Want to stop apps from spinning up external drives

I have found that Aperture will always try to spin up my external FW drive that I only mount at night for backups. Anyone know why Aperture does this or how to stop it?
As well, software update and Disk Utility also do this, but I can almost understand them doing it.

Disconnect the drive when it's not in use.
Don't want to have to do that either
I assumed but thought it might help someone who may be browsing through with a similar issue.
I will try the Aperture group too....

block your firewall for port 80/443 explicit and then open only required ports for your requirements.
For controlling internet access you have the need for proxy server. A free proxy server is SQUID

Like I said, I bought one of their inexpensive enclosures and now can use the hard drive just as a source for the files that are on it...my external drives are much larger and faster so I just plug that drive in when I need something from it.

I tried uninstalling the add on and plug in, but it is no longer installed as an add-on or plug in. How do I get the "new tab" request to simply open with a blank address in the address box instead of www.imesh.com.

Ok, I finally managed to get rid of it.
First I did the thing with the about:config but I flitered for imesh instead and managed to reset two thing but when I got to the keyword.URL I got the same thing as lolbabe98 did with the "An attempt to change your search engine or homepage was blocked."
Then I did a search on my C: drive for iMesh and discovered some things that hadn't been removed even though I had unistalled both the toolbar and the actual program. After that it worked fine and I now have a regular "untitled" tab when I open a new tab.
One last thing, when I tried to remove some of the files there was one that said it was in use, it was called datamanagerUI or something rather. The only thing I had to do there was to open Task Manager and kill a process called DATAMN~1 and I was able to remove it. Hope this helps.

This message occurs if disabling Backup for an app on your iOS device does not complete successfully. Wait a few minutes and then attempt to disable Backup for the app again. If you continue to receive this alert, contact iCloud Support for assistance.

Get an iTunes gift card & redeem that in iTunes. You can setup an App store account without a credit card, but to purchase paid content you need a payment method.
