Want to update 3 macs from OSX10.6.8 to 10.9.5

What I want to do is upgrade the OSX 10.6.8 on three machines (MacBookPro/3,5-early2008), (iMac/9,1-early2009), and (Mini/4,1-mid2010) to MAV/OSX10.9.5, or YOS/10.10.n. I have various/numerous Apple and third party s/w and related files that work well on OSX10.6 and I know some will need to be upgraded/replaced when I shift over, and want them to run under OSX10.9.5. I have set up an external drive with three(3) partitions on the Mini, and installed Mountain Lion(1), and Maverick(2), and left spare(3), to check the compatibility of all apps on the mini/OSX10.9.5.  I have found no significant speed difference for the apps that are compatible (I increased Mini memory to 8GB). I also noticed the restore regions required for ML and MAV.
I know that clean installs are preferable, but, in the past I have not had to do clean installs since no problems arose (backups were always on hand, just in case). However, ML and MAV require a 'restore area' which means to me that installation on the machines internal drive could require a clean installation. Question - is a clean installation required or not, and if not, what may be the limitations?
I have the original install disks for the three machines, so I can certainly set up external drives to transfer the existing OSX10.6 apps et al to, using Migration Assistant, or Time Machine backups. What I want to be able to do is to continue to use the current apps I have, with minor relocation, or reconfiguration of files.
Originally I thought I was going to have to move OSX10.6 stuff to external drives, because of the need by MAV for Restore area, and file optimization. My concern was whether the older machines would perform better, or worse under the more powerful MAV OSX. My tests on the Mini w/MAV external didn't indicate any problems, other than it took about three or four times as long to start up (FW800 external drives). One big advantage I was looking forward to was the 'sync all devices' aspect of MAV and OS8 (ipad2/touch/iPhone). However, I would welcome experienced advice on the questions, 'Would the machines perform better under the OSX(10.6.8) closer to their original OSX(10.5/10.6) on their internal drives and MAV on external drives, or would they perform just as well or better with MAV on internal and OSX10.6 on external?
I have followed discussions on similar MAV questions, and YOS - MAV seemed my better choice for now.

The point in reference, regarding an offer of something 'free' could be any kind of upgrade to software, a newer version of browser, an adobe flash player, a supported version of OS X from the Mac App Store, etc. With an Apple ID one can access the online stores from OS X 10.6.8.
So, one has to be specific, and also detail the computer configuration and specifications so as to help confirm what kind(s) of upgrade may actually work with the hardware vintage of the computer. The Model number, build series year, is it an Early, Mid, or Late (year) model?
These factor in hardware differences and what kinds of OS X version or other software may or may not work in the computer. Also, an upgrade of RAM may be needed for some software upgrade or system upgrade, to work correctly. While your computer may be unable to upgrade to Mavericks 10.9.2.
If too old, it may do OK with Mountain Lion 10.8.5, or maybe Lion 10.7.5. Some users with an older Mac prefer 10.6.8 if it works well and they have applications that run on there; older applications may not run on Mavericks 10.9.2... Or maybe the Mac won't like it. Make a backup before upgrades.

The iPad 1 can't run the newer operating systems. It'd be like trying to play a bluray disc in your 6 year old dvd player....it simply lacks the hardware to make the software run.
No suggestion about the camera, but given that Apple's attitude seems to be to focus more on the more mobile devices for photography (the iPhone and Touch cameras got features, the iPad and mini didn't), that is highly unlikely. You can tell Apple what you want, but you'd probably be money ahead to get a digital camera.
as to the photos, anything put on via iTunes has to come off via iTunes.Your main alternative would be to look for photo apps that offer file exchange that may give you more functionality.

  • I want to update Mac OS X 10.5.8 to Lion.

I want to update Mac OS X 10.5.8 to Lion.
I ask to help and it is detailed, step by step to explain that it is necessary to do!
    Thanks.

Instead of going to Lion which is no longer available I'd recommend going to Mountain Lion. Apple explains the minimum system requirements in:
    General Requirements
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory (4GB or more recommended)
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
    Supported
    Models
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
If your system can be upgraded, first backup using Time Machine or create a bootable clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner. Then call the online Apple Store and purchase a license of Snow Leopard (no longer availble unless you call Apple!!!!) then follow the instructions that come with the DVD to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Next upgrade to the most current release of SL which is 10.6.8 by clicking 10.6.8 Update Combo and following the on-screen instructions. After the update run Software Update to ensure all other apps are up-to-date and follow all the suggested recommendations! Next open the Mac App Store and purchase Mt. Lion and follow the on-screen instructions. VERY VERY simple  if you follow these instructions.

whats the size of ios7 if i want to update it from itunes?and what's better OTA or itunes?

    Whatsapp should work fine.
Doing the upgrade over iTunes will give you the opportunity to make a full backup of your phone first, and will most likely provide for a faster and smoother upgrade.   I'd do it that way, and will once I get home later tongith.

  • Using iSync to update Mac from mobile device one way (device to Mac only)

Is it possible to setup iSync so it only updates the Mac from the mobile device (phone, Palm etc)? The reason is I use my Mac for personal work but a Windows machine for business. I update my phone from the Windows machine (i.e. one direction down to the phone). I then want to use the phone to update my Mac (contacts and Calendar). So the phone becomes the intermediary to keep my Mac in sync with the work contacts and appointments.
I find if I use bi-directional sync then I end up with duplicates on the phone as the data is held in different fields in the Mac and Windows apps so they look like new contacts.

iSync cannot be used in the way you propose - it is not designed for that.
iSync synchronises (hence the name!) data between all registered devices. So, any changes made to any of your devices (Macs, phones, PDAs) will be synchronised to all other devices on syncing.
There is no such thing as a one-way sync.

  • How to update mac from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5 for quicken

    HI there,
I just purchased quicken and it states that I need 10.7.5 or higher for it to run.  I have 10.6.8 and need to find out how to update to the 10.7.5.  Thank you.
    Debbue

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

I need this to see the product quantity frm product for Available to Promise purpose.
    Pls help me out.
    Regards

    Tnaks Venky for your Reply.
I have written the exact workflow.
I have created the Custom Field as Product Quantity in Product. In Account record type related info I have renamed Asset as Product Purchased & added field Product name & Product Quantity(Custom Field-Number) as read only.I have aslo added the productID Field(renamed from row ID in both product & assest record type).
Product Name=A ProductID=123 Product Quantity=READ ONLY ---PQ & PID are coming from Product record type.Same way i want the Product Quantity field should come from Product Record type.
If i require Product A from Product record Type(Inventory) with 10 Quantity in Required Product Quantity as Custom Field then when i save the Information or as a Modified Information, the Product Quantity field shoul be automatically upadted with the Value provided in Product Quantity field in Product Record Type.

  • I want to update software from ios5.0 to 8.0 or better?

I want to upgrade from IOS 5.1.1 to IOS 7.0 or better.

If you have an original iPad, you cannot update. That is the latest iOS your device will run. If you connect your device to iTunes and check for update and it says your software is up to date, then that is what it is.

  • HT1443 i want to update my mac software

i want to update mac os x

If yours is a PPC (G4 or G5) Mac you can't.
If it is an Intel Mac read on:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • Updating data from PSA to Data Target

    Hi,
I just want to update data from PSA to data target.
There is a process chain running daily it will updating Master Data in to 0Vendor object. This process chain is updating only upto PSA not the data target. I just want to update from PSA to data target.
There is a update rule for 0Vendor but itu2019s not active at the movement and also it is not properly mapped with the 0Vendor.
Is there any other method which I can update data from PSA to Data target with in the same process chain.
    Thanks
    Ganesh

If this is BW 3.5, change the infopackage setting to load to data target as well.
This is a other w ay than using the update from infopackage.
if this is 7.0, Use the DTP to load from PSA(datasource) to Target.
Let me know if this helps.
    Thanks
    Sachin
