sooner. This project has been above and beyond my day to day work as an integrator to the Post Production area and everything went a little nuts over the last few weeks.
I wanted to let you know that I was successful in the end, thanks to your input.
I ended up substituting the ‘Fun in the Sun’ with’ Memory Box’ HD under ‘Memories’ and this was the magic solution.
I got bogged down trying to lengthen rolling end credits and  lengthening a title plate that headed the Extras but I left as is in the end.
The main thing was the menus worked just fine after the change so I won’t go near Fun in the Sun again if I do another sometime.
I kept it to NTSC widescreen and it looked fine.
Many thanks again for your input.
    Kindest Regards

  • Want to go, it either does not nd I cannot correct the one letter.

New to iPad. How do you move the cursor back without erasing everything you've typed? When I tap on the place I want to go, It either does not move, or the word highlights in pink and I cannot correct the one letter? I also cannot get the first letter in a case-sensitive situation to come up as lower case, even using the arrow key. Thanks for your help!

If you press and hold the screen then after a second or two you should get a magnifying glass which should allow you to position the insertion point more accurately - you can then re-position it back to the end of your text by the same method. You should be able to change the case by pressing the shift/up arrow key and then typing the letter; if you go back and delete an upper case letter then the letter that you type in its place will be in upper case unless you press the shift/up arrow button before you type it i.e. the case will default to the last deleted character.

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • DVD Player will not Start Playing Disc Automatically...

I am not sure when exactly this feature stopped working... I have the most current version of the DVD Player program (App Version 5.0.1, Framework Version 5.0.3) and I have all the settings the same as I have always had (within the Preferences Menu: Player Tab: When DVD Player opens, start playing disc (checked) AND When A Disc Is Inserted, start playing disc (checked)...
Do I have any other configuration that needs to be set for this feature to work? The DVD Player works fine, but of course after I press PLAY and then I get the menu that pops up that asks me if I want to start the movie from the previous location, start the disc over, etc.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would try going to System Preferences CDs & DVDs pane, then set "When you insert a video DVD" to something else, such as "Ignore." After verifying that inserting a DVD does nothing except mount the disk to the desktop, reset it back to "Open DVD Player."
Sometimes, rewriting the preference file gets it working again.

  • Finished DVD doesn't start with opening menu

    Hi:
I burned a 15 minute film after composing it in iMovie, adding chapters in Garageband, and editing it in iDVD. All went well, and the final results looks pretty good.
However.....when I play the DVD, it starts at a different point, plays an inserted, small film I added as a "trailer", then reverts back to the main menu (the one I wanted at the beginning). I have looked at the "flowchart" in iDVD, of the film, and the sequence seems right: main menu: sub-menus with buttons (one of which is the "trailer").
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers.

    Hello!
The first thing you probably want to check is whether the DVD is clean or not. It may freeze when you put the disc in because it is having trouble reading it. So, first clean it off. Second, I would open up the DVD player application before you insert the DVD, and make sure the screen size isn't set to full screen, so you can see the desktop. Insert the DVD, and when it freezes, try clicking on the desktop and see if it can put the desktop in the foreground. You may get the spinning color wheel - let it sit for a while and see if it can fix itself. If it can't, press commandoptionescape and see if DVD player says "not responding" next to it. If it does, force quit DVD player.
If you can't get it to play with the above options, then I would try two more things. First, I would try a different DVD. If another DVD runs fine, then you can be sure that nothing is wrong with the computer and it is the initial DVD that is causing problems. If all DVD's freeze when you put them in, I would question whether the DVD application is working correctly; a reinstallation may be necessary.
Also, for added measure, why don't you go ahead and repair the permissions on your hard disk. You can do this by opening hard drive/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility. Disk Utility is a very powerful tool which allows you to perform many functions. All that we are interested in is the "repair permissions" function. On the left hand side of the Disk Utility window, you hard drive and volume will be listed. Select the OS volume, and under the +first aid+ tab select +repair permissions+. If you haven't done that in a while, you'll probably get a whole list of things that are repaired. Then, restart and try running DVD player again.
Hopefully one of these options works. Please let me know the results!

You can either run this file , go online to Microsoft's site for a fix, or manually fix it by following the instructions below:
    Manually delete the registry entries
Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
322756  (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/ ) How to back up and restore the registry in Windows
Note Before you use this method, uninstall all CD or DVD writing or recording programs. Deleting the corrupted registry entries might cause problems with any other CD or DVD writing or recording programs that are installed on your computer. Uninstalling these programs before you start will help you avoid any problems that removing the registry entries might cause. You can reinstall these programs after the problem is resolved.
This method provides step-by-step instructions for how to use Registry Editor to delete the following corrupted Registry entries:
    UpperFilters
    LowerFilters
Step 1: Start Registry EditorStart Registry Editor
Start Registry Editor...type "regedit" into the run box on the start menu.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
    Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only.
If you see the UpperFilters registry entry in the details pane of Registry Editor, go to step 6.
If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to "Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry."
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value?
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click LowerFilters.
Note You might see a LowerFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click LowerFilters only.
If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content is unable to help you any more. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Click Yes when you receive the following message:Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Step 4: Restart your computer
Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Help! Compiled DVD starts at wrong menu but fine in simulator

This is my first DVD Studio Pro project and this problem is frustrating: everything is perfect in simulator however when I Build/Format the image the DVD starts at a sub menu instead of the disclaimer set to autoplay.
As I inspected the log file while compiling, DVDSP thinks this particular sub menu is Menu#1:
    Starting DVD Build PVP_VOL1...
    Compiler Initializing...
    Precompiling Project PVP_VOL1
    Compiling VMG Information...
    Created 37 PGCs in VTSM1
    Created 5 PGCs in VTSM2
    Created 5 PGCs in VTSM3
    Created 10 PGCs in VMG.
    8 Menu(s) will be created...
    Compiling Menu PGCs...
    Compiling Menu PGCs...
    *Compiling Menu#1 (Season 2 Menu-2)...*
Menu#1 should be 'disclaimer' or 'title menu.' I have no clue why it chooses that particular sub menu during the build and why everything working correctly in simulator.
    Any ideas?

Could be that you set first play to be that menu (simulator may be inaccurate or you could have accidently set it to play a menu as oppossed to the beginning of the disc)
Is the disclaimer a track or a menu? Any scripts or straight jumps from one to the next? Which players are you trying this on?
Not that this should be an issue, but you can also look at the menu layouts it VTS view to see what order they are in as far as DVD SP is concerned. In other words if you move things around in outline view, the VTS may not change.

  • I want to start my Time Machine. I bought a Goflex Home which says it is compatible with my iMac but it refuses to download an update of the software. This means the Time Machine will not operate. What is the problem?

I want to start Time Machine. I bought a Goflex Home netwrork storage system, which says it is compatible with Imac. Each time I go online to try to get any updates, it always comes back saying Error. In other words, I can't start Time Machine because I can't get any software updates. Anyone else experiencing problems with Seagate software updates?

If you want to use Time Machine the Seagate software is unnecessary. The drive is probably ntfs format which is not for the Mac.
Manually preparing a new disk for Time Machine
If you want to erase a disk before using it with Time Machine, follow these steps:
Open Disk Utility (located in the Utilities folder).
Connect the disk if it isn't already attached.
In the left side of the Disk Utility window, select the disk you want to use with Time Machine.
Optional: If you want to partition the disk, click the Partition tab and select a layout. Make sure "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" is selected in the Format menu for the partition that will be used for backups. Click Apply.
    Click the Erase tab.
Optional: If you want to securely erase the disk, click Security Options to configure, then click OK.
    Click Erase.
After erasing, open Time Machine preferences in System Preferences and configure as described in the section above.
