Want to use built-in camera in linux.

Dear All,
I purchased a Lenovo G570 (Model Name: 20079).
It has Core i3 2350M and 4GB RAM.
I have installed Ubuntu Linux on my laptop.
How can I use the built-in camera of my laptop?

  • Take a picture using built in camera

I have a late-2011 MacBook Pro 15" and currently running Mac OS X version 10.7.4.
How can I use the built in camera to take a picture?
    Where exactly is it stored?
    What is the file name?
    Thanks!

Open Photo Booth and use that (it's in your Applications folder) or (hit commnad space bar and type "Photo Booth"),
then export it to iPhoto then export it from there, or
Print it in Photo Booth and save it as PDF, or open in Preview and take a Command Shift 4 screen shot of it into PGN or JPG format depending what you have set.
Photo Booth stores it's files in the "your User"/Pictures/Photo Booth folder, you can acces the jpegs there too.

  • Record video using built in camera?

Is there any way to record video using the built in camera on the 1.83gh macbooks, i know you can use photobooth with the newer macbooks, but on the older macbooks photobooth does not allow you this option.
    Any ideas?

You need Quick Time Pro to record video. QT Player does not allow this.

  • I want to use a external cam with xp in bootcamp but....

Ive read reports that you will blue screen if you try and use your built in isight with xp.
I would like to therefore use an external one with msn messenger in xp on my intel imac.
My question is can I disable the built in isight before I do this otherwise if im in msn and I click 'video' then surely the imac will look for the isight rather than the external webcam thus causing a blue screen?
basically I just want my external cam to take priority over the built in isight when in windows.

Yes, you should disable the iSight camera under Imaging devices in the Device Manager.

Is there any way I can use iMovie 3.03 with the built in iSight camera? The mode switch doesn't recognize the iSight camera and says 'No Camera Attached'

iMovie 3 is simply too old. By the way, iMovie 3 is aso so buggiest version, ever.
Why not use iMovie 6, which shipped with your computer.

  • Using built in camera as motion triggered security camera

I live in an apartment and suspect that some of the staff have come in and have been rooting through some of my files (paper ones) and playing some of my music instruments. Not at all paranoid, things have really been moved around. What reliable software can I get that will capture people in my apartment, and save it to a terabyte ext hard drive I have connected? And/or send it to my non 3g iphone? I don't want it constantly recording, and I'd like it to shut off recording after x-amount of time of non movement.
I really need to be sure who this is and what they are doing. Help? Ideas?

ha! I just don't have much experience downloading from unfamiliar sites and have heard of the nightmares folks have had when doing that (though, usually on PC's, not Macs). Thanks for the feedback.
I think you'll find that dangerous sites, with bad downloads are almost always dealing with protection softwares and p0rn. If you are looking for software with ratings you can always check VersionTracker.com, MacUpdate.com, Downloads.com - These sites have all been around for many years and have earned a great reputation for trying to keep the real dangerous crap off their services.
There are no download links on the the site I referenced. That site simply provides you with a set of instructions, and refers you to the commercial sites where you can buy the parts or software's.
Now it's up to you to decide if a commercial site would endanger their reputation or income by selling a product that isn't safe to use or is useless.
It's an easy matter to check a site's reputation for quality, customer service, etc. I use Google, but it's not perfect. One thing to check is the comments at the end of the instruction page to see if they seem real and if the information on the page makes sense and proves accurate when you go to the sites the article lists for the ingredients. You can also take a look around the site at other articles and judge them for their accuracy and quality.
One thing that I like is that both the Twisted Melon and Evo Logical sites referenced in the article accept PayPal so they are not given any of your credit card information, they just get paid. They don't get to keep a PayPal account for very long if there are many complaints.
Both sites also offer some customer support. The Evo Logical site is posting quite a bit of support info on their site about the product and the Twisted Melon site has a Version History showing how often they are updating their program and they also have working links to MacWorld articles and links to software download sites that have ratings and comments:

You don't know me, and what I say can be wrong. We are just users on this forum and you still need to check things out and use common sense when spending your money.

  • Massive video/audio lag using built in camera

Trying to make a simple video using the built in isight. When i try it using photo booth or imovie the video and audio are all out of sync and laggy. Computer is working at "best performance" setting with no other apps open...
Opening the .mov file shows the result is out of sync on quicktime as well.

    Hello G E2
You have made a good start and already considered a couple of the most likely possibilities that could have caused your problem:
     • CPU performance settings and
     • multiple apps running
re: CPU performance setting: I am not certain, but your MBA may run even faster when it is connected to power that when running on battery, even with the processor performance setting configured for best performance. If you are not already running on AC power, do a test while plugged in and see if that helps.
re: multiple apps: Consider the possibility of background widgets or apps that might be running. If you have not already tested this way, restart your Mac to eliminate possible widgets, quit all startup items, verify that Spotlight is not your indexing disk, and verify that no Time Machine backups are running. Then test video recording again.
If you do not get your problem corrected otherwise, consider the relevant suggestions in this list of possibilites regarding A/V recording sync issues:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7089133&#7089133
Some of them may not be relevant to your MBA, but you may find something helpful there.
If your problem is as bad after any actions you try from that list, when you post back for other ideas, give the details of any new info you found as a result of the additional checks / tests / actions. We will try to offer detailed suggestions in reply to your specific new info and questions.

  • How do I use the built-in camera or webcam?

I know this may sound very elementary but there was no documentation with my Mac when I bought it new (except a thin flimsy pamphlet with very baic stuff in it) and the help menu comes up with nothing at all when I search for web cam, webcam or isight.
Where do I go to learn about how to use the built-in camera/web cam as a camera and also as a web cam?
    Thank you

VortexBoy wrote: ... I know this may sound very elementary but there was no documentation with my Mac when I bought it new (except a thin flimsy pamphlet with very baic stuff in it)...
There should have been a seventy page booklet in the box with your new iMac.  If yours is the latest version, clicking here will download it if you cannot find the physical copy.  If yours is an older iMac model, you can search for the correct manual from the iNtel iMac Support Page > "Manuals" link.
After that, Mac 101 is a great web-based information source.  If you don't need general help, take a look here for specifics about each application of interest.
VortexBoy wrote: ... and the help menu comes up with nothing at all when I search for web cam, webcam or isight....
If your posted info is correct that you are running Mac OS X (10.7.3), you should be able to get started by using your Mac's Finder > Help menu command.  Searching for "camera" (without quotation marks) on my 10.7.3 Mac returns Mac's Help article entitled "Use your Mac’s built-in camera."  This is the web version of the same help.
Other apps, like QuickTime Player (the Lion QT 10.x version), and iMovie (part of iLife that came with your Mac) can also use your iMac's camera.
iMovie Help or this web page version of the same help will explain how to "Record video directly into iMovie".
Use QTX Player's File > New Movie Recording menu command to record video with it.  You can configure size and quality of the recorded material by using QTX's preferences as shown in this image:
VortexBoy wrote: ... Where do I go to learn about how to use the built-in camera/web cam as a camera and also as a web cam? ...
Different apps do not all work the same.  For function-specific help, search Help in separate camera applications; i.e., after you launch Photo Booth, iChat, QTX, iChat, etc., use the individual app's Help menu command to search for more info on the camera or what you want to do.
This article offers great basic tips about how to position, light, and use built-in cameras.  Although its subject shows it was written for iMacs, it is equally applicable to other reader's inbuilt Apple cameras, too.
For more specialized functions than those offered by the camera software already included with your Mac, you can search the Mac App Store for other apps that can use your camera.
For webcam help with iChat, use Apple's iChat Support page if you need more help that that provided in the dialog boxes and iChat > Help on your Mac.
To use your camera with FaceTime, search your Mac's FaceTime > Help or these web versions of the same Help topics that should be available on your Mac.
Skype or other third party webcam apps will offer their own Help menus of varying quality.  In additon to these app Help services, some apps offer comprehensive Support services via their web page.  If you decide to add Skype to your Mac, you can click here to review the excellent Skype Support pages.
If you need to start a new topic for specific questions after you get started, give as much detail about what you want to do and what you may have already tried unsuccessfully.  We will offer specific suggestions based on the details you provide.
    Enjoy your new Mac!

  • Using a different Camera

I want to use a different camera to take a picture in Photo Booth. I connect the camera and the mac recognizes it. I can download pictures but I want to take a good quality picture with the effects. Any ideas?

    Hello again, dumbo275
Thanks for letting us know you found the info above helpful.
You probably cannot (or, at least, should not) disconnect your built-in iSight. Here are some alternatives that you can consider.
    (1) Unless you are an Apple Service Technician, trying to disconnect your internal iSight will likely void any warranty or Apple Care. Even worse, you might damage something while trying. There are no user serviceable parts for iSight. If you decide that you want your built-in iSight disconnected, see your Apple Authorized Service Provider. He can disconnect it for you in such a way that it could be reconnected should you eventually want to use your built-in iSight again.
    (2) Rather than disconnecting your built-in iSight, you could use the instructions in this article to disable it. (It is generally a bad idea to move, modify, rename, or delete any item outside your User > Documents folder unless you are an experienced OS X user.) Once your built-in (USB) cam is disabled, Photo Booth can use your Firewire cam. Because removing the QT component file disables every USB cam connected to your system, this workaround is only useful for users who have an external Firewire cam. If you decide to use this method to disable your built-in iSight, be sure and keep the file in a safe place so you can put it back when you want to use your built-in USB cam again.
    (3) If you do not need to make multiple pictures quickly, here's an alternative that does not endanger your Mac's hardware or software integrity. It doesn't use Photo Booth at all. First, make a normal image with the higher-quality camera of your choice. Then, if you used a digital camera, transfer the image to your Mac. Next, open the saved image and modify it using an image editing software application like PhotoShop (PS) or PhotoShop Elements (PSE) to simulate the Photo Booth effects you want. Although it is impossible to EXACTLY DUPLICATE a specific Photo Booth "effect", it is easy to use the various "Filters" and other menu commands in PS or PSE to make an image that most viewers would assume was made with Photo Booth. After a bit of practice, you can do this editing fairly quickly. Although never, of course, as simple as clicking the Photo Booth button, this approach may be worthwhile for those cases where Photo Booth image quality is inadequate for your needs.

  • Any way to adjust color from built-in camera?

I would like to adjust skin tones displayed when using built-in camera for photo booth and Skype.  Any way to do this without changing the display itself -- as web pages and photos from my digital camera look great as is.  Thanks, Philip

  • Can I use Built-in SQL Server in Visual Studio 2010 ?

    Hi Friends, I am Atif.
If I will upload my project to my Server Domain and I want to use Built-in Visual Studio 2010 Sql Server Expreess Database then it will work. If yes then Please suggest me How..??
Actually I don't want to install SQL Server Database Seperately.
Tell me How can i achieve this.
    Thanks and Regards.
    Atif.

    Hi Atif,
Besides other post, to use SQL Server Express for development work, you just need to specify the data source (SQL server's name) and authentication details in a connection string. For more information about SQL Server Express connection string, you can review
the examples in the following articles.
    Database Connectionstrings
SQL Server Connection Strings for ASP.NET Web Applications
Also please note that SQL Server Express edition has some limitations, for example: only one CPU can be used by the express edition, the maximum size of a database is 4 GB (10GB in SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and higher versions of SQL Server Express),
it can only use up to 1GB of RAM.

  • *^*^*^*Hp envy touchsmart; Built-in Camera faulty*^*^*^*

Help, didn't use built-in cam for quite a long while already (approximately 2months?) and today when I launch "camera" app it keep flashing  and its working but in a constant flashing screen and for awhile later no more than 5 seconds it shows "connect to camera" and after that "there's a problem with your camera".
So I ran troubleshooting for devices, not working. Did a uninstall to Hp TrueVision HD webcam driver and rebooted laptop but still showing the same problem.
Only difference now is that I could no longer see the constant flashing screen which able to see image *blink blink*. So then I tried out YouCam app to check whether is the app that cause this but again no images were able to be seen (it did prompt to me to use Hp TrueVision HD cam).
    This question was solved.

Thanks for the response. Please make sure that you have attempted all of the steps in this HP document: Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
If that doesn't work,  I would like you to reinstall the operating system. It will clear up any software conflicts and allow you to start fresh.
First, please ensure you backup your files. Here is information on how to do this: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8)
Once this is done, it is safe to reinstall the operating system. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8)
If the same situation occurs, the computer likely has faulty hardware. At that point, please contact HP phone support. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know your results. Thanks!
