Want to Upgrade 27 eMac to Leopard via ARD.
How do I install an OS via ARD? I thought I need a .pkg but the Leopard install disc doesn't. If there is a way, and I'm sure there is, this would save me hours of installs...please help? I'm running a MacPro 10.5.6 and the eMacs are 10.4.11

AFAIK it can't be done via ARD - seriously think about it? Obvious question would be: How do you maintain the VNC connection when the client(s) has booted from the Installer Disk?
The best way to do this and if you have OSX Server is to use the NetInstall Service:

Once the image has been built, restart client macs holding down the 'N' key. Depending on the speed/bandwidth of your network all 27 macs should upgrade without too much bother.

You can install Mountain Lion directly without going to Lion first. Just be sure your system meets Mountain Lion's requirements. There are a few systems that are Lion compatible but not Mountain Lion compatible:

No, that 10.6.3 DVD is system specific to the MacBook Pro.
You need a Snow Leopard Upgrade > Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)

Want to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard and have questions...
I recently purchased an Airport extreme after my previous router/wifi unit went up in smoke. Had to use the PC with XP to set it up as the iMac has 10.4.11 and I supposedly need 10.5.x to setup the airport with the iMac. From reading the upgrade specs and system requirements, it appears I have no issue upgrading... just have to find a copy of Leopard. There in lies my question, as copies are no longer available from Apple (per what I was told at the store, and don't see them on the web), if I buy a copy off ebay or Craig's list, unless I can find a brand new sealed box.... do I take the chance of buying a copy that somebody installed, and now the serial number is registered and therefore is no good anymore? How does that work, is the serial number of the software registered to the machine serial number and once used, the disk is worthless on another computer? I realize that there are "family" copies and developer copies with what, 5 licenses and unlimited? What about the standard "retail" package, once it's installed it's worthless to anybody but the person that originally used it?
There is no serial numbering/registration. This is not Windows. You are on your honor.
You always take a chance purchasing from eBay and Craig's List in as much as most of these sellers do not know what they are selling and/or miss-represent the item. Can't tell you how many folks come here trying to install an OS unsuccessfully only to find out that they bought a machine specific OS version that the seller swore would work on their Mac. -

I just upgraded my eMac to Leopard and now my Mail application will not work.
It will start to load, but I never get a mail window and it won't accept a new account and will not "Quit" unless I "Force Quit" it.

Upgrade from Tiger to Leopard keeps on rebooting
Two months ago I bought the new iMac 2.4 Ghz with Max OSX Tiger.
Today I wanted to upgrade to the new Leopard with the dvd I received yesterday.
Everything went ok (I've chosen the upgrade function). When the system rebooted I got a login screen from Leopard and then the OS started further. On my desktop I received a message that my OSX was rebooted because of a problem with the installation (it gave me the possibility to "report" or "cancel"). But even before I can make a choice, a grey curtain comes over the desktop and a popup appears to ask me to reboot my Mac with the power button.
When I do this, the same thing as above happens.
I tried to reinstall the system by pressing the C during startup. But after reinstall the same thing happpens.
I checked the forum but problems with the only threads I find are related with a blue screen. This doesn't happen with me. The system starts up, but I keep on getting the screen to reboot the system.
Anybody with the same problem ?I just bought an iMac and got the upgrade to Leopard thru up-to-date. Using the standard upgrade, I couldn't log in, then was on the phone with apple for 7 1/2 hours, trying the archive and install (which crashed) and then I finally had to reinstall Tiger, then erase and reinstall Leopard. Now I'm having the same problem as you all, namely, Leopard will go black randomly and reboot. It's not like it's going to sleep or anything, it just dims to black and then starts up at the grey apple again. I didn't expect this from a brand new mac.

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc. -

In other words, FIRST UPDATE your system to 10.6.8.... 10.6.8 will install the MAC APP STORE on your computer.. SECOND.... Buy Lion from MAC APP STORE (you may need to create an Apple Login and Password). THIRD... Launch the LION installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Made sure to install ONLY THE COMPONENTS, don't ERASE your system before install. This way you don't lose your data (pictures, music, documents, etc.) -
I have a hdd from a late 2009 mbp. I upgraded from leopard to snow leopard to lion to mountain lion. Now I want to upgrade to a ssd. Do I need to purchase a new copy of mountain lion to go on my new ssd? If I don't, then what is the procedure to transfer mountain lion with my 4 user accounts onto the new ssd from the hdd?
I'm confused on if I can use the recovery hd on a thumb drive to install mountain lion on my ssd. Will it be pheasible with so many OS X upgrades? And then how do I get my user accounts onto the ssd from the hdd. Do I use migration assistant? Do I need to make a time machine backup first? Should I use something called Carbon Clone or something like that?
Thanks for readingIf you have a cable that connects and external HDD to the MBP, it will do. If it is something like this, an enclosure will not be needed for the swap:
An enclosure allows you to use your old HDD for storage or backup purposes. The cable will not.
Here are instructions as to how the swap can be performed using DISK UTITY. Substitute You cable for the enclosure in same:
INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
2. You will need a HDD enclosure. One with a USB connection will do. A 9 pin Firewire is better.
3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE. From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field. Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. Click on the 'Erase' button.
5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top). Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination' field. Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more. A Firewire will speed up the transfer. This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives. Start the MBP and you have finished the installation. The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram. Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion? What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible? Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense? I have an Epson R2000 printer. Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion? It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine. -

When I put the leopard disk into the drive all it does is make a weird noise and then spits the disk right back out. It doesn't do this with any other discs, only this software. Is it still possible to update this computer?

Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

I have a macbook air running on OS X 10.5.8. I wish to run on the new mountain lion. I realise that i am currently on leopard which means i have to upgrade to snow leopard or lion before i can get mountain lion. However because i am on leopard, i have no mac store and because i have an air, i have no disk drive. how do i upgrade to snow leopard or lion without these?
