Want to SYNC, not restore

Unfortunately, I plugged my iPhone into a work notebook to charge last week, and it synched with a blank Outlook calendar. It wiped all calendar entries *except* those for October, November and future months, and recurring entries like birthdays.
Tonight I plugged it into my home computer to sync with iTunes, but it automatically backed up what is currently on my phone. I tried to reset and restore, in the hope that it would give me a choice of dates of various back-ups that I could choose to restore from.
I have also done a back-up to iCloud several weeks ago (which I turned off to save battery life), but don't want to overwrite my October and November entries. Is there any way to synchronise the current entries with the iCloud back-up? Or is it restore-or-nothing?
If it's restore-or-nothing, I might still take that over losing all my calendar entries from the past few years. So how do I log onto iCloud without it creating an automatic back-up that erases previous back-ups?

Restoring is all or nothing.  Also, to prevent automatic syncing in iTunes in the future you can go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".  If you want to restore to an iCloud backup you have to erase the phone and go back throught the initial setup screens.  If you have any data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

    - What happens when you try to sync and restore?
    - If iTunes is not seing the iPod see if restting the iPod will either fix the problem or allow you to see it in iTunes so you can restore the iPod
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

    Hello, Five Ale.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can remove all music from your device by going to Settings > General > Usage > Music > Edit then the delete icon.  This will remove all music from your device.  The purchased media is already located on iTunes on the Cloud so you will not need to do anything further.

  • Syncing Notes 'On My Mac' to iPhone/iPad no longer possible...??

Since moving to Mountain Lion i am no longer able to sync notes that are 'on my mac' to my iphone/ipad.  This used to be controlled by iTunes (you simply check the box or don't).  This has worked as it should from from the beginning of itunes syncing.  Unfortunately now with Mountain Lion the Notes sync option has disappeared from iTunes.  Searching online it appears this is not longer possible with iTunes.  So my question is can notes now ONLY be synced with iCloud?  So any 'on my mac' notes will no longer transfer across devices with itunes or otherwise?  I have tried to turn of notes syncing in icloud and unfortunately whether i have iCloud notes syncing on or off the notes the 'on my mac' notes no longer sync (obviously when the icloud notes sync is on the notes from the icloud group/account do sync as they should.
So my question is simply around syncing notes from the 'on my mac' group across devices (this is because there are some notes i do not want to put on icloud but the question is also valid for any users that do not use icloud, as it seems if you do not use icloud you can not longer transfer/sync notes across devices).
    Thanks for your help

This is very confusing because this Apple support document seems to indicate it is possible to sync Notes through iTunes. But I have not been able to get it to work...
"If you want to sync notes with iTunes instead of using the over-the-air feature, disable Notes sync for the account using Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars or Settings > iCloud."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4191
UPDATED: Sorry I'm dumb... that comment I quoted above applies to 10.7, not 10.8. It's clearly stated in the support doc that Notes cannot be synced through iTunes under 10.8. Crazy....

  • How to sync Notes from Mac to iPhone?

    Hi.
First up .. is Notes supported in Mavericks as I see no specific forum here?
My question is How to sync Notes from Mac to iPhone?
I have lots of Notes written in the Notes application on my iMac.
All these Notes also appear in my iCloud Notes page via Safari. So far, so good.
BUT if I want to sync Notes to my iPhone (iOS 7) my iPhone settings tells me iPhone Notes is default and that if I turn on Notes on iPhone all my iCloud Notes will be deleted.
HOWEVER, I cannot see a way on my iPhone to set the default Notes to iCloud.
I am unsure if this is a OSX question or an iOS question .. but it is a NOTES question.
If you can help, it would be appreciated. Else I will ignore Notes on iPhone (as it seems from other Forums I cannot delete it).
C'mon Apple .. you are losing the ease-of-use mojo.
    Michael

These are fun, call apple care and ask for a senior advisor, Both Mac and ios can help. But I can't help you on here it's just too detailed. Expect to spend about 30 minutes with a senior advisor.

  • How do i sync note between my mac, ipad to my android device

Hello everybody! I have a question about syncing notes. I have new ipad, macbook pro and an android device and i really want to sync notes between them. Icloud sync and gmail sync work perfect on my 2 apple devices but it doesn't get on my htc, (i use gnote on htc, a application that synce with gmail). When i go to gmail.com to check my account, i saw all notes are there but it just doesn't get on my htc. So is there any resolution for this? Thank you !

Julian why do you need to so unbelievably rude about it.  Clearly he is just looking for help, and he understands that there is an issue with the google, and HTC, and as well as with his Apple products.  The fact is, he is using his APPLE MAC to create the note, so naturally he would come to an Apple forum to look for a solution, not to have someone with a god complex tell him to go somewhere else.  Get over your ego and maybe you can actually try to help him, and if not, then keep your remarks to yourself.  You wasted more time continuosly trying to tell him to go elsewhere when you probably could have spent half the time actually trying to help him.  Oh, and please do not bother responding to this trying to come up with any sort of excuse or telling me how I'm wrong or ignorant, because I truly do not care what you have to say.  Take care.
ngongja, I know it's been a year since you posted, but for anyone else that is having the same issues, there is an app you can get from the Google Play store called iNotes which syncs your Mac and iOS notes with your Android device.
    Hope that helps!

  • I upgraded to ios6 on ipod touch and after I completed a sync on my PC but I suppose it did not sync, because now it will not restore from a back up and wants to restore from another account that I have saved.  Can I some how restore from the apps?

I upgraded to ios6.1.3 on ipod touch and after I completed a sync on my PC but I suppose it did not sync, because now it will not restore from a back up and wants to restore from another account that I have saved.  Can I some how restore the apps to avoid having to pay for them again and having to recreate settings?

As I said, the backup that iTunes makes does not include apps (and music) if those items where not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you restored they will not be on the iPod.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • What can I do if my iphone4 is not turning on and itunes is saying "Session could not be started" when I want to sync it so I can restore my phone?

What can I do if my iphone4 is not turning on and itunes is saying "Session could not be started" when I want to sync it so I can restore my phone?

Hold down your on/off and home button until you see the Apple logo, but first plug your iPhone into a power outlet to make sure it has enough battery power.

  • IPhone 4 has to be restored every time I want to sync + Other ridiculous problems

    Hey,
I am on a Windows 7 (64x Ultimate edition) machine, and I own an iPhone 4 16gb, and pretty much 75% of the time I plug my iPhone in to sync it, it will get to syncing the files (whatever they may be, regardless if there are any new updates or nothing at all) and then it will say:
The iPhone cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified.
After this, i must restore my iPhone. From here, I then click on the latest backup and click restore. This is where it gets stupidly ridiculous.
The progress bar for the restoration won't move unless I click and drag the little restore box around my screen. It's as if the computer doesn't realise it's meant to be doing anything unless i'm physically dragging and dropping the window all over my screen. What the computer estimates to take about 3 minutes (I have never had it work propperly so i don't know how long it usually takes) will take me about 20 minutes of me dragging and dropping.
THIS IS THE MOST ANNOYING THING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
Once it is finished, it will disconnect for 10 seconds, reconnect and be fine. then i can backup the phone and sync etc. Sometimes when i connect to the computer it is fine and backs up and syncs fine, but the majority of the time it screws up (always in the same way) and i have to go through the process again.
If anyone could PLEASE shed any light on how i can fix this, it would be unbelievably appreciated, i've dealt with this problem for about 8 months hoping with each iTunes update that it would be fixed but alas it has not.
    Other info regarding iTunes:
I have two internal harddrives, C: and D:.
D: was my original harddrive (320gb so when i upgraded computers i moved it into my new one as a slave to a 1tb harddrive. I still keep all my iTunes stuff on my D: drive and have iTunes installed on C:.
My music on my phone is manually managed so no, it doesn't sync music when it plugs in; it only syncs new apps (+updates) and new photos.
If you require any additional system information then i am willing to post.

It's not a matter of me assuming to restore it, once the error comes up, the only next step I can do is to restore it. I can't access any of the iphones settings in itunes or anything, it's a mandatory restore. If I just cancel the sync (before restoring) and disconnect the phone, all my apps crash on opening: aka unusable phone. So I have literally no choice but to restore every time the error shows up if I want my phone to work.
I have no idea where I may have duplicate files as it doesn't tell me, so if that is the problem (which I don't think it is) then I don't know where I have to go to delete the duplicates.
And the duplicate file error still doesn't explain why leaving iTunes to restore the phone doesn't work and me having to drag the window around. I know it sounds utterly ridiculous, my friend didn't believe me when I told him either but then I showed him and he was as confused as I am. If I just leave the restore to do its own thing at it's own pace, it will loa maybe 20% then fail for whatever reason.

  • I bought my iphone 4 through ebay and its unlocked. the problem is that my phone does not sync straight away. I sync my music file through autofill. I want to sync ringtones but its not working

i bought my iphone 4 through ebay and its unlocked. the problem is that my phone does not sync straight away. I sync my music file through autofill. I want to sync ringtones but its not working.
I saw cidya aap so i m not sure if it was jailbroken or not before but it is back to normal settings.
My problem started when I tried to sync my music files. I pressed 'sync' all it says is waiting for sync start, preparing to sync and then waiting for the changes to be applied. but it does not sync at all.
I found a way to sync my music files through autofill but I really wanted to sync ringtones but its not syncing and I really wanted to put ringtones in my phone please help.

If you see the cidya app, your iPhone is hacked with the cutsie term for this being jailbroken. This also means all the built in security has been removed making the iPhone as insecure as an android device.
Restore the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup to get rid of that hacking garbage. If the iPhone has hacked to be unlocked, the iPhone will no longer be unlocked when doing so.

  • Why do I have to restore every time I want to sync?

    Apple,
I am SO frustrated.  This has been going on for YEARS at this point.  Every single time I download a new album of music and want to sync it to my iphone, it simply does not work.  It says the sync is complete, it shows all the tracks with a grey dotted circle next to them, and they NEVER sync to my phone.
There is plenty of space on the phone.
The only way I can get it to work is to completely restore my iPhone to NEW every time I want to sync a new album which is absolutely ridiculous.  Please help.
    Cheers,
    Kyle

Firefox isnt even available for the iOS platform, so this question is not related to Firefox.

  • I have changed computers and installed iTunes on my new computer. I want to sync my iphone now but the "sync" program indicates that it will remove all data on my phone and replace it with the newly installed itunes that does not have my information.

I have a new computer and have installed iTunes on it.
Now I want to sync my iphone but the new itunes on the new computer wants to remove everything on my niphone and replace it with what's on the newly installed itunes data but it does not have my data.
How can I sync the new itunes with my iphone and not have my phone data wiped out?
    Thanks,

There is no way to stop iTunes from doing exactly what it is designed to do.
The iPhone is designed to sync with one and only one computer.
If you have moved/copied your iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, then iTunes wiping your device is no problem.  You would simply sync and iTunes will put all the content back.
