Want to upgrade but don't know anything about this computer

I don't understand anything about computers so I'm not sure what model or make they're asking me to choose so I can upgrade.

That's an old Mac, which won't run much newer versions of Firefox than you already have. Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions. <br />Get it here: <br />

Sorry didn't know that the first step was just supposed to be "subject".
    So here it is again.

I have no idea what to do and after hours of searching none of what I found helps. I don't know anything about this stuff so please don't answer with "maybe this willl work, or maybe that."  I need a real answer please and I cannot find a way to actually contact Adobe. I also don't have a disk drive on this Mac. Thanks"
Also please feel free to e-mail the answer because I hate looking for these answers online. It takes me forever to find this section. Not that I have even even gotten a real answer.

    Hi Sonia,
While transferring Adobe from laptop to PC the licensing files got corrupt and the right way to use Adobe Applications is to install first as transferring from a different machine can give you problems.
You can try steps from this article if that helps otherwise you have to reinstall and manually delete some files , everything is mentioned.

    Hello,
There is no upgrade path available from Macromedia Contribute 3 to Adobe Contribute 6.5. However you can buy the latest version of Contribute which is 6.5 from the link mentioned below.

  • I don't know anything about Airport Express/Extreme

hello, i don't know anything about Airport Express. i'm wondering if anyone could clear up some stuff for me. first, what kind of stereos work with the AirTunes feature. i've got an old (probs 14-15 years old) sony stereo, but it works fine and a pretty nice, what are the chances its going to work? also i just got a new appartment, and i am wondering how i would set it up. thanks, i'll probs have more questions later.

your stereo should be ok, the analogue output from an airport express will connect direct to line inputs on the stereo
i'd expect every stereo ever made for the consumer market to work correctly
you can find more about airport express here...

In the general settings on my ipod touch 2nd gen, I do not have an update choice. Anyone know anything about this?

An iPod Touch at iOS 3.1.3 and that iTunes states is up to date must be a 1st generation Touch, not 2nd.
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_2nd_generation  and notice the diffference between the 1st and 2nd gen models.

  • What's the best type of anti-virus or spyware to use for cleaning up my MacBook Pro? I recently switched to a mac from pc, so don't know much about my computer yet.

I recently switched to a macbook pro from a pc, and am curious what type of (if any) virus protection or spyware protection to use for it.  I keep getting a message to Install MacKeeper 2012; but am not sure if it's worth paying for or not.  I'd like some advice on what would be the best protection for my computer.  Also, I recently had the new microsoft office installed; which has been having issues freezing up quite often when I use it.  I don't know if clenaing my mac would help with the Microsoft office stuff, or not (or even if that would be related)...also each time I restart my computer; all windows applications open (word, power point, excel & outlook).   obviously I'm not very tech savvy to begin with so any advice would help!  I'm hoping this computer will last me thru the next 4 years of grad school & just want to make sure this computer is well taken care of to last that long.  Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You don't need an antivirus, but don't install Mackeeper if you don't want a damaged Mac OS > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036 See > http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg/

  • I am still on 10.2.8 and need to upgrade but don't know exactly how...

Ok, so I guess I'm a little slow and I'm just now realizing that I need to upgrade my system. I'm still on 10.2.8. I read in another post that it is possible to bypass all the other updates and go straight to the newest version, but from what I can tell I will need the original installation CD and of course I can't find it!
    Am I understanding this right?
It would be best if someone could lay out all my options for me...as clear as possible, please!!
    Thank you!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi Ashley,
You can upgrade to the latest version of OS X (which is 10.4.3) by buying a Tiger Upgrade DVD (for about $120-130). You do not need your original installation CDs to perform the installation. You insert the Upgrade DVD into your CD-ROM drive and take it from there.
However, if you ever need to re-install OS X for some reason, you would need your original installation CDs. The Upgrade version of Tiger installs on top of an existing version of Jaguar (10.2.x) or Panther (10.3.x). So, if you had to re-install, you would first need to put Jaguar back onto your machine and then you would perform the upgrade to Tiger.
Most people probably never have to do a re-install and don't want to think about it. But if you read the forums for a few days, you will see that there are a variety of hardware and software problems that people have which do require a re-install. So, you might want to think about what you would do if such a situation arose. For that, I think your options are:
    1) You search around some more and find your installation CDs.
    2) You buy a backup harddrive and do a regular backup of your system.
A couple of other options might be: you buy a used copy of Jaguar that will work on your eMac (for instance, on eBay). Perhaps there is the possibility to buy a full install version of Tiger. However, I have never seen this listed. If it were available, it would probably be pretty pricey.
I would encourage you to look for your CDs and also to plan on doing some backing up. The backing up also saves your valuable data if you were ever so unfortunate as to have a failure of your hard drive. For a backup harddrive, I would consider a firewire drive, on which you can install a bootable version of your system.
I hope this answers your questions. If not, ask again.
    Rich

  • I need to upgrade but don't know which version I have to get.  Do I have to go through each lower version or can I go straight to 10.8 then get free MAverick upgrade?  I live FAR from Apple store, so download upgrade is preferred.  :)

Need a newer version of Os to run printer and software.  Confused if I need to get which version to be able to upgrade to MAverick for free.  Also, need something I can download since Apple store is far away.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X. For detailed information see this user tip:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 )
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is still available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • This new forefox is not compatible with Google toolbar - I want to uninstall but don't know how. Orientation please!

I have a MacBook Pro and my bookmarks and mail are all google so I relly need my Google toolbar as this new one is not compatible.
    Thanks,
    ruco

Firefox will not easily allow you to downgrade to firefox4, because that is now unsupported, however if you install an additional add-on the compatability reporter this will allow the google toolbar to work. This is confirmed by one of the google [http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2011/06/enable-google-toolbar-in-firefox-5.html blogs]
Please therefore install the addon from this link:
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/
With any luck the new addon will help with other addons you may have and other releases of firefox that are going to be released soon.

  • Teach me about AppleTalk (I own a Mac and don't know anything about it)

I've had my iMac for a while now and really want to learn about things unique to it.
I've decided that I'd like to learn from users directly b/c you can be more open and honest than manuals.
First, Appletalk. I know it's a protocol for Macs like TCP/IP for all computers, but that's the end of my knowledge. What are the benefits of using it? Cons? Would I have any use for it? I have an iMac, Macbook, shared printer (USB'd to the iMac).

Appletalk barely exists anymore, OSX.4.x lost the file transfer ability of Appletalk... 10.1.5 thru 10.3.9 had it! Mainly just left in for discovery of Appletalk Networks and Printers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301183
"Mac OS X 10.4 and later don't support Personal File Sharing (or other AFP) over Appletalk, though by initiating the connection from the opposite direction you could still achieve an IP connection from a Mac OS 8 computer to a sharing Mac OS X computer. The Network preference pane in Mac OS X 10.4 and later still offers the AppleTalk checkbox, but it is for browsing AppleTalk-advertised resources and zones. The subsequent connection must be over TCP/IP."
