Want to upgrade...but...

Hello users.
I'm planning to upgrade to the CS3 premium suite (about time...) but wondering if my system spec will be able to perform with the needs of the latest suite requirements... so any advices from you "advised" users will be appreciated.
I'm now running:
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
2.00 Ghz
1.5 GB of ram
40 GB for C drive
680 GB on 5 more stream drive
Video card Matrox Millenium G450 DualHead
Sound card Creative SB Audigy
Mother Board Asus A7N8X
Windows XP SP1 (to avoid all the conflicts)
Softwares:
Adobe Premiere 6.5 with Pinnacle DV500(break box for analog signal)
After Effects 6.5
Photoshop 6.0
Everything works fine for now but want to upgrade to improve my workflow and be more competitive with all the new features that the CS3 suite offers... and I want to be sure if my computer will "take" it or if I need to adjust or also upgrade my CPU... Is it OK or what would I need???
Thanks in advance to you all
Happy editing
Kryss

I used a similar system with AE 7.0 to render over 400 GB of 1920x1080 image sequences in 16-bit, with the difference that I had 3 GB of RAM (and I avoid Matrox cards like the plague.) I'd seriously recommend to upgrade to XP SP2, 4 GB of RAM and a cheap nVidia GeForce card, such as the 7000-series.
With more RAM and a better graphics card (to make the system more stable) and XP SP2, you'll be able to work, but if you upgrade to a cheap office-type computer you'll get a system that should give you at least twice the performance of an upgraded version of your current system, for around $850:
Dell Inspiron 530:
Intel Core2 Duo Processor E6550 (4MB L2 Cache,2.33GHz,1333 FSB)
Windows® XP Professional - English
4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz- 4DIMMs
250GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM)
16x DVD+/-RW Drive
nVidia GeForce 8300GS 128MB
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
IEEE 1394a Adapter
Also note that Premiere Pro won't run on an Athlon processor!

If your phone isn't being recognized by your computer, you need to follow the steps in this article to resolve that
Also, some basic isolation needs to be done. Does it show up in itunes on any other computers? do you have other cords you can test with to see if it might be the cord? if the phone doesn't show up on any computers, it's likely your phone has a hardware issue

i have a Mac i5 and need to download the application 'Numbers' but everytime I try to do so, it says can't do as the ver 2.2 for the app needs new software 'Snow Leopard'. I don't want to upgrade but dont know what to do??

If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.

  • I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion.

I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion. How do I upgrade to Leopard or snow leopard?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • I don't want the upgrade but it keeps updating

I bought an app from Splash ID years ago.  Now they want me to upgrade an pay $19.95.  I don't want the upgrade but it keeps updating, so I have to delete it constantly and reinstall.  How can I stop this one app from upgrading?

so why is skype quietly downloading and installing things in my browsers with out either informing me or asking permission?
really I am a big girl if I want browser plug ins and extentions I use grease monkey I can installl them myself thank you very much.
Now stop forcing me to update, forcing me to add softwear I don't want or need.
You want a tool bar that's fine, stop being jerks about it and give me the option to opt out!

  • I have an iPad 2 and used old Apple ID for iBook app; now it wants to upgrade but I have a new Apple ID, how can I make certain I don't lose any data in my iBooks?

I have an iPad 2 and used old Apple ID for iBook app; now it wants to upgrade iBook but it is "stuck" on my old ID, yet I already created a new ID but it won't let me update the App.  I have everything backed up on my MacBook so if I delete iBooks on my iPad and retrieve the App under my new ID and then sync with my MacBook, will I still have all of the books, etc.?

Your purchases are tied to your Apple ID. If you bought all of the books with the old ID then AFAIK you will have to continue to use that ID in order to continue to sync those books to the iPad.
You have to update the app with the old ID so I don't see how you could keep the books with the new ID. Maybe I am wrong about this, but someone else will chime in I'm sure and correct me if I am wrong.

  • Want to upgrade but running bootcamp! What to do?

I want to upgrade to mountain lion from snow leopard so I can have icloud capabilities.  However, I'm running bootcamp because I am an architecture student and the programs I need aren’t made for macs.  Is there a way to upgrade to mountain lion without losing my partition and programs? Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you upgrade OS X, the Windows partition isn't (or shouldn't be) modified, so you won't lose anything. However, if the upgrade fails, you may lose your Windows, so I recommend you to make a backup with WinClone.
After upgrading, I recommend you to update the Boot Camp drivers on Windows. Open Boot Camp Assistant, tick the option to download the Windows support software and follow the steps. Then, start in Windows and install the Boot Camp drivers

  • Have old G4 want to upgrade but unsure what are limitations

    hi,
    i bought an old powerPC G4 533MHZ (CPU 11.3)
    (only has 768 sdram currently)
videocard is nVidea 32MB AGP card.
was hoping to be able to upgrade this machine a lot and do quality video work on it. A friend of mine claims that it has terrible limitations and that even if i were to swap out the hard drive or try to make it a dual core, it wouldn't work. Bus speed is supposed to be cost prohibitive as well
how much of this is true? how much could i pimp this machine out?
thank you for any help you may be able to provide

Well, my 2003 MDD machine has yet to really overheat. In fact, it never did! It all started back in 2007 around the summer time. My machine at that time was a 733mhz digital audio G4 and I was looking at a more advanced G4 system. Originally, I had my sights on the lowest of the totumpole G5, but unable to afford it at that time.
So, I looked on craigslist under G4's and low and behold. I found this G4 MDD for $435! It has a dual 1.25 processor with 2MB L3 Cache per processor and large hard drive space.. a lot more than the digital audio has.
I jumped at the deal. The good news is that I have the modified power supply inside and my machine is quiet under OS X, though under OS 9.2.2, it can be a little noisy, but not too bad.
I use my machine for everyday tasks and have no need for windows applications, at least for now. I do plan on getting a intel mac mini, since I would never depart away from my beloved MDD!
Anyway, the processor upgrades for MDD machines are dual 1.6 and dual 1.8, but both these from Sonnet lack L3 Cache, which is why I am not going to get any of those because its not cost effective. I plan on getting sata hard drives to complete my upgrades for this machine. Already got a GEFORCE 7800 GS video card with 256MB memory + core image capability. I plan on getting Leopard, though right now I am satisfied with Tiger as all my software runs under Tiger better than Leopard.
My machine has never had any issues with reliability. Its a strong BEAST. The Digital Audio G4 has been passed down to my 9 year old so that he can learn on the computer. That processor is not bad either for basics, and what he is doing in grade school is basics.
I also have a sawtooth mac, though was going to use this as a server using Mac OS X Server 1.2v3.

  • I knew there was a reason I didn't really want to upgrade, but I did & now the FF15 won't display the htm which my old version did perfectly

Actually it does display the page, but it doesn't display some of the elements which 3.6 did perfectly & even lowly old IE9 still does
Where do I post the 2 screenshots? - the 1 of IE9? & the other of FF15? - which, it should be obvious, isn't displaying the blue lines down the sides

    cor-el wrote:
Do you know what (CSS) code is responsible for those lines?
After you asked your question, I did some experimentation by varying
the size of the jpg displaying the long blue bar
& came to a startling conclusion
FF15 has changed its ability to display jpgs, if said jpg is even slightly greater
than 30K on its long (vertical) side
You see, the blue bar isn't generated by FF - it's an independent 8x35Kblubx.jpg,
an 8 x 35,000 pixel blue line, which was custom created in a drawing prg
I can send you the file if you want to see it, but the bottom line is,
the old version of FF used to display it perfectly & in virtually any paint type
or jpg display prg (preferably such as IrfanView or ACDSee etc),
it still will, but NOW, in FF15 it doesn't work
Thus whoever's responsible for finalizing the code at Mozilla/FF (whether it's a committee
or a person making a decision for a committee), they've decided some type of jpgs
just won't display, if they're greater than some arbitrary # of pixels
    on its long (vertical) side
So, here it is ; even FF15 runs the HTM perfectly, *if* I restrict the 8x35Kblubox.jpg
to its shorter `brother', which is 8x30Kblubox.jpg
Why 30K is acceptable to FF15, but even 30.5K or certainly 34K isn't,
is completely upto whoever's responsible for deciding what will display on FF15
All right, why the change? - Even IE9 still displays the 35Kblubox
& all the way upto 60K & maybe more (I decided 60K was as big as I'd need
at the time they were created), but FF15 jams out at 30.5!
Clearly it's a FF15 `issue' & should be restored to its former ability to run at least 60K
pixel or greater jpgs (along the long upright edge)

  • What plan to go with to save $? Want to upgrade, but cannot yet.

I want to get a smartphone, but I'm currently on a 2 year contract with 2 basic phones. My wife really could care less about a smartphone, but I'd like one just cause of what it can do. One major thing is the extra data charges I'm sure I'd rack up.
So what would be ideal to lower my bill. Currently I'm paying like $120-130 a month for 2 phones, unlimited text and 700 minutes which we barely even use them. It's lowest amount to get for a shared plan.
Is there anyway to get out of my contract. I'm literally stuck with this basic phone til February 2015. I'd imagine I'm stuck since I will not pay a fee to cancel.
Just really want to see if any way I can get around this or am I stuck til my contract ends. Would going without a contract be best for saving $? I've even considered switching carriers but Verizon seems to have best coverage and prices. Despite them not being too good with discounts or doing anything for me. I've been a customer for several years and never gotten a break from them. Never a discount on an upgade or accessories. Just somewhat ridiculous.

You can get out of your contract by paying an Early Termination Fee of $175 minus $5 for each full month that you've completed of your contract (per phone line).
You could look for a gently used smartphone on ebay or swappa (just ensure it's Verizon branded with a clean ESN) or pay full retail price for a new smartphone and activate it on your line.  Your plan wouldn't change, but you would have to add a data plan (i.e., $30 for 2 GB monthly).

No, you can't upgrade CPU of your machine. You have to buy new motherboard that means new machine.

  • Mail is trying to upgrade but its taking days!

Just bought new iMac and the first time I tried to use Mail it wants to upgrade but its taking weeks.
    Any suggestions please?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.
